Re: Highguard (PS5) - Jack of All Trades PS5 Shooter Is Fine

BearsEatBeets

@honda Not in any way dismissing your opinion of the game but I'm just fascinated by the effort you have gone to for a game you found so uninspired and boring. You carried on playing for over 20 hours? Surely you have played enough rounds in a hour or two to know if you liked it or not?
Then went to the effort of creating an account on a site just for this game.

Fair play for giving it a chance, I just can't imagine devoting that much time and effort for something I disliked.

Re: Crimson Desert Deep Dive Tries to Prove Its Crazy Potential Is Reality

BearsEatBeets

I love a good open world to explore and this one does look visually impressive and vast.
I'm not sure the combat looks to my taste, a bit over the top with all the powers and effects going off. Plus I'm not big on lots of long boss fights.

I feel like it's trying to do too many different systems and styles though.

Also, the videos are still lots of edited together clips. I'd like to see a full 15 minutes of unedited footage of doing a side-quest or something.

It would be handy if they do demo.

Re: PS Plus Essential Game for February 2026 Leaked

BearsEatBeets

I let my sub expire at the end of November planning on resubbing with a Black Friday sale. Of course they never offered a sale on the essential tier so I left it for now.
None of the monthly games since have made me ponder for a second about rejoining.

Re: Fable Announced for PS5, Releases in Autumn 2026

BearsEatBeets

When I borrowed a friends 360 many years ago the Fable games were the only ones I truly enjoyed of the ones I tried. So this looks very promising to me.
Still much to learn so I will wait for reviews but this is the first Xbox game I'm interested in.

Re: The Witcher 3 Really Could Be Getting a New Expansion on PS5 in 2026

BearsEatBeets

It seems certain that Fools Theory is making something for CD Projekt Red and it has most of their staff on it (unlike the Witcher 1 remake which is still very early with a small team).
Considering they have lots of ex-CDPR staff who know the Red Engine it seems very plausible. Lots of questions about what it actually is though.

If it's coming this year it might not be too long before we find out.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Believes Exclusives Make Consoles 'Sing'

BearsEatBeets

For me, the biggest benefit of exclusives is that they give a developer the excuse to put quality above all else, even profit. The role of the exclusive is to bring people into your eco-system. The profit you make from an exclusive is not just it's own sales but all the potential extra sales bringing someone to your platform can bring.
Plus the one platform optimization he mentioned helps with that goal.

Re: Naughty Dog Forces Crunch to Get PS5 Exclusive Intergalactic 'Back on Track' for Mid 2027 Release

BearsEatBeets

It's just a sad fact that a huge amount of workhours were lost to the multiplayer project and it has cost Naughty Dog heavily this generation. The same is true of Bluepoint.
I've watched enough behind the scenes documentaries on game dev to know that knowing precisely how much time is needed is very difficult.
Fingers crossed this extra push (if true) has been enough to get them back to a confident place.

Re: 'This Is Going to Be Us Unleashed': Divinity Is Baldur's Gate 3 Dev at Its 'Next Level'

BearsEatBeets

Everything he says about the project sounds promising except the AI bit, but as long as that remains purely for throwing out ideas that a human creative then iterates and improves on before going in the game it should be fine.
I especially like that they want to go even more cinematic. I wish them well in expanding and becoming more efficient.

I'm curious how they are handling the two projects (earlier in the year they said they are working on 2). Are they planning slight overlap but concentrating mainly on one or working equally on both?

Re: PS Studios and Many More Wish You Happy Holidays with These Jolly Festive Cards

BearsEatBeets

@Americansamurai1 I'm assuming he was working with a very small group whilst everyone else did Ragnarok but would have thought it became the main project since that shipped in 22. I'd like to think they might be getting close to having something to show.
To be honest I'm happy for it to be a complete mystery until they are ready to show. It would be nice to get a rare surprise nowadays.

Re: 'Grace Is the Biggest Scaredy-Cat in Resident Evil History': Capcom Details How Leon's Gameplay Will Differ in Requiem

BearsEatBeets

I can see it working, the narrative switching between characters in the Revelation games worked well but I suppose the gameplay stays similar throughout in that.
I just hope they don't go overboard with the action in Leon's sections. For me RE2 is still the benchmark for the perfect balance. RE4 is still great but I consider it already tipping slightly too heavy into action.
I'm still hoping a few of the other original characters put in an appearance, even if we don't get to control them.

Re: Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Announced, from Mass Effect Director

BearsEatBeets

I could have sworn the last I heard about Casey Hudson’s new studio was that the project had been cancelled or something.

The little information for this does sound good though 🤞

EDIT: Looking into it, the studio he formed after leaving Bioware did indeed close down at the end of 2024 after their project failed to get enough funding. So this must be another start from fresh and means this must be barely more than an idea at this point.

Re: Mini Review: Old School Rally (PS5) - Don't Cut This Retro Rally Throwback

BearsEatBeets

@MrPeanutbutterz @Morzy I obviously didn't make my point clear because gameplay is irrelevant to my point. I totally understand you don't need flash graphics to be fun.
The point is you can make the game more visually appealing with very little effort and zero effect on gameplay. It is made with these visuals purely to evoke an era, for nostalgic feelings.

I'm not judging or saying it shouldn't be done. People clearly like it so that is all that matters.

Re: Mini Review: Old School Rally (PS5) - Don't Cut This Retro Rally Throwback

BearsEatBeets

@LifeGirl Yeah nostalgia was the only reason I could think of.
I mentioned the silent movie analogy as it's about technical limitations. Once they knew how to make films with sound there was no reason to make a silent movie as it wasn't an artistic choice. Rally games looked like that at the time purely due to technical limitations.
I suppose I just underestimate how appealing nostalgia is as a selling point. It clearly works or they wouldn't make them.

It doesn't really matter, just find it a weird creative choice.
