@xX_RiscazZ_Xx Huge difference with WoW and DCUO etc, was simply replayability.
You werent forced to wait a week to re run a raid, you just used tokens to reset the loot lock to try again.
That and the grind was tedious to the point you could spend 4 months never getting anything useful, such as in my case, I had nothing but 3 months of energy.
I was at level 28 for that entire time, due to having 0 armour drops from bosses and chests.
Every other MMO Ive ever played had guaranteed item types from bosses, be it weapons or armour or whatever.
When you run the exact same raid week on week and get absolutely nothing, its unsurprising people dont like it.
I paid 90 quid for this game, I EXPECT 90 quids worth of unique content.
Im wondering how many bridges have been burned now though. Given that the PR bloke from Square was going on about "MS having a good energy for TR", this comes out as a but if a "we better not look as if were all about the money".
@Anchorsam_9 Absolutely. Which just serves to iterate my point. I apologise for the wording in my last post, I get very annoyed when its assumed those that ask for something else are just complaining and arent allowed an opinion.
I dont like Rocket League. BUT what is great about that game is that it was completely different, and that is why I tried it, even though I knew I wouldnt like it.
Oops, remember kids, the games are free so you are not allowed to have a negative opinion about the games or plus.
Remember, you MUST like them!
The point, yet again, has been missed by some.
The issue isnt that the games are Indies, but that they are commonly of a very specific style and gameplay.
Month after month with a few exceptions.
A game being free absolutely does NOT make it worth playibg at all.
Im waiting fir a very specific gametype on plus, a stylish action slasher like Devil May Cry, which absolutely could be done, but as yet hasnt.
I dont enjoy rogue likes, or side scrolling platformers.
I also dont enjoy dance movies, so I dont watch them, not even if they are on TV or given to me free.
Where do some of you c**ts get off, with the high horse attitude of "its free, stop complaining"?
How about this, the IGC has a more diverse selection and alot of Indie devs try something a bit more adventurous?
After all, if a triple a series gets crap for repeating the same process, why do Indies get a free ride?
@sonicmeerkat I feel exactly the same.
Since launch, the only games Ive actually enjoyed are Strider and Apotheon.
Dont Starve was ok.
That is ALOT of games that are just not enjoyable for me.
There hasnt been a single action hack and slasher, like Heavenly Sword or DmC (not those specifically just the play style) on the IGC, and a good 50% have been side scrolling retro types, which is the go to play style at the moment.
Bearing in mind I only have one platform, I am not able to benefit from ANY of the other games.
And as Ive said, if it doesnt interest me in a trailer or game footage, it will not interest me by playing it either.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the chances of an "Indie" being more original.
Many, MANY Indie games have taken a tried and tested forumla done many times over.
And that should absolutely be criticised as it does routinely in the bigger budget titles.
Being small doesnt exempt you from that.
I have found seeing the exact same gametype or art style time and again is what puts me off.
And if theres nothing in a trailer or short gameplay video to capture me then Im not trying it.
Im exactly the same with films, books, tv shows etc.
Indies are certainly not the best, or worst, place for innovation, but you can bet your bottom dollar if an Indie tries something crazy that fails, itll just be written off as a bit of bad luck but ambitious.
The monent a big triple a dev does that exact same thing, its suddenly a travesty, the company a joke, terrible and so on.
And that double standard has no place in gaming.
Every single Indie game Ive tried without any prior interest Ive flat out not enjoyed.
@stevie85 Yes it is.
So the only way to eliminate it is not to do it to start with.
We will still see the same names on the IGC anyway so its neither here nor there.
There will never be a niche game or something different as long as its coming up against the likes of say, Transistor or Velocity for example.
Which to me alienates those who would like to see those niche and different games, but as I said, that doesnt happen now anyway, well, very rarely.
But Im going to say that I completely disagree anyone can be a decent player after an hour. I player for a good 2-3 to try and get into this game and outside of the tutorials, Ive never scored. I played a game online and got destroyed 14-0, and the other player was just messing around in the end, I dont think I touched the ball more than twice. I even tried offline, which wasnt any better.
The AI was either useless on the easiest setting, making it me just driving around attempting to hit the ball ir when I turned it up a bit the AI suddenly became Sherlock Holmes. There was absolutely nothing in this game whatsoever that has made me want to try again.
Still, as I said, glad you picked it up and enjoyed it, I tried it on the face of it being a unique experience, which it absolutely was.
@Johnnycide Yeah I hear that. I just think that there could end up being a percentage of players that flat out never get anything. Id rather Sony just put up games, than constantly see the obvious choices that the majority want always being the freebie. That way if you just get games, theres more of a chance you could get a game you love. I dont know, Im just trying to argue the toss.
@rastamadeus I get that.
Ive said the exact same thing in the past.
You cant criticise Indies because they are low budget (as a rule), no matter how similar it is to another game or whatever.
This seems to be the general consensus.
My major issue is, if 5 straight months all three "choices" are things I dont like the look of, which is possible, why would I vote?
Or if a niche game I really liked the look of, but it was up against something as popular as say Transistor for example, what game would I be getting?
Because lets face it, you could blow smoke up the back end of Sony regarding this, its still hugely stacked to the "majority" and Id argue lowers the chances for something different to come along.
Making those whom are selective less likely to recieve something.
@Johnnycide Or a stream of exactly the same genre because thats the most popular, rather than whats neccessarily the best games.
I think it could end up biased against those that have more specific tastes like myself, where irrespective of the vote, could never ever see a game on there that appeals.
Extreme yes, but very possible.
Unless the three offered are always vastly different which in my experience so far, is unlikely.
@dellyrascal Personally Im yet to try a game Im not interested in and start enjoying it.
Same as Ive never bought a game I dont have any interest in.
If I watch a trailer and it doesnt appeal there and then I will avoid.
As mentioned I tried Rocket League and hated it.
I saw games like Apotheon and Strider and thought they look good, Ill enjoy them, and lo and behold I did.
Just my mindset I think.
I tried Rocket League purely on the fact it wasnt a side scrolling platformer. Which many of the games have been in recent months.
My problem is this: I only own a PS4, and Rocket League, although not nearly as good as people make out was the first game since Apotheon Ive downloaded.
I already owned MGS, and First Light was about Fetch and I wasnt interested in her as a character. And many of the others just flat out dont interest me at all. There are plenty of games that could easily be on PS plus now, the library is large enough with the likes of Tomb Raider, Metro, Devil May Cry etc.
If a game is good then its good, but Im certainly not one to sit here and assume that a game is "worth it" based on the fact its free. Theres likely a reason I didnt buy it to begin with and I guarantee its not the cost. A game needs to interest me to even consider trying it, as in my experience in 20 years of gaming, I never enjoy something AFTER playing it a while, I either want to play it or I dont. And as a result I dont feel the selection is eclectic enough for my specific tastes.
@itshoggie Nah, you sort of play through an area, go through a sewer passage and emerge on the other side from slums to old town, which has its own safe houses, drops etc
Thats basically telling you one of three games is free regardless of whether youd like to see them on there or not. Im not sure how different this will be in reality for those of us that want very different offerings than those that you are forced to choose from if you want to vote, from a list thats picked for you regardless. Then the ones that dont "win" will get put on the store anyway, exactly the same as it is now, so if you really wanted a game youd just pay anyway.
Giving a choice out of ten or maybe even 5 or 6 would give a better chance of the votes meaning anything. And you can guarantee they will be very similar genres, and almost definitely "remasters" from the PS3 or PC. But I notice people complain about remasters on the PS4 but somehow its mysteriously ok if its an Indie release… Anyway, Im not convinced.
@adf86 And thats exactly my point.
I commend folk who make a game in their living room, I beta tested Uplink by Introversion and that was literally 3 blokes in a bedroom.
It was great because it WASNT like anything else.
Now Rocket League was the first Plus addition Ive tried in months, purely as it was NOT like many of the offerings.
I didnt enjoy it but it was nice to see something completely different and its an example that you dont need to churn out tried and true gamestyles to be successful.
If a company, big or small, turns out a product that is a "clone" of something else for example, or copies the exact same formula, then if its a negative for one product it must be a negative for the other, one cant just decide that it is no longer a negative point because the person or persons has less budget, but unfortunately, oftentimes, this doesnt seem to be the case.
I enjoy a well made, innovative Indie game just as much as a big budget game, but I feel when I see the exact same thing over and again, I go out of my way to avoid it.
@adf86 Its rare to see this community commenting on how an Indie is "derivative" or "same old" despite many, not all, but many Indies sharing the exact same layout, playstyle and art direction. Just an observation.
Im not against Indies before anyone starts claiming that nonsense but I just feel that sometimes those things get conveniently overlooked in an Indy game yet in a "triple a" game they are pointed out routinely.
I was hoping for Submerged, that looks really cool. I know indies are exempt from criticism but I just didnt like Limbos art style. It would be nice to see more NOT sidescrollers though, as its pretty rare to see these days.
Limbo… 😔 absolutely aweful the first time I played it, so thats a NOPE. Tomb Raider is literally a sub par consolation prize for not getting the proper game. Music games dont do it for me and I tried Stealth Inc and it didnt click. I dont have a Vita or PS3.
I hold out hope for a nice DmC style action platformer!
Hopefully something that really captures me.
I buy all the games Im interested in, so the plus stuff tends to just pass me buy with a couple of exceptions.
Submerged might be cool, but Id just love to see something DmC like on there.
Also, I think I might be the only one not hotly anticipating Horizon.
I think its because its a female lead and its an RPG, and Im a bloke, and just cant put my mind in a female character in a Role Play.
Why should NG+ have been in at launch? Because its an RPG? None of the Elder Scrolls do, neither do the Fallouts, and they are all RPGs.
I think the point is missed that the praise isnt because they are releasing free stuff, but they are releasing things the community has asked for, and they arent charging for the privalege. Anyone who truly believes the Witcher 3 wasnt a complete experience at launch is very misguided.
I think I might be the first, but Rocket League was absolutely not the rave and fun time Ive been hearing about.
I played through the training and thought Ill try out a few offline games as I had zero interest in the online aspect.
The AI on standard felt like I was playing Fifa on beginner, and the only reason it wouldnt be 10 million nil is because Id score an own goal out of boredom.
So I ramped up the diff and it was like trying to outrun Usain Bolt while chained to a post.
Definitely not my thing at all, but then I knew it wouldnt be.
Some kind of action slasher DmC style, a good Prince of Persia style action adventure or nice Black Flag open world-esque title would be top for me, triple a or not.
Im quite particular about what I like so often its hard to see the fun in games I dont enjoy as a rule.
Edit: Journey would be good, I missed that on PS3 but the whole idea just captivated me.
@BAMozzy I only really remember Skyrim being a bit naff on PS3 on release, but I had a 360 then. Not that bad a track record IMO. That said I totally agree with RPGs being well suited to bridge the gap between releases.
Preowned, yes. I wont fund someone whom is so willing to just overlook its fans for some quick cash. A small exclusivity is fine, pointless but fine. But a year? Really?
Looking at it as a fan of all three series, Fallout, Uncharted and TR, I would have gotten Fallout alongside Tomb Raider, as its my preferred choice between that and Uncharted.
Any fan of both that could afford both would get both, and those that couldnt would get their preferred title, so Tomb Raider was unlikely to take a huge bashing in my opinion.
It will probably be terrible for any non die hard fan.
I say this because as soon as there are two currencies, the "free" in game earned one will require multiple playthroughs, just to get enough to buy some of the basic items.
It always happens and Im fairly confident it will happen here.
I dont expect to get the same as someone who pays, but it usually boils down to this:
Item x costs 10000
You earn 50 per fight.
You earn a bonus 50 for performing x.
And thats just ridiculous unless you play the game day in day out.
If you could earn a decent amount of this "fight money" in a single playthrough to obtain a good character or a load of minor things itll be great.
But we know this wont happen.
At least I doubt it.
Some good additions, and nice to see CDPR are really taking in feedback. Personally Ive never hit the weight cap, as I dont really see a point in keeping armour and weapons I dont use or need, but for those that do, its a welcome addition Im sure.
Aside from NG+ which is a must in a game of this calibre Id say, most other things Id like to see are superficial, you know the usual type of thing: more hairstyles and beards, different horse colours and so on, nothing really important.
Good job censoring, Konami.
Kojima created Metal Gear, he poured his genius into it for years and his team made excellent design and character choices.
Taking the name off the box just further highlights the petty nature of these people, and that they know it gas left a bad taste, and need it forgotten.
At least we all know without Kojima, this probably wouldnt even exist.
@Gamer83 I think thats what everyones afraid of. I hope she can just push and be heard, male them fools at the top realise they need to step up their game so to speak.
@get2sammyb Well, I thought she did a sterling job on AC, despite its faults it was a huge leap forward ingenuity wise. Im looking forward to Star Wars and if theres a new truly next gen Mass Effect Ill be over the moon!
But yes, seems EA are really trying to move out of the generic title box they seem to have backed themsrlves into. Perhaps shell be on the new Mass Effect?

Some kind of action slasher DmC style, a good Prince of Persia style action adventure or nice Black Flag open world-esque title would be top for me, triple a or not.
Im quite particular about what I like so often its hard to see the fun in games I dont enjoy as a rule.
Edit: Journey would be good, I missed that on PS3 but the whole idea just captivated me.
Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4?
@BAMozzy I only really remember Skyrim being a bit naff on PS3 on release, but I had a 360 then.
Not that bad a track record IMO.
That said I totally agree with RPGs being well suited to bridge the gap between releases.
Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4?
Preowned, yes.
I wont fund someone whom is so willing to just overlook its fans for some quick cash.
A small exclusivity is fine, pointless but fine.
But a year? Really?
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider Officially Announced for PS4
@get2sammyb Exactly this!
Re: You'll Need The Last of Us' Vinyl for the Cover Alone
Much like.
Plus the music was phenomenal, and Im sure I could pick up a record player cheap enough to justify!
Re: Celebrate the Coming Apocalypse with This Rather Nice Fallout 4 Lithograph
Im holding out hope that Raiders will be a joinable faction like BoS, The Legion and New Cali Republic were in previous games.
Re: Street Fighter V May Be the Most Consumer Friendly Fighter Ever
Re: Feature: What Does The Witcher 3 PS4 Patch 1.07 Do, And Is It an Improvement?
Some good additions, and nice to see CDPR are really taking in feedback.
Personally Ive never hit the weight cap, as I dont really see a point in keeping armour and weapons I dont use or need, but for those that do, its a welcome addition Im sure.
Re: The Witcher 3's New PS4 Patch Is 7.5GB, and It's Out Now
Aside from NG+ which is a must in a game of this calibre Id say, most other things Id like to see are superficial, you know the usual type of thing: more hairstyles and beards, different horse colours and so on, nothing really important.
Re: All Hideo Kojima References Have Been Stripped From Metal Gear Solid V's Box
Re: Ubisoft's Jade Raymond Joins EA, Forms Motive Studios
@Gamer83 I think thats what everyones afraid of.
I hope she can just push and be heard, male them fools at the top realise they need to step up their game so to speak.
Re: Ubisoft's Jade Raymond Joins EA, Forms Motive Studios
@get2sammyb Well, I thought she did a sterling job on AC, despite its faults it was a huge leap forward ingenuity wise.
Im looking forward to Star Wars and if theres a new truly next gen Mass Effect Ill be over the moon!
Re: Hitman PS4 Gameplay Footage Sneaks Online
@get2sammyb Glad to hear it.
I like the premise of this one.
The idea that it constantly evolves based on player gameplay.
Re: Ubisoft's Jade Raymond Joins EA, Forms Motive Studios
Id like to flex her creative muscles…eh right
But yes, seems EA are really trying to move out of the generic title box they seem to have backed themsrlves into.
Perhaps shell be on the new Mass Effect?
