Nioh 2's alpha test got underway yesterday, but footage of the early beta is already surfacing across the internet. Thanks to YouTube user Shirrako, we've got almost four hours worth of gameplay to munch on that those lucky enough to be invited are playing right now. Check out the first part above, while the second dose of 96 minute action can be found here.
We haven't had the chance to watch every second of footage just yet, but what we have seen has left us impressed and seriously anticipating the Koei Tecmo follow-up. It's all looking good and stable too, which hopefully means a release this year isn't out of the realms of possibility.
We're not entirely sure if the YouTube user in question is breaking any sort of embargo by uploading the footage, so you might want to get in on these two videos quick. Order a Saturday night takeaway and cosy up with a loved one for this slice of Nioh 2 action, then let us know what you think in the comments below.

Real talk?
Nioh is stupidly fun. I was invited to play the Alpha Demo. And I honestly forgot how absurdly amazing the combat is. And generally just how great it is. And how good it feels to play.
Nioh 2 is more or less what I wish Sekiro would have been.
Man, I’d forgotten all about Nioh 2. Looks promising!
Only had a quick bash at the demo so far and I wasn't sure on it. The key words being quick bash. Maybe it's better when you start to sink your teeth into it. For the record I haven't played the first one.
It looks very, very, very, very similar to the first game. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind...
Love the character creator addition. Lookin' good!
I am playing the Alpha,it is nioh but even better,i love the hatchet moveset and the new yokai skills thing, and the living weapons being a yokai transformation instead of just an elemental sword and some boosts is just... 10/10 stuff
Nioh was really really good. I beat the base game, but never finished dlc, hard as nails. I need to go back and play it again. I kinda like the mission structure of it, but kinda wished it would of been a interconnected world like from soft games. But then again, i guess it was nice that it was different.
Glad to hear it’s on par with the first game! One of my favourite of this generation so far!
I’ll be preordering this shortly!
I got an invite, but I gave the code to my friend who lent me the first game. Only seemed right, y'know?
Looks exactly the same, apart from the big difference that you can make your own character. I hope it offers more visual variation, 90% of the first game was just dark and murky with nothing interesting to look at in terms of visual design.
@ShogunRok the alpha is very familiar, but adds enough new things to keep it fresh. I’m having a great (brutal) time with it.
The empty red bar under the ki, what is that for?
I like the visualization of the samurai skills...
Edit: Blue graves are benevolent graves to “request assistance”? Does that mean souls-like coop or NPC?
I completed100% of the original NIOH, including all DLCs, the NIOH2 looks VERY MUCH LIKE THE FIRST ONE, it almost is another DLC of NIOH. Most of the designs look identical: weapons, movesets, exploring systems and such. But I like the character creation function, and the demon transforming looks cool. The pets found in the game are heart-warming indeed, I actually smiled out when I see the girl in the game petting a rolling ball cat. Another small feature though, finally female characters would take off their clothes when taking a hotspring bath! I like the original NIOH, and if the NIOH2 has a good storyline, I will surely buy it.
@OrangeBagels Hard as hell but so rewarding even with grinding you needed too work for it. 😃
For an alpha version, the gameplay looks really good. I never played the first one. I might just skip to this one if it’s an improved version of the first.
