Atlus Says It's 'Actively Preparing' for the Future of Persona as Revival Gets Rough Reception

The prevailing sentiment seems to be this was announced to appease fans. Can't help but agree especially if you compare this reveal to that of P3R which definitely shows that this isn't as far along as P3R was when it was announced

Just like P3, i stick with my Golden Vita copy.

I think P4 doesn't need a remake. I mean, sure the PS2 graphics looks a lot less detailed compare to P5. But the art style aged quite well with the story, characters, gameplay, music, and VA are still great too.

But now with this remake, they gonna do some unnecessary change to the story, characters music, and VA. I can see they gonna make Kanji and Naoto dungeon and background story "less offensive" for those special group. Gonna see a tons of articles about gender this and that when this remake come out.

But eh whatever. It's Sega / Atlus IP so they're free to milk their IP until it's completely dried.

@RadioHedgeFund The entire point of trailers is for people to judge them. By your logic, people also shouldn’t be excited for games and praise elements of upcoming games because they haven’t played them. It’s fine to both be critical of things and be excited of things in development, if they didn’t want it to be judged then they wouldn’t have made a trailer in the first place.

According to whom, exactly? Certain trailers are put together as announcements. Also, there is a massive difference between critical and the quoted tweet. Some people's entire existence revolves around criticizing others.

This isn't a weird call out, as I'm pretty pro cursing, but why for that person can say the f word here and no can I???

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I was skeptical on P3Reload but they really knocked it out of the park. That said, I'm not sure exactly how eager I am to go back to 4 again. Was really hoping we'd finally get to play as an adult. Either in a college setting or as a salaryman. There'd be so much more to explore from a more grown up perspective.

People are awful these days. It looks perfectly good. Bubbletea can suck it.

My only question is if it's based on vanilla or the golden, cause i'm not gonna be paying extra to have the complete version.
It was great to see Narukami and Inaba in non chibi form.

It looks incredibly rough and was announced way too early. Or at least they should NOT have shown this alpha footage or whatever it is of gameplay. Incredibly bad call on their part.

Also Persona 4 Revival really?

I mean I get it, like a tv series revival... But I would've thought Persona 4 Re-Run or (My personal favourite) Persona 4 Retuned would've fit the TV theme better~

@Jeaz But there is a big difference between 'This doesn't interest me, so I'll ignore it' and 'This is crap'.

I don't drive and have no interest in cars. I seen maybe one car commercial over the years that made me consider buying a car. I've never driven any of them so cannot possibly comment on whether they are rubbish or not as I have no first-hand experience. So I ignore them.

Its like saying a band is trash without ever listening to their music or saying a food is horrible without tasting it. Its not a valid opinion because it lacks a citation. You wouldn't pay attention to a review of anything if the writer had never actually properly experienced the subject matter.

We cannot possibly comment on the quality of a game until the final gold release is in our hands and we can experience it ourselves.

I’m one of the ones who does not think P4 needed a remake. Nothing wrong with Golden.
I’m positive they’ll make changes to the story, I hope I’m wrong.

It looks good, I won’t lie but I’ll pass on this one.

@Deoxyr1bose It depends, sometimes it can ruin a game, tv show or movie. A case in point would be the trailer for the movie Sinners, once I saw that and the insane reveals of what happens and to who it stopped me from a punt.

This kind of reaction is one of the reasons I disassociate myself from gamers and nerds.

I'm glad to see this announced. I loaded Golden up after beating P3Reload and was floored by just how dated it looked in comparison. Still perfectly playable but I found myself missing the tiny details found in Reload and finding the bobblehead look of the characters and flat environments distracting.

Nothing that wouldn't have become inconsequential after a couple of hours of playing but anyone who thinks a newer shinier version is a bad thing is a mental case – especially given how the previous remake they did was phenomenal.

@Jeaz I will always give a game a fair shot, even if it has reviewed poorly so long as said game is within my tastes. I've enjoyed loads of rough-edged titles over the years that has otherwise been rubbished in the press, conversely I have also disliked a lot of well-rated games I thought I might like.

@Thumper Absolutely. A trailer is designed to peak your interest, not form an opinion. There is a big, big difference between 'Everest looks really hard to climb' and 'Everest /is/ really hard to climb'.

Look,if they don't mess with the characters stories(i.e. Kanji,Naoto,and Yosuke),then I am 100% going to buy it,reason being because I love the cast of Persona 4,and with it having Persona 5 gameplay, it is a additional reason to get it.
I am also waiting to see how they change the Persona 4 dungeon.

That being said, the trailer doesn't really give much,so I understand why people are dissapionted,and it doesn't help that some people still feel swindled by p3 remakes dlc situation.

While I would have preferred a Persona 1 or 2 Remake I'll probably grab this down the line

This is reasonable, I mean, P4 is supposed to be more vibrant than P3 and P5, yet all I saw was light washing out colors from objects.

This is why the comments the article mentioned are embarassing for the people who made them. Had Sega released a playable demo, it would be a different story.

Yeah the trailer looks awful, as do the graphics. That aside, Persona 4's story aged like milk so if for nothing else I'm curious to see how they'll go about fixing it. Kanji and Naoto's segments in particular need a lot of rework. I won't be buying it regardless though, just like I didn't buy Reload.

@RadioHedgeFund Because they don’t show us this stuff to help us form an opinion? I’ve never gotten “I can’t have an opinion unless I’ve paid them $70+ for the game and played it. Then I can it was bad they shouldn’t have gotten any money.” Sure it helps having a fuller opinion, but let’s not pretend you can’t figure out a lot beforehand too.

yes, because people want a p2 remake... you know, a game that cannot be played on modern hardware and has been disrepected by atlus ever since its original release more than 25 years ago! they don't want p4 released for the 4th time. not complicated.

based on the recent pr comments from atlus, it sounds like p6 is a long ways away still... i don't know why people assume its in late stage development and going to release any moment now haha. they haven't released a single teaser of the game... not even a cgi trailer. once they do, it could be years away from that point as we have seen from pervious atlus releases. i.e. i wouldn't expect p6 for at least 2+ years and is likely to launch after the ps6 generation gets off the ground.

would they release p4 AFTER p6? not likely. it sounds like p4 remake is a stop gap for them in between releases... p4 remake itself looks like it is a late 2026 game (they didn't even specifiy a YEAR in the teaser). wouldn't make much sense to release the main course before the appetizer would it?

@GloriosaDaisy Kanji and Naoto actually being in the story makes it pretty progressive by jrpg standards to be fair.

If the P3 remake was any kind of indicator, P4R will be great.

@RadioHedgeFund I have to disagree with you when you are comparing games to food. With games you can see trailers of it and see for yourself whether you like it or not. You won't buy it if it's not to your liking. With food, you have to taste it yourself to know if you like it or not. So big difference there.

@GloriosaDaisy I'm just glad great JRPG's with mature story that talked a lot about religion, sexuality, politics, war, or human existences like Xenogears / Xenosaga, SMT Nocturne, Nier Replicant, FF Tactics, P4, Drakengard, Shadow Hearts, Suikoden, Breath of Fire etc already came out decades ago before very sensitive people with their holier than thou attitude dominate the social media spaces and ruined the experiences.

@PuppetMaster Have you played any RPGs lately, lol? Oh wait, do you just mean JRPGs? All these pearl-clutching changes seem to be coming from Japan lately. Which makes sense, considering how heavily earlier JRPGs were censored, especially in the realm of religious themes.

I never played P4 so I'm interested I this remake. I do hope atlus will make another Catherine or something similar.

I have faith it will all work out in the end. They did a great job with P3R so I don't see any reason to think they will mess up P4R. The game is clearly very early in development so let's just chill a bit before bringing out the pitchforks.

That said though, it does concern me just how much further away P6 probably is now considering I don't expect this to release until 2027 at the earliest. 🙁

@Korgon Atlus took 5 years to finished P5 and it took 8 years for them to finished Metaphor. So we're not gonna see P6 probably until 2030-32. But i can see they reused a lot of assets from P5 and Metaphor to cut the development time.

I wonder what people were expecting. It's was quite obviously going to use the P3R/P5 look.

I am one of the few Persona fans that felt Persona 3 remake felt like a lazy remake. I felt like they stripped the identity of 3 by copying Persona 5 style and infusing it into 3.

I feel they same way with P4. I think they're rushing the development the game. That blue hue says it all.

@Kingy It's not like the narrative materialized out of thin air. Gamers did it to themselves. They complain about everything, whether it's the smallest minute details or how everything is "woke."
