From what I've seen from reviews, the biggest problem this game has is there isn't a central character in the game. Which is an absolutely baffling decision to make for an ambitious game like this. I hopped on the hype train with the idea that a central protagonist would be kick off the recruiting and they would be who the story revolves around. But as is, it's not surprising that a bunch of people say the narrative seems like a mess (Coming from someone who hasn't actually played the game haha).
@LTPenguin I don't think there's problems. CDR are notorious perfectionists with their game releases. I don't remember if delays were as much of a thing but there was a ton of tweaking with The Witcher III, they just care about putting out high quality games.
Forget movies, this is the right way to go with video game series. Especially with a game drenched in lore like Assassin's Creed. If they do this right, I can even see them placing every season in a different time period.
@thefourfoldroot Meh level scaling's not en-TIRELY pointless... Well, depends on the game. But level progression is mostly about your character getting stronger; so enemies getting stronger doesn't take away from that if done properly.
For example, in Pokemon, when they level up, they learn new more powerful attacks and evolve. So the enemies scaling (which they don't but I digress) wouldn't matter because it's fun having your mons rise to the challenge. But if it's like a Bloodborne and all leveling allows you to do is raise stats, THEN I can see it being an issue if done poorly.
@roe I mean, but @lacerz has a point. It's not necessarily "troubling" per say, because I feel like if you've been paying attention, it's clear that the Series S is basically just the Xbox One S that can play next-gen games. But to people who don't pay attention, the average consumer, it does seem like they're the short end of the deal.
My conspiracy theory: I feel like the strategy is not to rock the boat right now (because immediately making Bethesda Xbox exclusive will cause gamer riots) but to slowly make them Xbox exclusive over time.
@Steve30000 The manager who was working at the gamestop at the time pretty much gave me a knowing look and said, "No Man's Sky? Yeeeeah, we'll take it back". Not sure if it was because a bunch of people had complaints about it or if the guy was just a decent guy but I returned it... Can't remember if I got a refund or swapped it for something else.
It's like that dog that is just so darn ugly but you love it anyway. I'm either going to try to keep it standing up or have it facing me like the second pic. The second pic looks the most acceptable.
@Zuljaras I mean, people said the same thing about black people around the time Birth of a Nation came out. You don't have to see the movie to have an opinion on how they depicted a black man in the movie.
I brought it up to make the point that this is something that always happens with disenfranchised groups. There always comes a point where, during a struggle for their rights, representation is crucial to their livelihoods. So when you have someone come out and villanize the group, via Birth of a Nation or Rowling's new book, then it sets the movement back because it has the potential to influence people who don't know better. Black people don't inherently want to attack white women, trans people don't want to assault people in bathrooms. Honestly, if people wanted to assault people in bathrooms, they would just do it. Makes no sense that they would need to transition first.
PS. Plenty of LGBTQ advocates agree the Olympics thing needs to be discussed. No idea why you think that's a gotcha. So no, that specific point doesn't make you a transphobe. Everything else does. I think the current consensus is maybe they should be under hormone blockers for a certain number of years before they can compete because the hormone blockers tends to shred their muscles and body frame until they're essentially the same as a cis woman.
@Zuljaras So how do you feel about the film, "The Birth of a Nation" from 1915, where the main plot (or a large subplot, can't remember) involved a black man (played by a white man in blackface) kidnapping a white woman and proceeding to try to assault her?
@JRRR92 My definition is literally what's provided by academia and scientific consensus, not popular opinion. I just did a WHOLE thing describing the science of it and you're rejecting it as "science is more important than people's feelings". Ha, ok dude <-<
@JRRR92 Repeating it here since you've been repeating what you said from the other article and in case it's useful for people who missed it in the first article: "Gender is an amalgamation of several elements: chromosomes (those X’s and Y’s), anatomy (internal sex organs and external genitals), hormones (relative levels of testosterone and estrogen), psychology (self-defined gender identity), and culture (socially defined gender behaviors)".
Even with chromosomes, did you know that the masculine traits come from a gene on the Y chromosome and NOT the Y chromosome itself? And sometimes the gene isn't present so even a person with a Y Chromosome STILL has female phenotypes? Which is primarily why in some cultures/countries there's a third gender where a child is born without female phenotypes but develops male looking traits as a preteen that doesn't actually produce anything. People like you who claim "science is science" cracks me up because you all CLEARLY got your basic information from high school biology and run with it for the rest of your lives without ever trying to understand the nuance. Science is messy, nothing in life is ever clearly delineated as, "Things are this, and that's that". We're taught the chromosomes as a foundation but you need to build on that foundation.

@nessisonett @Zuljaras "Media doesn't exist in a vacuum" Exactly. Purchasing the game more or less means putting money in her pocket. And that's not always the worst thing in the world in some cases because you'd be hard-pressed to find a celebrity who wasn't terrible or had dirty laundry of some sort, but when the issue comes from the fact that the person has a TON of influence and how they're using that influence, then comes the question of if you continue supporting that influence.
Here's the thing, that game looks amazing; I honestly can't blame people who want to buy it because it looks like a TON of hard work went into it and it sucks for the developers that this controversy hit the fan shortly before they were ready to announce it. But for me, out of principle, I've just stopped consuming anything related to Rowling. Not to mention, I have a couple of trans friends who come over relatively often. If the developers do give a middle finger in the game somehow like some commenters have suggested. I'll consider getting it because then there's a reason why I'd make the purchase when it conflicts with my values. But what am I supposed to do if I try to ignore the fact that I have trans people I care about? Hide the game like it's a dirty secret? I'd rather just not do it... Shoot, even if I didn't have people I cared about it wouldnt sit well with me.
Man I'm annoyed because I was so ready to just cackle to myself as I saved money buying the PS4 version of Miles Morales... But it's been a while since I've platinum'ed the first game, I wouldn't mind another foray if it means three suits and updated visuals. AND I don't have the PS4 pro so the PS5 means all-around upgrades for me.
I have half the games in the collection, but definitely looking forward to the second half... And looking forward to selling half of the games I already own to gamestop =p
Sony's full of crazy people offering PS4 games with a free PS5 update at $50. There's GOT to be a catch... But if not, I won't look a gift spider in the mouth. I'm ready for Miles!
@NEStalgia I can't tell if you're joking or not, but I'll legitimately be upset if it doesn't have a handle 😂 It makes it SO much easier to transport my PS4 around with no worries.
@SilenceCZ Haha absolutely no judgment, I can sooooort of understand it. As a kid, reading and looking at every inch of the box and/or the manuals built the anticipation for the games on the drive home.
For Christmas, I wanted We're Back: A Dinosaur Story for the Genesis because I rented it all the time from Blockbuster. Buuuut I didn't know what it was called so I just asked for "a dinosaur game" and hoped my parents knew what I was talking about. Christmas came and instead, I got a Playstation with The Lost World of Jurassic Park and I never looked back.
From what I've played, CD Projekt Red works hard just to make a quality experience for gamers. Because of that, I was more than willing to buy the DLCs for Witcher and if it's not pushy, I might do the same for Cyberpunk.
@Matroska But I think it's precisely because of COVID (And 2020 in general) that people are getting antsy. This year has sucked, and the PS5 is this big fancy thing a ton of people are looking forward to. So there's questions of if it's even going to come out this year because of COVID, or how much we need to set aside because of the state of the economy and/or job status, or if people can even afford this thing that we're hyped for due to rumors that it'll be more expensive than we expect due to its parts. So the circumstances you described for the switch makes sense, but it also explains all the tension a ton of people are feeling.
@Stragen8 Funny cause I'm usually someone who waits a year or so until the "slim" version of the console comes out (Except with Nintendo). PS5 will be my first Day 1 purchase primarily because of Miles Morales
What I like to do with console releases is to put a certain amount of money towards the pre-order every paycheck so I'm not dropping a huge amount of money on it all at once. So I'm hoping they don't have the release date extremely close to the date announcement.
Did it on the Fortnite Joker article, but calling it now. The reveal is that a Batman game's coming out for the holidays, hence the Joker tie-in. Just seems super random to just go, "And we're bringing Joker to Fortnite in November for no reason!"
