As you can probably imagine, there's an awful lot of potential for Crimson Desert mods on PC, and there are already several hundred up for grabs on sites like Nexus Mods.
But one recent mod in particular is making headlines because plenty of players believe that it should probably have been part of the game to begin with.
The mod in question adds a full character creation suite, which can currently be accessed via the in-game barber (who only becomes available some ways into the adventure).
To be clear, the character creation system isn't completely fleshed out — you can't for example, sculpt a face from scratch — but you're still able to craft your own protagonist using hundreds of NPC assets, which include facial presets and hairstyles.

So, in short, you can transform main character Kliff into a custom female hero — with male assets apparently being added imminently. It even comes complete with reworked armour sets and female voice lines.
But as alluded, the introduction of this mod has caused fans to speak out against developer Pearl Abyss' decision to base the game around a set protagonist.
Kliff may have a satisfyingly gruff Scottish accent, but let's face it: he's barely a character. The guy barely speaks, and when he does, he's replying with one-word answers or brutally simple sentences.
The argument, then, is that players should have been able to just make a custom hero in the first place, because Kliff being Kliff matters very, very little across the vast majority of the game's storytelling.
Remember, Pearl Abyss was famous for its MMORPG, Black Desert, long before Crimson Desert landed — and that title's still got one of the most ridiculously in-depth character creation systems in gaming.
But instead, the Korean studio decided to stick with boring old Kliff for its single-player outing.
We are left wondering whether the popularity of mods like this will make Pearl Abyss at least consider additional character customisation options. The developer's pumped out a couple of significant updates already, so it feels like nothing's out of reach right now.
Would you want to play as a custom protagonist in Crimson Desert? Or are you Kliff's biggest fan? Spent way too long in the comments section below.
