Naughty Dog has uploaded a new retrospective video to celebrate the developer's 40 anniversary that's been packed full of developer interviews and clips from its classic and modern games.
From studio head Neil Druckmann and studio manager Alison Mori to co-head of art Erick Pangilinan, the video charts the studio's biggest titles of the past four decades, and has those who worked on them share their thoughts 40 years later. The Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us franchises all feature prominently, along with a small tease of Intergalactic at the end.
Formed in 1984, the California developer made its start as JAM Software, and made titles like Math Jam and Ski Crazed for the Apple II computer. It became Naughty Dog in 1989, and truly made a name for itself seven years later with the Crash Bandicoot series. Four decades later, it's one of the leading teams within PlayStation Studios.

40 years of incredible games and honing their chops with each release even until this day. Thats why i have no doubt Intergalactic is gonna be amazing
And they have been releasing The Last of Us remasters for 39 of them.
@Jey887 get over it. nobody holds a gun to your head and makes you buy the remasters. They are 100% optional. Just disregard if you don't like it
@Jey887 one day y'all will find a new thing to complain about, do you have the same energy with Skyrim?
30 years of incredible games, 10 years of whatever it is they've been doing since Amy Hennig left.
@IntrepidWombat I know right Amy Hennig has released some absolute crackers in the last 10 years
@Oram77 I can't understand the discourse with the remasters argument. People make like a gun is held to their heads and they are forced to buy them. And I can't stand all the hate ND gets. That's prob what fueled his comment in the 1st place, cause both items are a fools errand to even give an ounce of mindshare. Our grandkids, grandkids prob gonna still be sour about Joel's death hahaha
@IntrepidWombat and what has Hennig put out since she left ND? hahaha

Best in the bizz ❤️🔥❤️
Huge milestone and an incredible legacy. Cannot wait to see what Intergalactic is all about.
@StitchJones Nothing worth mentioning! What a waste.
GG ND!!! Also, comments section going as expected… 🤷🏾
@Oram77 @StitchJones Some people just don't understand that the smaller remaster/remake projects help fund the bigger, newer games. The rank-and-file devs need something to do when new games are in preproduction!
@wildcat_kickz also, and this came up yesterday in the remasters article and I referenced Demon Souls for ps5. Demons souls came out 16yrs ago. People who were just born then are 16 now and more then likely gamers. So you think they want to play the ps3 dated DS, or the remake? DS remake was a fantastic launch game
Probably one of the top 3 developers around, always know you're getting a quality AAA experience with these guys.
Sometimes when companies have names that sound like it was thought up in 2 seconds they become some of the greatest. Naughty Dog, Rockstar, FromSoftware. Cheers to ND! A modern Jak & Daxter would be great!
Naughty Gods! One of the most amazing developers. Really looking forwards to what future games they release.
Great games, trash trophy lists for the majority. Multiplayer trophies, forced multi-playthrough trophies, tedious collect-a-thon trophies…all are a cancer to trophy hunters. On the upside, I met many players in LFG posts to slog through the garbage uncharted multiplayer dlc’s and these people are still on my friends list. A reliable, like minded group of people to play with is a valuable asset so I suppose I should thank whoever designed ND’s trademark atrocious filth trophy lists.
Not a fan of TLOU2 and not optimistic about their future, but historically they were easily one of the best developers in all of gaming.
@Balaam_ Agreed with this. The first 3 Uncharted games are fun enough, but despite TLOU being my favourite game ever I have no interest in going for the Platinum. Being required to beat the game on the hardest difficulty is fair, being made to do it twice is silly. Also not a fan of collectible trophies (though this is hardly a ND exclusive issue), and trophies where you have to speed run the game.

@ThroughTheIris56 agreed. I think part 2 was the start of their descent. Druckmann drank a little too much of the koolaid.
Happy 40th anniversary for ND. Here's for another 40. Cheers 🍻
Incredible studio, and amazing to have grown up with their increasingly mature games. Still holding on Jak 4, I know it’ll never happen but a boy can dream. Also, am I going mad or did they blur out a pride flag in the video?
Congratulations ND, now how about a return to Keef the Thief.
Congrats naughty dog but I feel your crown of best Sony developer is under threat by insomniac, sucker punch etc in the last ten years.
No mention of Rings of Power, their actual first console game? I guess they're trying to memory hole that for a certain reason...

40 years later they’re gonna celebrate the last game they made 40 years ago
@Jey887 i mean i would say skyrim or even gta 5 has been milked more , gta 5 was on ps3/ps4 and ps5.
Can’t wait for Intergalactic

They were a great developer up until 2020.
The most overrated studio out. Jak 2 and TLOU2 are two of the worst games i have ever played.
@Lavishturtle ye I agree one of the best developers ever until that date they hadn't made anything since the last of us 2 was amazing despite the strange story but where are the games?
Seems I touched a nerve with my joke. I love The Last of Us and have purchased all the remasters. Guess I should have put a winking emoji or /jk at the end of my comment.
ND are one of you favourite developers and I can't wait for Intergalactic.
Good thing Sony didn't force them into live service
Lovely video, lots of happy memories. Thanks to all at the Dogpound.
Here's to the next 40 years.
@IntrepidWombat Amy Hennig current project: from targeting 2026 to delayed to unannounced date
https://www.gematsu.com/2025/11/marvel-1943-rise-of-hydra-delayed-to-unannounced-date
Amy left ND for almost a decade and since then she only did two thing: written Battlefield Hardline story, Forspoken story concept, and in limbo with Marvel 1943.
Meanwhile ND released Uncharted 4, Uncharted Lost Legacy, TloU Part 2, TloU Part 1 remake, and soon Intergalactic without her.
I have respect to Amy but some people overestimate her importance since ND is doing just fine without her.
@PuppetMaster Your approach is backwards. You didn't account for what she did while she was at ND, which is more important to my point than what she did when she left. Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 (didn't play Lost Legacy) definitely missed her. Both were narratively weaker than their predecessors. They were drawn out, technically sound but meandering messes. Druckmann couldn't write a well-paced story to save his life. ND is fine from a financial standpoint, but Druckmann likes smell of his own farts too much to write a solid narrative.
The responses to this comment thread remind me of the "leave the multi-million dollar company alone!" meme. I think Hennig is a better writer than Druckmann and has done more and superior work than he has over the course of their respective careers. I didn't think that was a controversial take.
@IntrepidWombat "Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 (didn't play Lost Legacy) definitely missed her"
FYI, Amy Hennig never work nor have any contributions at all for TloU series. And Uncharted 4 was much better than Uncharted 3 not just from sales but also everything.
"The responses to this comment thread remind me of the "leave the multi-million dollar company alone!" meme"
I only stated facts that ND is doing fine both financially and creatively without Amy Hennig. Even before she joined ND, the studio already done really well with Crash and J&D series.
But i guess you can't accept the fact that your beloved Amy Hennig isn't as important as you think 🤷♂️
"I think Hennig is a better writer than Druckmann and has done more and superior work than he has over the course of their respective careers"
Sure. So where are these "superior works" from Amy Hennig in the last decade since she left ND? 🤣
@IntrepidWombat i get your point but she never worked on last of us , not even in a supporting role , she only worked on uncharted.
