Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will release before 2030, according to the game's director Casey Hudson.

Following the RPG's reveal at The Game Awards earlier this week, a tweet from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier suggested it's still very, very far away from releasing since developer Arcanaut Studios was only founded earlier this year. The claim didn't seem to be based on inside information, but Schreier said a release year of 2030 seems like an "optimistic guess".

In response, Arcanaut Studios CEO and director Casey Hudson has played down the release window estimate. In a social media post, Hudson said not to worry about the rumours surrounding a 2030 release date. "Game will be out before then," he added. "I’m not getting any younger!"

Fate of the Old Republic is being pitched as the spiritual successor to the classic Knights of the Old Republic RPGs, with the director of those games and the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson, at the helm. It's a single player RPG featuring "innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat".

As part of the original reveal, Hudson said that while the project is still in "early development", he looks "forward to embarking upon this journey together, sharing more of what we’re doing as soon as we can". It's far out, but not quite as far away as 2030, claims Hudson.
