Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Director Rubbishes 2030 Release Date Claims

This will almost certainly come out soonest 2030 =L

No idea how big the studio is but it was only formed in July. I'll be impressed if he can get it done in 4 years.

Would be happy if I was wrong though.

Can't blame people for speculating about games that have been announced too early into their development.

@AdamNovice I agree it's feasible but it will need the entire development to run very smoothly with clear set focus which seems quite rare in video game production.
I wish them the best of luck in achieving it.

@TheFakulty That project was given to Saber Interactive who stated a while ago that it is still being worked on but very little is known about it's current state.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan. But also a huge gamer. I know what’s coming out before then: The Witcher 4, Intergalactic, Crimson Desert, etc. So yeah, drop it in 2030 so I have time to play all that’s already on the table. I can wait.

If it ends up being developed pretty efficiently, I could see maybe mid/late 2028 as an optimistic outlook. The studio being a year old isn't that much of a factor if they've been working on the game for the bulk of that and are on the ball, and a four-year development cycle is a reasonable window. Though, again, with smooth development.

Most likely, I expect mid 2029.

If it starts pushing to 2030 or beyond... things will have probably gone less smoothly than they'd like along the way. With a high profile project and presumably a budget to match, 6+ years would be heading into development hell territory.

(Stares and smiles at Beyond Good & Evil 2, the game that is definitely still coming out eventually in a good state and not at all lost to the void)

We've had numerous Star Wars projects announced without release over the past decade or so, so I still have doubts that this will even come out.

With all the will and motivation in the world, there's still no guarantee that the Disney or EA overlords won't drop it in an instant if it doesn't come together exactly as they want it and/or they find something else that feels like a better cash cow.

With how long game development takes, and the fact the studio was just formed, there's no way this game releases under 5 years.

I mean sure. He's the KOTOR and Mass Effect guy.

I could see...maybe 2028 earliest. But that's with typical western developer crunch included.

Starting a hype train with a trailer for a beloved franchise, at the GA's or any big event and the game is at least 4yrs off is just plain dumb. Maybe not 2030, but studio was just founded earlier this year. Its its truly AAA then its gotta be at least 4yrs.
