Re: UK Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 16 Sales Way Down, Out of the Top 10

@DennisReynolds I’m going to go out on a limb and say you haven’t played much FF. Every entry has tweaked things and been different since 1. Even 1-6 are all different in ways. With the intro of ATB you lost the turn based argument long ago. True turn based let’s me sit there and nothing ever happens until I move. Heck even 7 was divisive on reception. I know I’m old enough to have been there. People love it now but it was not always that way. 8 too changed up the way we approach everything after that.

Of course 16 has Eikons, Crystals, Fantasy setting, chocobos and more. How pray tell is it not FF? Heck, it even has several nods to IV if you know that game well enough.

Your entitled to that thought, but I tend to hear that though only from those who haven’t played it much or at all.

Feels like it’s popular to crap on FF16 everywhere I go. Honestly, 30 hours in, over 60% of it done and having done all side quests, I would say it’s an incredible game. Some of the side quests are dull, sure, but they fit Clive’s character and his desire to help people. It’s easily one of the best FF games in a long time. And has a lot of throwbacks to IV, which I really enjoy.

Well after many weeks of the same games, I think I’m almost near the end of some.

70 hours in TOTK I’m headed to the castle

35 hours in Diablo IV I am in the midst of ACT 5

25 hours into FF16 and I have no idea where I am, needless to say there is a score about to be settled

Beyond that looking to finally check out some other stuff, maybe downloading Gal Guardians Demon Purge. Who knows!

Re: Japanese Final Fantasy 16 Sales Plummet by 90% in Second Week

ErrantRob

Having played almost every FF game, it’s Final Fantasy to the core. They change aspects of every game and no two FF games are identical. Problem really is Japan has moved on from console beyond Switch.

As for me, this is easily becoming one of the top 3 FF games for me. Sure the side quests aren’t great, but there are a few so far that I genuinely found fascinating (I won’t spoil it but the boy and the wolf one told an interesting tale). And the combat is incredible; not all FF games are turn based not need to be (ATB is arguably not turn based as you just can’t sit there and expect to not die).

Re: NHL 23 (PS5) – The Same as Last Year, with Small Changes

@tomassi there are some nice additions, some gameplay tweaks for example. Graphically it’s clearly better, however, I felt like I picked up right where I left off a decade ago with some of the gameplay. I suppose that’s any sport really. For me, I had my fun with it and I think picking it up every 5-7 years makes it worth it, but I can see why yearly it would be a total waste.

Trying to balance finishing Jedi Survivor while I add to my 32 hours in Tears of the Kingdom.

Also they got me. I’m headed out of town next week so I got D4 early access so I could enjoy it some before I travel. Already made it to level 12 despite my two children lol.

That’s about it for me!

Re: Sony Will Have More PS5 Presentations This Year, Sources Say

ErrantRob

I think they purposely held back on this latest one. Why? Because Microsoft is the one with something to prove in its showcase. If they have those rumoured two incredible games, then Sony can respond in kind. That coupled with the dire Factions news seems to suggest Sony is not wanting to get burned from the start or to play it’s hand too early.

@SurgicalMenace Midnight Suns is great for remote play. I do wish there was a tad bit less interactions since the combat is so enjoyable! And enjoy Signalis. I got through the first three chapters if I were to label them as such before realizing I’d need a guide to feel like I’m doing the game justice!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 477

@Sanquine funny you say that. I’m on my 4th time with BOTW and it’s finally clicking for me too. I think I won’t finish it and just move to TOTK instead, but at least I kinda get it. Still think the world is too barren and the weapon durability can be tedious, but otherwise it’s charming.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 477

ErrantRob

Having finished Severed Steel, Grid Legends’ story mode and the wonderful Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells I’m at a loss what to play.

Definitely Signalis for the weekend.

Probably also more Dead Cells, and either work through more Midnight Suns or purchase Jedi Survivor.

I’m in a very scattered gaming mood lately.

Oh and even though I hated BOTW I’m willing to TOTK a chance.

Re: Random: Final Fantasy 14's Yoshi-P Couldn't Stop Playing Zelda During PS5, PS4 MMO's Test Stream

ErrantRob

@Loamy I too was really disappointed with BOTW. I don’t know why but I went back to it every year for four years to try and see what I was missing. I just did it again this week so I could see if TOTK would be worth purchasing. I really want to get it and have it click the way it does for so many other people.

I’m not sure what it is, but last night when I tried I couldn’t set it down. I still think it’s too barren for my tastes, but if you chase what little narrative there is, for me, I finally got something out of it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 474

For me RE4 Remake. Chapter 12 of 16. I can taste the end at this point.

Then wrap up Burning shores. I’m on the penultimate quest and realizing it’s not Aloy that gets me through these games, but rather the gameplay. It feels so good to try and pick apart the machines.

Lastly, I swear I’m going to get through Midnight Suns more and hopefully finally experience for the first time FF1-6. I’ve played 7-9 and some of 13, but I’ve got some gaps to fill in before 16 just because I love the series.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 473

ErrantRob

Burning shores for sure, while still working my way through RE4.

I’m still itching to get the FF Pixel Remasters because I’ve never played 1-6. However, I fear with kids I won’t have enough time to do them all. So the debate is a la carte a few or buy the whole lot to never finish.

Beyond those I really want to replay pieces some games I’ve already beat this year.

So much gaming so little time!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 472

ErrantRob

Knee deep in RE4. I’ve decided RE4 is more fun, but Dead Space nails that survival horror atmosphere like no one else.

Beyond that Marvel’s Midnight Suns in small bursts. The gameplay is amazing but the amount of dialogue has me contemplating skipping through the story.

Beyond that I’m itching for some OCTOPATH Traveler 2 but with Burning Shores coming up I don’t see it happening.

Re: Poll: How Was Final Fantasy 16's State of Play Showcase?

ErrantRob

@TJ81 I agree on the immersive HUD. I want to say that Ragnarok had that option (it would only appear upon touching the touchpad or during certain occurrences in combat if I recall). I loved it in whatever it was that had it. I could look at it when needed and then let it be otherwise.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Is Flying Up Sales Charts After Stellar State of Play Show

ErrantRob

I never preorder games anymore until maybe the day or two before so it can digitally pre-download and be ready on release day, but this might be an exception. Coupled with the knowledge that it has been finished since last year and they spent the last 8-10 months simply working on polish tells me it cannot be less than stellar (it would be a massive miss for FF at this point, and I do not think SE would risk that with their most important franchise at this point).

That being said, I will still probably wait until the start of June to preorder just in case anything bizarre occurs.
