I'm also high in anticipation for 8-Bit Armies to arrive on the PS4, in late September. I bought and played the game on PC already, but wouldn't mind buying it again for my PS4.
Nice, I really liked the first game. It was more than your usual Metroidvania game, they experimented a great deal with the format, tried out new things. It will be interesting to see what they can do. Even if it's the same or very similar, I'm still very much interested.
Downgrade or not, it's still a great-looking game. Besides, one single screenshot is not enough to claim the developers are lying about their explanation. Too many gamers today have a habit of jumping to conclusions.
Who I blame for generating this pointless drama? click-bait journalism, "game critics", hyped-up console kids and teens, and the ever-present PC Masterrace folk.
I'm excited for the game. Kylotonn's WRC games have been really good in terms of gameplay, physics and visuals. So I don't expect any disappointments in this regard. I hope they make the Career mode engaging and immersive. That's been Kylotonn's main weakpoint, compared to what you get in an F1 or MotoGP Career experience.
Gymkhana is not my favourite element, it's mostly fun if you use a racing wheel, not a controller. It also depends on how complex they make the physics, if it's tough and challenging it could be fun even with a controller. My main interest lies in the other racing events.
While it's good for parents to know about this, the fact is they rarely read what's on the boxes. For this idea to work in practice, it has to be pointed out to the parents, by the retail staff, that the game has in-game purchases. It's not going to make any difference otherwise.
One of the first games I played on PC, back in the early 90's. I loved the visual style but the gameplay really tested my patience. I still have a strong affection towards the game, partly because of the visual style and story (as simple as it is) and partly for the nostalgia-factor. In my book it will always be a 9/10 game.
From what I've seen of the game, the base-building looked fun. However, I'm not convinced there's enough fun things to do besides this, of how much content there is. These kind of games are super-subjective in their enjoyment though, perhaps more so than other genres. Personally, I'm really hoping for Stranded Deep to arrive on console, that would be my kind of game in this genre.
Planet Alpha is #1 for me, it looks like awesome spectacular fun. This is followed by Moonfall Ultimate, a Metroidvania-style game which looks really cool to me. I will buy them at launch for sure.
I will definitely get V-Rally 4 and NASCAR Heat 3 later this year.
Dragon Quest XI, Spider-Man, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 will have to wait until next year.
Supernice. One of my favourite tracks to race on in recent years. I really like the look of the 1500 Biposto, but I bet it will cost me a small fortune of in-game currency. I'm an old-school racing gamer however, I don't mind the grind for currency, in fact I don't even consider it grinding.
Meanwhile Steam considers its gamers the most 'hardcore' of all gamers. GOG on the other hand, another popular PC game distributor, considers its DRM-free consumer-base to be the only hardcore gamer group in existence; not Steam gamers and certainly not console gamers,… and so on, and so on.
It's such a pointless statement, no matter who makes it. There's no such thing as a typical hardcore gamer, since you can definite it in so many ways, to whatever suits your agenda.
I'm still dumbfounded that so many reviewers and critics today, many of them very popular, still choose to review a game like this as if it were a modern game. I say 'choose' because they do seem able to apply the 'don't judge this by modern standards'-rule when it applies to their own favourite childhood games.
This could be a positive thing. It's a series that has markedly improved with each iteration, and it will be interesting to see what difference this publisher will make. My hopes are that the next game will have an ever bigger and deeper single-player campaign, although the focus should still be on the gameplay, the physics.
I will definitely buy both Call of Cthulhu and the Sinking City. It's been a silly long time since I last saw a Mythos game close to what you experience in the actual books. Both of these titles have this approach, of a narrative-driven immersive experience.
There's far too much misconception in the gaming media and the gaming community about the Mythos, by people who have never actually read any of Lovecraft's books.
Desperados III is also on my shopping list. I liked the older Desperados games on PC, especially 'Dead or Alive'. I loved laying 'Blades of the Shogun' on the PS4. So combining the two is a great thing.
I bought lots of new furniture, and have been assembling the new ones and disassembling the old ones. No more old, big, and and heavy furniture for me. They are too annoying and frustrating to get rid of. So I haven't had much time over for gaming. Today though, on Sunday, I'll hopefully have time for something really relaxing, and will probably continue with Shift Quantum and Owlboy on the PS4 and perhaps some American Truck on PC.
Shadow Tactics worked well with a controller, and it's likely they'll use the same system for this game by the looks of it. Not that you can really innovate that much when it comes to this particular kind of stealth game.
Sekiro is still rather SoulsBorne-like, at least for me; it has a similar atmosphere to it so far, and requires a high level of technical skill (compared to most other action games or action-rpgs),
I'll keep an open-mind about it. I like most racing games and I'm quite a fan of the guys.
Doing some research, I found that the game will be on the arcade side of things with boosts and what-not, a tongue-in-cheek kind of racing adventure.
I like the idea of an arcade-like "Top Gear" game, it sounds like a fun thing, but it will come down to the execution as always. Whether there's any depth or scope to it, how serious Amazon is about going into the gaming business.
I was just wishing for this the other day in another post. 'Great' this is what they should be focusing on. I like the idea of having a collection of shorter stories, it's a very fitting model for this kind of game. I'd rather have a number of cool shorter stories than a long one, since you can explore more interesting horror ideas in way this.
Wow, awesome! Loved the old games on PC. Blades of the Shogun played rather well with a controller, so if the same developers are making this one, it's a good surprise indeed.
Nice. I know people feel it's inspired by Dark Souls, but for me it shouts 'Bloodborne' all over. I don't really care about "delays", I'm just happy it will arrive on the PS4 in the first place.
I'm really looking forwards to this game. A great Lovecraft-based game needs to be a classic Adventure game, not action or other. It needs the slower pace, with immersive atmospheres, solid narrative and good characterizations. The developers are really good at these things already, so I have little doubt I will get what I hope for: a good Lovecraft story and environment, with the gameplay of 'Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter'.
@alphadrago5 The gameplay itself is going to be like the latest Sherlock Holmes games, since it's the same developer and they have anounced that it will be an "investigation" Adventure game.
I'm getting a stronger horror vibe from this game compared to the previous ones, it's almost Resident Evil 7-like. It also feels very Stalker-esque, when you combine the atmosphere and the open-world gameplay. I didn't mind the linearity of other Metro games at all, but I have been wishing for a new Stalker experience, and this could be it.
@Turismo4GT I used to watch Digital at the start but I think they do too many 'X vs Y' comparisons that feel utterly pointless to a consumer, that don't serve a purpose other than to feed the toxicity we all know of. It's mainly these ones I consider to be click-bait. Some of the things they do can be useful for a developer, but in my opinion they've done too many mistakes and don't do enough (or any) updates when a game is patched. Their format could be really good, but I feel they opted for sensationalism rather than professionalism.
I'm excited to see what they can do with weather effect systems, sounds fun. I enjoyed all the previous games, so I'm far from objective on the matter (post-edit: played JC3 on PC). It will be cool to see just how crazy and over-the-top they go.
Still playin' it, still lovin' it. For me it's an awesome game to play casually: jump in, do some grinding, ocassionally fight a new "boss" creature. It's so unique to me as well, since I never played the previous games.
@andreoni79 Like Apostate said in his reply, it works really well with a controller, although it obviously has a learning curve. I first played Elite on PC, with my Hotas flightstick, but tried it with a controller and found it more fun and easier to manage. Most people who play this game use a controller, something the developers must have recognized when making it, because it works really well. It's an awesome game, I even re-bought it for the PS4 since I prefer that system.
I like Euro Fishing a great deal, so I'll be picking this one up at some point. These kind of games are unusual in that they are simultaneously rather relaxing yet also stressful, in a mellow way. I expect plenty of DLCs and a Season Pass that is not actually a Season Pass.
Shift Quantum, a black & white puzzle-platformer. Picked it up from the current sale. It has a really nice sci-fi atmosphere to it, and the music is superb. You can also design your own levels and share them with others.
Owlboy, a Metroid-vania game with lots of personality, charm and originality. I've heard an abundance of positive things about the game and can certainly understand why.
MotoGP 18 as usual. I'm doing quite well so far, in reaching the team objectives. However, I notice more and more how the AI in this latest MotoGP game is a set-back from MotoGP 17. The AI feels much less polished and even dumb at times. While this latest iteration has plenty of good additions to the series, the technical quality is a big disappointment compared to MotoGP 17.
Probably something on the PC as well, maybe American Truck Simulator or RaceRoomRacingExperience. I'm thinking about buying and starting with Unavowed, a point & click adventure game by one of my favourite adventure game developers, Wadjet Eye.
Frankly, I just want another [regular] Until Dawn game. Just copy the exact same format or system, but have a different storyline and characters, and I think most people would be really happy. They don't have to re-invent the wheel; they have a great model already, one that is far from exhausted.
I bought this on PC a while ago, exactly because of the reasons you point out. It's a world we don't experience much in games, not in this mature and serious way anyhow. It's worth the unique experience if you are an open-minded person.
@RoyalGuard I usually test some of the set-ups others have posted on sites like RaceDepartment or f1carsetup (http://f1carsetup.com/index.php?/forum/310-f1-2017-setups/). Sometimes I find one that really works for me, but most of the time I have to tweak them a bit to suit my own style. Still, they are a very good starting point. You'll be really surprised I think, by the difference it will make to your driving, if you get a really good set-up.
@dark_knightmare2 In that case I can fully understand your viewpoint. I'm rather tired of these "corridor" horror games that PT inspired. Another thing that made Observer so good was that it had actual gameplay elements, you didn't just walk around looking at things.
@dark_knightmare2 I think 'poor mans pt' is quite an exaggeration, to me Layers of Fear looked really good the PS4, and strikingly good on PC of-course.
I really liked Observer, despite the technical issues. However, I never got interested in Layers of Fear. Since Observed didn't sell that well, they might return to their earlier style with this new game, which means there's a high risk I won't be interested in playing it. The big appeal Observer had with me was the whole sci-fi aspect of it, plus the visual style and awesome voiceacting. So I think I'm more of an Observer-fan than Bloober-fan.
It's good that they improve on the right things with F1 2018. It's not the driving and physics they had to improve or expand upon, but the softer aspects like management and team interaction. It's things that fans have complained about for years, so it's nice see it getting more attention, even though it is rather late of them.
Really good review though. Racing games usually get a rather sloppy or hasty review in the mainstream press (in contrast to those who focus on reviewing racing games).
My interest lies in the Indie Arena Booth games. That's where the most interesting games are in my opinion: The Sinking City, Star Renegades, The Sojourn, Atone, Antigraviator, Trueberbrook - A Nerd Saves the World, Felix The Reaper, FAR: Lone Sails, Etherborn, 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, and many more, coming to the PS4.
@Flaming_Kaiser I still disagree with the whole storyline issue, but agree when it comes to the technical aspects. For a $60 game it should not have the problems it has. Although other games have gotten a decent scores despite having similar issues, Kingdome Come Deliverance for example, as noted by PushSquare themselves (https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/02/kingdom_come_launch_issues_noted_should_be_patched_in_approximately_2_weeks) , who still gave it a 7/10 score. To me 'technical issues' are category worse than having a weak storyline and similar.
Most games have storylines that could easily be told in a 2-hour experience: Bloodborne, Dark Souls, the Long Dark, Monster Hunter World, Far Cry 5, just to name a few.
Games that have elobrate and lengthy storylines and narratives are the exception rather than the rule, in my opinion. Games like Uncharted, Detroit, the Last of Us, Divinity Original Sin and so on.
I think the mistake they did with Happy Few was to have a "typical" AAA-like narrative. The game is more fitting as a sandbox survival game in my opinion, that's what they should have focused 100% on. I feel the same way with the Long Dark.

Re: Review: We Happy Few (PS4)
