Nintendo’s controversial decision to raise the price of Mario Kart World to $80 has caused trepidation among gamers – especially as Microsoft wasn’t too far behind.
Thus far, Sony hasn’t announced any price increases to upcoming first-party games like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei – but that hasn’t stopped fans from pre-ordering their pricey Digital Deluxe Editions anyway. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time.
Writing directly to Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford on X (or Twitter), one fan pleased with the executive not to charge $80 for the upcoming Borderlands 4. This follows consternation within publisher 2K Games and parent company Take-Two about whether it will increase prices or not.
“Not my call,” he said, before controversially adding: “If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.”
Pitchford went on to tell a story about how he acquired Starflight for the SEGA Genesis by flogging ice cream on Pismo Beach. Obviously, this won’t be the last comparison someone makes to the pricey cartridges of the 90s.
Needless to say, Pitchford’s comments have landed him in hot water with most consumers, with no shortage of fans piling into his replies to tell him what they think.
