Re: Talking Point: Is It Time for Sony to Take PS4 Pro Seriously?

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Ive had my console from launch.
It turns 4 this year.
As much as I have no interest in the pro at present, I also think its high time they moved forwards.
Again, its coming into its 4th year, its far past the point of being the new kid.

I dont think they should over sell it but by all means show what the pro can do, point out why its a great alternative.

Re: Rumour: Destiny 2 Beta Blasts onto PS4 Around June

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Yeah Ill pass.
After being blatantly ripped off with the first game, theyll have to really sell me on this one.
If this releases in the complete state that Destiny is NOW comparatively, that would be a start.

Because no way on Gods green Earth am I paying 40 quid for extra content that had as much in it as a free map pack from most other games.

Re: Guide: How to Change Weapons and Armor in Mass Effect: Andromeda

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@Splat
Wholeheartedly agree.
It got mid 70s on Metacritc.
Sure the previous entries got 90s but for all intents and purposes, given this is a new team AND new hardware, its a first in series.

If it was 50s Id say yeah okay its average.
Lower still and yes, a bad game.

But nobody can seriously tell me that just below 80s in a userbase scoring system is a bad game.

Re: Hands On: Is Mass Effect: Andromeda Really That Bad?

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@banacheck BioWare are great visionaries with great ideas.
They just never seem to be able to fully realise those ideas, to their fullest at least.

Personally Ill still buy, looking forward to cruising the Galaxy again.
Im not sure how I feel about Nier and Horizon is of zero interest so this will be my first foray back into the Sci-Fi RPG arena in a while.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Ghost Recon: Wildlands Holds On

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Ghost Recon at least has longevity.
And with friends replaying older missions is actually a blast, especially if you approach it differently to how you did so originally.

Im still astounded by GTA.
I mean its good, but its not incredible, and the Online aspect has become stale, the Free Aim lobbies are often half full at best.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda's Animation Thing Has Gone Too Far Now

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

I personally think the biggest irony in all of this, specifically the comments is, due to expectations of each individual the game is not up to par based on various points.

Yet there are many franchises and series out there that look truly hideous and the core gameplay is continuously unimproved and lackluster yet gets high praise.

MW3 would be a prime example.
That game looked like it belonged on a PS2, the gameplay was identical to MW2 and yet it was highly praised amongst critics and players alike.

My point in all this, is at what point does it become "unacceptable" for a studio to do certain things?
And why is there disparity between them?
Surely if its unacceptable for one studio, then it should ALWAYS be unacceptable for EVERY studio.
Its literally that black and white.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda's Animation Thing Has Gone Too Far Now

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@get2sammyb summed it up at the end in two words, "Grow Up".

These animations are not that big a deal are they? I mean really?

You dont like an aspect of a game, then dont buy, cancel your pre order if you have it, or use it for something else.
Very few, if anyone, has paid anything yet, so its not like anyone has lost anything and nobody has a gun to anyones head.

Re: Poll: Has the Mass Effect: Andromeda Backlash Put You Off the Game?

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

I could care less personally.
Am looking forward to junping into the Mass Effect world again.

I remember all the rubbish surrounding the ending to Mass Effect 3, which was not nearly as bad as it was made out to be.
Im not suggesting these ARENT bad but hardly the worst thing to happen.

As long as the overall narrative is sound, Im good.

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands (PS4)

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Thoroughly enjoying this.
It makes a change from the "try hard" entries were seeing all too often these days.

One criticism of the review is regarding the way the dialogue goes from stern and serious to dark humour.
As a previously serving member of the armed forces, I can attest that dark humour in these kind of scenarios is very much a real thing.

While I was out in the middle east we came under mortar fire and the first thing my mate said was "well, looks like Im not going to do a workout then".

In comparison to other games on the market, such as Horizon being of zero interest to me, its nice to have a good, fun shooter to just jump into.

As far as "not taking risks", which is largely a community concern, thats not limited to AAA and is very common in the Indy area, so my personal view is its a non issue.
If its not okay for big budget, its not okay for small either.

Re: Soapbox: The Worst Thing About PS4 Firmware Update 4.50

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

It took me a short time to get my head around it.
I got invited to a party in between a couple of game updates and downloads.

So Im sat here texting my mate saying nah, it didnt send, and because I was scrolling down the list it removed the "new" icon to its left.
Its not difficult to get but I agree, its annoying and unnecessary.

Re: No Man's Sky's New PS4 Update Will Let You Build Race Tracks

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Theyre trying, and adding alot of features but from a personal perspective, Im not convinced.

Race tracks that only you can use, alone?
That seems kind of redundant at present, given that I feel other areas need tweaking first.
For example, almost every single planet looks exactly the same.
I have screens of 3-4 different planets that could easily be mistaken for being the exact same one, and thats just the ones Ive screen shotted.

I like that they are adding things and trying to improve the overall experience but I feel they should concentrate on the core issues first.

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Variety Map Pack Comes to PS4 Later This Month

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@GlynCR I dont disagree on the quality of CoD4, and seeing the comparison screens, the team really made it work, looks like they took alot of pride in it.
I meant I will never ever play Infinite Warfare, I wont buy that just to play MW, for double the cost.

Im not knocking anybodies choice, if they are happy to pay said costs and will play both games thats great, then its just that, two games.
I however only want one of the two, and wont buy both just for one.

But thats not enough for me sadly.
I dont like feeling ripped off, and not just monetarily, I was appalled at the quality of MW3, and how little effort was put into its campaign and same same Multiplayer.
That to me is unacceptable, the consumer should take priority, but because many people blindly buy it year in, year out, it continues.
And its not unique to Call of Duty either.
Remember Sony at the launch of he PS3?
They charged £700 or so for a PS3, openly saying "because people will pay", and they did.

Re: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Variety Map Pack Comes to PS4 Later This Month

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

One of the few CoDs I liked, but not nearly enough to buy a game I will never play, at double its asking price, to then have to pay more and not a small sum, for a small amount of extra content.
Im surprised they havent released this as an episodic thing with each one costing the full asking price.

The sooner people wise up to this rubbish, the better.
Way back when Bobby Kotick openly said he doesnt care if the games are good, as long as they can milk the franchise.
Red flags right there.

Re: Guide: 10 Ghost Recon: Wildlands Tips and Tricks for Rookie Agents

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

A tip Id give is to invest in the sync shot asap.
Once completely unlocked you can take 4 people down at once.
For small outposts this can mean almost everyone, but there are areas where patrol lines are broke. And taking out 4 dudes at a time leaving only a handful of guys left before being spotted can really tip the odds in your favour.

Re: Outlast 2 Sprints from Danger 25th April on PS4

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Im not a fan of the "you have to run despite there being plenty of objects that could be used as a weapon" type of gameplay, as it doesnt really make sense to me.

Also didnt find the first one scary at all and only really jumped when you enter the first room and the body swings down (spoiler?)

Good news for fans of this genre though.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn Accused of Cultural Appropriation

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@Owenstoodstill nah, because of the way she is prtrayed as a hunter and warrior the only possible answer is she is Native American, theres no way on earth she could be just a made up race thats non descript and does not subscribe to an actual real life indiginous group… /sarcasm

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn Accused of Cultural Appropriation

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

I think some need to see the larger perspective.
Look at Assassins Creed 3 for example, accused of being "anti British" because of the way the it represented the "red coats" and so on.
Completely ignoring the fact that it is fairly historically accurate, the British Empire committed terrible acts to gain land and money.
Whats true and what is, are often vastly different.

Its not painting them in a bad light, they did that themselves.
If you cant point out and use these things in a game to send a particular message or tell a story, then there would be no place for storytelling in our everyday lives.

Sure, it needs to be handled maturely and with dignity but thats exactly the point.
If you are a mature person who understands the context of the writing, which Im assuming Horizon does a good job of doing, then these kinds of things should only enhance the story, not damage it.
Sounds to me like looking for faults where none exist.

If we were to take these things to heart every time wed never see games like Battlefield 1 for example:

Re: No Man's Sky Controversially Wins Innovation Award at GDC 2017

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

The issue I found was this 18 quintillion planets meants that every single planet I landed on or even saw was either green blue or red, because of the statistical liklihood of that happenening was fairly high.

This in turn made everything feel exactly the same to me.
Right down to the fact I saw two "different" species of animal that were amost identical, save for one being a slightly darker brown.

The idea and complexity was a great concept but in the end having that many possibilities was inevitibly going to fail.

I mean, I took a screenshot of 20 planets in a row that I landed on and they are all the exact same red hue, it would be easy to assume they are all just one planet.

Re: PlayStation Plus March Games Revealed

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@adf86 I understand the point you are making but Im going to use myself as an example and play devils advocate.

I personally, have never enjoyed a game, movie or TV show I have not had initial interest in.
If a game doesnt look, or sound in some cases where I read about said game, like something I will enjoy at all, I wont play it.
And when I have tried, looking at you Rocket League, I havent enjoyed the experience and it feels like a waste of time and effort when I already knew I wouldnt enjoy it.

Again, I see what youre saying, for most people, as Im only one person and speak only for myself, they would likely enjoy a game if they actually gave it the time of day, instead of immediately dismissing it.
I guess for myself I at least read up and do a small bit of research before writing something off.

I personally dont like the look of Tearaway at all, inclusive of the gameplay Ive seen.
By that same merit, I wont be playing Horizon, because nothing about that game interests me.

Re: PlayStation Plus March Games Revealed

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Im eager to play Disc Jam, but like @get2sammyb said in the other article, its a shame it didnt have a bit more time to get polished up.
But needless to say Im still looking forward to having a pop.

Tearaway is flat out not my thing at all, from visual style to gameplay.

As for the appeal of some of the IGC stuff, I can see why, as a rule, there is somewhat of a divide.
Indies seem to follow a trend, one releases and is popular, so another load of very similar games pop up.
This always seems to be a negative in view of "AAA" but for some unknown reason doesnt seem to be an issue for smaller studio games.

I can certainly see why Tearaway is unappealing to some, myself included, and Im sure that same view can be applied to many other IGC titles.
I think the last one I downloaded personally was This War Of Mine and I cant remember the last one before that.

Re: Talking Point: Which Free March 2017 PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want?

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Personally Im not too fussed, Im rarely excited to see what theyll offer.

Im not personally an anime game fan as a rule, but it would be something different, and thats what I hope for, a nice varied service which has a good mixed bag instead of smashing out platformera for 6 months then something else for 6.

Id like another decent sports game tbh.
Maybe last years MLB or something?

Re: Amazon UK's Selling a Horizon: Zero Dawn Steelbook Without the Game

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

If its being made clear and precise, then I see no issue.

It reminds me of the guy who sold a picture of an Xbox One on Ebay, clearly stating it was NOT an Xbox but a picture of it.
He had to pay back the money.
So I wouldnt be surprised if some buffoon buys this and somehow gets his/her money back because "it wasnt what I thought".

Basically as long as they are being clear, if its bought without regard to reading its description then tough, Amazon shouldnt need to hold your hand because you cant be bothered to check.

Re: Review: Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

Personally Ive had no interest in this game at all.
But the fact its able to get pretty high up there considering how high that bar has been set by CDPR, thats an acheivement in and of itself.
Personally I didnt mind the Wither 3s combat, but the story is extremely well written and the charactera very well designed.
So even though Im not the least bit interested in this, kudos to Guerilla for making its mark well, writing a decent yarn and trying out some new ideas.

Re: Review: For Honor (PS4)

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@ShogunRok game modes such as Dominion are decent with bots or players.
Elimination is definitely better with players, as bots are guaranteed to go twos up on you or another player, and they occasionally dont act like players.

A tip for new players would be to save your free premium boxes from the campaign until you hit level 21 and "prestige" your most played hero.
That way you get rare loot from them which only starts dropping at reputation level 1.

Theres a few balancing tweaks that are much needed, like the Orochi being able to effectively stun lock any hero wity fast attacks and side steps.
But none of the classes are game breaking you just see much more Samurai as they arent as well balanced as the other 8.
Given that they can strike fast and hard with high range and high stamina.
With the possible exception of Shugoki.

Anyway, great review.

Re: Tekken Producer Talks About How For Honor Compares to Fighting Games

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@jonny_aces UbiSoft often try out these new ideas, but dont always deliver.
For Honor seems to have broken that cycle I feel.
Theres very little on the market thats competing against it in regards to gameplay, and the premise and general overarching story is quite unique.
A few balance issues which will no doubt be dealt with in the coming months and this game could be a great franchise in the making.

Re: Tekken Producer Talks About How For Honor Compares to Fighting Games

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@hadlee73 thats the unfortunate truth of games sadly.
Too many players would rather win at any cost than enjoy the game to its fullest.
Ive had numerous times on For Honour with a dude running over to help his buddy, 1v2 or 1v3.
Im happy to just let the dudes go at it in a one on one and get involved once my team mate goes down.
Ive also been killed numerous times by team mates swinging wildly, stumbling my character resulting in a break in a combo, or worse, actually killing me with the hit.
Thats people abusing a system as a rule though.

Re: For Honor's Single Player Campaign Lasts Around 6 Hours

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

@lixei32 haha yeah all good stuff.
Folks complain about a frame rate drop or 10 second load time nowadays, back then you could have a bad cassette that loaded the load screen for 10 mins stopped at the last line of the image and crashed.
Thats a full reset and another 10 minutes loading!

Re: For Honor's Single Player Campaign Lasts Around 6 Hours

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

First and foremost, whomever believes this has the most repetetive and boring combat in a video game has clearly not played many games.
Against a human opponent fights are rarely hit and hope, they are often a battle of timing.
If this is repetetive and boring to some then thats their opinion, but having played FFXV where combat is quite literally holding down a button until you win or die, or any Turn Based Strategy ever, with combat being selection of a word, this is far from the most repetetive.

Having only played the knights chapter, and finding all the "observables", it took me around 2 1/2 hours maybe a little more.
These "observables" fill you in on some of the lore and history surrounding the central characters and so on.

The combat works, its far more intelligent than most games out there but its not going to be everyones cup of tea.
There are, from my experience with the beta, some balancing issues but thats to be expected.

As for online only, dont personally see an issue, I play Star Trek Online, and various other games like it.
Its not like the servers are down every 5 minutes.
Which reminds me, STO Agents of Yesterday just dropped on PS4…

Re: Talking Point: Are 'Live Games' Really What You Want on PS4?

ToOGoodOfAPlaya

I personally dont see a difference.
I paid full price for Hitman for example, and I have the entirety of the game.
I paid full asking price for Rainbow Six, and have the full experience for that cost.

It might not be the "whole package" right at the start but its still the whole package, you arent "losing out" on anything.

If you get rid of a game you can no longer play it anyway so there is little to no difference on that front.
And its very rare that anyone is going in blind.
These kinds of games are generally marketed as such prior to launch, so its unlikely therell be a "what the f…" moment.

In my experience, some games do better with this model because they offer a chance for them to evolve as they progress, improving mostly, and also giving their respective communities the chance to improve their own personal experience.
