Re: Mafia: The Old Country (PS5) - Historical Crime Story Runs Out of Ammo

TheArt

I stopped checking for this when they announced the linear approach, because playing through the Trilogy, their combat is fine but not the greatest, I knew it would be hard to top story focused linear devs like ND - these guys have years of experience in this field. Mafia's strong point was about the "only old school GTA with old school cars” available with some realistic details you don't even find in GTA - like brake lights staying on when you stop or tyres staying turned in the direction you left them when parked. I expected them to build on that strong point, instead you throw that out and go against critically acclaimed linear games that would be hard to top.

Edit: Well maybe that's why it's not called Mafia 4, this just some spinoff.

Re: Round Up: Total Lack of Mafia: The Old Country PS5 Reviews Is a Red Flag

TheArt

This was always looking like a 70s on MC type game. You go linear and think you can beat the likes of TLOU, Uncharted or RE4... pfft. I was looking forward to them building on their open world yet they decide to go backwards. We have a not too popular dev like Warhorse daring to create something as close to RDR2 with KCD2. And Hangar13 who's been around for some time making this look like their first ever game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 592

TheArt

Still Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, the immersion is incredible. I like how the combat isn't just straight forward hack and slash and go, the enemy has an equal chance just as you. The world is just beautiful, don't really think I've talked about a game's map being lovely, this is one of them along with the entire menu and UI. It has all the mechanics needed for a realistic open world. Can't stop playing.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds' Struggling Sales Drag Capcom Stock Price Through the Mud

TheArt

@B0udoir Yep some QoL mechanics just ruins games. I liked the tracking in World and was disappointed I could just find my target monster just by looking at the map in Rise. And in other games, things like items being sent automatically to your stash is just unrealistic. Fast Travel I still find somewhat questionable. QoL overall sometimes makes things cheap I feel.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds' Struggling Sales Drag Capcom Stock Price Through the Mud

TheArt

This was my most anticipated game for early 2025 yet I've gone on to spend my money on Clair Obscur & KCD2. After MHWorld set the bar at 90 MC, Wilds being at 88 right now makes it a "ooh I can wait a bit", 88 is far from a bad score and I know I'll definitely get it one day and enjoy it immensely. But Capcom doing this drip feeding and releasing the usual "massive expansion" later is making critics treat it like some live service game that would keep growing.

Re: Microsoft Reiterates It's the Top Publisher on PS5 in Earnings Call

TheArt

Yeah right. More like Bethesda is the biggest publisher on any platform. I remember looking at my physical PS4 games and seeing a lot of Bethesdas - from Dishonored 1, 2, DoTO, Prey, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Doom 2016...and then all of a sudden someone wants to claim all the glory. Bethesda would still have a lot of games with or without MS.

Re: Sony's Horizon Franchise Has Sold a Wild 38 Million Units Worldwide

TheArt

Horizon is just superb. Graphics, gameplay, everything. Analyzing a machine, tagging particular parts you want, shooting then off with a high tear arrow or shooting an elemental arrow to a matching element to trigger a chain reaction...what unique and satisfying combat. Fighting a Thunderjaw or Stormbird is always memorable.

@Oram77 the dust has settled, and y'all are really appreciating this gem of a series now eh.

Re: Expedition 33 Devs 'Exchange Ideas' with Final Fantasy Team

TheArt

Lol I see the novelty has worn off for some people but let's try to remember the first time we played it. Honestly it's the most stylish turn based game right now especially during battle, not even Metaphor comes close. Such memorable characters with all kinds of realistic hairstyles and interesting wardrobe. Great music. I'm a bit on a break, still exploring The Continent making sure I'm so powerful for the final battle, no rush.

Re: 'We Won't Make You Do the Same Thing Over and Over': Ghost of Yotei PS5 Will Keep You Guessing

TheArt

Horizon Forbidden West was very varied compared to Zero Dawn, we àll forgot and slept on it because Elden Ring. The approach to getting Cauldron overrides was different for each, and then when you got them some where corrupted. You have deserts, marshlands, snowy mountains, underwater, the skies and others. Ghost of Yotei would have go all out because to me Horizon has the title for best PS Studios' open world.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 590

TheArt

Deep in the jungle hunting for Stalker Stealth Generators, so quiet I can only hear birds chirping, waiting patiently to ironically ambush my targets. Like a scene from the Predator, and that's the beauty of a series that keeps releasing alongside other equally monumental games it gets somewhat overshadowed. Horizon Forbidden West. Got the Burning Shores DLC, so it's mainly that.

Re: Poll: 5 Years Later, What Do You Think of Ghost of Tsushima?

TheArt

I think I'm liking it more on 2nd run. Pretty sure at the time I couldn't help but to compare everything to RDR2 - which I was still heavily playing - and probably was still enjoying TLOU2 which came out in June 2020. After 5 years, I'm just appreciating GoT for what it is. Sometimes playing certain games at the wrong time can give you the wrong impression.

Re: There's More to Ghost of Yotei's Story Than Its Revenge Quest

TheArt

Doing a 2nd run of GoT, liking it better this time but damn the navigation is horrible. Hoping they drop the wind thing in Yotei because it got me going off the beaten path, roaming on difficult terrain ending up in someone's room. Aside, I love the unique art style, they don't need to change it for Yotei and of course the great engaging combat. I'm glad there's a camp system in Yotei too because what's an open world without some form of camp, inn or house...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 589

TheArt

Exploring in Clair Obscur making sure I'm strong for the final battle, what an artistic game. Trying to finally beat my 2nd run of HFW, game is so gorgeous. Also still continuing my first run of another gorgeous one - GoWR. Some EAWRC. Reinstalled GoT, lovely game but realized my issues with it were navigation, no camp or rest mechanic in an open world which I always find highly immersion breaking. I see it's been done in Yotei, so I might just look forward to it.

Re: PS5's Ghost of Yotei Fully Revealed in 20 Minute State of Play on 10th July

TheArt

I'll have to redownload GoT and see if I'll like it better, haven't even bothered with Iki Island - started a bit after beating the main game. Something about the gameplay wasn't really clicking, I think the navigation is atrocious and mainly ruined it for me. I kept ending up at dead ends, hilltops, cliffs following that goddamn wind.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 588

TheArt

72 hrs in and Clair Obscur still got me wowing. It's simply the most stylish turn-based rpg currently. Taking it slow don't want it to end quickly. It's back Sekiro 29.99, I just need to beat this game, the simplicity and hidden secrets in texts that helps in beating enemies makes it a unique masterpiece just like all of From's games.

Re: Opinion: Diablo 4's Story Campaign Is Well Worth Playing on PS Plus

TheArt

@kyleforrester87 Don't mind me, I haven't finished it either 😆 just remembered you raving on about that game.

@Northern_Munkey Got to the final boss and my save corrupted. Started over and got to him 2nd time and some other games got my attention. So yeah I've beaten that gorilla 4 times, he appears twice per playthrough. I'll definitely beat that game one day.

Re: Opinion: Diablo 4's Story Campaign Is Well Worth Playing on PS Plus

TheArt

Demo looked good but the always online and my fluctuating wireless made the game lag, my character kept moonwalking, was unplayable for me. Couldn't even start the game sometimes because Login was mandatory. Can't believe they can be so inconsiderate, at least THINK that there people out there who just want to play SP.

@kyleforrester87 You still haven't finished Sekiro too.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 587

TheArt

After 320hrs, beat BG3, such a fantastic game through and through. I should be beating Metaphor soon - probably today - since I found the silly reason why I was stuck on the final battle, it's made it easier. Then it'll be full concentration on the unique and ever brilliant Clairrr Obscurrr. Plus some legendary ER on the side with ray tracing and EA WRC.

Re: Feature: Top 20 PS5 Games of 2025 So Far

TheArt

Clair Obscur is so unique and special. YT videos in a hurry to beat the game playing it awkwardly almost made me pass on this gem. Plus you'd think it's some short RPG, I'm finding pretty long with my completionist play style. And it's made me love Metaphor all over again. Hopefully I'll get KCD2 down the line cause I know I'll love it.

Re: Atlus JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio Tags on 1 Million Sales Since Launch

TheArt

Just beat BG3 and jumped back to Metaphor, had a feeling there was going to be some news about it. The sales is quite low but could definitely be down to Atlus' infamous rereleases of the same games and charging full price, so some people might be waiting for some Royal Edition. Anyway gone back to it trying to beat the final battle, loaded an earlier save and I think I know why I'm stuck, skipped the damn crystals . Yea Metaphor can be all so overwhelming and push you to bounce off for a while but playing this along with Clair Obscur, they're all up there as the best turn based games of recent times, people should give it a chance.
