Re: Talking Point: Would You Want a Steam Deck-Like Portable PlayStation?

sanderson72

1) call is PSP - everyone knew what it was and I got fed up of explaining what a Vita was
2) give it a decent price point so those of us with other commitments can afford it
3) make it backwards compatible with PS4/PS5 games

Thing is, the Vita was and, to a certain point, still is a cracking handheld - just the right size and still feels a lot more premium than the Nintendo/Fisher Price Switch Lite.
The main reason the Vita failed was because Sony put all their efforts behind the PS4 and crippled the handheld (looking at those stupidly priced memory cards) before stabbing it in the back.

@NoCode23 PS4 Pro is a classic piece of minimalist design.
Yes, folders, themes and the web browser still blow the PS5's woeful UI into touch.

@Almost_Ghostly XSX looks like a bin with an ashtray on top and the XSS looks surprisingly like the house alarm sounder we had at our old place.
They all look terrible, especially considering some past PS designs (PS3 super slim excluded).

To be fair, the Slim with the silver side plates on doesn't look too bad but I've got black plates on my fatty and although it still looks bad, it can at least blend in with the other furniture.

Re: Disgruntled PS5 Pro Owners Campaign to Disable Support After Slew of Shoddy Patches

sanderson72

@OldGamer999 That's my feeling from the SSD-equipped PS4 Pro to the PS5. Seems like a case of diminishing returns.

I think we have to face it that some games were designed in a particular way to be optimal(ish) on whatever hardware it was designed on and the Pro interfering with it is going to cause some side-effects.
PS4 Supersampling was simpler, rendering a 4K screen and then squashing it to 1080p for the display but this is dynamically tweaking stuff that maybe the game doesn't like.

Re: PS5 Pro Image Quality Issues Reported for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

sanderson72

@Medic_alert I delayed getting the PS3, PS4 and PS5 by (at least) a year so the early adopters could do all the bug reporting before I jumped in.

Admittedly, the PS3 went through a tricky phase with the PS Store going on line with untested firmware updates trashing the hard drive.
Conversely, the PS4 has been as sweet as a nut (and the Pro actually improved all games!)
The PS5's roster of exclusives has been disappointing, but the main problem is the joke Driftsense controllers which still break, whereas the DS3 and DS4 controllers I have are still going strong after over a decade of far more use.

Re: Review: PS5 Pro - An Impressive Yet Inconsistent Upgrade

sanderson72

@colonelkilgore That's the trouble - it's still a PS5 - albeit with go-faster stripes.
It is, in many ways, going to be held back by the base console with a few extra bells, whistles and frames.
One reason I'm holding out for the PS6 as that should get all the advances that the Pro might be able to do but as a consistent base on a console that will do it.
The PS4 Pro offered some very useful quality of life improvements over the base one but for PS5 Pro, we'll have to see what support it gets outside of the first party studios.

@RoomWithaMoose "Third best PS3-born Sony IP after inFamous and The Last of Us."
Nathan Drake and Sackboy say 'Hi'.

Insomniac are under the thumb of their Sony overlords so won't produce anything like Killzone any time soon.

Would love to see a Motorstorm trilogy but with Evolution now part of Codemasters, not going to happen I guess. Talking of Evolution, got my disc copy of Driveclub through the other day and yes, the patches are still live on the PS4 server. That game just doesn't look or feel 10 years old.

@PuppetMaster Remember that the PS3 stores some game data on the hard drive and reads some back from the disc - could it be a worn out/corrupted hard drive? Try the safe menu rebuild database option as a first step.

Glad our Slim is still going OK - only place to play Motorstorm, Modnation Racers, LBP 1 & 2.

Re: LEGO Horizon Adventures Sets Odd Precedent, Lacking PS5 Pro Support

sanderson72

@HonestHick No reason why it can't run on the PS4 - it's just Guerrilla Games and their Sony overlords dictating that it must only run on the PS5 as they can't be seen to support their other current console(?). Plus, as the DS4 lasts a lot longer than a fruit pastille, they'll hopefully get to sell even more Driftsense controllers.

Re: PS5 Slim Price Drop Confirmed, $380 Until 24th December

sanderson72

@Deoxyr1bose Yet in about a year they'd RAISED the price by £30, for all regions apart from their home country of the USA.
Claimed exchange rates for the hike yet they've still not lowered it by £30 since the rates have become more favourable.
Profiteering bar stewards.

Also, why get a new slim without disc drive when you can get a reconditioned fatty with disc drive direct from Sony for virtually the same money?

Re: PS5 Slim Price Drop Confirmed, $380 Until 24th December

sanderson72

@ChimpMasta Not sure if the Slim uses any less electricity than the end-of-line fatty (1216?) as the internals are, from what I gathered, very similar apart from the 1TB storage compared to the 825GB on the Tub o' Lard.

I traded in my old Pro and, having been very disappointed with the PS5, bought a mint, end-2019 7200 series Pro (COD packaging) for £160 which is still very quiet.
Shoved a 1TB Crucial SSD inside and it still has pride of place under the TV unit in the lounge. PS5 has black plates and hides upstairs in the spare bedroom so as to not scare the locals.
