Still got my PS4 Pro 72xx series with 1TB internal SSD under the TV.
If anything, it seems about as quiet as the PS5 for the majority of games. And I still prefer the DS4 on looks and ergonomics.

Bought a 2nd hand, mint condition disc-drive fatty for £344 with a year's warranty
Came with a 1TB hard drive expansion that someone must've forgotten to take out. Seems better value to me!

It was a fail for me as soon as I realised there was no split screen couch multiplayer.

@DualWielding In order to use your DS5 on a different console (say, a friend's one) you have to unregister it from the your console and then pair it on the other console which is a right royal pain in the rear. Hopefully it'll make it work like the PS4 where you just plug the controller in and press the PS button?

Looks like a cross between TrackMania Turbo and Motorstorm, so I'm interested!

Either way, don't bother with Everybody's Golf, at least yet. It is terrible with weird characters and badly lagging gameplay. I'd stick with "Easy Come, Easy Golf" which is a much superior product and much closer to actual Everybody's Golf.

As with all PlayStations ever since, I always wait for a year or so after launch for all the teething troubles to get ironed out by early adopters.
Traded it in eventually at my local GAME store when the GT3 pack for the PS2 arrived. The PS1 was great until the PS2 arrived and that really was the GOAT!

Even the PS Store still has the PS4 version listed!?!?

@dodgykebaab I always thought that the PS4 disc drive was missing a laser, same as the 5? Is that not the case?

If I was being cynical, I'd suggest that New Sony won't allow backwards compatibility as they want to resell you the games you already own rather than allowing you to use your disc.

Well, I've played numerous Everybody's Golf games, including the PSP and Vita versions, I can honestly say this is the worst one of the lot.
I'd rather be playing EG2 on the PSP or "Easy Come, Easy Golf" on the Switch because they're much better than this travesty. I hope a LOT of improvements happen - otherwise it'll be a trade-in at CEX.

I'll reserve judgement until I see the trailer but having paid actual money to see the last Indiana Jones film at the cinema, I'm not exactly brimming with confidence.

I hope this will get several patches to improve a lot of the negatives about frame rate. If all else fails I've still got Everybody's Golf 2 on the PSP!

The more Sony keep increasing the price of the PS5, the more chance we have of the PS4 hanging in there until 2026 and beyond. There is no reason for the PS5 to be increasing in price at this time in its lifecycle (apart from corporate greed).

The PS6 will launch and still the trusty PS4 old-stager will be getting releases.

I still find it weird that the PSP could be connected to a TV (PSP 2000 onwards via a component cable) but the Vita didn't feature a video out port.

I bought the PS, PS2, PS3 and PS4 about a year after they'd been out because I wanted to play some of the games that had appeared.
I bought the PS5 on a case of FOMO and to be honest, I could have just left it at the PS4 Pro.
The never-ending stream on remasters/remakes and other such tiresome titles eventually coming out just leaves me confused - the PS3->PS4 remasters were needed as the architecture was totally different but PS4>PS5 is just plain stupid.
By all means patch an extra frame rate boost in there but remastering a game which in some cases looks worse than the original when BC is available is causing me to see if I can be bothered to 'upgrade' to the next PlayStation.

Control was one of the unexpected highlights of the PS4 era (played superbly on the Pro) and I'm excited to see what they have in mind for the sequel.

@Scottyy I think anyone who's been around in the Playstation ecosystem for a while misses the 'old Sony'.
Post-Layden, PlayStation seems to have become a terrible corporate wall of suits with all the 'fun' of the earlier generations surgically removed.
It'll be interesting to see if this shift to a "community-based engagement business” will have any positive effects. I, sadly, suspect not.

I bought my first Playstation because of the games on that platform. Same applied to the PS2, 3 & 4.
PS5 was the first bought on the 'fear of missing out' principle and to be honest, I could've not bothered as this gen has been so disappointing.

Don't think there are any? The base game contains all the main quests and areas plus 1 or two of what were expansions including Morrowind , I believe.
Honestly, if you get into it, the base game will keep you playing for months.

@rjejr I suspect that the PS4 has probably cleared 120 million now but only Sony will know the total number or units manufactured (which is why some Nintendo Switch owners seem angry about the PS2 'moving goalposts' by clearing 160m according to ex-Jimbo).

During the early years of the PS5, didn't Sony order another 1 million PS4s to top up their console sales due to the PS5s being so restricted due to the supply of components post-Covid?

@11001100110zero I take it that it isn't good news that Sega have confirmed support (where the game allows) for the older consoles (Switch, PS4) for the next couple of years then?
Personally, I much preferred the PS4 era compared to the PS5 which only seems popular because it's standing on the PS4's shoulders and a game being on the PS4 as well doesn't mean it can't look good and be fun.

Interesting that the PS5 is going to have to sell half as many AGAIN in order to get near the actual sales for the PS4.
And in that time-frame, the PS6 will loom ever-closer over the horizon.

@Danbottomburp You can often pick up the base game for cheap on the Store, or about a fiver on disc, and then all you need is your PS+ connection - no other fees unless you want to buy some expansion zones.

LBP 1 & 2 (even the PS and Vita releases) were and still are classics - apart from the fact that Fony shut down the servers which was part of the fun.
The real kicker was that they shut down the final server (PS4 LBP3) shortly AFTER MM had uploaded all their textures, objects, game elements onto the server so creative types could create AND SHARE their own levels.

Hope David Smith, Mark Healey, Kareem Ettouney, and Alex Evans all find each other out there in the Imagisphere and come up with something imaginative to put some fun back into the PS5's library.

Performed absolutely fine on my PS4 Pro when I tried it but god, did the fans kick up to hurricane force levels!
All the hallmarks of badly optimised code as the game ran without issues and, lets face it, the graphics and gameplay were hardly pushing the CPU/GPU...

If it can run on the Switch, it can run (probably better) on the PS4 - this is a commercial decision.

@Jrs1 @nessisonett Whatever is left of Codemasters in these EA days, they could do worse than remaster F1 Race Stars with the new drivers and liveries.
It'd be a potential money grab too (appealing to the EA types) as they could release new tracks as and when and old drivers (Schumacher, Hill, Mansell, etc.) I seem to remember buying the all the extra tracks for the PS3 years ago?

Played this A LOT on the fatty PS3. Performance was janky at best but it was compelling with a massive map to explore. I think I might have finished it in light mode?

As @kevinm360 says, the Blind Guardian quest was funny and the in-game concert was fabulous!

It's odd how the first one never arrived on the PS or Xbox and Sacred 3 was an absolute turd.

I wonder if it'll contain the Ice & Blood expansion (that only got released on the PC)?

If it wasn't for the fact that I already bought Dragon Age and Diablo 4, it'd be OK.

As things stand, I won't be renewing my sub early next year and the only reason I subbed this time was because I had a few PS5 saves that I wanted to back up and Fony are too tight to allow the backup to USB like Sony did with the PS4 saves because it was a nice thing to do. That Sony is dead and the money grabbing Fony corporation are in charge now.

PS6 will have to bring something mind blowing as otherwise I'll be investing in a gaming PC next time.

Another terrible month - another souls-a-like (yawn) and 2 titles that aren't worth the electricity to download.

Steam numbers are a bit like Netlix viewing figures but only taking the US into account.
We've lost a few good series because the Americans "didn't get it" and we could be having the same issue if games are judged purely on PC players

Xbox's total lack of clear direction and the ever-tumbling number of XSX and XSS boxes sold means that more companies are going to prioritise PS5 and Switch 2 above the Xbox versions.

Anyway with "create bespoke character builds that fit your playstyle" then I'm mostly likely in.

Yay, now we just need everyone to go out and buy an 8K TV which has no broadcast-able service support....

@Robocod The Evercade console seems to be getting some more Amiga releases since they finished their emulator. Unfortunately we're not going to get the Amiga version of Sensible Soccer and have to put up with the inferior (but still fun) Megadrive version.

PS3 is probably still the best console to watch or listen to stuff on - the CD, DVD and Blu-ray compatibility is second to none - although the lack of Disney+ is an obvious omission (or happy omission dependent on your take on the Evil Mouse Corporation’s latest output) these days. Netflix, Prime and YouTube are still there

To be honest, I stream via our Freesat box or via the LG TV's own streamers.

@SMJ @nomither6 Yes, you can back up PS4 game saves onto a USB stick or whatever on the PS4. I have a mini USB stick in one of the Pro's front ports for that very reason.

But here's the real kicker; you can back up your PS4 game saves onto a USB stick on the PS5 but the option simply isn't there for the PS5 game saves.
Surely a free 10GB wouldn't kill Sony would it? Unfortunately, with $ony these days, it's all about the $$$$s

@get2sammyb I think we're looking at PS6 for enough grunt to emulate the wacky Cell - though some of the PC emulators are getting close but with much more horsepower and we'd need a UNIX port.

@tofuman86 Did the original PS4 have rear USBs? The Pro definitely has one rear USB as that's where my extended storage hard drive is plugged in but I don't remember the original having any?

The PS3 is still the only PS console to play CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray and yes, that was the console that got stripped of the good stuff the most. From my original fatty 60GB to the Slim I have now did seem like a bit of a downgrade. Still, could be worse, I could have kept the Super Slim (shudders!)
