Wy does this game cost more than 90 USD in Japan for PS only? It's mind boggling. Even Shuhei Yoshida himself acknowledged that its price was way more than in other platforms. https://twitter.com/yosp/status/1431707207947538434
I'll buy it once the PS5 version is released. I'm hyped for the game, but I've been waiting for years, so a few more months means nothing. Also in that time the game will get some of the millions of bugs plaguing it squashed, se the wait will be worth it.
I wish they could sell the single player campaign and multiplayer as separate games. I'd really like to play the solo campaign, but I've absolutely no interest in the multiplayer, so I don't see myself paying for something I'll never play.
I got a Digital Edition and I’m (so far) extremely happy with it. The DualSense is awesome beyond words. It needs to be used to understand. It’s the best controller I’ve ever used.
As someone living in Japan, it does feel that Sony is completely relegating the country in favor of the US. As of now Sony is prioritizing the US in a lot of ways: from the moving of the headquarters, imposing US based censoring and restrictions on Japanese devs, planning events with US time in mind, putting more strength and resources on its western studios while basically ignoring its Japanese studios... So, yes, Sony is indeed neglecting Japan and this will be a big opportunity that Microsoft will take advantage of, although Microsoft needs to up its game here if they want to sell more (starting with doing a better job at translating the Xbox OS, because sometimes the Japanese translation doesn’t even make sense). Anyone saying PS4 did terribly in Japan is not entirely right. If you look at raw number, obviously they sold more in the US, but the US is three times as big as Japan, and if you look at market share instead of raw numbers, the difference is not that striking (not nearly enough of a difference to consider it a failure in the least)
I really don't like multiplayer at all (I don't like talking to strangers and the toxicity is sometimes over the top), but I've been playing Stories solo and I can say that I love it. The only problem is since this was designed to be co-op, I get my butt kicked most of the time, lol!! I might try some match matching with random strangers sometime... I don't do chat though so I hope chatting is not really required to play some missions.
I just want to clarify something: 4Gamer remarks about the air coming from the PS5 is not that “they could feel the warm air” but that the “air came out softly and it didn’t feel hot at all” There’s always something “lost in translation”
After watching the new PS5 preview on YouTube now I'm sure that the DualSense is the real game changer. Not the teraflops but the controller. Now, devs need to actually implement those improvements into their games. At the very least we can expect Sony's first parties to do it.
He'll be playing Astro's Room (just like Geoff Keighley did way back) so nothing of notice there... but I hope we can get a glimpse of the UI. If I'm honest, I was expecting Miles Morales or even Demon Souls, but I guess Astro's Room will have to do.
I'd rather have Vampyr than Farming Simulator 19 like we are getting in Japan... What a horrible selection for October... Farming Simulator, really? Because is farming season or what? Vampyr isn't available in Japan, but the could have gotten another more fitting game...
Why is everybody saying that he looks like a teenager? The old model looks older, yes, but the new one looks perfectly like a man in his early twenties... Nothing weird in how he looks.
@TheRedComet I always forget about data caps since we don’t have those in Japan (for home Internet, we still have them on mobile) That’s a fine reason to go physical. Still, my original point was that choosing between the disc (normal) edition and the digital edition makes no difference whatsoever on the amount of games that’ll fit on the SSD since you still need to install the same amount of data even with the disc. Some people seem to believe that physical games take up less room on the SSD, which isn’t true.
@JJ2 Not if it’s deleted. You can’t just insert the disc and play, you need to reinstall it again, which is no different as to download it again (if you have decent Internet, that’s it)
@rachetmarvel Why? There’s no difference between using discs or going 100%. You still need to install the full game on the SSD even if you use the disc so the problem is the same. Physical has no benefit over digital except the reselling value.
@3MonthBeef As long as I keep liking the games they do, then yep... Just as you said. Applies to 99.9% of the people who buys video games (regardless of platform), you included probably.
I really dislike Sony as a company. I hate most of their decisions and what they've turn into in the last several years... BUT I love PlayStation games and so, I keep getting its consoles. I managed to preorder a PS5 Digital Edition and don't regret it, but I don't have any games for it. Not at launch and not for the foreseeable future either. I will get Miles Morales... but that isn't really a PS5 game, is it? So, my new PS5 will become just a Cyberpunk 2077 machine for the foreseeable future. I'm selling my PS4 Pro so I guess that my PS5 will become my new "PS4" lol 2021 looks promising though...
@Areus What censorship? CERO is one of the most strict and obnoxious rating boards in the world, specially for western games. The Witcher 3 is heavily censored in Japan, from naked scenes to gory scenes. Cyberpunk 2077 is already being censored, though we don't know yet to what extent. On PC, where CERO has little influence, things are a bit better, but on consoles CERO do as they please.
@Shillll Japan has very weird laws. In this case that law is acting against the very thing is trying to protect. I also find weird then, that Cyberpunk 2077’s next gen update will be free. Sometimes I really hate being a gamer in Japan. Between censorship and stupid laws we always get the inferior versions of everything.
Just to clarify something, The Witcher 3 next gen upgrade is free IF you’re not in Japan. CD PROJEKT RED is offering the upgrade free for everyone except us living in Japan. Why the discrimination? That’s anyone’s guess. I myself would like to know the reasons very much.
@doctommaso Because I like cartridges and the inside art that most Switch games have. Also because —most times— there’s no need to install the games, except when the game doesn’t come complete. With PS4 games you need to install the games on the HHD anyway which kind of makes the disc redundant/useless. That’s the reason I decided to go digital with PS4.
That’s unfortunate for those who want physical. For me, except Switch games, I haven’t bought a physical game in ages (in fact all my PS4 games are digital) so I’ll happily get it digitally on day one. This game looks too lovely to wait.
@Weebleman I think we should assume that any game that gets an increase in price on new hardware won't be available as a "smart delivery" upgrade.
For starters, as far as I know, all points to NBA 2K21 having separate versions for PS4 and PS5.
I'm afraid most games won't opt to offer the free upgrade that Smart Delivery promises (or whatever is called in PS5 if it even exists)
Luckily Cyberpunk 2077 does offer a free upgrade and it doesn't have an increased price. For now, that's all I want.
Edited: In Japan (at least) Cyberpunk does cost around $10 more than other games (even though we will be getting a heavily censored and down-toned version).
I’ll be getting the digital edition (unless the price difference is negligible or there’s no availability).
I don’t own a single physical PS4 game and I don’t own or even rent Blu-rays so paying more for a disc drive I will never use is a waste.
Since with physical games you still need to install the full game on the hard drive anyway I think that discs are actually a useless nuisance and went full digital with my PS4.
I almost never buy game on release day (except notable exceptions) so I buy most of my games when they’re on sale anyway.
For me, all of the above are enough reasons to buy the digital PS5 and save a bit of money.
The only disadvantage I see is not being able to trade in games I’m not interested in anymore.
@InsertUsername Hey look! It looks like Sony wants you to buy a “remastered” Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5! A remastered two years old game... But I was exaggerating... wasn’t I? Oh well ¯(ツ)/¯
@InsertUsername Do you really love my comments? That’s so nice of you, but you don’t really need to. I mean, different people, different opinion and all that stuff... I have nothing at all against remasters and remakes (I’ve bought not a small number of those), but I still stand by my comment. Thank you very much.
This event was't any different form the Xbox event last month. Just a bunch of CG trailers with some short gameplay sprinkled here and there. Absolutely nothing that really looked Next Gen, just more of the same. It wasn't up to the hype at all. I don't dislike the design though. It's nice to have something a bit different.
Just a personal opinion, but as things stand right now there is absolutely no reason to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X at launch.
And seeing the Demon's Souls and GTA5 stuff just made me realize that next gen (on PS5 at least) is going to be yet again a parade of remakes and remasters all over again. I'm pretty sure we can forget about getting upgraded versions of games like Smart Delivery is promising.
I'm very, very disappointed but I understand Sony's move.
Perhaps now it's not the time. I don't even think that releasing new consoles in 2020 is even a good idea seeing how screwed the world is right now (and only looking to get worse, it seems...)
Anyone with an ounce of decency is distraught by what is happening even if it directly affects just the US (and I say "directly" because, in truth, racism is present everywhere, even whites suffer it, we all do), BUT let's be honest, Sony's decision was purely based on business. They even said that themselves: "we want to stand back and allow more important voices be heard"
Why go on with an event that could be drowned among all the other news that'll choke the media that day? The event wouldn't have the effect that Sony wants it to have. They want all eyes on them and right now, that's just not possible.
So, it is a very understandable decision but a purely business based one. I appreciate their decision but I won't give them credit that they don't deserve.
We can wait, there are more urgent matters at hand. The problem is that this wait is not going to be "a few days". Things are going to be hot for the foreseeable future.
I will definitely buy it, but I’m not sure it’ll be at launch. I had to chose between TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima, and I decided to go with the later. And after that is Cyberpunk 2077 on September so TLOU2 will probably have to wait until Christmas or maybe sometime next year... I’m finding the gameplay a bit too brutal for my tastes... I don’t know... or I just might buy it on launch and worry about the credit card bill later...
To Sony, PS+ Japanese subscriber’s money isn’t as valuable as the rest of the world’s.
Every time they offer 3 “free” games, is only 2 for Japan with the third getting just a discount. It happened with Bioshock Collection and now again with CoD WWII.
For us in Japan, PS+ is same price with less value.
Something new that isn't a sequel or a remaster of an old game.
I want HZD2 and the next God of War or Spider-Man just like everyone else... but I really think that Sony shouldn't rest of their laurels and take success for granted limiting themselves to the easy dollar.
We need original games much more than we need sequels!
Shouldn't they be suing the developer instead? Apple and Google are just the stores... I guess that they're trying to do is to stop the game being sold outside China, since the developer is a Chinese company so there's not much they can do. I don't see any other reason why they should sue Apple and Google instead.
@nessisonett Sadly, the lip synching takes away all the authenticity. Listening to the models speaking Japanese while their lips move in English feels so unnatural and distracting. But at the same time playing the game in English will feel weird... I'm not sure how I'll end up playing it. Sucker Punch is not a Japanese company and I'm curious (nervous?) about how they handled the world and characters. We'll see how they handle cliché stereotypes and such soon enough.
I’m still happy with what I saw and will be playing and enjoying the game but I have to agree that this game is just a carbon copy of the recent AC games with a Japanese coat of paint applied.
The Japanese voice over is also something I’m disappointed with. I mean, the voice acting might be top notch, but the lips move to the English audio and as such are out of synch with the Japanese audio. I find that way too distracting and unnatural, and that’s precisely why I always play all games and watch all movies in their original language.
Everyone here takes for granted that the sequels to God of War, Spider-Man or Horizon Zero Dawn will be awesome... Well, we don't know that. Nobody knows that.
They might end being even better that the previous games, who knows, but the opposite is also very possible. That the previous games were good doesn't mean that the sequels will be good automatically.
Better keep your expectations on check until you actually see something about said games.
If Sony puts all its strength behind sequels, that will be bad for the platform in the long run. Resting on their laurels and not taking risks with new and original games is bad to us all at the end of the day.
So, Sony please give us great sequels by all means, but also interesting new IPs.
@Agramonte I agree, but it should be said instead: "anyone with a good, expensive gaming PC can skip Xbox this gen".
To get visuals and performance akin to those offered by the Xbox Series X, you'll need to expend three or four times the price of that console... Not everyone is willing (or able) to do that.
That's what's good about consoles, their quality/price ratio is much, much higher when compared to PC.
Edited: Made the wording clearer (I need to improve my English, lol)
@Octane Importing in a good option, though I would rather go digital. Maybe trying the US store might be a viable option? I don’t know I’ll have to check it out if the game ends up being too censored.
No. Not here in Japan. In the world’s most harsh country regarding censorship we will get a watered down, heavily censored version. And to be clear, the lack of genitalia’s customization in Japan is the thing that worries me least. After CERO is done with the game I fear we’ll end up with a very different game than the rest of the world.
This month, the games offered in Japan are very different. 英雄伝説 閃の軌跡 The Legend of Heroes: Thors Military Academy X-Morph: Defense Not too good either but I think better than Farming Simulator...
@ShogunRok And I'm glad for it! I never liked Assassin's Creed games until Origins, and I'm playing now and loving Odyssey so I hope Valhalla is closer to those games than to the earlier ones.
@Dreman99 I think it's a given that this game (and probably most other games for a couple of years) will be on PS4. It wouldn't be wise to ignore a 100+ million install base.
That’s actually very good news!
Now I wish they could tell us if newer games like TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima will get a treatment similar to Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One (which will get a free upgrade to Series X) or not.
I’m talking not about a simple boost in framerate and resolution like it’ll probably be, but a real upgrade that will take advantage of all PS5 bells and whistles.
I was going to trade in my PS4 Pro for a PS5 on day one... but now I’m not so sure. I’m definitely getting a PS5 but now I think it’ll probably be two or three years down the line after there are actually games worth having and Sony sorts out the backwards compatibility.

Re: The Medium, Scorn to Skip PS5 for Now
@Agramonte I agree, but it should be said instead: "anyone with a good, expensive gaming PC can skip Xbox this gen".
Re: You Can Customise Your Genitals in Cyberpunk 2077
@Octane Importing in a good option, though I would rather go digital.
Maybe trying the US store might be a viable option? I don’t know I’ll have to check it out if the game ends up being too censored.
Re: You Can Customise Your Genitals in Cyberpunk 2077
Re: PS Plus May 2020 Reveal Has Been a Disaster, One of the Worst Received Months Ever
This month, the games offered in Japan are very different.
英雄伝説 閃の軌跡 The Legend of Heroes: Thors Military Academy
X-Morph: Defense
Not too good either but I think better than Farming Simulator...
Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Launches on PS5, PS4 in Holiday 2020
@ShogunRok And I'm glad for it! I never liked Assassin's Creed games until Origins, and I'm playing now and loving Odyssey so I hope Valhalla is closer to those games than to the earlier ones.
Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Revealed, Cinematic Trailer Coming Tomorrow
@Dreman99 I think it's a given that this game (and probably most other games for a couple of years) will be on PS4. It wouldn't be wise to ignore a 100+ million install base.
Re: Rumour: PS Plus May 2020 PS4 Games Leaked, But Source Is Shaky
For what is worth, I hope those are not the games.
Never cared much for horror games, and Dark Souls is one of my most loathed games ever so...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 316
Animal Crossing on Switch
RDR2 (maybe a bit of AC: Odyssey too) on PS4
Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Will Play Overwhelming Majority of All PS4 Games, Improved Framerates and Higher Resolutions on PlayStation 5
Re: Poll: Do You Plan on Buying a PS5 After Sony's Deep Dive Video?
I was going to trade in my PS4 Pro for a PS5 on day one... but now I’m not so sure.
I’m definitely getting a PS5 but now I think it’ll probably be two or three years down the line after there are actually games worth having and Sony sorts out the backwards compatibility.
