Haven't bought and played any of them, but if I would: Ace Combat 7. That and Vesperia are on my wishlist, so.
Best game for me this month, that I have actually bought and played: The Grand Tour Game. Well, it's the only new game I bought in January, but still, I've enjoyed every second of it. It's a unique and quirky thing for fans of the TGT guys.
February is a bigger month for me, with both Monster Energy Supercross 2 and Dirt Rally 2.
I really like this type of action RPG: Grim Dawn, Van Helsing, Victor Vran, Shadows Awakening, Diablo 3 ... I can't seem to get enough of the stuff. So one more of these? Absolutely, looks fun!
@JJ-firl Great to meet another SL Rally fan! Yeah, I don't quite like Milestone's sim physics in the game. I wish they would have used the physics from WRC 4 instead to be honest. With enough assists on SLR becomes really fun though, and is still quite challenging. But man, there's such a huge amount of content in the game, I especially like the Loeb career stuff. I wish more games had this kind of tribute mode.
Sebastien Loeb Rally. Continuing with some Career stuff I had forgotten about. Really enjoying the game, although I think it is better experienced in arcade style, with lots of assists on, rather than the hardcore sim it tried to be.
Playing some The Grand Tour, the game. I'm really enjoying this one as well, the drifting takes some getting used to but the racing is lots of fun, albeit rather short.
On PC, some Spintires: Mudrunner, and probably Pillars of Eternity and Technobabylon as well. I might pick up Monster Energy Supercross 2 this weekend on PC.
Wow, that is pretty big news. I still have these games for my PC, so personally I don't think I will re-buy them for the PS4, but it's very cool to see them coming to the PS4.
@Omnicron I sometimes feel that the single-player in some of the BF games are mainly there to serve as "fodder" for trailers, to make the games look good, to look cool. I remember playing and enjoying the single-player in some of the earlier BF games, like the Bad Company series. From what I've played of the later BF games, there's always been a potential to me for a really fun single-player campaign, but they never commit to it, they only go half-way. So it's bizarre to hear them claim they prioritized single-player (among other things).
They (CoD & BF) have much more competition now when it comes to multiplayer games. I think this is partly a consequence of that.
Should they have focused exclusively on multiplayer content? Probably. 99% of the people who buy these games do it for the multiplayer, is my impression.
I really liked the hover mode, that was very cool. Having elevation at your whim adds a whole new dimension to the combat, it's fun.
The combat relies heavily on your special combat abilities or "extras", rather than the more regular weapons in your aresenal, like the machine guns, shotguns and what-not. Maybe it will be rebalanced later, who knows.
The combat and mission structure really feels like Destiny + Mass Effect Andromeda, minus the cover-based shooting. It's very much like a 3rd-person Destiny game, it borrows a great deal from Destiny in my opinion, more so than it borrows from Mass Effect.
The game makes it very clear it is designed for multipler, the single-player is just added for the sake of it. It sems that you get extra "XP" when you play in multiplayer, i.e. it penalises single-player.
The big issue for me is that Anthem reminds me of why I stopped playing Destiny: I want stories, lots of characters, and places with meaning attached to them. As with Destiny the game-wold feels rather shallow and empty. It's there to satisfy the multiplayer grind.
Oh my Gods it has a custom Championship mode! That's Gold. Every racing game should have that, ... I wish Wipeout had that. The controls in Grip has a rather steep learning curve, but I'm into technical racing games.
I read on the Steam page that the devs are working on some new (and free!) tracks for the game. It's a really cool game, ... the menues could be improved though, but that's a tiny complaint.
Grip looks great, but I'll probably buy it on PC though. Yakuza for this price is crazy (already have it). The Warhammer Bundle looks really good, I'm very tempted by that.
My brother will get the demo, so me and a buddy will pay him a visit this weekend and try it out. They are both interested in buying the game, but so far it has eluded my interest. It's always good to try a game for yourself before you make a decision, so of-course I'm interested in trying the demo. However, I'm dedicating my spending on racing games this year, and Dirt Rally 2 is just around the corner, and Monster Energy Supercross 2 has just been released, so even if I wanted to play Anthem it would have to take the backseat (so maybe next year at best).
Bullcrap, the PS4 has lots of good racing games on offer, especially for gamers who are actually interested in motorsports, cars and superbikes. Not everything can be Forza or Mario kart.
The issue for me is that the game does not have much of a personality. It takes parts of Destiny and Warframe, and combines them with the latest Mass Effect games. The flying/traversal is unique, but as a whole the way it plays and the way the narrative is done feels somewhat dull or generic to me.
It's not really a single-player game though, so my expectations are unreasonable I know.
However, I have two gaming friends who really want me to buy Anthem and play it with them when it launches, but I have no interest in it. I enjoyed playing Destiny with my friends, but I don't think I would enjoy playing this one. Destiny still felt unique in some way, it had a personality. I don't get that from I've seen of this game so far.
@MinerWilly Yeah it's my main "staple". My interest in motorsports is what got me into gaming as a hobby. It's all about role-playing for me: my chances of racing in Formula One or MotoGP are pretty slim in real-life, but in video games I can do that. It's not that I dislike other genres in any way, but with limited time and money I want to focus on what I enjoy the most. Racing games also never get too old for me, I still enjoy playing PS1 racing games.
On the PS4, some shorter sessions of racing with: Ride 3, V-Rally 4, Nascar Heat 3, and Dakar 18. I'm also starting a new Championship playthrough in MotoGP 17, this time playing as Maverick ViƱales, one of the riders I'm cheering for.
On PC, I bought Assetto Corsa Competizione on Early Access this week. Not much content right now, but I really like what the devs are doing with this title, it looks and feels great. Also playing some Automobilista, this time in the Brazilian Touring car series. RaceRoomRacing as always, continuing a custom GT4 championship.
Not my kind of game, watching a playthrough is enough for me. Besides, I only plan to buy racing games and similar stuff this year (Dirt Rally 2, GTR 3, WRC 8, Assetto Corsa Competizione ... ). Maybe Days Gone, but that's about it. Trying to buy less of a back-log this year and really focus on my favourite genres and franchises.
The Grand Tour game. The latest update to the PS4 version finally made the game playable. I think it's a fun and quirky game, I really do like the humor and sillyness of it. It's an extension of the TV show rather than a "regular" game, it's probably closer to being an interactive story. I wasn't expecting an Assetto Corsa or Gran Turismo-like. I got the game I expected (minus the technical problem at launch obviously). Some Ride 3 as well on the PS4.
On PC, some Euro Truck, RaceRoomRacing, Pillars of Eternity, and Tex Murphy ("Tesla").
I would have updated the list to include: Railway Empire, Blood Bowl 2, Jurassic World Evolution, Aven Colony, Grand Ages: Medieval, 8-Bit Armies, Dungeons 3, Mutant Year Zero, Nobunaga's Ambition: Taishi, and Surviving Mars.
I agree with the general sentiment: if the core game is promoting 'player choice' as one of its big attractions, it should carry over to the DLCs or expansions as well. It's not as if this game has that many different endings. Some of them are quite close so they could get away with just a few broader DLC paths, it depends on how they structure it. This just feels a bit sloppy and lazy of the developers.
Rebel Galaxy and Vane are both on my radar already.
I would add: The Sinking City, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, Babylon's Fall, Desperados 3, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Journey to the Savage Planet. Although I'm not sure they will all launch this year.
There's also not as much hype for Dirt Rally 2 and One Piece: World Seeker as I expected.
MotoGP 17 on the PS4. The latest one, MotoGP 18, was rather disappointing on the technical front, so I stopped playing it and went back to '17 instead, which is a much better game. Re-bought MotoGP 14 and 15 for the PS4 from the current sale, will test those out as well, I remember them fondly.
I've just bought a Steam controller, so most of my gaming time this weekend will be spent on trying out some of my PC games, from point & clicks to RTS. The first game I'll go into though, will be some Tex Murphy.
I am surprised to see CoD at the top since I haven't heard much about it, but then again I don't move around in those circles, those YouTube and Twitch channels.
I bought too many games last year, period, especially digital ones. It's funny, I have a friend who only buys 2 games maximum every year but then plays those things to bits, like Destiny and WoW for example. And I'm like 'here's the 30 games I bought this year...'.
Yay! Days Gone at the top. It's the one AAA game I will buy and play for sure this year. I'm far from tired of the zombie theme, especially if it has a cool story-setting-characters to back it up. I don't need/want a profound literary work for this to be great.
I have never been able to get into Resident Evil, not even the old ones or the new ones. It just doesn't do anything for me. The remake does look very impressive though.
Between the listed games: Dreams, Concrete Genie and Days Gone. I really want Days Gone to be the Romero-game I've been waiting for, and from what I've seen so far it could very well be that game. It pretty much checks all the boxes for me.
They are not the only 2019 games I really look forwards to though. In fact most of them are not even listed in your fancy selection: The Grand Tour Game, GTR 3, "anything Yakuza", and Dirt Rally 2. There's also The Sinking City and Journey to the Savage Planet. Also: Desperados III and Wasteland 3. Although I'm not sure whether I'll buy them on PC or the PS4. I'm also really hoping that 'The Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep' will launch on console this year.
@andreoni79 Personally I enjoyed Call of Cthulhu, I certainly think it's much better than 90% of the horror games so many people today think are great (Outlast, Layers of Fear ... for me those were bad games).
A good selection of games, even though my own Top 10 would not feature any of these. It's nice to see people really valuing the single-player exclusives this much. I mean, if the same poll was made on Steam, I bet the majority of the Top 10 games would be multiplayer games. So even though I don't care much for God of War, I still think it's great that it was so successful, since I want games in general to focus on single-player.
@PS_Nation I prefer Origins in terms of gameplay. I did not like the combat in Odyssey, with its Bloodborne-styled overly-technical melee combat with bad controller scheme. It also does not allow for much stealth and assassin gameplay, at least when compared to previous AC games, ... including Origins. I prefer the Egyptian settings, it's more unique to me.
However, I do prefer the main character in Odyssey, i.e. Kassandra, over Bayek. I think her story is more interesting to follow and explore, ... and frankly I just like her more.
The settings look really good and the atmosphere highly fitting for a Lovecraft theme. 'At the Mountains of Madness' is actually my favourite Lovecraft novel, so you can bet I will pick this up.
It's a nice general list of 'good games' for the PS4, although my own listing would look very different.
I did not enjoy the combat in God of War, so for me it would not feature on a list like this. I haven't played Spider-Man, RDR2, Spyro and Dragon Quest XI, but definitely plan to one day.
So between the games I've played on the list, I would have placed Hollow Knight and Shadow of the Colossus much higher, as #1-2. For me, both of these games are excellent to replay; I enjoy subsequent playthroughs almost as much as the very first. For a similar reason I would place Monster Hunter as #3, it's fun to return to. I really enjoyed Detroit and Ni no Kuni 2, but don't think I will return to them as often as the others.
Yakuza 6, Detroit, and Ni no Kuni 2 for me. Between these games my #1 pick would be Yakuza 6. My fourth and fifth picks would have been Jurassic World Evolution and Forgotton Anne. However, I also really liked Monster Hunter World and Tomb Raider.
The Connor - Hank dynamic was the most interesting one in the game, I agree. However, I also liked Markus' story in the game, and the continuation of his path could also work well in a DLC. Kara's story was good but I'm not sure how a DLC would look with her's in focus.
Of-course they could make a DLC which focuses on a fourth person, maybe just Hank, or one (or more) of the other characters we met in the game.
In any case, the game certainly caters to a DLC or expansion of sorts. Detroit was one of my favourite games from last year, and is on my Top 10 list of Adventure games. I do hope to see more of its gameworld.
I wasn't really thinking of Q.U.B.E. 2, I knew it existed and that I would get it eventually since I enjoyed the first game.
Gardens Between is in my backlog, I just need to finish a couple of other Indies before I tackle this atmospheric puzzle game (which is what sold the game to me).
Mainly GT Sport on the PS4. On PC some Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2 and Torment; Tides of Numenera. I have a serious craving for old-school/classic right now. Hope to play some Yakuza as well this weekend.
I only liked Conviction, perhaps because I'm not a big fan of stealth games and this allowed for a more open approach. I also liked how they narrated the game, it had a really nice flow between gameplay and story. I like stealth games that give you the option of 'stealth until it fails', and the classic Spinter Cell games (and Blacklist) never allowed for that.
Really liked the game, I just wished it was even more sci-fi. Although I understand why they wanted to emphasize the human aspects of these characters, to highlight the intellectual side of the topic. Still, I was hoping for some more cool sci-fi stuff, superficial as that may be perhaps.
Cool, one of my favourite franchises, just my kind of FPS. All of my favourite FPS games have been PC games, apart from Resistance. I already have the Serious Sam collection on PC so I don't feel I need to buy it on the PS4, unless they decide to add some extra stuff.
@gingerfrog I was just going by personal experience: every console gamer I have ever known and met (until now at least, evidently ), has had some form of computer at home, whether PC or Mac, desktop or laptop.
I recently bought Jurassic World Evolution for the PS4. That was my surprise Holiday game ... since I wasn't planning on buying it yet, but for the current sale price it was an easy decision. Really enjoying it, I'm even thinking of buying the expansion as well right now. I'll also be playing some 'Hunter - Call of the Wild' and Assetto Corsa on the PS4. Lastly, some Elite Dangerous + Euro Truck + American Truck on PC.
@FullbringIchigo Sure is I've been having a Deep Space Nine marathon. I always get in a nostalgic Star Trek mood around Christmas. Last year it was Voyager, this year DS9.
@FullbringIchigo I think they went with the smallest expense for the biggest reach, as there are more console gamers with a decent PC/Mac than there are PC gamers with a PS4/XBoxOne.
I agree. A more appropriate gift would have been some free DLC or mini-expansion for Fallout 4 or '76, i.e. something that would work on all platforms.
It is a lower sacrifice for them to give away a bunch of games that so few people play these days, or would want to play even, rather than something like like Fallout 3 or Doom. I think these early Fallout games have all been available for free at some point on both GOG and Steam.
I think the vast majority of console users have a PC powerful enough (lol) to play these games. The bigger issue is that these games are vastly different in style and gameplay from the modern Fallout games, and the people who liked or are interested in the older games most likely already have them. So it's a "safe" giveaway for them.

Re: Dangerous Driving, the New Arcade Racer from Burnout Creators, Smashes onto PS4 in April
But as we all know there are hardly any racing games at all on the PS4 so this is redundant news as it will not make a dent.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Playing the ANTHEM Public Demo This Weekend?
Well I tried the game.
I really liked the hover mode, that was very cool. Having elevation at your whim adds a whole new dimension to the combat, it's fun.

For that reason I will still keep this on my wish-list, but will wait for a patch before I buy.

Re: Lovecraftian Adventure Game Conarium Heading to PS4 Next Month
The settings look really good and the atmosphere highly fitting for a Lovecraft theme. 'At the Mountains of Madness' is actually my favourite Lovecraft novel, so you can bet I will pick this up.
Re: Game of the Year 2018: Our Top Ten Favourite PS4 Games of 2018
It's a nice general list of 'good games' for the PS4, although my own listing would look very different.
Re: Poll: Vote for Your PlayStation Game of the Year 2018
Yakuza 6, Detroit, and Ni no Kuni 2 for me. Between these games my #1 pick would be Yakuza 6. My fourth and fifth picks would have been Jurassic World Evolution and Forgotton Anne. However, I also really liked Monster Hunter World and Tomb Raider.
Re: Detroit Developer Quantic Dream Teases Great News Soon
Re: Game of the Year 2018: Rebecca's Personal Picks
I wasn't really thinking of Q.U.B.E. 2, I knew it existed and that I would get it eventually since I enjoyed the first game.
Gardens Between is in my backlog, I just need to finish a couple of other Indies before I tackle this atmospheric puzzle game (which is what sold the game to me).
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 252
Mainly GT Sport on the PS4. On PC some Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2 and Torment; Tides of Numenera. I have a serious craving for old-school/classic right now. Hope to play some Yakuza as well this weekend.
Re: Bloodborne and Dark Souls Developer From Software has Two Unannounced Projects in the Works
I'm hoping for an Armored Core game, a reboot or sequel of sorts, heck even a remaster collection would be great.
We have a tonne of Dark Souls-type games already, but were are the tactical mecha shooters?
A King's Field remaster, reboot or sequel would be great as well. Also, Otogi, Kuon and Ninja Blade.
Re: Days Gone Multiplayer Was Pitched, But Sony Said No
A good decision, I want a storydriven zombie game in true Romero style, we have so very few of those.
Re: Ubisoft Was Working on a New Splinter Cell at One Point
I only liked Conviction, perhaps because I'm not a big fan of stealth games and this allowed for a more open approach. I also liked how they narrated the game, it had a really nice flow between gameplay and story. I like stealth games that give you the option of 'stealth until it fails', and the classic Spinter Cell games (and Blacklist) never allowed for that.
Re: Game of the Year 2018: #5 - Detroit: Become Human
Really liked the game, I just wished it was even more sci-fi. Although I understand why they wanted to emphasize the human aspects of these characters, to highlight the intellectual side of the topic. Still, I was hoping for some more cool sci-fi stuff, superficial as that may be perhaps.
Re: Serious Sam Collection Seemingly Screaming to PS4
Cool, one of my favourite franchises, just my kind of FPS. All of my favourite FPS games have been PC games, apart from Resistance. I already have the Serious Sam collection on PC so I don't feel I need to buy it on the PS4, unless they decide to add some extra stuff.
Re: Bethesda Is Handing Out Fallout Classic Collection to All Fallout 76 Players
@gingerfrog I was just going by personal experience: every console gamer I have ever known and met (until now at least, evidently ), has had some form of computer at home, whether PC or Mac, desktop or laptop.
Looking at some numbers, just for fun: in the US at least 78% of households have a desktop or laptop at home (http://overflow.solutions/demographic-data/what-percentage-of-american-homes-have-a-computer/,, http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/11/25/device-ownership/,, https://www.reference.com/technology/many-americans-own-computer-9e3d9b40e537638), while 26% have a gaming console of sorts (https://www.statista.com/statistics/320315/number-users-game-consoles-usa/,). Some research place the latter figure at 48%, which is still a big difference from 78 and over (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/percentage-of-us-homes-with-game-console-drops-for/1100-6439360/,). So the odds of a console gamer also having a computer in his or her home, is much higher than a computer owner having a console in their home.
In Europe I think the number of households with a computer is most likely higher, again going by experience.
Re: Poll: What Games Do You Plan on Playing Over the Holidays?
I recently bought Jurassic World Evolution for the PS4. That was my surprise Holiday game ... since I wasn't planning on buying it yet, but for the current sale price it was an easy decision. Really enjoying it, I'm even thinking of buying the expansion as well right now. I'll also be playing some 'Hunter - Call of the Wild' and Assetto Corsa on the PS4. Lastly, some Elite Dangerous + Euro Truck + American Truck on PC.
Re: Bethesda Is Handing Out Fallout Classic Collection to All Fallout 76 Players
@FullbringIchigo Sure is I've been having a Deep Space Nine marathon. I always get in a nostalgic Star Trek mood around Christmas. Last year it was Voyager, this year DS9.
Re: Bethesda Is Handing Out Fallout Classic Collection to All Fallout 76 Players
Re: Bethesda Is Handing Out Fallout Classic Collection to All Fallout 76 Players
I think the vast majority of console users have a PC powerful enough (lol) to play these games. The bigger issue is that these games are vastly different in style and gameplay from the modern Fallout games, and the people who liked or are interested in the older games most likely already have them. So it's a "safe" giveaway for them.
