It seems certain that Fools Theory is making something for CD Projekt Red and it has most of their staff on it (unlike the Witcher 1 remake which is still very early with a small team). Considering they have lots of ex-CDPR staff who know the Red Engine it seems very plausible. Lots of questions about what it actually is though.
If it's coming this year it might not be too long before we find out.
For me, the biggest benefit of exclusives is that they give a developer the excuse to put quality above all else, even profit. The role of the exclusive is to bring people into your eco-system. The profit you make from an exclusive is not just it's own sales but all the potential extra sales bringing someone to your platform can bring. Plus the one platform optimization he mentioned helps with that goal.
It's just a sad fact that a huge amount of workhours were lost to the multiplayer project and it has cost Naughty Dog heavily this generation. The same is true of Bluepoint. I've watched enough behind the scenes documentaries on game dev to know that knowing precisely how much time is needed is very difficult. Fingers crossed this extra push (if true) has been enough to get them back to a confident place.
Everything he says about the project sounds promising except the AI bit, but as long as that remains purely for throwing out ideas that a human creative then iterates and improves on before going in the game it should be fine. I especially like that they want to go even more cinematic. I wish them well in expanding and becoming more efficient.
I'm curious how they are handling the two projects (earlier in the year they said they are working on 2). Are they planning slight overlap but concentrating mainly on one or working equally on both?
As much as I enjoyed Skyrim at the time, I think Bethesda has really struggled to evolve with time. I don't have much excitement for ES VI but would love for them to prove me wrong. Probably a few more years before we see anything anyway.
@Americansamurai1 I'm assuming he was working with a very small group whilst everyone else did Ragnarok but would have thought it became the main project since that shipped in 22. I'd like to think they might be getting close to having something to show. To be honest I'm happy for it to be a complete mystery until they are ready to show. It would be nice to get a rare surprise nowadays.
@ShadowofSparta The director of Anthem was Jonathan Warner. Casey Hudson wasn't even at the studio for half of Anthem's development time. Although I do believe it was Hudson who floated the idea of making a live-service game to EA.
@General-Foley fingers crossed they can find the right balance with this one. I'm sure it will be a fun game regardless but it will be great if they can master it again. I very much look forward to the CV and 0 remakes probably more than the new ones because of that balance.
@AdamNovice I agree it's feasible but it will need the entire development to run very smoothly with clear set focus which seems quite rare in video game production. I wish them the best of luck in achieving it.
@TheFakulty That project was given to Saber Interactive who stated a while ago that it is still being worked on but very little is known about it's current state.
I can see it working, the narrative switching between characters in the Revelation games worked well but I suppose the gameplay stays similar throughout in that. I just hope they don't go overboard with the action in Leon's sections. For me RE2 is still the benchmark for the perfect balance. RE4 is still great but I consider it already tipping slightly too heavy into action. I'm still hoping a few of the other original characters put in an appearance, even if we don't get to control them.
@Nalodart Not denying it achieved it in a single show. The article is purely talking record amount of wins. I just thought it interesting that BG3 has slowly crept close to the same amount.
By my 'research' Baldur's Gate 3 has overtaken TLOU2 and is only one behind E33 thanks to the Community Support award this year and last. If it somehow managed it next year it could tie.
I could have sworn the last I heard about Casey Hudson’s new studio was that the project had been cancelled or something.
The little information for this does sound good though 🤞
EDIT: Looking into it, the studio he formed after leaving Bioware did indeed close down at the end of 2024 after their project failed to get enough funding. So this must be another start from fresh and means this must be barely more than an idea at this point.
@ShogunRok In that case, fair enough. So a bit like the early Cyberpunk or Wolverine vids just an announcement of what they are working on. It would certainly be the right scale of project to warrant the publicity.
Hearing about the addition of the loot system of the more recent games dampened my enthusiasm for this but will reserve judgement until we see exactly what it's changed.
@MrPeanutbutterz @Morzy I obviously didn't make my point clear because gameplay is irrelevant to my point. I totally understand you don't need flash graphics to be fun. The point is you can make the game more visually appealing with very little effort and zero effect on gameplay. It is made with these visuals purely to evoke an era, for nostalgic feelings.
I'm not judging or saying it shouldn't be done. People clearly like it so that is all that matters.
@LifeGirl Yeah nostalgia was the only reason I could think of. I mentioned the silent movie analogy as it's about technical limitations. Once they knew how to make films with sound there was no reason to make a silent movie as it wasn't an artistic choice. Rally games looked like that at the time purely due to technical limitations. I suppose I just underestimate how appealing nostalgia is as a selling point. It clearly works or they wouldn't make them.
It doesn't really matter, just find it a weird creative choice.
Am I the only one who finds games made like this nowadays a little odd? I get making a simpler looking game is easier/cheaper and I understand it can still be fun. It just feels a bit like making a black & white, silent movie now.
@Lucid_dream_14 That would be an amazing addition but I don't see it as likely. I don't believe Virtuos' knowledge or expertise with the Red Engine is enough to achieve something that big.
If it is anything for the game, I would imagine it's similar to their last update.
@ShogunRok I'm imagining that this trilogy will definitely feel like three chapters to one big story and will all play very similar. Plus that the 'pre-production' for parts 2 & 3 are kind of baked into the 6 or 7 years it will take for the first game to complete. Plus the studio is bigger than it was.
While I'm arguing the case for how it could be believable to do, I wouldn't be remotely shocked if they don't achieve it of course.
I don't think it's too absurd to imagine. The six years doesn't start until the first one releases and I imagine the next two will be highly iterative and may be already roughly written/planned out. So that's 3 years per game. 'Hearts of Stone' and 'Blood and Wine' were both out within a year of The Witcher 3. Whilst not full games they were fairly meaty experiences, especially the second. Not saying they won't end up taking longer but don't think it is an outlandish goal.
@Shinnok789 Sorry it's not my picture. It's from the post @Weebleman linked. I just thought it was a clear enough picture to show everyone. There is also a quick video on there.
Nothing about the sculpture screams Fallout or Half-Life for me. There lots of skull faces with one in armour, an alligator/croc and a bear head. It certainly seems more fantasy leaning.
I don't think we see anymore from this until it's close to release and any footage is a fair representation of the final product. Maybe next years awards at the absolute earliest.
@LogicStrikesAgain You've summed up pretty much how I would regard it. A big part is the gen not remotely being over yet and we tend to forget how many of the great PS4 games came near the end of that generation. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of this generations best games are coming in the next couple of years.
Maybe Grub, Moriarty etc should all place a large bet on it if they are so sure on their 'superior' insider information. Can't we just enjoy a reveal when a studio is ready to do so without all this need to show you know stuff?
Anyway. I look forward to seeing some gameplay whenever it is ready to be shown, Naughty Dog have never disappointed for me.

Had to have a second look at the gingerbread one to realise which studio it was.
I like the art style of the Santa Monica one best.
We have to find out what Corey is making in 2026 surely?

I wonder if Legacy of Atlantis does very well that they follow what Capcom had done with RE and do more remakes between new titles.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Most Anticipated PS5 Games of 2026?
Tomb Raider
Resident Evil
GTA 6
Wolverine
Marvel 1943
Tricky to say with the final one as not seen any gameplay yet.

No idea how big the studio is but it was only formed in July. I'll be impressed if he can get it done in 4 years.

Fable is probably the only Xbox game that has the potential to be something I would be interested in if it comes over to PlayStation.

Re: Expedition 33 Breaks the Game Awards Record for Most Gongs in a Single Show
@Nalodart Whoops my bad. I read the article but clearly only glanced at the title.
I still find it interesting a game could continue racking up wins in following years but yes I was wrong to mention it in this context.

Seriously though, surprise video game reveals are an endangered species.
