On the contrary. It makes perfect sense to initially test the game on people who are highly familiar with game's universe, rather than on games' journalists who don't know much about it. They obviously want to convince the hardcore Marvel fans about the game's authenticity in characters and world creation.
They handled everything poorly. Kudos to Epic for at least trying to balance things out.
Also, it doesn't matter how much you pledge, $30 or $300, it's the failed promise that matters: "give us your money and we'll give you x".
People who fund kickstarters take a considerably higher risk with their money than a regular gamer, and that risk should be rewarded. They should not be treated as regular gamers. With this move they more or less are. What the developers and publishers have done is to undermine the whole ethos of crowd-fudning. They should have said no to the Epic exclusivity, but greed is powerful.
It's boring either way, and neither interesting nor inspiring to look at. It doesn't get you excited for the game-world and the gameplay, it's just some generic man or woman holding a gun.
I don't care about it being a man on the cover, there's a tonne of great covers with "just a man" on the cover, like most of the Assassin's Creed games (Rogue, Black Flag, Origins ...), Uncharted, Halo, Deus Ex, ... and many, many more. It's all about making the artistic effort.
To be fair though, the only time I genuinly care about box art today is when I buy the limited edition versions, and not the regular plastic ones. For example, the Yakuza 6 limited edition version is beautifully designed.
"introducing the endlessly copied rewind system to the racing genre".
Codemasters did not introduce this system, that's a myth. There was at least one game on the PS2 (!) that had a rewind system, the game 'SCAR - Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo'. It allowed you to rewind a few seconds to avoid mistakes. Codemasters popularised the system, but did not actually introduce it.
I have never enjoyed Playstation's controller layouts, it's awkward how you have to place your thumbs. It feels much more natural and relaxed with the off-set, your thumb resting on the stick. I already use a Hori instead of the regular PS4 controller, but this looks nice as well.
As much as I don't like exclusives, I understand their need to exist in order to sell console units or in order to compete with Steam. The PS4 would not have sold so well without its strong selection of single-player focused AAA titles. So it's understandable they want to focus even more on this with the PS5, they need to keep the momentum up and be powerful at the PS5's launch.
I'm still in a serious simulation game mood this weekend, trying to cram in as much as possible of: Euro + American Truck Sim, Bus Simulator 18, Sailaway, Train Sim World, Ship Simulator Extremes, and Pure Farming 2018.
A few of them are available on the PS4 as well: Bus Simulator 18, Pure Farming and Train Sim World. Even though I play them on PC I use a regular controller for them, and they play really well using a controller.
Only simulation games this weekend: Hunting Simulator and The Hunter (Call of the Wild) on the ps4. Then some Train Sim World, American (Washington dlc) + Euro Truck Simulator, and Sailaway on the PC. The last one, Sailaway, is a sailing simulator. It's almost like Microsoft Flight Simulator X in that you pick a spot in a huge world-map, and then just go there and sail away. It offers ship racing as well, but I'm still learning the game and sandbox is ideal for that.
If this was any other racing game developer other than Codemasters I bet you would have rated it 3/10 or 5/10 [Post-edit: didn't mean for that to come off as rude as this. What I mean is, PushSquare has rated racing games with the same problem a 3/10 and 5/10 before (most notably MXGP and MotoGP). So I take note that F1 2019 still gets a 7/10 for having the same issue. And it's not just racing games, FIFA for example, still get high ratings from PushSquare despite have the exact same issue. So why do some games/franchises/developers get a free pass on this supposed problem while others do not?! Put differently, why is an incremental upgrade acceptable for FIFA but not for F1 or MotoGP].
Adding F2 is a big deal for people who actually buy (with their own money) and play these F1 games, it's one of the most wished-for features people have been asking for since Codemasters took over the license, and here it is ... yet marginalised to having negligible value. But hey at least the game looks pretty, that's the most important thing after all.
The PS4 will probably be my last console, especially with Yakuza arriving on PC. I like the idea of collecting gaming platforms and systems, but in practicality I prefer to have everyting on one system. The exception would be if Sony makes a new handheld console, that I would buy.
Playstation is not going to disappear anytime soon though, it might morph into different formats, but whether it's PC gaming, mobile gaming or console gaming, they all have to adapt to our new and looming technological environments. It's the nature of any tech-business.
The "too similar to" argument is pointless to me. It can be applied to any game. It just depends on the nature of your bias.
If you enjoy the gameplay of games like Diablo 3, Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, Victor Vran, Van Helsing ... and many others, Chaosbane is worth a look at some point. It's not as unique as say, Grim Dawn or Van Helsing, but is definitely fun if you enjoy the gameplay of this sub-genre.
I still haven't packed up my consoles from my moving boxes, so laptop gaming it is. Mainly older games, like Rage of Mages, Stronghold 2 and Alpha Centauri (which are still really good by the way), but also some new ones like Shadowgate and Offworld Trading Company.
Might get Chaosbane at launch. The Sinking City and Judgement are also primary ones for me. F1 2019 is on my shopping list, but not at launch. MotoGP 19 ... the previous game was a big disappointment, so I'll wait for the technical/performance reviews.
Good, I hated the Bloodborne/Dark Souls design of the previous game. That was utterly moronic and not at all what Darksiders is about in my opinion. [Although they did correct their mistake eventually, in some way]. Still, as someone who is not a fan of Dank Souls and Bloodbro', I'm sick of the concept. It already ruined God of War 2018 for me, then Darksiders 3, what's next to ruin ... Yakuza?
Not sure what they mean by "fresh direction" though. Open-world Battle Royale with crafting and npc-romancing?
Oooh that would be cool, old-school is best-school as far as RPGs are concerned. Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/Neverwinter ... all somewhere in the top of my favourite RPGs ever made. I certainly wouldn't complain about another Divinity title either.
Still renovating my gaming/media room, so no PS4 this weekend either since my TV is tucked away. Instead I've only been playing on my PC, with Observation (a really cool gaming experience), Euro + American Truck Simulator, and Bus Simulator 18. Will also try to find time for some strategy gaming with Total War Rome 2, Hegemeony 3 and Endless Space 2.
Looks exactly the same, apart from the big difference that you can make your own character. I hope it offers more visual variation, 90% of the first game was just dark and murky with nothing interesting to look at in terms of visual design.

@Wazeddie22 "Now despite the review for A Plague Tale:Innocence only getting a 6,I bought it a few days ago and gotta say I'm absolutely loving it!The graphics are good, the atmosphere is great and the voice acting I think is pretty decent too.Easily an 8 or 9 from me "
Yeah, if I paid any attention to PushSquare's scores, plus taking my interest into account, I probably wouldn't have bought a single game last year lol. The game looks really interesting, I'm only watching a playthrough right now, but will buy it for myself later on.
Having my media/game room repainted, and I'm restricted to my laptop. So I'm playing some old favourites: Dungeon Keeper 2, Star Wars Rebellion, Syndicate, and Simon the Sorcerer. Got Thimbleweed Park some time ago, so I might start that one up.
These games are fun to watch, but not something I would buy and play, because I don't think they don't have much depth compared to games like Detroit, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. Not that you have to choose of-course, you are allowed to like more than one or two things (in theory).
The focus of Until Dawn or Medan is not to tell a story, unlike Quantic's stuff, it's about the gore and survivalism, where the story or setting doesn't really matter. There's also a different emphasis in the types of choices you make: in Quantic's games the emphasis is on forcing the player make moral or ethical choices. That's not the case with Until Dawn, where the emphasis was on making choices that would keep your favourite characters alive.
I think it's cool to see a handheld console being popular once again. The success comes down to a number of things: design, games, marketing, and so on. In part I also think it is because the PS4 has become less attractive to a Japanese consumer choosing between a PS4 or Switch. I have the impression that Sony has been promoting the PS4 more actively overseas rather than at home. Just look at the big exclusives they launched, apart from Monster Hunter and Persona perhaps, they are all games tailored to a typical Western gamer.
Games like this have a more specific target audience though, in the same way Bulletstorm, Metro, Prey, Shadow Warrior, Dying Light and others, do. In other words, cool single-player FPS games
To me storylines in FPS games only really matter if it's a linear game, like Bioshock or Killzone. With open-world FPS games I mainly want a cool setting and atmosphere to do my stuff in, and some fun combat/gameplay mechanics. In general, the storyline has a rather low priority for me in FPS games: if I like the gameplay, I'll like the game.
One thing that annnoyes me though, is that most of the things that people complain about when it comes to Rage 2, and its predecessor, can be said about the Borderlands franchise as well, but the latter gets a free pass of-course.
Some F1 2018 on the PS4, but getting increasingly annoyed with my team's mood swings, will probably switch team for the next season ... "just tell me what you want me to say so you won't get depressed you big babies, I don't really care what I say in the interviews, holy moly ...". Then lots and lots of old-school goodness on my PC with Hegemony 3, Titan Quest, Pillars of Eternity, Age of Wonders 3,Elex and whatever similar stuff I can find the time for.
@doctommaso The thing is though; they have a tendency to do this. They don't use wordings such as "commercial flop' of similar, that describe the commercial succes of a 6-7/10 rated game, intead they use words that describe the game itself.
@Dange Pushsquare is often contradictory. They say things that are politically correct, like "the price-length ratio shouldn't really matter" or that "you should take a game's budget into account before reviewing a game since Indie games can't match AAA titles"... but then they do the opposite in practicality, especially when it comes to games from mid-tier studios.
This is something Pushsquare always does: in their reviews they might state that a 6-7/10 game is "not bad', but when they later refer to that game in articles (like this one) it's always described as 'bad' or 'rubbish'.
Dear Esther on the PS4. I've played it on PC already but that was before the upgraded edition, and I haven't played it on my PS4 since I bought it some time ago. I just love the thick dark atmosphere of it; to put on my headphones and soak everything in. Will probably replay Gone to Rapture as well.
Total War Rome 2 on PC. I've been more of a Hegemony guy (similar gameplay but much more generous with content), but decided to add this one to my collection as well. Will play as Egypt probably. Also some Production Line, it's like Big Pharma and Factorio but with car manufacturing.
They haven't made an awesome game since Neverwinter Nights, so my expectations have been quite low. They need to return to a smaller scale in my opinion, making smaller but more numerous niche games. I've enjoyed most of their later games, but nothing that really blew my mind.
I started playing Whispers from a Machine last week. I think it introduces some really interesting and unique mechanics into the genre, something you don't really see in other games, like the different tech-gadgets you can use.
In my first playthrough of Detroit I picked the "gentle" mode, where the protagonists have a higher chance of surviving, they are all likeable so I didn't want any of them to die. Yet even this mode was rather stressful lol.
Some F1 2018 on the PS4. Things are going quite well for me with Williams, unlike the real-life Williams team unfortunately. I don't really get the game's reputation system though, even though I think I'm saying something non-negative it ends up being perceived negatively by my team. The game is a bit too obscure about these thing, the same goes for the Sportsmanship vs Showmanship system.
It's not great, but I don't think it's overrated either, there should be an 'meh' option in-between these two choices in your listing. I liked many of the things the game had to offer but did not enjoy the combat at all, which is an important thing to enjoy in an action game. I'm not really into this Bloodborne/Dark Souls type combat. I also don't think the storyline was much interesting. Kids as characters in games usually become annoying rather quickly. These things made it impossible for me to continue playing the game.
Some Jurassic World Evolution and Aven Colony on the PS4. I really missed the gameworlds and gameplay styles. Is it possible to miss a gameplay mechanic? I think it is. I hope they make another Jurassic World game like this in the future, but with a bit more complexity and depth perhaps.
On PC my main project is learning how to play Hearts of Iron 4. I played Hoi2 a long time ago so I know the gist of it, but still it's quite an endeavor to learn. Also, picked up SpellForce 3, an rts+rpg mix. Will start that as well. Bought a package of all the Command & Conquer games, and will start a playthrough of all of them.
"Predictable" is one of the weakest arguments for an action game, or any game really. It's a reflection of your bias, not the game itself. I mean, you could make the very same argument against Bloodborne, Spider-Man, any Fifa, Fortnite, Far Cry, Division 2, Odyssey ... nothing new and surprising there, and they still sold quite well I'd think.
Looks cool, like Infinifactory meets No Man's sky. To be honest, by the time this arrives on the PS4 I would already have bought it on PC, seems like 2021 realease on the PS4 by the sounds of it.

Re: The Sinking City Shares 12 Minutes of Gameplay, Pre-Orders Now Live on PS4
It's got actual gameplay which means it probably won't sell well, as a horror-adventure game.
Re: ANTHEM Sheds Key Staff as BioWare Looks Towards Dragon Age 4
They haven't made an awesome game since Neverwinter Nights, so my expectations have been quite low. They need to return to a smaller scale in my opinion, making smaller but more numerous niche games. I've enjoyed most of their later games, but nothing that really blew my mind.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 269

Some Tyranny, Frostpunk and Stellaris on PC.
Re: Layers of Fear 2 Raises the Tension on PS4 in May
Will watch a walkthrough for sure. Not my kind of thing to play, but entertaining to watch with my favourite horror-game streamer.
Re: Sony's Flogging Days Gone Harder Than a Freaker Who Keeps Getting Back Up
They "flog" it to the same extent as every other PS4 excusive title.
Re: Poll: One Year Old Today, Have Your Thoughts on God of War Changed?
It's not great, but I don't think it's overrated either, there should be an 'meh' option in-between these two choices in your listing. I liked many of the things the game had to offer but did not enjoy the combat at all, which is an important thing to enjoy in an action game. I'm not really into this Bloodborne/Dark Souls type combat. I also don't think the storyline was much interesting. Kids as characters in games usually become annoying rather quickly. These things made it impossible for me to continue playing the game.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 267
Re: RAGE 2 Looks Fun But Pretty Darn Predictable in 10 Minutes of New Gameplay
"Predictable" is one of the weakest arguments for an action game, or any game really. It's a reflection of your bias, not the game itself. I mean, you could make the very same argument against Bloodborne, Spider-Man, any Fifa, Fortnite, Far Cry, Division 2, Odyssey ... nothing new and surprising there, and they still sold quite well I'd think.
Re: Is Satisfactory Coming to PS4?
Looks cool, like Infinifactory meets No Man's sky. To be honest, by the time this arrives on the PS4 I would already have bought it on PC, seems like 2021 realease on the PS4 by the sounds of it.
