@Enuo Without making light of you specifically, I am using your comment to point out how funny it is that people can hear about games (or not at all) in different ways! You've never heard of it, which is totally fair. Meanwhile it's been on my radar for the last... two years? Ever since it was announced at the VGAs. By no means an earth-shattering game idea, but I thought it looked fun and I've been waiting for it to make it's way to Playstation.
I should have known that more LAD games would get added, considering the entire Yakuza series was on PS+ at one point. I bought both Isshin and this one on sale but my giant backlog is killing me yet again.
That said, these games usually only stay on for a year. Would I realistically be ready to play either of them within a year? Doubtful.
Aside from that, solid month. Curious about the Premium additions.
DW games have always been good mindless fun (I guess that's a more polite wording) but I always loved them. Whenever I'd be in the mood, it'd be a good time.
That said, I'm a bit iffy on this new one since it sounds like you very seldom get to play as the other famous characters. You more or less stay locked in with this original character for 90% of the game I hear. So I feel like that will turn off a lot of hardcore fans.
I am eagerly anticipating something more with the supposed FFIX remake. As the article mentions, it was part of the Nvidia leak along with a bunch of other games, almost all of which have been officially confirmed.
So I really can’t wait to hear something solid about it soon. FFIX was my first FF game and it’s still probably in my top 3 favorites.
So Date Everything is basically the Starbomb song “Kiss the Elden Ring”?
Joking aside, there’s a few here that might pique my interest. I also still like the concept of that Dispatch game shown at the VGAs. Can’t wait to hear more about that.
Oh, I missed the poll! I am definitely excited for Ghost of Yotei, might be my top pick. I still love Borderlands despite BL3 being a small letdown, so I'm excited for BL4 also. Beyond that, mostly smaller things. Unless... is Wolverine finally supposed to come out this year? Feels doubtful.
Also, I feel like I am obligated to check out Death Stranding as I like Kojima, but.... I'm worried the weird body and baby imagery is too prevalent. I've discovered that kind of stuff just does not jive with me at all.
Some DLCs I've had my eyes on hit some sales, so that's cool. I'm a 100% trophy completionist so DLC sales are always helpful.
Aside from that, Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is at its lowest price yet (for PS+ subscribers). Reviews on the game were mixed at best so I figured I'd wait that one out, but maybe now I'll jump on it.
Given that this is likely 2-3 years away at the minimum, there is absolutely NO reason this should be on PS4. I'm sorry, but this is sticking point for me. By 2027 the PS4 should be killed off and the PS5 finally fully embraced (several years later than it should have) and we should probably even have a rough idea of when the PS6 might be releasing.
Cross-developing this for both systems will just make it harder for the PS5 version to be at its fullest potential. It's way, way too late to be doing this. The PS4 is already 11 years old. Kill it already.
Edit: forgot the Switch... yeah I don't even want to think about that lol
Had that one on my radar after watching a Let's Play. I maybe wasn't blown away by it but it looked like it did some interesting things. Definitely worth a look.
I hate it lol. Maybe I'm in the minority but kill the PS4 already. Keeping the old gens still in play this long prevents them from innovating with the tech they have.
I think the series hit its comedic peak with BL2. And perhaps it’s no coincidence that that was the entry with Handsome Jack as the central villain. Also Anthony Burch was still the lead writer and I think left after that (or maybe after TPS?).
I didn’t mind BL3’s writing too much but it definitely wasn’t the same. I remember I liked a lot of Fl4k’s lines a lot, but a lot of that may have been due to ProZD’s delivery. Not sure. I just recall not liking the main villain that much. A bit one note and not nearly as charismatic.
Once we get past all the “heavy hitter” announcements, this is easily the one I’m most excited for. Interesting premise and amazing art style. Looking forward to hearing more.
One game that I super hope does not fall into this pit is that somewhat recently announced Captain America and Black Panther game. Think it’s been like 7-8 months so I wasn’t expecting any updates quite yet per se, but hopefully we do get some soon.
No mention of Dispatch? That one definitely gripped me a bit with the visual style, good voice cast and the premise of the game. Seems to blend some interesting management game ideas with a TellTale style? Either way, that one is on my radar.
It just says the game supports those ways to play, not that it’s MP only. I’m guessing maybe you never played Borderlands before? Solo play has always been an option.
My personal take on the trailer was that it felt a little underwhelming. BL2 is one of my all time favorite games. BL3 did some great QoL things and had fun characters but it lost a ton of steam for me. This is an important entry for me in terms of keeping me invested in this series, and again the trailer didn’t blow me away.
I want to watch it again though and absorb more. One of my main takeaways was the vault hunters looked very uninspired. I honestly considered that maybe they were create-a-characters. The girl with the jacket seemed interesting but that was it, and then that just reminded me of BL3’s main villain so…
Is that so? I'll have to take a look next time. I'm still learning things. And yeah, to clarify my original post, my "frustration" (and that's already a bit strong) is just the timing of me starting the game and literally a couple days later, them adding more customization options. Because you don't have the same number of options at the mirror as you do when creating your character. But I'll check out the Ripperdoc and see, like you said. Appreciate it.
lol and of course I literally just started this game like 5 days ago. After sitting in my backlog since launch, I finally did it. The update for character customization is annoying in particular because you don't seem to get access to every option when you try to change things in the apartment.
Ubisoft gets so much hate and I don't think all of it is deserved. I just base this on the fact that I have not played a single game of theirs in the last 10-15 years that I didn't enjoy or get a lot of fun out of. There's been some missteps with some game development decisions, but I feel like most of the issues come from upper management and higher. Even Outlaws has been somewhat enjoyable for me, albeit a bit boring at times.
Or put another way, for a developer whose releases I genuinely look forward to time after time (I'm still fairly optimistic for Shadows), I'm surprised they're in the news this much.
I also think some of it is weird luck on my part? Everyone mentions how Ubisoft games are buggy, it's basically a meme, but I've never really had issues that were noteworthy. A crash here or there, a minor graphical bug once in a blue moon, etc. The games always ran smoothly for me, always. Even the ultimate meme, AC Unity ran almost without a hitch for me, aside from falling through the map once or twice and a few other things that I considered pretty minor. I had probably 10x more crashes and more issues playing Dead Rising than AC Unity, but AC Unity is still the "lol broken game" meme poster child.
Hopefully they can improve their issues to satisfy their customer base. I still like AC a lot and again, I still have not played an Ubisoft game that made me want to not support them... yet.
Played this game last year, was just kinda looking for a fun indie on PS+ that seemed different. I had a blast with it. Enjoyed the shopkeeping stuff, setting your prices, and trying to push all that product, then going back out to the dungeon to do it all again.
Would totally play a sequel and it looks like they're bringing a new visual style.
I'm a habitual Rest Mode user and it seems like the PS1 start up does not work on Rest mode. Kinda disappointing but understandable.
I'm pretty pleased with the themes though. Love the PS2 color scheme and sounds. The overlay image blocks a tiny bit too much of the screen though but that's a minor complaint.
Got absent minded and forgot to finish my purchase for Alan Wake II Deluxe Edition from the Black Friday sale. Overlapping sale events (often with similar products being offered for similar or less money) have conditioned me to wait til the last minute. This time it backfired on me. That $39.99 for AW2 and all the dlc was nice but hopefully it’ll come back for that price in an End of Year sale or something.
Not really anything in this one that interests me. Maybe I’ll grab Tomba for $11.99. Never played it before.
Edit: forgot to mention new release Nine Sols was also a couple bucks off. Not a big deal, it wasn’t a huge discount or anything but still kicking myself over it. Plus I would actually play that now instead of backlogging it.
March sounds solid to me. And I think I will definitely be well done with Sparking Zero by then so that works.
I’m still sad that this won’t include the 1000 Year Blood War arc but I hope it will at least include everything up through the end of Aizen. I think the description was “Arrancar arc” which I assume is a just an obtuse way to describe most of the Hueco Mundo stuff since we already know Ulquiorra 2nd Form is confirmed and that is well past the official Arrancar arc.
Late reply from me but thanks for letting me know about that. Yeah definitely a monopoly kind of practice like you said. So Sony can do a tiny bit of gouging and that really stinks UK gamers get an even shorter end of the stick as a result.
Consumers often get screwed over one way or another. Only thing that changes usually is the “how”.
I'm slowly embracing digital and seeing some convenience there for me. However, I'm still not really ready to drop physical since I still own a lot of disc games that I'd rather not have to buy again.
In addition, I could embrace digital even more if Sony didn't charge more for digital games. Any game I'm shopping a deal for and don't want physically, the PSN store often charges more than other retailers for the physical edition, which just seems backwards.
For example, Armored Core 6, a game I'm interested in but in zero rush to play, and I also do not care one iota about owning the disc for has never ever been lower than $34.99 in the PSN store. Meanwhile both Walmart and Best Buy were just selling the physical copies for $19.99. You'd think for a digital copy with no case, no disc, Sony could match that, but no. And that's a pretty common theme with a lot of games.
So in short, I'm in the minority by slowly warming up to digital, but I still see a lot of issues and Sony isn't really making the transition easy for pretty much anyone with this nonsense.
I’m gonna try to hold tight on a lot of things since while some deals are tempting there are games I know I will definitely not play for months, so I’d rather save the money for the moment.
That said, things I’m giving strong consideration to:
Alan Wake II Deluxe Edition for $49.99 Palworld for $22.49 LOTR: Return to Moria for $14.99
Things I am tempted on but will probably hold off on:
My sub ends on 11/28. I wonder if I let it lapse would I qualify for a discount? Or does "new members" literally mean brand new, never signed up before?
It is honestly tough to restrain myself when I see a good sale on a game in the PSN store. I will wait some things out for months for the best deal, so I can be patient sometimes. But I think I need to try to exercise more restraint since probably in the last 3-4 months of Extra/Premium games, a good 8-10 of them were games I bought for my backlog.
I think the key is: "am I going to play this in the next 2-3 months? yes, go for it. No, WAIT"
Edit: in this case, I already bought Killer Frequency, Like a Dragon, and Dying Light 2 (although tbf, that one was an amazon physical purchase)
Trying to platinum KH Melody of Memory before it goes, but don't think I'll have enough time. 150 songs, gotta play them all 3x each, plus a few other grinds. Just a bit too much to do in roughly a week, sadly.
FFVII Rebirth was the only game to force my PS5 to shutdown while playing. It wouldn't turn back on right away either which was certainly nerve-wracking. Eventually I solved the problem by reinstalling the game.
So I can see the extra appeal with the Pro if it has that extra bit of power to run this packed game.
That really sucks. This was far and away the absolute best PoP game I played since 2008 and the original Sands of Time. This game was a gem and had so much creative energy behind it.
It's hard for me to blame fellow gamers, because we live in a time where people want to be cautious with their money, which I understand a little, and whether it's right or wrong, Ubisoft don't have the perfect reputation. That said, I do remember seeing the comments when it was announced. "This looks like an indie knockoff, not a real PoP game." "The character looks bad." "It's Ubisoft so it'll be broken at launch."
It sounded like some people just didn't want to give it a chance, and that's sad. I was happy to give it a chance and it made the GOTY conversation for me. I just had such a great time with it, I loved experiencing it, I wanted others to experience it, and more importantly, I wanted ANOTHER experience like it. And because of these results, and whatever unfair expectations Ubisoft corporate have placed on the devs, it sounds like I never will.
As a kid, I remember this game having some really annoying/cheap platforming deaths. That got frustrating sometimes. That said, I remember having a blast playing it with friends over. A lot of Plo Kloon fans started here lol.
I'll admit I was somewhat excited for this game. I am enjoying it a fair amount, but also at times finding it a bit dull. I think a small part of that is the fact that I'm playing it at a very slow, drip-feed pace. The other aspect is the game feels somewhat limited in variety and interesting things early on, which matches some of the reviews I saw.
Oh man. I actually really like Bleach's dub (Johnny Yong Bosch is SO good as Ichigo) but I forgot that Ulquiorra's voice is actually not great (I assume it's the same VA). I feel bad saying that because I genuinely like the cast for the most part.
Despite that, still very excited for this. And I think the launch window is smart with Sparking Zero right around the corner. Never been this excited for fighting games lol.
I love the idea of exploring a new character and story. I also wouldn't have minded to see more of Jin's story. It felt like at the end of the first game, there was still more of his story left to be told, more potential drama (especially depending on which ending you chose).
But again, I don't mind this one bit. I really look forward to seeing what SuckerPunch does here. They did such a great job before.
I’ll look to add the regular DualSense to my collection. Got the GoW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 and Astro Bot ones. These ones will probably be even more desired though.
Fingers crossed. My PS Direct experiences have been mostly good so far.
I know that covid really screwed things up, and the manufacturing costs of the PS5 (affected by the former greatly) are another major factor, but this has been such a weird gen. In terms of the PlayStation family (i.e. not Xbox or Switch), there are so absolutely few PS5-only games. In a few months we'll be approaching the start of the PS5's fifth year and so many new games come out on both PS5 and PS4 still, aside from the titans of the 1st party scene.
And look, some people may have valid reasons for not upgrading. I know very well the PS5 was extremely hard to come by for the first 2-2.5 years or so. I get that. I also understand for Sony and especially with digital slowly ticking up sales, the idea of selling both to people is very easy and it appeases more people.
It's just a bizarre thought to me that in theory, we could see the PS6 on the verge of a release in a few short years, and PS4 games could still be releasing left and right. That's just unheard of. And frankly, it would really diminish the PS5's identity. That's just my thoughts though. Not trying to be a downer.
Gaming is in a weird/tough spot. You can't push the envelope much further on graphics. Dev times for big AAA games that aren't shooters or sports or etc. can take 4-7 years now.
From the publisher side, I see why live service is appealing: it's cheaper (usually), easier, and gets the product out sooner. Plus microtransactions can bring in that extra $. Concord still had a long dev time though despite it being "just a live service shooter." But this is not what we want.
I'm happy gamers have voted against live service these last 2-3 years because I hope it will mean more quality games in the future. But the double edged sword is studios may not know how to properly do "quality" without spending 5 years between each game. I love indies, I really do, and they've grown on me tremendously the last couple years as appetizers before the next Spider-Man game comes out in 2028 (literally that will probably be the year). You can say "just make a big enough game that feels like AAA without the cost and scale, but still have more longevity than an indie." And that sounds simple, but in execution, probably not.
Legal Eagle did a good video about how Japanese copyright law is a bit different than the rest of the world. Even "very similar but still different" cases that normally don't get anywhere in the US have sometimes gone the way of the plaintiff in Japan.
All of that said, I have no idea what will happen here. My gut says Palworld will likely survive or at worst, have to redesign some things, which would be easy IMO. I guess we'll see.
Was about to be like "wth, wasn't Gotham Knights just added like 5-6 months ago?!?!"
Then I checked, and it was last October, so about a year. In fact, I think maybe Dragon Quest XI was also October, so maybe they're keeping certain games on for a year.

Alan Wake II Deluxe Edition for $49.99
Palworld for $22.49
LOTR: Return to Moria for $14.99
Things I am tempted on but will probably hold off on:
Stellar Blade, Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition.
I’m sure I’ll end up convincing myself to buy something unexpected too.
Happy shopping all!
Re: PS Plus Black Friday Discounts Again Seem Completely Random
My sub ends on 11/28. I wonder if I let it lapse would I qualify for a discount? Or does "new members" literally mean brand new, never signed up before?
Re: MGS Master Collection Update 2.0 Boosts Resolution on PS5, PS4
Hope we'll hear about Vol. 2 soon. They did a decent job with this one.
Re: 17 Games Land on PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Re: Reminder: PS Plus Extra, Premium to Lose 18 Games in a Week
Trying to platinum KH Melody of Memory before it goes, but don't think I'll have enough time. 150 songs, gotta play them all 3x each, plus a few other grinds. Just a bit too much to do in roughly a week, sadly.
Re: Hands On: Serious Pop-In the Only Problem with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Massive PS5 Pro Boost
Re: Ubisoft Disbands Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Team After Poor Sales, Claims Report
Re: Aspyr Brings Back Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, Out for PS5, PS4 in January
As a kid, I remember this game having some really annoying/cheap platforming deaths. That got frustrating sometimes. That said, I remember having a blast playing it with friends over. A lot of Plo Kloon fans started here lol.
Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero (PS5) - Budokai Tenkaichi Returns as a Stunning, Super-Hype Brawler
My hype level is OVER 9000!
Can't wait for Friday
Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero PS5 Pre-Orders Tracking Above Call of Duty on PS Store
Definitely feeling the hype for this one. Just a little over a week to go.
Re: Star Wars Outlaws' Rescue Roadmap Provides a Snapshot of Modern PS5 Gaming
I'll admit I was somewhat excited for this game. I am enjoying it a fair amount, but also at times finding it a bit dull. I think a small part of that is the fact that I'm playing it at a very slow, drip-feed pace. The other aspect is the game feels somewhat limited in variety and interesting things early on, which matches some of the reviews I saw.
Re: Bleach: Rebirth of Souls Will Go Hard in Early 2025 on PS5, PS4
Re: PS5 Pro's 30th Anniversary Bundles Are Getting Flipped for $5,000
Scalpers gonna scalp. I know it’s just screaming into the void but I really wish there was some better solutions. These people are so greedy.
Re: Don't Give Up on Jin Just Yet, More Ghost of Tsushima Spin-Offs Planned
I love the idea of exploring a new character and story. I also wouldn't have minded to see more of Jin's story. It felt like at the end of the first game, there was still more of his story left to be told, more potential drama (especially depending on which ending you chose).
But again, I don't mind this one bit. I really look forward to seeing what SuckerPunch does here. They did such a great job before.
Re: How to Pre-Order PS5's 30th Anniversary Collection
I’ll look to add the regular DualSense to my collection. Got the GoW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 and Astro Bot ones. These ones will probably be even more desired though.
Fingers crossed. My PS Direct experiences have been mostly good so far.
Re: Ubisoft Board Orders Internal Investigation and Review into Company's Financial Woes
I can't help but laugh a little bit.
Small groups of AC fans over the years: "omg give us AC in Japan already!!!!!"
Ubisoft: gives AC in Japan
Fans/Investors/Everyone: WHY IS EVERYTHING SH*T. I HATE YOU
Re: Big Tech Cuts Made to Get Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Running on PS4
Re: Rumour: Concord Cost $400 Million, Sony Believed It Was the 'Future of PlayStation'
Re: Palworld Struck by Nintendo Lawsuit Days Prior to Predicted PS5 Reveal
Legal Eagle did a good video about how Japanese copyright law is a bit different than the rest of the world. Even "very similar but still different" cases that normally don't get anywhere in the US have sometimes gone the way of the plaintiff in Japan.
All of that said, I have no idea what will happen here. My gut says Palworld will likely survive or at worst, have to redesign some things, which would be easy IMO. I guess we'll see.
Re: 10 Major PS5, PS4 Games Are Getting Axed from PS Plus Extra, Including LittleBigPlanet 3
Was about to be like "wth, wasn't Gotham Knights just added like 5-6 months ago?!?!"
Then I checked, and it was last October, so about a year. In fact, I think maybe Dragon Quest XI was also October, so maybe they're keeping certain games on for a year.
Also, time is f'n weird man.
