Sony is poised to increase the price of the PS5 this week, meaning its cheapest option will retail for $599.99/£519.99 from 2nd April onwards.

That’s considerably more than the console cost at launch, and while inflation is a factor to consider, it runs in contrast to the past 30 years of gaming hardware, where prices have generally come down over time.

To recap, here are the new prices:

  • PS5: $549.99/£479.99/€549.99 > $649.99/£569.99/€649.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition: $499.99/£429.99/€499.99 > $599.99/£519.99/€599.99
  • PS5 Pro: $749.99/£699.99/€799.99 > $899.99/£789.99/€899.99

In a recent poll, we asked, if you didn’t already own a PS5, would you buy one at these new price points?

Out of the near-2,000 fans who responded, just 13% said they think the console is “worth it” at its new prices in 2026.

To put that into perspective: 56% said they think the console is too expensive, while 27% responded they’d only consider it on sale.

The last few days have been filled with people grabbing a PS5 Pro before the price increase rolls out.

Sony’s supercharged system has had an unusual month, as it improved massively at the beginning of March with the introduction of PSSR 2. But it’ll soon retail for $899.99/£789.99, so many fans have taken the plunge now before it’s too late.

How do you think PS5 sales are going to fare for the rest of the year with these new price points? Let us know in the comments section below.
