Re: Final Fantasy 16 Producer Reckons One Gaming Platform Would Be Better for Everyone

Brydontk

... Noooooo. The evidence is in the PS3 and Xbox One eras. When gaming industries get a ton of money, the higher ups get cocky and put in less effort. If they consolidate, the money pools at the top. If we're going to live in a capitalist (let's be honest) world, then there needs to be healthy competition otherwise we get what's happening with Disney and Pokemon right now.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3's Bear Sex Just the Tip of the 'Horny' Iceberg, Apparently

Brydontk

@deathaxe @Phantasystar77

Fantastic metaphor. Yes, the act of Bestiality is disgusting, because its a sentient person taking advantage of a nonsentient living creature. But that's not what this is. It's difficult for a lot of people to wrap their heads around because it's nothing they'll ever happen in the real world, but still, try to move past the knee-jerk disgust response to explore the philosophy.

Another example: Say you're married to someone for a decade and by some magic, your spouse is transformed into a bear. Your spouse still has all of their memories, can still speak, it's still your spouse in every way shape or form, but they're now a bear and it's irreversible. Is it wrong to sleep with your spouse?

For me personally, I can only be attracted to a human, but I wouldn't think it THAT farfetched for someone to continue doing so based off of their emotional/romantic connection with their spouse as long as their spouse is still sentient.

@Fiendish-Beaver @KaijuKaiser Can't speak on the reviews but I'm going to guess that not a lot of gameplay has been shown because although this is a really big rpg, the CRPG genre is kind of niche as far as the general public is concerned. So watching grid-based strategic combat would run the risk of being more isolating than a draw. I mean, I like CRPG's and strategy games but the visuals that come with them are usually either confusing or unappealing to me unless my hands are on the controller and im immerged in the game.

Meanwhile, advertising the grand story, all the things you can do, the abilities, the classes, and yes, the sex scenes (sex sells, baby), are probably going to reach more people

Re: Fans Vote Clive the Second Best Final Fantasy Protagonist

Brydontk

Honestly well deserved. I honestly wonder how many people were sold on the game when they heard that, "I'll f**** kill you!" line delivery in the demo. Along with that scene in general, the pain in the actor's voice gave me goosebumps. Just that alone would sell me on the second place vote

Re: Don't Worry, Ubisoft Promises Star Wars Outlaws Won't Be a '300 Hour Epic Unfinishable RPG'

Brydontk

@Cordyceps Don't know what to tell you my dude. How streamlined the story is compared to the original wasn't what I was talking about at all but go off I guess?

I was referring to the fact that every area you play in is pretty efficient (You know, similar to the content of the article talking about how the game's not going to be an endless time sink). I don't have to worry that much about missing anything while it's still big enough for me to explore and experience the world/story it wants me to engage in.

Re: Don't Worry, Ubisoft Promises Star Wars Outlaws Won't Be a '300 Hour Epic Unfinishable RPG'

Brydontk

I'm currently playing through FFVII Remake and I know it was widely acclaimed but some criticisms I've seen have called it a "hallway simulator". But I'm really growing to appreciate how focused it is. I'm glad that the gaming industry as a whole seems to be exploring what it means to respect the gamer's time and that they're not trying to lean on "you can play our game forever!" anymore.

Re: Yet Another Live Service Game Is Shutting Down After Just One Year

Brydontk

The live-service gold rush was basically just trying to open a bunch of mines and hoping boatloads of gamers would come in droves to get to work making them money. They were all chasing that Fortnite coin; very similar to what's happening with streaming services trying to follow Netflix. Not going to lie, feeling a bit of schadenfreude watching this go down.

Re: PS Store Summer Sale Live Now, Get All the Best PS5, PS4 Deals Here

Brydontk

@StripedTomato Mmm kind of hard to say. The Pathless is pretty good, got it early into the PS5's life. It's gameplay is kind of arcade-y in the sense that there's very little that changes as you get through it but it's gorgeous to look at. Doesn't take long to platinum either, around 10 hours. So honestly, $15/£11.99 is around what it SHOULD cost.

Re: PS Store Summer Sale Live Now, Get All the Best PS5, PS4 Deals Here

Brydontk

Some really good deals, but also a continuation of an annoying trend someone pointed out where they seem really keen on only putting the deluxe edition of games on sale but not the standard or the DLC. I have Midnight Suns and the expansion pack for the 4 DLC characters costs basically a whole game ($50). They have all of the various deluxe editions on sale, but not the expansion pack. So it's almost like punishing me for getting the standard edition in the first place.

Re: Another 10 PS5, PS4 Games Leave PS Plus Extra, Premium in August

Brydontk

Ahhhh fartnuggets. First removal that affects me. I beat Yakuza 0 but took a break because I knew I'd want to play through all of them (and yakuza 0 is so addicting I played through everything), and now I need to drop what I'm doing to get through Kiwami (I have Kiwami 2, partially because of the ranked list pushsquare did a while ago)

Re: Jujutsu Kaisen's Finally Getting a PS5, PS4 Game, But It's a 2v2 Arena Fighter

Brydontk

Sorry guys, I think I jinxed it with my last comment 😂

Jokes aside, at this point I've just gotta assume it's easier to do these type of games and make money off of existing anime before they're irrelevant. For arena fighters, you create arenas based off of anime locations, copy/paste the story from said anime, re-write the dialogue from said anime, program the models and animations, map their moves to buttons on each model, write the rules for various fight modes, and then the player does the rest.

When you think of One Piece Odyssey, for example, in addition to all of this, it requires thinking of, writing for and programming multiple skills for level ups, enemy encounters, resistances and weaknesses, the open overworld, puzzles for the overworld, various RPG-style items, a brand new story, side quests, rewards and NPCs, a ton of cinematics to go with the new story, etc.

Re: "We've Lost the Console Wars," Says Trillion Dollar Underdog Xbox

Brydontk

@Fiendish-Beaver Yeeeeah this is true. It's annoying that Microsoft took as long to understand the game they were in as Sony did. We look at the film industry and how Disney/Marvel/Star Wars etc are lackluster now because they know they're too big to fail so they just do the bare minimum to turn a profit. Right now we're blessed with so much from Sony because they're still in the middle of curb-stomping Microsoft.

You're so right, Microsoft needs to get their act together. At the same time (still not disagreeing with you here, just adding to the convo), it feels like a waste of time if they're on this "woe is me" crusade due to their own bad business practices.

Re: "We've Lost the Console Wars," Says Trillion Dollar Underdog Xbox

Brydontk

This is silly. I certainly don't want Sony to be a monopoly (that's bad for everyone) but as the first comment said, Microsoft played themselves. After the 360 generation they were so sure that they dominated the field that they engaged in a ton of anti-player maneuvers which sent them onto the path they're on now. I would LOVE if they got their act together enough to keep things competitive, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't still feel a sense of schadenfreude from what they tried to pull.

Re: Sony Eager to Ensure PS Plus Remains Relevant and Offers More Value

Brydontk

They've been doing a great job with the new PS Plus tbh. Since having PS Plus Extra since it started, it's such a good value I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop; it's too good to be true right now 😂

Honestly expecting that once they hit the one year mark, that's when they start pulling the juggernauts from the service.

Re: SEGA Word Salad Attempts to Explain Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's Name

Brydontk

@Matroska Right? Honestly I prefer the numbers. I can easily google if I need info on previous entries to play the new one. Just doing the "Title: Subtitle" formula can be extremely confusing if you end up having a lengthy series. For example, with Star Wars, as a casual viewer I missed the last two that came out and without looking them up I get extremely confused about the chronology; and I know my friends who aren't into nerdy hobbies feel the same way. It can arguably become more of a barrier to entry than the numbers.

Just do the numbers. If a series looks interesting to me, I might be inclined to look back at the previous ones and gives me a better idea of where to start.

Re: SEGA Word Salad Attempts to Explain Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's Name

Brydontk

@Triumph741 Yes and no. Yakuza in Japan is called "Like a Dragon". So Yakuza 0-6 is actually Like a Dragon 0-6. But for Like a Dragon 7, they instead named it Yakuza: Like a Dragon and made it a turn-based RPG. This game is the sequel to the turn-based RPG and is coming out next year

Meanwhile Judgment, Lost Judgment and Like a Dragon Ishin came out which continues the action RPG gameplay from Yakuza. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is coming out in November with the Yakuza main character and original Yakuza brawler gameplay.

Are you taking notes? There will be a quiz later

Re: Mortal Kombat 1's PS5 Kombat Pack Kontents May Have Been Accidentally Outed

Brydontk

@Totheteeth While I can understand your frustration at crossover characters stealing the show (I do agree Rambo was a weird choice), all three of these characters would fit right into the world of Mortal Kombat. Especially Omni-Man and Homelander. Look up compilation scenes with either of these two on youtube and you would see that it's not that farfetched of an inclusion. Possibly Peacemaker too but I havent seen the show, just his role in The Suicide Squad.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Fans Are Only Just Finding Out About a Devastating Attack

Brydontk

@Sil_Am That was my plan too, but I'm genuinely curious how you'll feel once you reach the actual "Forbidden West" part. Because I was gungho about it until about 15 hours? Then there's a moment where the map pops up after you reach it, and the area is revealed to you, and it's supposed to be this moment of, "Oh my God! The adventure is just beginning! Look at all of these things I can explore!" And instead, it was just exhausting to me lol. But then again, a lot of people, even in this article alone, seem to enjoy it so it might not put off everyone.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Fans Are Only Just Finding Out About a Devastating Attack

Brydontk

@KundaliniRising333 Yeah agreed. I downloaded it when it came to Extra because I loved the first one. I don't know what changed whether it's because I got older or just the way gaming is now or the size of my backlog, but when it got to the part where the map opened up, I was like, "Nope" and turned it off. Seeing all those icons was just way too overwhelming and I could feel the timesink flash before my eyes.
