After honing its craft in two fast-paced Ghostrunner games, developer One More Level is switching things up with its next effort, Valor Mortis. This is a first-person title set in an alternate history where you rise from the grave after serving Napoleon to fight monsters and unravel a humanity-threatening conspiracy.
The studio is upfront about the fact Valor Mortis is a Souls-like, but from the first-person perspective, it's certainly going to be quite a different one. The story setup supports that too: "You are William, a soldier of the Grande Armée brought back from a battlefield grave. But the Europe you awaken to is not the one you sacrificed for. A mysterious plague now sweeps the continent, and you have been reborn with its corrupting power pulsing through your veins."

Valor Mortis is targeting a PS5 release in 2026. If you're interested in the game, you can sign up to take part in a pre-alpha playtest on PC. "Duel horrifying abominations, wield supernatural powers and unravel the conspiracy shrouding Napoleon’s Grande Armée."

Not really sure how I feel about this one, will have to see more before I can judge properly.
This looks really cool and a nice change of pace from the usual soulslikes. I have a soft spot for these guys as I fell in love with Ghostrunner, even if it was pretty exhausting to play. I'm not entirely convinced this gameplay will hold up for a full game of this type, but my interest is piqued.
This genuinely looks awesome.
I love Ghostrunner but this is just sad...another Soulslike. sigh 😮💨
This looks really cool, wonder how it'll play but it's a cool setting.
I'll skip since it's first person, but it looks beautiful though!
I’m down for this
Really liked Ghostrunners and this looks very promising, signed up already for the playtest
Why is everything either soulslike or Gaas? Bring back epic single player or couch co-op, without micro transactions, and occasionally large expansions.
Larian and cdprojekt are a couple of great developers that do not follow the mainstream and still they made two of the greatest games in a decade.
Looks dope. Haven’t played an fps soulsie before, but given how well they handled the Ghostrunner series and its twitchy gameplay mechanics, I could see this translating over well into this. I’m down.
Loved Ghostrunner and this looks great, but I just don‘t have the patience for Soulslikes… so, no thanks.
I have no interest in anything souls like unless it has difficulty modes then I'm interested
This gives me a Bloodborne-meets-modern-Doom vibes. When I read that it was first person, I dismissed it but after watching the trailer, I'll be keeping my eye on it. Looks like it could be fun.
It was one of the most interesting things from yesterday... Until I read that it's soulslike now. Bummer.
This looks great to me.
After words "souls-like" I completely lost interrest.
To all saying souls like... this does not look like a souls style of game. Maybe more like a FPS God of War or something like that.
It would come as little surprise that I am a fan of the Ghostrunner series since I have Jack as my avatar. So while I am feeling a little souls-like fatigue, these devs earned my trust and this one at least looks pretty interesting.
Funny how people here are getting upset about this game being a souls like when ghostrunner's gameplay is about trying to not get hit once or you repeat.
I love the trailer. I’ll keep an eye on this.
Some people seem to believe it’s hip and cool to whine about soulslikes. It’s not.
As for “bring back epic single player” most people would rate games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls as just that. As for this game, it seems great, I’ll probably pick it up. Bring on the soulslikes.
Looks good! Hopefully not soulslike difficulty lest rigour mortis sets in
Cool varlor mortis looks really good.word up son
Alternate history Napoleon invasion of Russia, made by the Ghostrunner Devs definitely has my attention. Bit skeptical that it's a soulslike though.
@Nepp67There's a lot more to being a soulslike than simply being hard. It's largely about game structure, and level design, as well as the lock on combat system. I can't really think of how Ghostrunner is remotely comparable other than being hard. That being said, it needs to be seen exactly how this new game is supposedly a soulslike.
