Re: Marvel Rivals Is Off to a Heroic Start with 10 Million Players in First Three Days

IllusiveMan

It’s quite impressive from what I’ve tried and it’s even enhanced for the PS5 Pro, characters have amazing designs and unique moves, mechanics for each of them are neatly done and it feels different to play with each one of them, best thing imo however it’s not even close to being as predatory as Overwatch is which is a huge W.

But I remember some author here saying that it sucked but Concord somehow left him great impressions… needless to say more lol.

Re: Kadokawa Wants Sony's Full Commitment with Buyout of Entire Company

IllusiveMan

While the potential is big just keep in mind it’s a ton of money and Sony just doesn’t have the infinite cash as Microsoft or Tencent, meaning the integration of Kadokawa could lead to mass layoffs, shutdowns and closures not only within Kadokawa but Sony’s current business too in the short and medium term after the merger is complete.

TLDR: I’m worried about Sony’s stability after spending that amount of money, especially after their other huge investment in live-services didn’t pan out.

Re: Fortnite OG Sticks Around As Permanent Mode from 6th December

IllusiveMan

@nomither6 Just look back at the live services from 7 years ago, most don’t exist anymore, the ones that do had to come up with a “sequel” while having the same game due to player dropout, and I think Fortnite is the only one who managed to stay relevant all these years, I still play it from time to time and I always have fun.

Re: Sony Boss Says It's 'Learned a Lot' from PC Player Pushback

IllusiveMan

Player pushback is good but mounting hate campaigns and review bombing great games is a bit much, just don’t buy it, and tbh all of this could and should have been avoided very easily by Sony, now I don’t know if porting games is still worth the effort as everything now will be ridiculously scrutinized or outright rejected by the PC audience.

And tbf I do think the account requirement for single player games specifically is BS, you can play games off discs in PS5 without ever having to log in, why in PC should it be any different? To rack up active PS players stats is the only explanation I find ‘reasonable’, but wasn’t worth burning bridges with that audience.

Re: In the UK, You Can't Buy a PS5 Pro Disc Drive without Paying a Premium

IllusiveMan

@get2sammyb I know but people seem to want the option for the disc drive even if most won’t use it, that’s why still most sold consoles are with the disc drive included even if the digital edition is cheaper, and again, the Pro is geared towards enthusiasts which I bet are a good part of that 25% that still buy physical media.

My point is that the reason it’s not included is to intentionally squeeze another $80 from enthusiasts who went all the way to spend $700 in a console, as they knew this is precisely the audience that still values physical media; if it was the other way around we would’ve seen the Slim launching an only digital model with the disc drive sold separately but conveniently the only-digital model is the most expensive one.

Re: PS5 Pro vs PS5: Full Tech Specs Comparison

IllusiveMan

@get2sammyb Sure, but not having those generational leaps while having the most expensive console hardware in history just don’t go well together, it’s all just diminishing returns now, you used to get a $300 console and get a generational leap with it, even PS4 Pro at $399 was noticeable as we went from 1080p to 2K/4K.

But now the improvements are negligible, my takeaway from Cerny’s presentation was that most games wouldn’t make you choose between performance and quality mode but no, most games still make you choose and you literally have to zoom in to notice any difference.

Re: More People Are Playing the Original Horizon Zero Dawn Than Its Remaster on PC

IllusiveMan

@dskatter Not necessarily, no one said Nixxes should be a remaster-only studio, they could be a support studio that evolves into making their own game just like Bend, and whatever time and money spent on this could’ve been spent on the next installment of the trilogy, instead of making prettier an already made and readily available game, and even if they were a remaster-only studio I’d argue those same resources could’ve been used to remaster a game that actually needs it, like half the library of PS3.

Sony could literally announce an Astro Bot remaster tomorrow and some could still try to justify it somehow…

Re: Concord Cost Sony Over $200 Million, And Didn't Make a Single Cent

IllusiveMan

I’m really baffled at how Hermen Hulst is now CEO as he pushed for this game so much, convinced Sony to buy the studio and for years he never noticed how it could go wrong?

Even in his statement he says some aspects of Concord were ‘exceptional’ but honestly absolutely nothing about it was “exceptional”, some well done but absolutely nothing stuck out, there’s MUCH to learn from this flop…

Re: Sony Wanted PS5 Exclusivity for Crimson Desert, But Dev Reportedly Declined

IllusiveMan

@get2sammyb I think his point was that there’s no point in paying to keep a third-party game off Xbox and instead that same money should be invested in their first-party output or not trying to milk out customers to offset their low profit margins because of losses from a failed live-service push.

I do agree that Sony most of the time has good eye and the fact they’re willing to pay for exclusivity means that the game is promising, but it won’t be better or worse if being kept as a Sony exclusive.

Re: Some Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Fans Are Furious It's Not Getting DLC

IllusiveMan

I’m not disappointed in the lack of DLC but the main story and the game itself feels really cut short, and we know from the leak there’s indeed lots of cut content, when I replayed the game in NG+ focusing only on the story I noticed how badly it’s paced and some bits feel like they just stitched it together, that just didn’t happen on the first game nor even in Miles Morales which I’ve replayed both for 3+ times, I didn’t noticed it that much in my first playthrough since I was doing side content at the same time than advancing the main story.

It gives me the feeling that Insomniac are being rushed around, they got SM Remastered, Miles Morales, R&C Rift Apart, SM2, Venom and Wolverine all launched in around 6 years while many other studios haven’t been able to deliver ONE game for the PS5, but it’s clear they needed more time for SM2 and I hope they give them enough time for Venom and Wolverine, as they plan to release them a year between each other.

Re: Spider-Man 2 Won't Receive Any PS5 Story DLC

IllusiveMan

@DennisReynolds Yeah but in the same leak those expansions were not in the roadmap so maybe they were already cancelled for the Venom game, who knows but I also can’t shake the feeling that SM2 ended up being disappointing, I recently replayed it in NG+ and tbh I struggled to finish it, without the hype I realized many flaws with the game but specially the pacing is much worse than the first one which I’ve played like 4-5 times.

Re: Spider-Man 2 Won't Receive Any PS5 Story DLC

IllusiveMan

Why sell a $20-30 DLC when you can sell a $50-60 “standalone expansion”? It already worked with Miles Morales (which was in every way a DLC for the first game), and we already know a Venom expansion is being sold as a full game next year (Insomniac’s leak).
