@Ralizah Yes, you are clearly what is wrong with the industry. How dare you buy something you will enjoy when you can just be on an Internet comment section complaining about it instead. Shame on you.
If you stopped buying Atlus games it would magically solve everything. These voice actors would de-age, Atus would recast them and and you would have permission to enjoy entertainment products once again.
Solidarity brothers and sisters. Our evil Atlus overlords have oppressed for far too long. Hang tight. Viva la revolution.
Edit - For clarity i absolutely agree that anti-consumer practices should be called out. However, replacing the voice actor for a new product is not anti-consumer. It's a design choice.
@CVCubbington This is a good point. People seem to think games were flawless on release before this generation. So many great games are full of bugs there were never fixed.
I remember 10 years ago Capcom couldn't buy a win. They were being discussed in the same manner as Konami at that point. Resident Evil 7, and (perhaps more notably) Monster Hunter World, really changed their fortunes and it's been mostly hit after hit.
As a long time MH fan it pleases (and surprises) me no end that it's such a huge franchise now.
I wonder what the reason for change was? After producing several stinkers to turn it around like they have is amazing. There must have been a huge shift in internal quality assurance at some point.
This is a bit of a simplified way of looking at it. Sony is making its money off of pre-established big hitters. That will continue to happen regardless of what they do.
There is no way these live service failures haven't stung them a bit, hence the reason they have cancelled so many of them. I predict another single player game pivot, with the occasional live service game sprinkled in.
@Fiendish-Beaver I visited Japan for the first time last year and it was life-changing. I'm quite well travelled and it firmly put Rome as my second favourite location (also incredible). Japan is so unique in every way that it really is worth visiting.
I thought it would be a once a lifetime trip but I am already making plans to go again in a few years.
That's the third article in a row on the front page about a gacha launch. They really are in vogue at the minute. Reminds me of when every other game coming out was a Battle Royale (I'm old enough to remember the MOBA craze as well).
I'm interested in playing one of these gatcha games (FFXIV is getting a bit boring) but I have no idea which one to try/ where to start. It's all very overwhelming for a new player.
@DennisReynolds I pointed this out further up in the comments. These people don't want to hear logic. They just want to hate. It takes all of 20 seconds to look at the user reviews and see they are in bad faith.
Of course it is. Some people make this kind of petty sh*t their whole persona. We are all born ignorant but one must work hard to remain stupid.
Id like to believe that there are some legitimate criticisms here (I haven't watched it myself), but the current state of cultural discourse doesn't leave me very hopeful.
Id be willing to bet the overlap between the people that preorder a digital game, and those that will get the more expensive version is not insignificant. They are still a minority.
Most people will buy at/ after launch for the standard price or wait for a sale.
Short sighted, numbers must go up mentality. At this rate they are just going to price people out of the hobby. I just bought Clair Obscure to support the studio releasing a great game for a reasonable price.
I cancelled my Nintendo Switch 2 preorder recently. Mario Kart World and nicer versions of the Zelda games are not worth the best part of £500.
I've always been an early adaptor of hardware but those days are ending I feel. Not enough value there to justify the cost. Most of my games are bought on a deep sale now. My backlog would last me the next decade anyway....
@GirlVersusGame That's the most impressive thing I've seen on this site. So much more impressive than finishing Dark Souls with a dance mat attached to a banana or whatever.
A dive into this project should be your next article @get2sammyb
@themightyant 100%. Once you get over the FOMO hump for one or two games it gets so much easier. This will be a much better experience in a few months.
It's really not that surprising. The minute Microsoft entered the Sony ecosystem it became their biggest install base. All they are interested in now is shifting copies of their games, regardless of which platform that happens to be on.
I much prefer this system anyway. Working towards a set goal for a reward will feel infinitely better than being rank 10,001st and missing out. I doubt I would have got anywhere near that ranking anyway.
This game is very very good. Something has just clicked for me and opened up many new possibilities. I love those eureka moments.
My number one tip for this game is to focus on drafting rooms you have not seen before. That should be your priority even it it means an end to your current run. New rooms are where all the story and hints are.
Also play with a notebook - you will definitely need it.
Well deserved. Easily my Game of the Year. I really hope they see this as a tentpole franchise moving forward and we get a sequel in the not so distant future.
@UltimateOtaku91 It's actually a very reasonable price for what we are getting. People seem to forget this is a handheld and should be compared to products such as the Steamdeck rather than the PS5.
The issue I have is them leapfrogging the £70 price tag which Sony established (which we should mention if we want to talk about hubris). If they raised their game prices to be in line with this generation it would be fine. Anymore than that feels a bit cheeky. Luckily I'm in the UK and retailers are already selling these games for below MRSP.
I have a Switch 2 preordered with Amazon but I'm toying with the idea of cancelling it. At the moment I only really want it to play the upgraded versions of BOTW and TOTK. Is it worth it just for that...?
I very rarely buy at launch these days (with the exception of Monster Hunter). I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan and am still waiting for a bigger discount on Rebirth. £30 - £35 is about my sweet spot.
There are so many games and so little time to play them that if you manage to get over the initial hype FOMO of new releases, waiting really isn't that difficult.
@DonJorginho That isn't my experience at all. I own both and much prefer the Portal for streaming. The shape is more ergonomic, the haptics are much better and the screen is bigger. Also, the interface is cleaner and snappier than using Chiaki4Deck.
The OLED steam deck also has this really annoying bug where the streaming quality will drop 10 minutes into playing and you need to reconnect to get it working OK again. They need to sort that.
Don't get me wrong, I love both devices, but after getting a portal I'm finding it hard to go back to streaming on the deck.
Woke nonsense means the game will never sell. Go woke and go broke. They are lying to us about sales numbers. That's players not sales! The microtransactions are egregious. It's not selling well enough to save the company.
Where will the grifters go next? We should start a bingo card. Can you imagine the amount of holes in their pitch considering the number of times the goalposts have been moved. It must look like Swiss cheese by now.
The game has clearly done well. Whether it has done well enough remains to be seen. I hope so as I feel like rooting for a the failure of a company that produces many decent games, and employs lots of people in the industry, is utter insanity. It's like these people want the market to retract.
It's certainly coming. I'm very excited about it as I find Oblivion just too dated to go back to now.
The real question is will it release simultaneously on all consoles? I think we are very close to Xbox Studios games releasing on Playstation at launch. Mad times we are living in.
@PloverNutter What is even weirder is that it has been that way for several games going back to 3 Ultimate (that's when i started). Item Box at the exit of each area. Very strange decision.
@themightyant I haven't thought about Edge in years. Thanks for this, I've just checked there website and there is an offer for the first 3 issues at £1. Snapped that up.
@graymamba You can't win. I work with a guy on the right-wing grift train and he has been proved wrong on so many occasions that his current defense is 'if I dont see it with my own eyes then I don't believe it'.
I feel sorry for the strain these poor people must have on their backs considering how many goal posts they move on a daily basis.
Good on Ubisoft for getting this win. The game looks great and if I didn't have so much in my backlog I'd pick it up. I'm sure I will at some point.
@Lowdefal Perhaps I should have specified further. I meant a crash in AAA gaming. Although a retraction may be more accurate. Either way the suits making the decisions need to wake up.
The industry is straight up broken when a game can sell 4-5 million copies and be perceived as a flop. There is a huge amount of developers/ publishers that would love these numbers. Stop inflating budgets/ expectations or we are headed for a crash. It's unsustainable.

@gamer153 Why don't you just wait 6 - 12 months after a release to play it? It's cheaper and a better experience at that point.

@Dragon83 My understanding is that a physical edition is coming later with it being digital only at launch.
The majority of retailers that have it listed (in the UK) still have placeholder or TBA release dates.

It's really simple to discern between genuine criticism and review bombing if you bother to look.
