Steelbooks and statues are usually what get me to spread my.... wallet open. This is tempting, but the mask doesn't quite do it for me. Probably a physical deluxe edition will do it for me, if it's available.
Since it's being called a "remake" (and I know it's early and nothing is official), I hope that they'll infuse some good quality of life changes, and some small redesigns. The original game was great, but probably shows its age a little now. So some overhaul in a few places instead of just a shinier coat of paint would be great.
Please no. Those games were fun when I was a kid, but time has shown me they are just... not good. SA2 is slightly more forgivable but both have tons of issues. When replaying SA1 a few years back I found myself more frustrated than entertained.
So I’ve been on this hill for a while now, often bringing up Armored Core VI as an example, where Sony refuses to sell an almost 3-year old game for any less than $30, but physically, you can get it as low as like $12. I love digital but this is one thing I do not love, that’s for sure.
Also, I see the same counter arguments popping up, and in the interest of having safe discourse, I’m just curious. For the folks who keep saying “oh Sony doesn’t set the prices, the developer does” can you expound on that? Because I’m confused why Amazon or Best Buy can sell a game for $15 when the PSN store won’t go under $40 for digital. And no, in the case of Amazon, I am not including 3rd party sellers. Again, I’m just curious. It’s weird to think so many devs across the board are like “yes, charge more for our game digital, but give it out physically for less than the price of dinner to Best Buy customers.”
I want to... specifically, I want to play the first game. My only issue is all the infant imagery and weird, borderline body horror esque stuff put me off. Like one of the very first trailers for the second game had a shot that I think had the camera going through someone's body and there was a baby in there. That's a gigantic NOPE for me. I just find it uncomfortable and creepy.
So with that being said, I just don't know if the games are for me.
I am guilty of forgetting this myself. It's simple for me to forget since the combat almost appears that way (but much more impressive looking) and the camera angle/perspective harkens to souls instead of say like, a Devil May Cry where the camera tends to be closer.
"Simulator" is almost a dirty suffix added to a lot of games, I hate to say. For every PowerWash Simulator and Farming Simulator, there's a lot of cheap shovelwares out there branding as (blank) simualtor.
But if this is indeed a more substantial offering in the genre, you got my attention at least.
This is a really interesting question and now you got me struggling to remember a podcast/video from Second Wind (former Escapist people including Yahtzee Croshaw). Because they posed this same exact question and they only came up with like 1-2 examples.
If my curiosity gets the better of me and I go through some of those videos again, I'll update.
Edit: within a min of posting, I remembered one: Respawn. Former Infinity Ward (COD) developers have made good games with Titanfall and the Jedi games. They definitely mentioned 1 or 2 others though.
High hopes. BL3 I fell off earlier than I thought. Lots of good QoL updates but just enough fun stuff and etc. to keep me hooked. And yeah, the loot just never felt... solid.
The things they said they were doing and changing during the State of Play really all resonated with me. So I'm happy to give it another try for one of my overall favorite series. That said, if this just doesn't land with me, might be a "fool me twice" situation.
So is the Egypt tease from Ragnarok and subsequent rumors still a thing that might happen? Or was that all just gossip and it was really this game the whole time?
Either way, I'm open minded and curious to see how this is. I also had a thought. Initially the return to Greece idea soured me a bit, but then I thought... oh what if they do like an interquel kind of thing, and show how Kratos transitioned, character/personality wise from og Kratos to his current iteration and how he left Greece behind. That said, I remember how God of War III ended.... so maybe not? I honestly am not sure. Could be interesting.
Laughing that I thought I could play and 100% Remnant 1 and then move onto Remnant 2 before it left PS. I even bought the DLC for Remnant 2, thinking since the game was free, why not take advantage and just get the DLC. I started the first game in April I think, and then just got so caught up with other games... had no chance lol.
Also I'm legitimately excited for some DLC Vault Hunters for the first time since the Pre-Sequel. BL2 and TPS both had great DLC characters and I loved all of them, from Gaige and Krieg to Jack and uhhhhh.... Hammerlock's sister, who I definitely remember >_>
The cynic in me wonders if the execs at 2K wanted to try the $80 price but once Randy opened his mouth, they knew the backlash would have been SO bad, even worse than it would have been, so maybe they backed off.
Who knows. Either way I am excited and cautiously optimistic that it’ll be good.
Would be slightly more bearable if PS+ followed the lead of Microsoft (can't believe I'm saying that) and made more games available at launch. Sure, you get a Stray or Plucky Squire or the upcoming Sea of the Stars available at launch on PS+, and those are great games in their own rights, but a far cry from the heavy hitters.
That said, all of this just highlights how frustrating the current system and state of the industry is. $80 games, more DLC, games services that don't deliver for everyone. It's tough, man.
I kinda assumed that between the State of Play or SGF, Wolverine would show up again for a solid update. But it was a no-show. Not sure if that's cause for concern. Insomniac deserves a ton of faith though, so I guess we'll see. Feels weird to say since the reveal was like 3-4 years ago, but... just gotta be patient.
Pretty good overall. Have to assume they're saving Wolverine for Summer Game's Fest. If it doesn't show up there... could be a tiny bit concerning about what the status is on that game.
Oh yeah, Final Fantasy IX remake also. I hope we'll finally get something official on that. And the fact that the rumor has been long-going gives me a modicum of hope that maybe it's already far along in development and the release is pretty close. One can dream.
Looks like I agree with several others here: Wolverine almost certainly has to appear. Probably a decent length gameplay trailer. I feel like between that or the State of Play, it has to show up at one or both.
I hate feeling like I'm in the minority but his original comments--which made him look like a total smarmy jerk--have no more than a surface level effect on my buying plans. What I'm saying is, regardless of how much of an ass Randy is--and he is--I'm buying BL4 day one. $60, $70, $80, I don't care.
I can easily count on one hand the amount of games I'd be comfortable opening my wallet more for, and Borderlands is one of them. I wasn't in love with BL3 and I wanted to give this one a good look as a potential "make or break" for me with the series. The original gameplay reveal got me decently excited, so I'm there.
I want to keep supporting this franchise if it can right the ship with this entry. Just sucks the CEO is a bit of an idiot.
Friendly advice to all bargain hunters to use something like Deku Deals (I used to use psdeals but hated the ads) so you can see price history and etc. I saw a LOT of games I have wishlisted ping for me with this sale, but only a couple are at all-new lows in pricing. Others that are on sale have actually been cheaper in past sales, so I'm holding off on those.
Also, Forza being on sale is tempting but I am not in a rush to play that just yet. Also, is it true the Premium Edition has all the DLCs needed to get 100% trophies?
That PSVR default bundle is a crazy low price for Best Buy. I wanted to jump on that but looks like it's sold out for "new" condition, only available as Open Box, which... no thanks. $350 with everyone else I think matches the previous low.
Yeah, my friend did mention that too about the limited voice lines, and how that wasn’t exclusive to Joker. Definitely a shame in that regard, but I suppose it makes a good point when considering the remake.
So I just very recently entered the series with Persona 5 and liked it quite a bit. My friend keeps suggesting me to try Persona 4 because Johnny Yong Bosch voices the main character, and he’s one of my favorite VA’s. I heard the early remake rumors and said, “ok I’ll just wait for that.”
But if they really recast… everyone, then I don’t know if I would have the same exact level of interest. JYB doing a voice role is actually a decent factor for me.
I'm no economy expert but with that many in such a short window, wouldn't that in theory pit some titles against each other vying for similar demographics of sales? Like obviously each game might have their own audience and releasing at slightly different times means it's easier for consumers to pace their game spending on titles. But if any of them share the same genre, or similar gameplay and are coming out only months apart, that could mean one game poaching potential sales of another?
Idk, that's just a thought that comes to mind, but again I'm no expert.
Nice, enjoy. I think I might do the same since it seems clear Sony/whomever are not gonna let it drop below $35 anytime soon. It could be a Fromsoft thing since Sekiro is also never lower than $30 any sale and that game is even older. Weird that they set stricter limits on digital than physical.
The screenshot made me think this was one of the PS2 Gundam games and I got excited. I've been dying for a good Gundam game in the vein of those, but I also know those probably have not aged well at all.
I have probably commented on Armored Core like 5 times on this site so I won't keep saying the same thing ad nauseam lol. Just still hoping for the day that it might drop to $25 or lower digitally, but it's almost two years old, so maybe it's time to give up. Maybe a $15 physical copy is the way to go. Meh.
Sorry to hear that. I'm sure for some it was a change from the first two. For me, if I had not played Suikoden 3, I would never have played the first two. It's still one of my favorite PS2 era RPGs to this day.
3 was my introduction to the series so I will always have a soft spot for that game. The three protagonists and three story perspectives thing was a lot of fun, then how everything culminated in the end. Would love to to play that remastered.
The threat to drop it or change subscriptions is real, and one multiple people here have already made in the comments. For me, I've already played many classic titles available with Premium, but I have dozens and dozens more that I want to play, but haven't gotten to already. So in that regard, I'm getting my money's worth and it wouldn't make sense to change subscriptions for me.
Yeah, this month is a bit of a stinker, and it's a cause for concern, but switching might work for some, but not all.
The fact that the first game garnered a fair amount of praise from some Japanese devs is a good sign that Sucker Punch was already doing a respectful job. I have no doubt they have gone to even greater lengths with this one.
I’m just not sure I can keep going with this series. The plot is so convoluted and KH3 basically dropped Final Fantasy completely, which was a huge part of the novelty of the original games. As much as I enjoy the gameplay, it just hasn’t “grown” enough for me. The lore expands like a giant balloon every entry but the themes and general plot beats stay very similar. Sometimes it feels like Nomura is a genius and other times it feels like he is just plagiarizing himself constantly and just picking words like “darkness” and “heart” out of a hat when writing the stories.
Long story short, I love the series but unless this game is radically different, particularly in its goals as a narrative, I’m probably out.
As is too often the case, the only game I'm interested in is one I just bought recently. Sand Land. lol, oh well. That said, I heard Stalker is decent? A few of the others I don't know much about, so I can look into it.
lol was literally talking about this the other day. This is the reason why I haven't bothered to play FO3 or NV because they all suffer from a very similar issue.
Been a bit stubborn waiting for a stellar price drop (sorry). Prefer digital and it was lowest at $39.99. Honestly, for a $70 game that has clearly been a big hit, probably being a bit stingy.
But it might drop more now with this complete edition, but then do I just wait for THAT to drop in price? Aghhhhh.
So just to make sure I'm on the same page here. Unlike a normal PS5 disc which has most/all the data on it, and [i[generally[/i] has a long install from the disc, plus any Day 1 patch downloads if applicable, these games are coming with almost no data, basically meaning before the install, you still have to download the game first?
Yeah, I guess that does suck. I think Indiana Jones was my only exposure to this and thankfully I don't recall it taking overwhelmingly long to install. However, for gamers who buy physical specifically to avoid too many downloads (they either have very limited or no internet at times), this is a slap in the face for sure.
I very much want to experience Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but on PS3 they suffered from the same memory issue almost all Bethesda games suffered from, including Skyrim for most of its life. Basically the more stuff you do, the bigger the save file gets, and the more the game runs at a horrible frame rate, assets disappear, etc.
I would plan to trophy hunt these games to 100% including DLC, so the state of the games would almost certainly prohibit that. So I would love to see them get brought up to current standards.
Sounds like a somewhat fun and cozy kinda game to take a break from all the 100+ hour open world adventures I get caught up with. Might get it on a slightly better sale.
Oof, as a trophy hunter, that pains me. That said, I don’t like it when it’s disproportionate in the other way (i.e. nonstop silvers and golds). But yeah, a little more variety would have been nice, especially for so many. Might be moot though, because I’m not 100% sure this is a game I would be interested in? I’ll look into it.
I played an insane amount of D1. Not long after TFK released, I joined up with a clan and I played it every single day for more than a year. No joke. It was at that point, not long after Rise of Iron came out, that I felt I needed a break.
At that point, I figured there was no way I was going to play D2. And yet, a new online buddy of mine has been slowly warming me up to the idea of it, plus just a general reminiscence for the Destiny days. I might finally check it out, maybe, and this crossover definitely helps entice me more.
Probably gonna go with deluxe, but not 100% on that yet. Any big 1st party release (GoW, Spider-Man, etc.) I often gravitate toward the Collector’s but a statue is usually the big selling point for me. The mask here is cool but not really good enough for me to open my wallet more. So I’m ok passing on the Collector’s here.
The showcase definitely quashed a few of my concerns and got my hype back up. I really liked how they brought up a lot of Quality of Life changes to the series, especially ones spurred on by fan feedback, such as legendary drop rate and the value of those legendaries, loot dropping with a variety of parts, and more.
That showcase quieted a good amount of my concerns with the game. Raffa looks very interesting to me in particular. Don't even think I remember seeing that character in the teaser trailer.
This is a big entry in the franchise for me, in terms of my long-term relationship with the series. Probably put a good 1200 or so hours into Borderlands 2 between PS3 and PS4. TPS was also pretty good. BL3 made a lot of nice QoL changes but the endgame just couldn’t hold me as long.
So I’m hoping this will be a good step in the right direction. The initial reveal of the vault hunters appearances had me a bit worried, but I’m keeping an open mind.
SO EXCITED. Trailer looks gorgeous. Sucker Punch know what they're doing, for sure. A game like this would be worthy of my 500th Platinum. The timing should be pretty close (sitting at 473 right now).

As is too often the case, the only game I'm interested in is one I just bought recently. Sand Land. lol, oh well. That said, I heard Stalker is decent? A few of the others I don't know much about, so I can look into it.
Re: Oblivion Remastered Runs Worse the Longer You Play on PS5
lol was literally talking about this the other day. This is the reason why I haven't bothered to play FO3 or NV because they all suffer from a very similar issue.
Re: Stellar Blade Adds New Boss Fight, 25 Outfits in Complete Edition on PS5, PC
Aghhhhh.
Re: Reaction: Game Key PS5 Discs Are a Disgrace, and Sony Should Put a Stop to Them
So just to make sure I'm on the same page here.
Re: Poll: Which Bethesda RPG Needs an Oblivion-Style Remaster Next?
I very much want to experience Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but on PS3 they suffered from the same memory issue almost all Bethesda games suffered from, including Skyrim for most of its life. Basically the more stuff you do, the bigger the save file gets, and the more the game runs at a horrible frame rate, assets disappear, etc.
I would plan to trophy hunt these games to 100% including DLC, so the state of the games would almost certainly prohibit that. So I would love to see them get brought up to current standards.
Re: Mini Review: Little Kitty, Big City (PS5) - Forgettable Feline Sim Offers Short-Lived Fun
Sounds like a somewhat fun and cozy kinda game to take a break from all the 100+ hour open world adventures I get caught up with. Might get it on a slightly better sale.
Re: Age of Empires 2 Has One of PS5's Biggest Ever Trophy Lists, But It's 99% Bronze
Re: Destiny 2 Travels to a Galaxy Far, Far Away in Star Wars Themed Expansion on PS5, PS4
Re: Ghost of Yotei PS5 Pre-Orders Go Live for Digital, Physical Copies
Probably gonna go with deluxe, but not 100% on that yet. Any big 1st party release (GoW, Spider-Man, etc.) I often gravitate toward the Collector’s but a statue is usually the big selling point for me. The mask here is cool but not really good enough for me to open my wallet more. So I’m ok passing on the Collector’s here.
Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Borderlands 4?
The showcase definitely quashed a few of my concerns and got my hype back up. I really liked how they brought up a lot of Quality of Life changes to the series, especially ones spurred on by fan feedback, such as legendary drop rate and the value of those legendaries, loot dropping with a variety of parts, and more.
Re: State of Play Presents Borderlands 4 Deep Dive on PS5 Pro
That showcase quieted a good amount of my concerns with the game. Raffa looks very interesting to me in particular. Don't even think I remember seeing that character in the teaser trailer.
Re: State of Play Set for Wednesday, 20 Minutes of Borderlands 4 Gameplay
This is a big entry in the franchise for me, in terms of my long-term relationship with the series. Probably put a good 1200 or so hours into Borderlands 2 between PS3 and PS4. TPS was also pretty good. BL3 made a lot of nice QoL changes but the endgame just couldn’t hold me as long.
So I’m hoping this will be a good step in the right direction. The initial reveal of the vault hunters appearances had me a bit worried, but I’m keeping an open mind.
Re: Ghost of Yotei Gets PS5 Release Date, Trailer, Pre-Order Details
SO EXCITED. Trailer looks gorgeous. Sucker Punch know what they're doing, for sure. A game like this would be worthy of my 500th Platinum. The timing should be pretty close (sitting at 473 right now).
