Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 513

@CJD87 sorry for the late reply! It’s definitely Dark Souls 4, the design and atmosphere are awesome. It does suffer from enemy variety and combat takes a moment to click. However, as long as you’re not chasing the platinum I think it’s a solid 8/10 for those who enjoy all types of Souls games. Like Lies of P it shines if you don’t compare it to what has come before.

@CJD87 Last Faith was fantastic. I’m wrapping Lords of the Fallen myself and have Grime next on my dashboard. LOTF gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Just don’t treat it like a clone of Dark Souls. It is its own game and I loved my time with it. Debating a second run in NG+0 just to crush through got some side quests I missed.

Re: Madcap Action Game Wanted: Dead Gets an Update Almost One Year After Release

@RudeAnimat0r @JB_Whiting It's a shame to see y'all did not enjoy it. I know it was a turn off for a lot of people. And I agree it's definitely jank of the PS2 era, but once I figured out what it was wanting me to do and how to make combat flow, I had a blast. I think the Youtuber Electric Underground did a nice take on why it did not click for most people (including him) until he approached it differently than we do most mainstream games now.

Oddly enough I have been waiting for this update for a year, because I knew it was coming, and knew the one trophy was questionably impossible to obtain, so I may dive back in!

Re: Foamstars Releases 6th February as a PS Plus Essential Game

@Athrum I'd agree with your assessment. Unless Liam knows something we do not, I also think this listing probably spells out the same information. I expect to be enjoying Stellar Blade by summer, and if rumoured State of Play expectations are true, I expect the announcement to be there this month (or early February).

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2024?

@riceNpea I think hardcore is the people like us who visit the site. All my friends and family who play PlayStation I would not call hardcore. They either play 1st party games with F2P mixed in or just F2P mostly. Most of the teens I know who game are the same. I’d say 1 in 7 are hardcore. So the tiers would be a great value for them, but not us. Anecdotally look at the top ten selling games every month and you’ll see anything but hardcore.

@DrVenture69 lies of P is brilliant if you don’t mind mastering parry and dodge mechanics. LOTF is also great and feels like the Dark Souls 4 game everyone wanted, despite a few issues here and there. Just wanted to say Lies of P is more polished, but the other is more akin to what Souls fans crave.

Anything not on my PS Plus account. Let it lapse for the first time in 12 years. I just can’t agree to the new pricing.

So instead it’ll be Baldur’s Gate 3, Last Faith and Lords of the Fallen. The first and last I’ve got 40 hours in and Last Faith is a nice trip down Castlevania lane.

Re: Game of the Year: #7 - Lies of P

@Tchunga I get that burnt out feeing. I think Lies of P is still a must. 40 hours into LOTF all I can is it’s Dark Souls 4, which, if burnt out, may be one to avoid for awhile.

Re: Game of the Year: #7 - Lies of P

@Kraven those could be my exact words too. I rarely replay a game immediately or if I do I fall off it. This one I played twice through and started a third before falling off (got the platinum in two runs which may have factored in).

Re: Alan Wake 2 Pencils In New Ending, Nightmare Difficulty for Monday's New Game Plus Update

ErrantRob

@LordAinsley After reading Remedy's official page on it, I think you can play the game again in any mode in NG+ for the additional story beats. I, like you, enjoyed the pace of the game for what it was and have no interest in dying repeatedly to test my skills. I'll save that for Lords of the Fallen. So if that is of any interest to you, I will be keeping a lower difficulty to enjoy the new content.

@Loamy that helps tremendously! I’m not a stranger to games people label “bad”. One of my favorites this year was Wanted Dead, which asked you to play a particular way to enjoy it. I loved it. So knowing those issues definitely helps me gear myself toward making a purchase on sale for it. I love the premise too, and can forgive a lot of aspects when a studio wants to punch above it’s weight.
