I don't understand what could pawssibly make the developers keep making these games. Bubsy was NEVER good and these sequels just keep proving that. It's almost insulting at this point that of all franchises to attempt a comeback, it just had to be Bubsy. Not Bonk, Rocket Knight, Ristar, Turrican or Shining Force, but Bubsy. Freakin' Bubsy.
I'm sad to hear the vehicle combat isn't that good, as that was one of the main hooks for me. You just don't see a lot of that in games anymore since Twisted Metal died off. Still looks like a potential pick up though.
Yeah I think 4K and HDR support would justify the lower fps and would help give it the edge it needs over Mario Kart 8.
@b1ackjack
Agreed. I don't even normally care about framerate but CTR is going to have some serious competition when it releases, and I'm concerned that failing to hit 60fps will damage it. As you said, there are graphics-heavy online games hitting 60fps so it seems odd that this game can't do it. The fact it's a racing game makes me feel like it needs it even more.
We'll just have to see, I guess. Hopefully it won't impact sales. Sonic All Stars Racing: Transformed was 30fps on consoles and I loved that game.
The audio drop was the most common bug I encountered so I'm glad they sorted that one out. I'm pretty much finished with the game though having done the main story and all. Once I started hunting hordes post-game, I realized it isn't as much fun to hunt them as I thought it would be.
I hear they're adding free content in June though, that's pretty cool.
Not trying to get in on the argument here, but I agree with @CupidStunt that there is absolutely nothing "generic" about Breath of the Wild. The whole "generic open world" insult is used purely to dismiss the game without providing any actual reasoning. While I have my own issues or criticisms with the game, none of them have anything at all to do with it being "generic open world". Everything about the game was designed extremely well, right down to the unique and creative ways the player is able to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, or traverse the environment. Breath of the Wild's reception, review scores, and sales speak for itself.
As for the complaint about weapon breaking, this is a ridiculous complaint. Weapon durability has existed in games before BotW and after. Not getting into the whole Japanese vs Western games thing because I don't really care where a game is from as long as it's fun for me.
The existence of the ESRB and PEGI should be enough that we don't need to neuter or censor anything. But let's face facts here... if the shoe were on the other foot and Nintendo was censoring this and other games the way Sony has been doing, Pushsquare would be having a field day. Because it's Sony though, we have the usual Sony Defense Force out downplaying it and crazies acting like this is somehow an act of divine justice and so on.
So you took out a fan that lets me blow a grown woman's skirt up a little. Meanwhile on MK11 I just tore out someone's large intestine and played a game of jump rope with it.
World has gone crazy. I feel like the only sane one left and I'm just an onion.
Being a PS4 and Switch owner, I feel like i have the best of both worlds. I can play as Joker in Smash Bros Ultimate and still play Persona 5 (and maybe P5 Royal later down the line) on PS4. Feels good man.
EDIT: @jbreez00
Agramonte posts at Nintendolife dude, they can't possibly be a Sony fanboy. He/she is just saying that some of the ports on Switch aren't very good. Case in point, Saints Row The Third is one of the worst ports on Switch.
I loved this game and still have it on my 360, been looking to revisit it at some point. I must have beaten that game around 10 times, haha. I'd love to see it get a HD Remaster, preferably if they add some of the cut content to the game such as the thanksgiving parade level.
Still playing the game myself, although the further end of the game feels like the writing drops off a bit. Still a solid experience though. Glad to see it's doing well. I think it still needs a few more patches but it's a good game overall.
Of course Gamespot just had to underscore it for those easy clicks. I'm interested in this game so I'm waiting to see how fans react before I decide to pick it up or not.
I'm still enjoying Days Gone, though I'm nearing the end of the main story I think. I've also been playing MK11 at a friends house. It's a good game, but I'm still gonna wait for the issues to be ironed out and DLC to come out.
Anyway the Predator games don't have the best reputation but I think this is a great idea. I'm a huge fan of the Predator and Alien franchise too. I actually bought Ghost Recon on sale purely for the Predator event. I'm gonna be watching this.
The game is already long but at the same time, I think the third semester is welcomed because with so much of the game being on-rails, this extra portion of the game will hopefully give us more time to do the things we want to do.
Yeah that might be it too, I did most of the dungeons in one run, so that may be why it seemed like it went on for an eternity, haha. Fixing the whole " go to bed, Joker" thing would be nice too. I mean, I don't see why I can't make a few lockpicks.
Small things like the constant "on-rails" nature of the story, dungeons that go on forever, and the cat controlling my bed time are the main reasons I haven't done a NG+ yet. I'm just not ready for all of that, yet. By the time I am, Royal may already be out.
MK11 really should have been better than it is, but someone at NRS go it into their head that players who take on the Towers to unlock more content really enjoy getting their brains bashed in by cheating AI that gets all sorts of unfair modifiers. My favorite is the one that makes the screen black. The only thing that'd be better is one that makes the PS4 turn itself off.
I picked up Days Gone after the latest patch (despite spending most of the game's development having no idea what it actually was) and have been diggin' it quite a bit, but it still has some technical issues to work out. The cutscenes for a chunk of the game were out of sync for me, resulting in somewhat amusing Godzilla-ish lip sync.
I wasn't a big fan of Retro City Rampage. The "humor" was nothing more than rapidly firing off references Family Guy-style. I'm not sure what's funny about running into an 80s reference every 10 seconds. Okay you just referenced Solid Snake. So? Am I supposed to be laughing? The mission structure wasn't much better, encompassing the very essence of the usual open world stuff that people sometimes complain about yet give a free pass to games like Retro City Rampage. The only time I had any fun at all with it was when I was just randomly waddling around the map causing chaos. Now that was fun, and it's good to hear that mode is now available from the start.
Despite that, this new game DOES look interesting. The money-making concept also sounds great and really reminds me of GTA: Vice City. Still, not sure I can stomach more of this team's idea of "humor". if it's anything like the last game, I assume they just fire off a bunch of references again and expect me to be amused.
I'd kill for either a remake of Syphon Filter or a sequel of some kind. It's really a shame that this series died off. The last decent Syphon Filter game I remember playing was on PSP.
I do wonder if the theory that the trailer was using some kind of beta version of Sonic is true. I mean, that'd be pretty brilliant if the Sonic they're using is something from an early version of the movie. That would explain the willingness to "fix" it. They would get credit for making one of the biggest turn arounds in film history.
I personally pay no attention to the free games most of the time, so I'm not really part of the demographic. Hard to deny that PS Plus is going down in value overall though. Being so late in the PS4's lifetime, I feel like we should be getting more than 2 free games a month. Giving us about 3 or 4 free games a month would eliminate at least some of the whining.
It's a pretty meh situation overall. I get the anger, but I'm not really affected.
It's almost embarrassing how many patches this game has needed in such a short time, but all the more reason why I'm glad I held off a tiny bit on my purchase. I just had a feeling this was one of those games that would need a few weeks to get some patches rolling before snagging it.
Of course there's always the alternative of having them not patch it and leave in it a buggy state, so... I'll take the patches in this case.
Great article, this is a subject that I was noticing coming up in the Days Gone review. A 7 sounds perfectly solid to me, especially given that most reviewers were probably playing with an unpatched copy of the game.
Really impressed that Days Gone is doing so well. I'll be picking up a copy of my own soon now that the game has gotten some patches. MK11 doing well is no surprise, given that it's.... an MK game! I'll be waiting for the usual DLC and such though on that one. I'm sure they'll do a MK 11 XL or something. I hear it needs some tweaking anyway with the rewards system.
Definitely didn't think the game was all that buggy, the most common bug seems to be an audio drop and some oddities with the flashlight. I'm still waiting a bit longer on my purchase for this reason though. Never hurts to wait for a few patches! The game is a stunning technical achievement as it is, a few patches will only make the game better. It IS a shame that they couldn't release the game in a more stable state to begin with, but as I understand it, this game already spent 6 years in development.
Pretty much called it, this has been the usual for fighting games as of late. Like SC6 and DOA6, this will be on my "wait for sale" list. I refuse to pay full price for these overly bloated fighters.
Man I miss the days of games like Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
I still don't fully understand what this game even is, so I'm waiting for it to come out and see what people are saying. An open world zombie survival game (Is that even what it is?) could either be very interesting or very boring depending on how this is handled.
More interested in a framerate patch as the game's framerate on PS4 is an absolute mess, especially for those of us who haven't yet made the switch to PS4 Pro.

For those wondering why the 60fps thing is such a big deal, it's because Mario Kart 8 has had no trouble hitting the 60fps mark and is visually gorgeous. Not to mention 30fps is going to hinder reaction time a bit especially in a racing game. They really need to hit 60fps in this game if they want to compete with Mario Kart, otherwise it will turn players off from the game.
It's just bad for sales. With this game also being Switch-bound, they need to hit 60fps even more or people will simply play the other game. 30fps is a dealbreaker for me as well and I rarely even care about that sort of thing in a game.
