Re: Gamescom 2018: Have Some New Details on Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2

Onion

@Hapuc

Exactly. This character barely resembles Claire. Changing her attire alone was a dumb move, since the red vest was a memento of Chris and was given to Sherry later on in the original game. The red vest was iconic for her in 2. Even from a visual stand-point, the vest was fantastic. It had an angel holding a bomb and "made in heaven" on it, what we get in it's place is a bland red jacket that looks like she got it on sale at JC Penny. Not having it in the remake is almost sinful. Also not a fan of the jeans instead of hotpants, but this is minor by comparison, since Claire has been doing the jeans thing for a while.

This is to say nothing of how weird her face is (Someone above mentioned she looks old, I agree too) and the fact Alyson Court won't be voicing her again. It's like Capcom can't get this character right. Every version of Claire post Code Veronica has been awful (Save for maybe Degeneration). Here's hoping her personality and character at least stay intact... Also there's a special kind of irony in telling someone they're still "stuck in the past" while discussing a remake of a 20 year old game.

@Undead22

You may be right, as I'm a massive RE2 fan and have been hyped for the remake for a while now. Changes like this though are sometimes enough to push a game from "day 1" to "wait for reviews", or worst case scenario, the dreaded "wait for sale". Right now, this game has been pushed to "wait for reviews" for me simply because I dislike the changes made to Claire. Also don't be so quick to say someone will get over something, the redesign for Jill in RE5 is still a hot topic to this day, with lots of people outright hating that design. I don't think too many people were able to "get over" that.

Hopefully, her classic RE2 outfit will be in the game. I seriously can't imagine that it wouldn't be, considering RE4 had a classic outfit for Leon.

EDIT: To further elaborate on why this is such an annoyance, Leon's RPD uniform is very much iconic and relevant to his character, so his uniform remained intact... yet Claire's original outfit was just as important and for some reason they felt the need to completely change her attire. Why was it okay to tamper with Claire's and not Leon's? It's like Capcom just hates Claire or something. My best guess is they weren't even looking at her RE2 design, but her Revelations 2 design and trying to design her as a younger version of that. Revelations 2 Claire didn't exactly go over well with fans either, so this is baffling to say the least.

@Sevenifity

yeah I was kinda let-down when the theme for the Street Fighter Anniversary didn't come with a nice Street Fighter BGM. Since I don't use themes that often, I was kinda surprised. The 3DS not only does music, but sound effects too. What's odd is that my Persona 5 theme DID come with music, so the option to put in our own custom music would be really nice for those that don't already come with music.

Re: Gamescom 2018: SoulCalibur VI Gets a Full Second Story Mode with Your Own Custom Character

Onion

I didn't much care about this game until now, since like Sarfa, I was really let down by IV and V's lack of any real content. II and III had the most content and felt like they were really trying. Now I'm actually kind of interested.

It's a shame because IV and V had really robust character customization but squandered it by giving you next to nothing to actually do with those characters.

Re: Hands On: Is Shenmue I & II a Knock Out on PS4?

Onion

The audio issue was also present in the GC port of Skies of Arcadia, although not quite THIS bad. Seems like DC ports and audio problems go hand-in-hand. I can't recall if the Xbox version of Shenmue II also suffered from audio bugs. Maybe I should pop it in one day and see....

Re: Soapbox: Why I Love Shenmue

Onion

@kyleforrester87

Oh man I'm with you there. Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite DC games. While I did finish the Shenmue series, I find them terribly hard to replay today. I won't go as far as to say I find Shenmue overrated, but it definitely isn't my thing. A Skies of Arcadia Remaster though.... yes please! As for GC being inferior, it is in some ways, but otherwise it's the same thing.

EDIT: Oops, didn't realize this was republished and I just responded to a 2-3 year old comment.

Re: Dishonored Currently on Ice as Dev Considers Multiplayer Aspects in Future Games

Onion

I'm getting a tad concerned what this means for the future of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Dishonored. First came the Elder Scrolls online game, now Fallout, and now I'm curious if Dishonored will also follow this path. While I have nothing against online games, they make up a very small portion of my library and I would vastly prefer single player focus.

Oh well, at least Spider-Man is a single-player game, so I have that to look forward to.

Re: Fist of the North Star PS4 Combat Looks Like Yakuza Gone Mad

Onion

This game looks awesome. Not sure I understand what the above comments are even talking about, as I saw multiple attacks coming from the AI, and the whole video is only a minute long. Obviously the point is to showcase the game's mechanics and combos, not how good or bad the AI is. If it's anything like the Yakuza games (and I see no reason why this wouldn't be the case) the enemies will fight back in turns like a traditional beat-em-up.

I've been really hyped for this. Can't wait for September! I'm a sucker for super hero games, especially the Arkham and Spider-Man games, so this should be a treat. If it can top Web of Shadows and Spider-Man 2, I'll be really amazed. Those are my top two spidey games as far as 3D and such goes.

Re: Review: Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars (PS4)

Onion

The review didn't read like a 5/10 for me, but this is kind of what I was expecting. I enjoyed most of the base game of Far Cry 5 (it was my first real Far Cry) and was looking forward to the DLC episodes, but it looks like Ubisoft phoned it all in. Super disappointed that this too was phoned in, as it looked like the best one.

Re: Embrace 90s Nostalgia with SEGA Mega Drive's Free PSVR Patch

Onion

A bit of a useless feature but neat nonetheless. Reminds me of how I used to play my Sega Genesis and NES, sitting on the floor with my TV propped up on something. Nowadays I've got my gaming rig setup with an HDTV and all the right cables going so the picture looks great, but I still have a small CRTV that I have some old consoles hooked up to, like the Atari 2600. There's a special charm to gaming on a small CRT like that. In fact, I have a Genesis 2 hooked up to that small TV just for this very reason, to experience gaming the way it used to be. I don't use it much but I still love it.

You know what, I change my mind, this is a pretty awesome patch!

Re: Devil's Hunt Looks Like a PS4 Action Game for Edgelords

Onion

Yeah the edgelord thing really was a real thing on PS2. I watched some of my favorite Sega franchises fall victim to this trend. Beast Rider, Altered Beast, SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG.... I rest my case here. I never thought I'd see the day a character in a Sonic game would be using guns and saying "damn", but it happened.

When I saw the thumbnail though, I thought maybe Prototype 3 by some miracle had happened.

Re: Review: Tempest 4000 (PS4)

Onion

Oof, low score for a game I expected to be quite good, but at the price they're asking, it's pretty bonkers. I got Pac Man Championship 2 for like, a couple of dollars which is what I'd expect this game to be priced at. At best, I expected a 9.99 game but it seems much more expensive.

I definitely recommend checking out Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar, or the PS1 version though. There's something surreal about the Jaguar's best game being so graphically simple, but it's hours of fun.

Re: Feature: Spider-Man 2 - Does It Still Hold Up Today?

Onion

@JoeBlogs

If you have access to a good CRTV, that's definitely the best option unless it's showing any signs of aging.

If you have to play PS2 on an HDTV. it also depends on where you live. In the US, the best set-up is a good set of official Sony component cables. Plugged into an HDTV, it should look fine and will even give you access to 480p for the games that supported it. For me, the component cables really made most games look absolutely fantastic on my HDTV, but it really does vary from TV to TV. Otherwise, you probably want to go with an RGB connection. Buying a PS3 is also an option, but I don't know how good it upscales PS2 games.

You can find more information here: http://retrorgb.com/playstation.html

CRTV is still the best and simplest method though, if you still have access to one.

Re: E3 2018: Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Is Coming to PS4 This Year

Onion

@kyleforrester87

The story is hit and miss, but shows off a more complete and darker protagonist compared to the other Tales games at the time and has a charming cast of characters. It has what I consider the best Tales battle system though, as by this point they had really perfected it. The Tales games after it switched the formula around for the worse IMO.

The main issue with the plot is that it doesn't have a big sense of urgency for much of the game, but I personally think that's a big part of the charm. The story is just very relaxed, though it does start tackling some moral issues regarding actions Yuri takes.

For me, Abyss had the best story, but Vesperia had the best gameplay, with Symphonia being a mix of the two and generally being quite good at both. I didn't care much for any of the Tales games past Vesperia, but I plan to give Berseria a chance soon.

Re: Soapbox: PS Vita's Longevity Has Been Quite Remarkable

Onion

As a Nintendo fan myself, I didn't see anything wrong with the Wii U comment and have no idea why that stirred up such a hornet's nest. The Wii U did terrible, that's a known fact.

As for the Vita, I've always had an interest in the handheld but it seems Sony always found some way to ruin it and kill all of my interest in it. For example, the oft-cited memory card issue. No one was happy about that and Sony's greed got the better of them, clearly. Then you have the fact your PSP games won't run on it. That's fine, but again, Sony got greedy and offered the option to download the games you probably already own from the shop as a "compromise". Yeah. No. Even if I were willing to do so, the shop actually lacks some games I'd love to play on Vita due to the 2nd analog stick, but alas, those games aren't available on the shop, once again killing ALL my interest. At this rate, the only reason I'd even consider buying a Vita is for Persona 4: Golden. if it weren't for the indie developers, the Vita would have even less games to choose from due to how Sony didn't really support it that much.

Overall, The Vita had the makings of a good handheld, but Sony botched it.

Re: Future Updates to Middle-earth: Shadow of War Will Remove Microtransactions

Onion

I've never fully understood what the big deal was about the lootboxes in the first place, and to cancel your preorder over it seems like a serious overreaction. You could just as well not buy the lootboxes in the first place, it's not like the game forces you to buy them and they're in no way necessary. To me, lootboxes always struck me as a way for gamers who have work, school, families, and other responsibilities that make the grinding associated with getting good orcs a less appealing option. I'm not a fan of lootboxes either and never bought a single one, but the overreaction against them always struck me as a bit ridiculous. They have nothing to do with the game and Shadow of War was an overall good game with or without lootboxes. I think at this point, gamers simply associate lootboxes with greed and react negatively to their very existence, even if said existence has nothing to do with the game and is purely optional. I was much more annoyed by the amount of clothing, guns, and other items locked behind a paywall in Ghost Recon: Wildlands than I was lootboxes for this one.

The fact Monolith is able to simply take them out proves all along you never needed the lootboxes, but I do agree that their existence undermined the Nemesis system. The idea of simply buying boxed orcs sounds a bit weird anyway and paints the mental image of a box of ors being boxed up and waiting shipment. Does Mordor have Amazon/Ebay too?

Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World Armor Sets – All Low and High Rank Armour and How to Craft Them

Onion

@FoxyGlen

A brief summary section for each armor that explain what it's useful for, what the skills do, etc would be helpful for people who don't have access to the game (For example, what Adrenaline does), but in it's current state I'd say the guide is impressively done. I'm not sure I'd use the guide, but being able to see what materials will be needed to build what armor ahead of time is extremely good to know. Formatting and everything else is pretty great, though. I'm just not sure how useful this will be for people who aren't familiar with some of the MH lingo. (I'm familiar with it, luckily).

Alternatively, you can consider doing an armor skills guide and linking it to this one. Another possible improvement is a second pic of the female variant so we can see what the armor looks like with boobs on it.

Hornetaur looks like the set I'll be aiming for!

Edit: On second thought, Diablos has critical draw... a Godsend if using a Greatsword. I'm also loving the Vespoid Armor, getting a big "Hornet Man" vibe from it.

Re: Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Open Beta Is Out Now on PS4

Onion

Honestly not too impressed with this game. I realize it's a beta, but I'd just stick with the PSP games at this point. This was a pretty pathetic showing IMO. Cluttered, clunky, bland as ****, music blows, gameplay boils down to mashing a button and watching a long combo, the moogle is annoying, the stages barely have any interactivity from what I've played so far...

I mean good lord this is a disaster. Even Ramza being in the game isn't enough to save it for me. Kinda curious what others think about this game.

Re: Soapbox: NieR: Automata Has the Best Credits Sequence of 2017

Onion

Definitely one of the games of the year for me. While it has numerous flaws, the heart and soul poured into the game shine through any of the cracks. The ending credits and getting the E ending in particular had a massive impact on me for days after playing it. The story of 2B and 9S is pretty much burned into my mind now and I consider this duo to be as classic as Snake and Otacon.

At some point, I intend to come back and platinum this one.

Re: Game of the Year 2017: #1 - Persona 5

Onion

I'm a bit conflicted with P5. While I agree it's fantastic, I'm not sure I agree that it's GOTY material. That's not a mark against it though, this year has been full of excellent releases! Part of my problem with it is that the game goes on rails far too often, with many events simply making the player a by-stander as you wade through text boxes. I thought P4 was bad about this but P5 is much worse, with Morgana constantly telling you to go to bed and many scenes simply dropping you off at home. I felt P3 was much better paced in this regard. Factor in cheap difficulty (this game really loves aoe criticals and instadeath spells) and the fact dungeon design gets progressively worse as you go, and it becomes a tiring game. Like others, I was ready for this game to end around the 70-80 hour mark but it just...keeps...going. The last 3 dungeons are total wastes of time. Oh and the final boss and ending are predictable as well. Definitely didn't feel as moving as Persona 3's ending. Not even sure it even compares to 4's ending. I found many characters downright unlikeable as well among the playable cast, but the supporting cast (Sae aside) I liked quite a bit. Most of the playable cast are the same archetypes from the last 2 games and I definitely agree the translation felt a bit dry. I only liked Futaba and Fox out of the main cast, and certain aspects of the main plot came off as a bit silly. (Basically, they always meet in crowded places and Ryuji always screams about being a Phantom Thief.)

I do however adore the fact this game mixes SMT with Persona, the music is top notch, and the UI is as stylish as I would expect from a Persona game. It's definitely a great game, but I can't help but think "Eh, it's another Persona game." Can't really say it's any better than 3 or 4. This one was probably the boldest entry so far though and I liked some of the social issues that were tackled.

Honestly can't fault Sammy for not liking it. It's not going to be for everyone, and I've had hardcore SMT/Persona fans come right out and admit the game goes on way too much, has too much padding, etc.

EDIT: Oh and I share the sentiment about Yakuza 0. That game's wit was off the charts, and I'm dying to see what they do with Fist of the North Star!

Re: Predator Stalks Ghost Recon: Wildlands Starting Tomorrow

Onion

Seemed more like the Predator is stalking the player, which is just as cool in my book. I didn't much think you could play AS the Predator I'm a HUGE Predator fan so just like that, this game is on my radar. I've heard good things about it, maybe I should give it a go regardless of how the Predator thing works out. I can vouch for the fact Predator is great in Mortal Kombat XL, and there's also some pretty good PC AVSP games with a solid Predator campaign. My favorite is the 2010 AVSP game.

Predator: Concrete Jungle on PS2 is also an option if you're willing to overlook some glaring flaws.

Does anyone know if this Predator mode will be available in single player? It sounds like it's limited to online, but the article mentions taking it on solo. I'm also curious if this is a limited run or will it be something you can repeat?

Re: Popular Platformer A Hat in Time Hops to PS4 Next Week

Onion

This was an adorable and fun experience for me on PC. It's not without flaws and I didn't enjoy it enough to 100% it, but it's a solid buy for the money. The primary flaw is that the last stretch of the game feels a bit phoned in and I suspect there was a time constraint of some kind to get the game finished. It also tends to "play it safe" too much by copying from Mario 64 and Sunshine way more than necessary. If there's ever a sequel, I'd like to see the developer push more of their own unique ideas and rely a bit less on past successes.

Since playing it, me and my friends can't stop talking like the Mafia from Hat in Time. "Mafia punch stupid _!". The game is just too much fun.

Re: Here's Almost 2 Hours of Yakuza 6 PS4 Gameplay in English

Onion

I've always felt 6 is the weaker game in the series and I'm not really a fan of the 6th game at all. I feel like players going from 0 and Kiwami to this will be underwhelmed. 6 is using a whole new engine and it shows, as the game has way less heat actions and such than 0 and Kiwami. The story is also remarkably bad in my opinion, and the controls feel clunkier.

Honestly I would stick to Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, those are great games. 6 is a step back in almost every possible way. Kiwami 2 will also be using the same engine as 6 (as far as I know), so here's hoping by then they improve on the engine.

Re: Dark Souls in the Style of Cuphead Is a Sight for Sore Eyes

Onion

The video itself is great, but I'm getting a bit tired of everything with even some modest amount of challenge being compared to Dark Souls. This game is more comparable to Contra or Gunstar Heroes than it is Dark Souls, and the game has multiple references to retro games.

...Hell, this game isn't even actually that hard (King Dice and Satan aside) and is actually standard difficulty for most games from the 80s and 90s. You think this is hard? Pfft. Play more NES games.

Either way, Cuphead is one of my favorite PC games at the moment. I had a real blast with it, and this video is pretty awesome. More awesome than it has any right to be.

Re: Review: The Sims 4 (PS4)

Onion

I'm surprised the review doesn't mention what a step back this game is from the previous one, or how the Sims games on consoles/handhelds up until now have been watered down versions of the PC games. I'm guessing the reviewer isn't a Sim's fan, cause the review is sorely lacking in information and is pitifully short. I suppose it's good to review the game on it's own merits, but there's a lot more that could have been said and the reviewer sounds like they're just going through the motions. I question if they even like the game.

Put simply, this game is not exactly doing well right now with Sims fans on PC, as it's pretty much inferior to the Sims 3 and arguably Sims 2. They removed the open world and many other features present in Sims 3, much to the dismay of fans. I'm not saying 7/10 isn't a good score, but I'd say it's slightly higher than the game deserves.

That said, the fact that this is on PS4 is a big plus, but I find it kind of annoying how EA is acting like they're doing console owners a big favor by finally giving us the same version PC owners have had and charging a premium to boot. Gee, thanks EA. Why not pile some lootboxes on it while you're at it you ****s.

Re: Assassin's Creed Origins PS4 Patch 1.05 Out Now, Fixes Bugs, Adds Haircut Options

Onion

@BAMozzy

This post says it all. For all the people whining about day one patches and such, READ WHAT THIS GUY SAYS! It's saving me a ton of trouble. As someone who has been gaming since 3 years old and has over 20 years experience with it, lemme tell you that the alternative to day one patches is far, far worse. Some games released back in the day were simply unplayable or had game-breaking bugs that NEVER got fixed. You lot complaining about a few patches are living a pampered, spoiled life compared to gaming in the old days where bugs were forever. Sure, some retro gaming glitches can be cute and funny, but the ones (like in Tomb Raider 3) that can completely ruin your whole file or games like Soul Caliber 3 (which to this day is borderline unplayable with glitches, including one that can corrupt your whole memory card) are not quite so cute.

Ideally, no game would need a patch, ever. But that's simply unrealistic. I can also vouch that for the most part, this is a pretty stable game right out of the box. There's always room for improvement, though.

Or you could code your own game and come back and tell me how easy it is to make a bug-free game.
