Re: Capcom's Already the Year's Best PS5 Publisher, and It's Only April

My favourite publisher by far. Japan in general is doing so much of the heavy lifting when it comes to gaming at the minute. It's quite funny considering 10 years ago the general consensus seems to be the opposite, and that western developers were keeping the industry afloat.

A lot of Japanese companies have hit that sweet spot between scale/ budget and a decent cadence of releases. Hopefully western devs will learn from it and sort their sh*t.

Re: Here's Why Starfield Will Be Best on PS5 When It Finally Releases Next Week

Regardless of what people will try and tell you - This is neither the worst game ever made, nor the best. I played and finished it at launch and thought it was a 7/10. This was before the 60fps patch and lots of other updates mind.

I look forward to picking up the inevitable gold edition at half price in about 2 years time. I hope everyone that picks it up enjoys it.

Oh wow this is very surprising. I thought Rec Room was pretty popular. My son plays it quite often on his Oculus.

It seems no live service is safe in 2026. The industry is making a huge course correction at the minute. With any luck it will be to focus on smaller, tighter games with lower development budgets and lesser development time.

@Yor-sama Dragon Quest remake 1, 2 and 3. Octopath Traveler 1, 2 and 0. Final Fantasy XVI, 7 Remake and Rebirth, 14, Tactics Ivalice Chronicles, Neo: The World Ends with You, Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, Live A Live.

All of these released in the last 6 years and most are critically acclaimed. Stop confusing the fact that you don't like the direction they are going in with failure. They have been on a roll for several years now. They were the highest rated publisher on Metacritic last year:

Re: It Never Ends: Eidos Montreal Confirms Mass Layoffs Including Veteran Studio Head

@LogicStrikesAgain You are totally right. I've spent the last two days playing through the Resident Evil 1 Remake and it's an absolute masterpiece. I've had so much more fun with it than any of the open world games I've played in the last 5 years.

Publishers and developers have needed to reduce scope creep for years at this point. Games need 3 year development cycles and smaller teams making them. It's the only direction for sustainability. It will also mean less focus on graphics (which provide hugely diminishing returns in 2026) and more on gameplay systems/ creativity.

I feel absolutely gutted for the developers being laid off but this pain seems to be the only way for the industry to course correct. The d*ckheads in suits need to make all the right decisions moving forwards or the writing is on the wall.

Re: Feature: PS5 Price - Why Does It Cost So Much in 2026?

HerlockSholmes

@Member_the_game Nice, I don't think you will regret it. The Pro feels powerful and it's still a fraction of the cost of current PC prices.

These price increases really suck. Something will have to give at some point. Everything is costing more and people have less money to spend. The tipping point feels like an inevitably. It's going to be fascinating to see how to see how companies respond when the pendulum swings away from the status quo of increased sales.

Re: Roblox Is Being Played More Than PlayStation and Steam Combined

I really don't care. I appreciate it is important to the gaming landscape as a whole but this isn't the reason I visit this site.

It seems the articles on upcoming games and reflective pieces on games gone by are becoming a rarity. I could be wrong here (I haven't actually counted), it just seems like it. Clearly I'm in the minority as all of these articles seem to have a lot of engagement. The constant doom posting is the reason I stopped visiting Reddit and I'm visiting this site less and less (something I really don't want to do - I've been coming here for over a decade)

I'm not naive, I fully respect that this is all important stuff and is shaping the future of the game industry. However, I choose to engage in this hobby as a means of fun and escapism and it just seems like disengagement of media sites (and the internet at large) is the only way to stop myself becoming disillusioned.

I understand this is a me problem and this is more of a rant than anything. I'm just as upset as anyone about the closure of Bluepoint, and some of the wider decisions made by large gaming corps, but I'm exhausted by the constant barrage of negativity around something I choose to do for fun. I'm not sure what my point is nor why I've chosen this article to make it - Just a bit fed up I guess.
