Re: PS4 Will Still Get New Games in 2027

sanderson72

Sega have already confirmed ongoing support of PS4/Switch IF the game runs OK on the older hardware. That's the reason Sonic: Crossworlds has a PS4 & PS5 release.

It'd be funny if the PS4 (which I think is still being manufactured?) effectively outlasts the 5...

Just upgraded the fan and had the thermal paste replaced in my 7200 series PS4 Pro for about £50. All is quiet and I'd already upgraded the mechanical hard drive for a 6GB/s SSD and load times are not an issue - not as quick as the PS5 but not far off.

@nessisonett Have to agree!
We have 3 official DualShock 3s with my PS3 which are all still working fine.
We have 4 DualShock 4s all of which are working fine on the PS4 Pro.
We have 2 DriftSense controllers, one of which started going left constantly after less than a year of light use and I'm not entirely sure if the other one isn't exhibiting symptoms.

Re: Poll: Five Years of PS5 - How Would You Rate Sony's Console?

sanderson72

The differences between an SSD-equipped PS4 Pro and the original fatty PS5 have been surprisingly minimal, in my view.

The PS4's UI is superior and felt a lot more friendly than the PS5 UI which is still a car crash after 5 years of miserableness.

Remakes and remasters occupy a large chunk of the PS5's library and most of those weren't needed (remastered PS4 games - why?)
If it hadn't have been standing of the shoulders of the PS4 (still is to a certain extent), the PS5 would've sank without a trace. Some PS4 games run better on the PS5 and some don't. I'd add that the DS4 is still Sony's best controller for ergonomics and looks, way ahead of the uncomfortable and unreliable Driftsense after all this time.

I bought an original Playstation, PS2, PS3 and PS4 because there were games I wanted to play on those systems. The PS5 was the only console I bought on the FOMO and to be honest, I could've not bothered. It's an overpriced, overweight PS4 Pro+.
I'm hoping that the PS6 releases with some reasons to buy as otherwise, I could easily see myself jumping over to the PC. Either way, I'll happily sell the PS5/Tub o' Lard/fridge when the time comes but I'll keep the PS4 Pro to remind me of the good Sony days. I've still got a massive backlog to wade through anyway.

Re: You Can Buy a Fully-Fledged PS5 for the Same Price as a Less Powerful Xbox Series S Right Now

@Oram77 I was one of those that held off on the PS3 until it dropped in price, though the main push to get one was when Sony had just announced that the 60GB PS2 compatible model was being discontinued so I bought one for £350. The following week, all the stockists had none left just the underwhelming 40GB unit.

Until the overrated Tub o' Lard, the PS3 was the most expensive Playstation I'd bought. The original PlayStation was about £230 (with some games), the PS2 was £300 (GT pack), the original 'shiny top' PS4 was £300 & the PS4 Pro was £300 (both PS4s were in Black Friday sales)

Re: PlayStation CEO Pushed Through Cut-Price PS5 in Japan After Seeing System Slump Against Switch 2

sanderson72

@get2sammyb The PS5 has been a break even console pretty much since it was launched and the Slim is even cheaper for Sony to manufacture.
Given the ridiculous Sony-inflicted price hikes Japan has seen for the console, it's no wonder it's getting its arse kicked by the Switch 2.
Perhaps Sony could drop the price round the world that arbitrarily increased by £30 due to 'exchange rates' or some other 'we need more profits' excuse.

Re: Here's Why Sony Is Making a Japan-Specific PS5 Console

sanderson72

Sony could've just cut the price of the console, reversing some of the self-inflicted damage caused by their constant price hikes. Altering firmware and OS details will not reduce the price of a PS5.

I'm still waiting for Sony to reduce the PS5 by the £30 that they said was due to exchange rates but they've never price corrected down, money grabbing bar stewards.

Re: PS5 'In the Middle' of Its Lifecycle, Claims Sony

sanderson72

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy It's simply a case of recouping development costs - 120m PS4s out there so even if 2/3rds of them have also got a PS5 now, that's still a potential 40 million PS4s still going strong. SEGA recently said they they were continuing to develop for PS4 and Switch IF the game could run smoothly on the older platforms and why not?

As for the PS5's mid-life statement, it depends as to when the PS6 rears its head. No-one in their right mind will be buying a PS5 when that gets revealed.

Re: 'PS Portal Users Are More Engaged Than Non-Users': Sony's Hit Handheld Outperforms All Other Remote Play Methods

sanderson72

Still can't say I'm interested. I will however pay attention to the (hopefully) proper handheld version of the PS6.
Use my Vita (now sold), PSP and Switch when on holiday - sometimes the WiFi is sub-par and sometimes you're on a plane for a few hours at a time and under those circumstances the Portal would be an expensive brick.
Plus £120 a year for playing games that I already own? No thanks.

Re: PS2 Set to Remain King of Consoles as Nintendo Switch Sales Start to Stall

sanderson72

@rjejr No, the problem is that Sony can't be arsed to count after a console reaches a certain age.
It's a baffling state to be in but I think it's something to do with the numbers being so small (relative to what they were) that they don't report on them.
Anyway, I remember seeing the PS2 figures at over 157-158m units several years ago so I don't know why the Nintendoids keep dragging this 155m number from all the time (unless that was the point Sony drew their 'we can't be arsed' line)?
Even Wikipedia now states units sold at 160.63m and the PS Site also says over 160m (https://www.playstation.com/en-us/playstation-history/2000-ps2-psp/)

As I said, they've done exactly the same with the PS4, drawing a line under at 117m consoles even though it was, and still is, selling.

Re: PS2 Set to Remain King of Consoles as Nintendo Switch Sales Start to Stall

sanderson72

@rjejr @Rhaoulos Just because Sony stopped reporting the numbers doesn't mean it isn't selling any.

For the PS2, to be fair to Ryan (never thought I'd say THAT) he was quoting the count of the range of serial numbers of produced consoles which put the figure over 160m. Try buying a new, in box PS2 and you won't find any so they must've sold all 160m+.

Similarly, Sony said the PS4 topped out at 117.5 million, even though they had by that point ordered another 1 million units to cover off PS5 shortfall. I suspect the PS4 has easily cleared 120 million now.

Re: 'It Happens on PS5': New PlayStation Adverts Mark Five Years of PS5

sanderson72

"our players have shared their reactions of awe, excitement, and surprise at the extraordinary moments they’ve witnessed while playing PS5"

Still waiting...

Let's face it, all the PS5 adverts ("It happens on PS5" and what was the fake news other one? "Alive on 5"??) have all been a bit crap. And is it just me or do you find yourself filling in 2 letters before the "It" too? Sh.

Still not every generation can have "4 the players".
