GTA 6 Ultimate Edition and More Detailed Ahead of Pre-Orders Going Live

The level of nickel and diming for the biggest entertainment product of all time is genuinely pathetic. They are locking whole shops behind editions. This is setting a terrible precedent.

Locking the cosmetics shops behind the ultimate edition is probably a slight better way of doing it than selling each skin separately.

Locking shops behind a paywall is a scuzzy move from an increasingly more scuzzy company. And the no disc thing? I could go on, but it’d just be old man yells at cloud time.

My plan was to buy this second hand, as with recent Rockstar news (union busting etc.) I didn’t particularly want to give them any of my money… not that it’ll make any difference, it’ll still be the biggest selling piece of media in the last decade.

Ah well, we’ll see how long I can hold out before Rockstar win this round 😄

I hope that those who purchase GTA6 do have playing. It definitely looks like it will be a lot of fun

If there's no physical version, what the hell is the point of pre-ordering early? Are they going to sell out of digital copies? Ridiculous.

Crazy to see so much being locked out behind a paywall from the already steep price standard edition.

Walling off content for the single player game is such bullshizzle. I was a maybe on picking this up at launch but it can wait. I know it’ll sell millions but I just couldn’t care less if they’re going to behave like this.

@roguepanda88 there are only so many numbers so the codes might sell out. It costs more if they start using Roman numerals or some kind of bartering system.

Now that's realistic, you start off broke so you can't have those fancy items in the beginning.

That's a lot of pointless guff for a not inconsiderable amount of money. Always baffles me who pays for this stuff and more interestingly, why.

I want to customise my playthrough, but I don't want a bunch of random unlocks. Like, I want to steal and mod the cars I want as part of my own story playthrough, so I will need the shops for that, but I don't want a garage full of random DLC cars as well. Let's see how it is implemented, I guess. But locking customisation kind of sucks

So, $80 for somewhere between 85-95% of the singleplayer experience.

Or

$100 for the true singleplayer experience.

@Ravix Pretty sure there will be tons of customization in the base game. I think these extra shops will be just to get these extra ones, there will still be shops in the game. Well, I'll be shocked if it's not the case.

That’s an awful lot of single player content locked behind a paywall. Shops too, genuinely outrageous stuff. They don’t need to do this, it’ll sell more than anything else ever has.

@OmegaStriver I'd say it's 99.5% of the single-player experience. It seems like $20 extra for 500 customizing choices as opposed to 450.

Admittedly hard to say for certain at this point.

@BearsEatBeets hopefully. I'm not averse to getting even a collector's edition which there seems not to be at the moment, but maybe they could be clearer in what the base game does get away from these specific shops.

So basically the real cost of the game is 100, but for 80 you can buy GTA6 lite.

I like how people are mad at Rockstar for just building what idiot consumers will pay for.

@Ravix yeah there isn't really enough info yet to determine how valuable these extras are compared to the base game.

One-Eyed Willie's is a cool name but without knowing exactly what it sells I can probably go without.

Of all the stuff mentioned it's actually the general pre-order stuff that seems most appealing to me. At the moment I'm leaning to just getting that about a week from release to pre-load. No point getting the 'physical' now.

@BearsEatBeets unless there's a map in the box, then it's best to get physical/digital code. But yeah, no real reason to pre-order anything, that isn't a limited edition, until a week or so before. It could still be delayed, too, as they aren't commited to discs haha 👀

@For-Kier It’s the sad truth, as much as we complain the Ultimate Edition will be the most sold game on the PS Store within hours.

@Ravix No evidence for it but I wouldn't be surprised if Rockstar do a proper physical edition (maybe collectors) several months after release.
They do love to get people to double-dip if they can. So no mention of it until a while after release.

They do have more control of everything now the release all digital but I don't see another delay happening.

@nessisonett They don't NEED to do this, but they're going to. Because Take Two having the best selling game of all time that has made BILLIONS of dollars isn't enough; they need to ensure this game makes more.

I look forward to playing this game on the PS8 in about 20 years. Yeehaw.

So you get a gimped version and and a normal version at $/€ 100 full release now we know the other reason why its digital only.

And the ultimate edition is just a way to see how far they can go selling you a gimped version.

This is another way to lower the bar you own nothing and be happy with it.

This is a $/£/€ 100 base version for the game and 80 for pay walling content like customisation and killing of the option to resell it. You pay more get less and no more ways to resell it.

I only see me mentioning a bunch of cosmetics used to sell a deluxe version is pretty much standard practise. I just believe the idea they are essential and the base version is lacking anything important is unfounded.

No disc makes this a no go for me at release. At least they're up front about no disc. There's still plenty of people that don't have access to high speed internet. I bought the physical version of Doom the Dark Ages, only to find it didn't include the game. It took me 2 days to download.

@Flaming_Kaiser Fair enough it is a bit more than cosmetics. My way of thinking is that for every weapon/vehicle/shop in this Ultimate Edition there will likely be magnitudes more in the base game. Thinking of how many of these things are already in 5, I think 6 will have much more.
I might be wrong of course, but at this point I don't feel like I will be missing out on much by not having those items (even if hunting for extra classic cars sound cool). Time will tell.

At the end of the day they have to make these things appealing enough for people to want to spend the extra. I would much rather this than the scummy 3 day early access to the game in the more expensive option.

Rockstar is now following Ubisoft precedent of having content exclusive to "higher" editions of said single-player games. Ubisoft did it for AC Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws of recent, and now Rockstar is doing the same and locking the Ultimate Edition only through Microsoft and PS Stores. Shame on Rockstar. It is not as if they are "starved of money", and expect gamers to support them by spending extra on the complete version. Devs like ShiftUp don't lock cosmetic items behind "paywalls". Even From Software doesn't do that.
