Sucker Punch has finally pulled back the curtain on Ghost of Yotei, the next tentpole PS5 exclusive launching later this year, on 2nd October.
This presentation was the deep dive we’ve all been waiting for, delving into the key facets of the forthcoming follow-up: exploration, combat, and personalisation.
For us, the big takeaway here is that the sequel has been designed with a player-first philosophy.
“The world of Yotei is vast,” creative director Nate Fox noted during the demo. “But it’s not about checking everything off. It’s about engaging with what excites you.”
A new clue system will allow you to get to the content you want much quicker.
As you defeat enemies, you’ll be able to interrogate them to unlock clues, in the form of playing cards. As you assemble enough of these, they’ll turn into leads, which will help guide you around the map.

Sucker Punch says it doesn’t want you to rush, but instead wants you to explore at your own pace. It noted that sometimes the best thing to do is simply wander around the world and explore the things that grab your attention.
This sense of freedom will expand to the combat system, where you’ll have dozens of different weapons to master. Some will be advantageous against different types of enemies, but it’s ultimately down to you how you want to approach each skirmish and play.
Furthermore, the type of equipment you assign to heroine Atsu will further tailor your play. And, of course, you’ll be free to unlock various different types of armour and cosmetics to further customise your look.
As a lone wolf, Atsu will sleep under the stars, but she will form bonds with other characters.
However, each time you set up camp, those allies – known as the Wolf Pack – will come to you, meaning you won’t need to keep travelling backwards and forwards to different merchants. This, according to Sucker Punch, will allow you to continue on your adventure wherever you are.

If all of that’s not enough, you’ll be able to play through the single player campaign in Japanese with full lipsync and subtitles if you like. And there’ll be various different modes inspired by a number of legendary Japanese directors.

it's ticking all the right boxes for me, like I said in the chat, Sucker punch have listened to feed back and it shows.
Their approach to the open world seems promising, less hand holding and checkbox style design and more exploration, which is good to hear.
Also the storytelling through perspective changes from the past and present seems like a cool feature, curious to see how it’ll all play out
It feels very smoke and mirrors to be honest, all that typical open world stuff is clearly there its just hid away better. This isn't like say Breath of the World or Elden Ring where you really do have to explore to find stuff. That card thing they showed is basically a fancy way of adding icons to the map.
I know i sound negative there but i actually don't mind that its not like ER or Zelda i just wish the Devs would own the fact Ghost is a typical Ubi style open world. They do it better then Ubi so just own it stop acting like this series is giving you "real freedon" and "true exploration" because its not once you look past the smoke and mirrors.
I will not make friends with this statement but I‘m having a really hard time seeing any visual difference between GoT gameplay and GoY gameplay. No graphical upgrade it seems
I really hope there is an option for the normal map markers - I dont mind a bit of exploring but if the map is large, it gets very boring very quickly for me.
This just feels like a way to further pad out run time to me - I hope im wrong.
@Cerny Ok that's just bait, I'm sorry.
@DennisReynolds "They do it better then Ubi so just own it stop acting like this series is giving you "real freedon" and "true exploration" Well until we have the game in our hands (or see more) we will just have to believe Sucker Punch when they talk about the open world, Maybe a hot take but I found BoTW open world boring, I'd would much rather run around in GoT map then it.
Just make it so it doesn't have ***** question marks on the map making the golden birds they want you to follow pointless.
@Oram77 I agree. I just hope the story doesn't suffer. Open world games where you can go wherever you want, when you want tend to have crap stories and it was the side stories that carried me through the first game. Well that and the combat system and beautiful world.
@Cerny I couldn't care less for the graphical quality. It looked good in Ghost of Tsushima and still manages to look good here and especially with the beautiful artstyle.
@Oram77 They said the same thing about GoT and it just ended up being a Ubi open world except winds guides you everywhere instead of a quest marker. Very quickly i found the game lacked actual proper exploration that rewards curiosity. I don't mind that i love Ubi style open worlds its just i wish the Devs would stop acting like they're above that design where they're doing that exact design just with smoke and mirrors hiding it better.
And then it turns into the average open world slog when going for the platinum.
This sequel has added some QoL features, which will certainly enhance what was already a good first game.
If I am being real, this is GOT 2.0, With Graphics a bit better vs the PS5 version of GOT and a new protagonist. It's not the generational leap like a Ratchet and Clank PS4 game vs the latest PS5 game, as GOT was already excellent for PS4, but I feel like I will enjoy the story all the same, and I am up for some more Ghost after a few years' break.
Hmm…not sure I agree with “stuns”. It looks all right but not a gigantic leap. Honestly chuckled a little bit when I read that headline.
I think the game overall looks really cool, but I don't know what to make of that card system. They didn't do the best job explaining why they decided to go with it and how it encourages freedom. As others have said, it seems like smoke and mirrors. I'm also still not sold on the nonlinear path to taking down the Yōtei Six. I'd prefer a much more linear and curated main story path from a pacing standpoint.
But, like I said, everything else looks like exactly what I want from a Ghost of Tsushima sequel.
@Lastochka That's true for all open world games.
Man so underwhelming. Great everything except gameplay.
They said the same about the first game.
The thing is that it's not true when you have experience rewards for activities and skill trees and achievements to do it all.
We will look at the map and we will see it as a groceries list, just like every other open world.
Sucker Punch just doesn't miss. No doubt this will be one of the best of the year. Probably the last thing that stands a chance against Expedition 33 for my GOTY. Can't wait!
I guess we will see if they are true to their word when trophy lists come out. Do they expect us to do EVERY repetitive side quest, like in the first game, or is there actually room for “NOT checking everything off” as they say.
@Cerny Are you unaware of how Sony has been handling their first party games this gen? This whole gen has been about ps4 visuals @60fps instead of 30fps. Look at GoW:R and Spiderman 2, and now Ghost Y. 60fps is great, but it came at a cost this generation.
I fully respect that. The cards or the young/old switch immediately made me excited. I'm not the target audience but I respect those ideas so much. The formula is so boring at this point ideas like these make me go wow. I am glad they stepped up and did something with it. They spent their time wisely, even if it doesn't work I still respect it then just 'this universe but that', 'make us money following this trend and spin off nothing of worth' and odd refinements that are good or average but really don't do a lot.
Using a trend wisely is important. I have been more interested in shooters with mechanics of PS3/360 era or platformers of 5th gen, racing sims/arcade ones of 6th gen then I have any open worlds, roguelikes, metroidvanias or any of the modern trends. Why? Because gameplay design ideas were better and many nowadays are just so focused on characters and worlds but the level designs, personality and movesets are so copy paste boring. Make a book/movie/visual novel instead. Not a gameplay lacking game with boring movement mechanics, lacking modes, too much focus on your world/culture and the style/art or dialogue. I don't even care about in Indies not just AAA/AA, if it's not even fun to explore, do combat, puzzles if it has any and so on. That's why I hate modern games. They are bland and boring. I don't want a platformer to be an open world small scale, I want it to be a game about movement mechanics. To have to even say that is just stupid how dumb game developers are for what illusion they offer and the game sucks because of it. I want quality design not illusionary garbage, no matter how underskilled Indies or high budget and whatever publisher demands/coordination AAA. It reflects and the marketing I ignore, the gameplay I focus on and the rest is garbage illusionary nonsense.
This game I respect heavily for what it's combining. It is cinematic, but also smartly designed of personality/gameplay and that's my point.
Justifying emotional moments, not forcing them or me or tropes following a checklist I don't care about anyway.
Pacing, level design, mechanics, they matter not just visuals and artstyles, I don't want style. I want substance and they gave it substance. About time. I don't want reviews about production value if it's about graphically, dialogue/voice acting and other fluff. I want gameplay substance, personality that is meaningful in menus, I hate too many but if it's well contextualised I will be happy. Most times I'm not and it's too many menus, too many boxes and lazy design or confusing navigation with the lazy boxes that aren't helpful of minimalism/simplicity because I'm still lost.
@darylb24 To me the structure of the gameplay is more dramatically different (I don't have Tsushima context as I didn't play it but when I talked to someone who had it made sense or maybe gives enough illusion of change, will have to see) makes Ratchet Rift Apart using the SSD being overly scripted look weak.
As a Ratchet fan I was disappointed. It did nothing interesting at all. It was an ok return to the 2007 to 2013 Tools and Nexus storyline (and another to be continued excuse) but felt did nothing. Tools had it's fair moments of new ideas, Ratchet 2 & 3 ideas, Crack in Time wasn't open world (wouldn't have wanted) but expanded ideas from typical formula, then everything else was just Tools base/refined, pass. Nexus I give a pass, short, had spin off games of multiplayer Sony wanted, but good with few ideas/reusing old ideas in a short game.
2016 eh it's a remake with good/bad ideas. Rift Apart I don't give a pass for that use of old formula regardless of a return, weak. Waiting & formula milking/not a lot to it, pass. If dropped Future Saga storyline/game direction sure. But nope.
While others like a Banjo Nuts and Bolts or others can be too far yet fans love Crack in Time (rare cases like that and many hate the not same staff/games they prefer of PS2 era that Size Matters/Secret Agent Clank I think were fair for of ideas,, different staff, I was fine with that) and even if not from gameplay and more story, I can see why.
But I am a gameplay type more so.
To me Rift Apart's new ideas were ok but not great and the ones it was trying to keep from Tools were there and Crack in Time's returning ideas were weak as ever. Let alone 2 character dynamic that I can understand in a Secret Agent Clank/Assassin's Creed Shadows can be hit/miss, but in Rift Apart it added nothing but story. But gameplay wise added nothing, oh hammer for a few things, no jet boots/Clank differences, weapons unique to the dimension. Nope.
Blizar was the only interesting planet that impressed me, the Nefarious City one was just a small region, I have seen cut off areas in games before with illusionary backgrounds, it was pathetically badly used and scripted, also no dynamic boss battle jumping of rifts why? Crack In Time had 3 of those moments, not as frantic of grinding rails type stuff sure, Crack in Time's were more simple, but that's expected on PS3 what they were trying to do, with PS5 and yeah sure not as much time with the console, but even still.
I am not the Tsushima/other open whatevers target audience either (I prefer Sunset Overdrive or Gravity Rush or Infamous Second Son more in their gameplay uses, not open world interested type at all) so me being impressed over this game when Crack in Time did it's execution of ideas (Biomutant/Zelda young & adult dynamics their way) in 2009 of skyboxes, story telling and gameplay uses of it & Rift Apart poorly does something even a PS3 did better is why I think Rift Apart is bad gameplay wise & story was fine but just wow we already did Ratchet/Clank development, lets do alternative Ratchet 1/2016, it didn't make me care.
Did we have to wait far in the console life cycle for games to do interesting things, sure but even still.
Graphics wise sure, but substance/context Rift Apart was so bad I gave up on it, watched lets play by Useless podcast Ratchet 2 & 3 devs, still hate.
@Nem Those are the things that put me off open worlds too, to me the young/old and the cards to change things up (even having directions to lead the story in then just 1 result) may solve that if utilised well but we will see. It could be contexualise or an illusion of change. That can happen.
Otherwise yeah if it's just skill trees, boring use of stats RPGs or open worlds have been doing for years now, outposts with not a lot changing them up and dots to key areas and boring gameplay basic side missions then yeah pass. It depends HOW they use them. It is a formula for a reason as some see it work or it's a trend to follow but to me past trends had great gameplay ideas and others in the modern era I find haven't been as appealing as much but that's just my view from how shooters/racing/platformers did things AAA or B grade versus nowadays Indies/AAA/AA all of them I find elements being pretty boring but others may find what they are looking for.
But I was into Sunset Overdrive, Gravity Rush or Infamous Second Son ways of doing things anyway. Not most other open worlds that had more impact many follow. So I am out of the loop/not the target audience/don't fully understand either.
It has the same exact plasticy lighting that I couldn't withstand on the first one, so I am probably going to skip it.
This is PushSquare's 2025 GOTY in advance 🤣before they've even played it , they ain't got no choice 🤣, they're obligated. Like Spiderman 2 over BG3 in 2023, oh my good ol' Push🟦. 😆
I’m surprised how negative the comments are. The big first party showing from one of the marquee studios and people really don’t seem to like what they’re seeing. Wow.
just watched state of play. it looks amazing to me.
it`s funny how people praise breath of the wild, when it`s just a ubi open world like every other, they just hide the markers and the checklist and everyone fall for it, you have the same enemy bases, the same shrines, the same bosses, the same collectibles, even the same watch towers, you even have the same 3 enemies copy pasted everywhere, but hide the interface and everyone fall for it.
@Oram77 you cant be that easily lead,I'm.really looking forward to Yotei, but after last night, after seeing they didn't update the gfx at all or OK very little, it makes me wonder what else they went lazy on, cause as of right now its GoT with some lipstick, pig is still a pig etc, again not a bad thing but people believing this will be different will be in for a shock. A big thing for me also is a good progression tree as you level l, yeah we seen the weapons skill trees but I feel they'll feel more organic than " boost player power" i dont know alot worries about this but alot excites
I only buy a few games, and now having a PC too I seem to have bought them again. So a game has to tick what I want to play and a single player approach is exactly it, Tsushima has been beaten to platinum on psn(PS4 and PS5) and all achievements on steam. It shows that when done right a single player experience is still achievable. Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, eventually, GTA4, RDR 1&2, inFamous. Cat nip for the oldie. There are many more I know but can't just list em.
Ok. I'm great with “own pace” gameplay and only doing what you want moment to moment, that flexibility is great - as long as nothing is missable. That’s what ruined BG3 for me. At heart I’m a completionist and I don’t want to have to play a game 10 times, or use a guide, to see everything; but if a game lets me go back at the end to mop things up then great.
Funny seeing people says it's graphics don't look as good as Got, yet GoT has better visuals than the majority of PS5 games. Literally any excuse to hate on a Sony made game these days.
I think it looks leaps ahead of GOT stylistically, however you can see it’s an evolution of what’s came before which I think is prompting people to question graphics.
We have reached a plateau in graphics power now really and I think personally it looks gorgeous, what more do people want?
The improvement im looking for is in the side content, this was the weakest part of GOT for me but the dlc hinted at improvements in this areas
No offense but i'm worried for people who said Yotei graphics doesn't looks as good as Tsushima. Either they're too poor to have good internet where they can watch video above 240p, they have problems with their eyes, or something more serious that needs medical attention asap 🙏
Anyway...
I never feel Tsushima activities / side quest is just checking off a map. I never get bored following the cute foxes to found the Inari shrines, cutting bamboo, writing haiku, dipping in the hot spring, the mythic tales, etc. Even playing flute at the top of the mountain or in the middle of grassland after slaughtered the Mongols or bandits was fun and weirdly relaxing lol.
Imho Tsushima activities was a big improvement compare to inFamous side quest. So i trust the director words that Yotei will have better activities / side quest than Tsushima.
Just let me skip dialogue and it's a 10/10, hated the sidequests that had 20 minutes of dialogue about a missing cow.
Fabulous, I can't wait, the atmosphere in the 1st was incredible and I loved the combat, looks great and I am confident it will play great.
The different modes look good too, I thought the black and white Kurosawa mode was beautiful in GoT and I am really keen to try the Takashi Miike mode as a big fan of his films!
@Uromastryx "you cant be that easily lead" right ok that's fair enough, but on the flip side one could argue you shouldn't be so negative and also calling them lazy is crazy work, everything we saw looked like they their heart and souls into.
Looks great. Really sold by the presentation... Atsu seems cool. But a checklist where you choose what to check first? It's just not listed until you find clues? Okay. I suppose it's a bit different from just having question marks in the map.
@Th3solution It's not just in this case, gamers have simply become a relentlessly negative bunch these days. The internet thrives on negativity. I suspect many just tune in to gameplay reveals, summer fests, showcases, etc with the intention to focus on the negatives and complain about what they're about to see and then consider themselves a discerning consumer.
Best to try to ignore it all and enjoy what you enjoy. Although I have to admit it gets exhausting if you still visit game sites and forums and just genuinely want to talk about games with fellow enthusiasts.
It's crazy this game wasn't even revealed this time last year. And it has more gameplay than State of Decay 3, Fable, Everwild and Perfect Dark combined.
DA ROADMAP games, that are basically development hell games after half a decade, are not the future.
Looks great, day1 for me
@LazyDaisy to me, framerate is part of fidelity.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare sign of the times.
@Oram77 I'm more like 70% positive 30% negative, i dont mean they are super lazy at the all but the ground work is almost 5 years old, and it " looks" dated gfx wise, i think thats a fair assessment, again not a bad thing Tshushima is amazing and im sure thus will be also, I will be getting it day one, i think I'm just slightly disappointing after looking at DS2 all week which looks incredible
I'm going to say 'stuns' is a bit of a stretch.
No one said that GoT looks BETTER than GoY. I said both look pretty much the same. And this is pathetic on a new level. You would think they make great use of the PS5 but it just looks like a late PS4 game. Not even close to PS4‘s TLoU2.
I will 100% play this game but come on SP. It‘s 2025, update your visuals. And I think the gameplay was captured in 30fps? So if this is the quality mode.. fml.
I love Tsushima, and I was blown away by the gameplay video, it was super fun do watch... And then I went to the internet, lol.
People just can't seem to find anything positive to say anymore. Yotei looks awesome, and yet all I read was "it's just Tsushima again", "the graphics are the same as a PS4 game".
Seriously? You guys seem so negative that I don't think you actually like any video game.
Looks like copy and paste job
@Uromastryx To be fair Death Stranding 2 is making everything look "ugly" at the moment, Decima engine master race.
@AlexPorto
Just accept the fact that some people love technical evolutions. Tbh I expected a visual shift like TLoU1 vs. TLoU2. We don‘t care about the fact that a woman is now the protagonist, we don‘t care about all the open world stuff.
We just wanted to see a visual upgrade. God damn it‘s a first party sony studios game and they couldn‘t even update the fighting animations.
Oh and I totally forgot about the „everything-clips-through-absolutely-everything“ thing.. if they didn‘t update this I‘m done with SP. They don‘t care about anything on a technical level
The first game to me was insanely overrated
@DennisReynolds thank god its nothing like elden ring, its just a series of boss battles on a big empty map , overhyped in my opinion.
@AlexPorto the graphics are nothing like a ps4 game though , silly people 😂
@Uromastryx to be fair although I believe its a design choice more than a lack of talent , ds2 is quite empty the majority of the time , there is far more going on in the world in yotei at any one time, the texture clarity is superb ,and it probably had the best looking waterfall at the end of the video, I've ever seen
@PuppetMaster its hip to hate everything ,did you not know? come on fella get with the times 😂 I blame the stupid plastic money we are now forced to endure , can't even get a tenner out of your pocket, without it bouncing round everywhere.
@AlexPorto Everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion, but I get exhausted by the strong reactions to every game from the bits of gameplay we see before release.
I go all over the internet and see: “I was SUPER hyped for this game, but based on this snippet I hate it and will never play it!!!!!” I just sincerely doubt that kind of sentiment. If this small gameplay sample turned a person, they were not on board with this game to start with.
It is not some huge revelation that GOY is going to be an open world game with a checklist that has touches that invigorate that formula. GOT did the exact same thing. We are getting a sequel to that game-it is expected. There was not a huge graphical leap between PS4 and PS5. This game looks completely on par with this entire generation.
I am really looking forward to the game, but 20 minutes of gameplay from a 50 plus hour game would have a hard time changing my mind one way or the other.
I like this community, but I have said it here before: discussion of games in the internet age is getting tiresome. People form such strong and outspoken opinions when no reviewer or player has even had a chance to play the dang game. It is silly.
@Westernwolf4 I dont understand why people think the formula to an open world sequel, should be drastically different , i mean what did they want ? A soulslike , first person shooter , people are daft.
As much as I loved the first game, please do not have them damn repetitive 'save the hostages' to claim the base quests.
But meh, I'm not a creator, guess its hard to fill an open world with interesting and unique quests such as Elder Scrolls.
I won't be buying day one, it looks as padded as the first one.
@lazarus11 I agree. I am reading around the internet, and I don’t know why some people were expecting a hugely different game from the highly successful and beloved first one.
“Sequel to fantastic game does many of the same things and is the same kind of game. Shocking news at 11.”
@LazyDaisy I think it looks significantly better and that's from a youtube video. I love the painterly style of this series. The colors pop and the white is so damn white, if that makes any sense.
@Korgon Yeah, literally have never made a bad game
I'm so tired of people constantly sharing their honest opinions. This is a Sony first party title, you're supposed to seal clap, declare it game of the year then have a glass of milk.
Coming off from Death Stranding 2 it’s clear this game’s focus is not on graphics, I’m not sure why people get mad from others pointing it out, it looks very similar as Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut which is perfectly fine for me but nothing wrong in admitting there isn’t a ‘stunning’ leap here, visuals, structure, and gameplay all look very similar, and again, more Ghost is enough for me to want it as I loved the first game.
Also all the footage we’ve seen so far is from base PS5 so the Pro version is expectedly going to look better.
@lazymike Uhh isn’t it what they’re doing here as well? Just hiding the markers but all the checklist stuff is still there? Lmao.
I think it looks incredible, and very much a sequel at the same time. I don’t understand how people get this notion that a sequel is going to be a completely different game entirely. This goes for games, film, and books. What you should be expecting is refined gameplay, tighter mechanics, and an evolution from their predecessor, which seems to be happening with all of the new weapons you’re able to use.
Moreover, I don’t see how people are complaining about the graphics. Seriously, graphics for most games nowadays look incredible. How much more “realistic” do you want? I don’t see how it can get much better than what’s currently out. Instead, I think it’s important to focus on the creative art style games are leaning towards, and GoY has that in spades. If you combine that with its black and white mode, or the musical score from the Samurai Champloo, then you have a game that reaches the heights it has set out to do.
I honestly don’t care about graphics anymore because every game looks good. What I do care about is performance. If it reaches 60fps then I’ll be very satisfied with this game — nothing looks bad about it at all. Truly, it’s very clear that this game will in no way, shape or form be considered less than “good”, and probably “great”.
@IOI pretty much. my problem is just with the double standards.
i liked the first game but it had its problems, hope they fix them with the sequel.
@Westernwolf4 sure of course more of the same is expected...but if all the people cheer and clap like sheep cause its sony first party they'll never change, we know what a sony first party is capable of already , take for example Assassins creed last 4 entries...yes more of the same...but from Origins to Shadows look how much has changed, and sales have increased continuously,.because they improve and change core pieces and upgrade visuals, Again this is still day one for me, just expected more I guess, but maybe it will be....still 3 months til release
@lazymike It’s just a different context, BOTW released more than 8 years ago and back then every open world game had tons of markers, it really was the first game of these type where exploration felt truly rewarding and every game since has learned from this or make it even better, including Ghost of Tsushima, if you don’t like double standards why do you complain that people praised that 8 years ago but ignore that both Ghost games have clearly learned from it?
If you loved the ghost like me you are gonna love ghost 2.
More big better really.
The problem with open world games they must be hard to make different. Like AC shadows some love it some hate it.
You have to give some story and some direction, the best I think you can do is make the open world interesting and give lots of things to do.
But make everything you collect or task have some really good reward going towards you character and game progression in some way but also meaningful.
@IOI
I have to give TOTK my open world top game
I think it was Links capabilities that gave you options to do things in many different ways.
Yes there was some quiet bland moments and strange exploration, but overall the capabilities and most things you did where meaningful and helped your character or development that puts it top open world game for me.
@OldGamer999 Exploration wise there’s probably nothing better, nothing beats building a flying monobike and explore half the map lol, that’s the point of my previous comment, BOTW and TOKT are so praised because they innovated the genre and even you didn’t like those games specifically I’d bet all open-world games have been better off since, and perhaps games like Elden Ring or Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei wouldn’t be as good as they are or even exist without what BOTW did back in 2017, credit where credit is due.
@Uromastryx I would argue that there is a pretty big difference between "clapping like sheep" and recognizing that a sequel to a successful game is going to build on what made the original successful. Some folks around the internet don't seem to understand this.
My main point, however, is the insanity of strong conclusions either way based on 20 minutes of out of context gameplay. I have all the different consoles. I don't care if this is Sony first party. If I play it and its bad, I'll criticize it. If it reviews badly, I'll criticize it. What I won't do is render final immovable judgement based on a glorified trailer-especially with the track record of Sucker Punch.
The internet is becoming a not good place to discuss games. You say things like: "Maybe we should wait until someone plays the thing", and suddenly the internet brands you as a mindless sheep. We are living in strange times.
@IOI
Absolutely, but I’m surprised to this day, but maybe copy right stops it or just studio pride, that more of TOTK or BOTW has not been copied into a new open world games.
Especially the capabilities in TOTK.
Maybe it’s my age but AC shadows which I like still feels rinse and repeat to me and so does Ghost 2. I like both so that’s ok, but gaming does seem very much the same for the last 5 years are so.
@IOI not really complain, just read a comment praising breath of the wilds and slandering ghost for hiding checklist.
they are both good games to me, just find zelda overrated, even 8 years ago.
i just love classic dungeon formula better.
@Westernwolf4 I absolutely agree that no final judgement should be rendered no chance, and i sit the same as you ill wait to play before I say my final thoughts, but this reaction from people is expected on a 20min showing, it also serves the devs maybe 1 final chance to see if any drastic changes are needed, but so far I dont see any changes needed, I just like shiny and new 😔
@lazarus11 I mean its not but sure whatever.
@Uromastryx I get it, and I want to be clear that the frustration I am voicing here is about the wider Internet conversation, not this conversation.
I hope you and I both enjoy this when it comes out! If not, I am sure we will not be alone in our disappointment. 😃
I don't think it'll blow me away but it looks pretty damn good. I'll be playing this right after Tsushima for the first time. Looking forward to both, though more towards the first because of its stellar reputation.
@UltimateOtaku91 Um seriously? Have you seen the hate towards MS and their games, including all the layoff news? Have you seen all the hate towards Nintendo and their prices? Stop the double standard with PS.
I kind of enjoyed the first game, but it took me three bites of the cherry to get through it. The game felt very repetitive, so I had to take long breaks before I was ready to go back to it each time over an 18 month period.
I'm sure the sequel will be more of the same, so I'm in no rush to play it when there's so much else to play. I'll probably just borrow it from a friend in a year or so when I'm ready to stomach another map-mopper again. I'm sure it'll sell just fine though, and I'm glad so many people are getting what they want from it. Some of my friends live for this style of open world game, and it makes their year, so I'm glad they've got this to look forward to.
@themightyant I always appreciate it when a trophy will need 20 cats annoyed but there are 80 cats in the game so you'll likely get the trophy organically rather than having to scour the entire map
@Mintie yeah I think its always best like instead of 100% collection, as you said if its like 25% there's a good chance you get it along the way, because general collectibles clean up is the last thing ya do, which in turn can leave a bad taste
I'm curious to see how this plays, I love open world games but I also do understand gamers frustration with them as of late. Modern Developers have found cleaver ways around the parts of an open world exploration with map icons and such, but to be honest having your HUD full of icons defeats the propose of exploring a beautiful open world to when there's tons of S***T on your screen... Before anyone replies with "Elden Ring did it" my response to that is... No they didn't. IMO I bounced off that game after level 40, I couldn't stand wasting time on a hard boss fight I found in a cave only to get a staff I will never use. because in Elden Ring there was literally no way to tell what was actually worth exploring on the map for your current character build, and if you took a chance on a cave and wasted three hours in it only to get junk equipment, too bad. Nothing is more annoying then beating your head against a wall in a boss fight for a useless reward.
So Yeah, this might be cool new way to discover things in an open world.
I was hoping for it to be its own thing it looks to much like the first game not that its a bad thing its just it would of been crazy if it was totally something different errr
@Oram77 agreed, always best to wait, to me the new direction looks cool but who knows it could be more tedious or not in need of changing. Some can give an illusion then an actual change to things, it does happen. But we won't know till people start playing and go yeah the old format was better or oh it's close but it just needs a few tweaks. Who knows till it releases or they show more.
I haven't even played Tsushima and to me I was like oh these are some cool ideas/changes while talking to a fan of it that is interested in the game, so I got my confirmation of how the first game was and new changes. I knew bits and pieces about the stances for combat or enough of how the game functioned from a player, and if I can tell how the new direction is or even hardware use and never played it, I think many others are just baiting or don't look deep enough at major changes or refinements.
Even then the use of yellow then red, or other visual details is obvious, do people just go oh another Japanese setting Samurai game (or too many on the market) when Sucker Punch clearly shows they wanted to change things up.
But people can't tell between finer details in the more rocks/grass, how they use the trees compared to Assassin's Creed Shadows world design (even playing Valkyrie Elysium PS4 compared to PS5 I saw less grass/objects or enemies or otherwise, or the frame rate or other details, I have no interest in PS5 and can tell the differences in PS5 versus PS4 or whatever devs are going for with objects in the environment, more characters in regions, particle effects, the literal fog covering the mountain, was easy to see, on PS4 it would be very thick or we wouldn't even see vistas/valleys or other things as much, if people are that dumb, they need to pick up on the signs devs are showcasing.
I picked up on these details myself or from others.
If players are that stupid and can't tell what most modern games differ in then they are missing the point or need more glaring in their face to tell the differences that's just sad).
I'm a gameplay type and still pay attention to what visual tricks are offered, technology or just a creative decision, but I don't expect everyone to know Spyro 1 had level of design and had 2 versions of a level to achieve that trick and people used the swimming in the air glitch to show it off besides the Cliff Town glide (among others). Or any other random things devs have done over the years 2D/3D, etc., it helps and gives context, but not everyone is going to do that.
But I can name many shooters, racing, platformers and more based on their mechanics as reasons I want to buy them, not just oh it's a trend move on or oh it's said setting.
Part 2:
Even the young/old idea and use of hardware to me is cool. I wish Rift Apart attempted something as good as that in it's own way as I found it's use of PS5 a bit underwhelming even compared to the PS3 attempt.
But some of us do pay attention or have a logical understanding even without seeing the code or sitting in meetings because we pay attention and everyone else just looks at what they see, the basic stuff, but don't really understand what has changed unless it's a completely different setting/world, characters or tone I guess.
They just go, oh it's another game, & don't understand what they changed. If they are new to gaming sure, if they aren't but don't go deep sure, but people that can tell, can tell.
I think it had dramatic enough changes. If I never played the first one or don't care for Sony 1st party these days but still pay attention to the details they offer, how are people missing the point?
To me in BOTW the use of items was fun, the world itself was boring. But I was more into the shrines, the chests with generic items was boring, but the act of getting to them was more fun. Same with any collectathon platformer, if the abilities were fun to acquire it, I'm happy. The puzzle of level design or puzzles in general were the fun part to me.
@Mintie This 100%
As soon as you basically need to follow a guide online to complete a trophy it’s a failure of design in my view.
