Poll: What Review Scores Would You Give Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden?

Replaying P3 and P4 has made me appreciate P5 even more because of how it refines the gameplay formula. They're still great games in their own right though, especially P4G.

I'd be very interested in knowing what new Persona fans think of 3 and 4 having only jumped in at 5.

For the games themselves I would also give them 8 and 9, Golden and Gravity Rush defined the Vita for me. The ports themselves get a 7 for not being the best available console versions of the games (no I'm not letting it go!).

I love the purity of Persona 3's formula. It still holds up for me after all these years.

IMO, Persona 5 had way too much blah blah blah. And control is taken away for (in game) weeks at a time while they spoonfeed the story bit by bit.

Persona 3 is a fun dungeon crawler with just enough dialogue and mystique to propel you forward. There's more freedom to approach each month how you want. And while I like a ton of plot in these games, Persona 3 is still excels for being sparser in this area and letting the gameplay speak for itself.

@ShogunRok I am such a person. Played 5 and now I'm 10 hours into 4.

I really like it so far. It's a little rougher around the edges and does feel like a step back in some ways, but the general blueprint is still there.

One part that really does feel quite a bit less fleshed out is the dungeons. I've only done the first but it feels way more generic than 5's carefully curated levels. Also, maybe it opens up more going forward but it feels slightly more restrictive in how many interesting places you can visit in comparison to 5. Still early days though.

Great game. Playing it on Switch since handheld is a great way to play these games. Definitely going to finish it.

@Jey887 Nice! Yeah, Atlus specifically set out to make the dungeons much more in-depth in P5 because they were criticised in P4. They're quite bland and repetitive — one of the game's only weak points in my opinion.

Glad you're enjoying it though, I really like how cosy Inaba feels as a setting compared to P5's big city life. Makes P4 still feel unique despite P5 doing most things better.

I'm pretty much in agreement with Push Square's official reviews.

It's an amazing series and honestly you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Too busy with MH Rise for now. How do they compare to Persona 5, as that's the only Persona I've played so far.

Replaying persona 3 + fes on ps3 wouldn't touch the portable version as it loses too much , especially without fes; feels like half a game . Not picked up p4 as have it in steam and vita may purchase it later in the year

i don't know the full extent, but apparently p3p remaster has heavily compressed audio and poorly upscaled (AI) backgrounds and characters. seems like a medicore port unless they patch all these issues. at least they didn't charge full price which is rather surprising from atlus. i played through p3 FES on ps2 many years ago and it was a great game. it has a darker tone when compared to p4 and p5 and arguably better characters than p5 in my opinion.

P4G is still my fav

Although my favourite character is in P3 (Aigis)

While I agree with the main portion of the game and changes made to make it run on PSP aren't fantastic, The Answer part of FES is literally nothing but grinding through dungeons, with a little bit of story to add here and there. I'd take being able to control party members in the main game, as well as the Female MC and her options, over the mindless grindfest that was The Answer.

There's always the rumored P3 Remake that might include the above. I do agree with people who talk about combining Portable and FES, though, since that's what Atlus should have done for a definitive edition, but that would have required a lot more work on their end.

Haven't played much of P3 but 4 Golden is an easy 10 for me

For me those type of games are perfect on a portable console, I have both on the Vita, I play it on the Vita.

I think I'd rather play fortnite

I’m absolutely loving P4G. After only getting into P5 because I had a lot of down time because of a bone marrow transplant, Persona means a ton to me. I played it at the right time and fell in love. P4G is fantastic as well. Not better than P5 since that’s near impossible. It’s still an amazing game- even with being spoiled about one major thing. Well worth $20! I’m only past the 4th dungeon yet it’s keep me staying instead of me taking a break. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Also- Nanako is the best little sister in gaming. Don’t come at me 😎😎😎

I love Persona 3 but the things lost in the portable version frustrate me, so I am only give it a 7/10 my lowest persona 3 version rating ever.

Story wise, imo P4G is better.
Gameplay wise, it's ofc P5.

I just hope Atlus does not take as long for P6 like they did between P4 and P5 ;(.

Don't know what it was but I couldn't get I to P5 story at all but still love 3 and 4 way more

@DaYdReAmEr86 I can totally relate. For all the awesome updates P5 did to the dungeon crawling and the…marginal tweaks to the battle system compared to P4G, P5 really takes away the control from the player too often and kinda “plays itself” a little too much. The visual novel elements are a little more invasive and even if it is a great game I hope in the future balance is restored.
