Dragon Quest 12 Still in Limbo as Another Dragon Quest Day Has Nothing to Show

Not in limbo then, just, you know, being developed.

Next Nintendo Direct we will finally see it

@Vivisapprentice Wish I could be as optimistic as you, but this is not going to be a Nintendo exclusive.
We know that if it was going to be shown anytime soon, today was the day. Not in the middle of a Nintendo Direct around the month of DQ day.

@Vivisapprentice I don’t see DQ12 news until 2026 to be honest. Square Enix are making a big effort to get Nintendo players into their newer FF releases, DQ12 would probably overshadow that effort.

Meanwhile if Geoff got the opportunity to showcase a Square Enix game at the Game Awards this year it would be more likely to be KH4.

Just let them cook and get it right, in the mean time though they should release Dragon Quest 10.

The longer it takes the more I worry. DQ11 was just about perfect, shouldn't take this long to duplicate that with a new story. It's not like those games have changed all that much, it isn't FF. With my fear being it becoming FF.

Just like Kingdom Hearts IV it seems like they're just staying away and keeping their heads down until the game is done. Honestly I think it's better that way

the zenithia trilogy will be the next remake.as it was hinted ..

4 years and not even a screenshot and they said theyre changing up the turn based combat which would be a huge mistake. Hopefully the success of turn based games over the last couple years stopped that idea

Last i read they were going to make it real time combat.. Hopefully the popularity of Claire Obscure Expidition 33 will make them include turn based battles.

@Diowine it will be multiplat but nintendo will more than likely have marketing rights. I think Square would rather save it for a big event with more eyes than a random Tuesday that happens to be Dragon Quest day

I thought for sure this would be the time, actually. I thought they would hold off for the Switch 2 announcement and then showcase it as a Switch 2/PS5/Series X/PC release. It actually wouldn't have surprised me if it was one of their big reveals at the Switch 2 Direct.

Expected, but still a shame.

With 2027 primed for FF7 Remake part 3, 2026 would have been perfect for DQ12, and a reveal in 2025 would have stoked the hype. At this point, it's likely going to be after FF7 is finished, so 2028 at the earliest, meaning we will have a 10+ year gap between releases...

@rjejr DQ11 brought a ton of new mechanics and features to make the game more modern while retaining that traditional turn-based RPG feel. But I agree, these types of games shouldn't take this long to make, unless they are really shaking things up...

for the best really. can only play one dragon quest game every 10 years or so (if we are talking about 100 hour completion times)... if this releases by 2027, that would be a perfect amount of time between entries.

@greengecko007 Thanks for the reply. Inspired me to do some digging. After the first few yearly editions, seems like every game series was close to yearly back then, the past 4 or 5 DQ games have been about 5 years apart. Now DQ10 seems like some weird online thing they made in 2012, 3 years after DQ9 in 2009, and 5/6 years before DD11 in 2017/18.

And it's now been 7 years since 2018. COVID was in there, have to account for that, but it's still been 7 years, which seems like a lot. Not only hasn't it released in 7 years, but we haven't seen anything. And w/ a game series thus big I'm thinking at least a full year before reveal trailer and release.

So once again I'm worried they're mucking it up. Hopefully soon.

Very misleading headline implying it may or may not be in production & media wonders why the public doesn’t trust them, its stunts like this on a daily basis.

If they announced it now, it would've cut into their DQ I & II sales, so...next year is Dragon Quest's 40th anniversary. If it doesn't appear then, I'll be shocked.
