The nominees for the next Grammy Awards ceremony have been revealed, and one of the year's best video game soundtracks has not made the cut.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has captured the attention of many players for myriad reasons, but its music is an extremely common one.
The orchestral score has been lauded in gaming circles since the game's arrival, but it seems the people behind the Grammys aren't quite as impressed as everyone else.
The Grammy Awards includes a category for 'Best Score Sountrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media', and with the nominees now made public, we can see that Expedition 33 is not on the shortlist.

For reference, here are the nominees:
Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - Secrets of the Spires - Pinar Toprak, composer
- Helldivers 2 - Wilbert Roget, II, composer
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Gordy Haab, composer
- Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card & A Pirate's Fortune - Cody Matthew Johnson & Wilbert Roget, II, composers
- Sword of the Sea - Austin Wintory, composer
All very fine choices, of course, but it is a little odd that one of 2025's most talked-about soundtracks didn't get the nod.
Still, Expedition 33's music has already received some plaudits, and is likely to be recognised at this year's Game Awards, which take place next month.
How do you feel about the game's music? Do you think it deserves to be nominated as one of the year's best video game OSTs? Tell us in the comments section below.

I usually don't care about these dumb awards, but not including Expedition 33 for a music nom is insane.
Just goes to show you that these awards are worthless
Are you freaking serious? How did Silksong and Clair get snubbed?
To be fair i've not played Avatar, Helldivers 2 or Star Wars Outlaws but I can't imagine them being better than Clair Obscur: It's already one of the Greatest soundtracks of all time.
Sword of the Sea and Indy were great musically, but again not as strong as E33 imo. But that's the thing, it's all opinions and we all like different things. There is no right and wrong even if this feels like it.
Ignoring E33's score makes the list invalid.
Not even remotely surprising unfortunately. With 3 of the 5 being based on movie properties, it shows that they still aren't ready to consider video games as art.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora wasnt even out this year!?
Admittedly I don't know too much about these awards, but looking at the previous nominees, it definitely feels like there's some really specific favouritism going on.
Despite only doing this category since 2023, they've managed to nominate both Bear McCreary and Austin Wintory three times and now they've nominated both Pinar Toprak and Wilbert Roget II for the second year running for DLC on the same games they were nominated for last year (respectively Avatar and Star Wars). And they even managed to give Wilbert Roget II his third nomination in 2 years time by giving him one for Helldivers 2 as well.
I mean, come on.
My understanding is that folks need to submit things for consideration. I'm wondering if they just didn't do that for some reason?
@Toot1st 4 of these games are 2024 games so maybe 33 can be included next year? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense nonetheless.
I mean the Grammys always seem out of touch when it comes to a lot of genres.
This is a good reminders that all award stuff are subjective in the end^^
You could also mention the two nominations for the 8-Bit Big Band, for its latest album „Orchester Emulator“ and the song „Super Mario Praise Break“.
They already won a Grammy in 2022 for the song „Meta Knight‘s Revenge“. What Charlie Rosen has achieved over the years is tremendous.
There are game soundtracks i can hear in my head ,halo, kcd2 , helldivers 2 , tomb raider and many more, i played the hell out of e33 and loved it , however , I couldn't hum one track from it , don't even remember the title track , I know it was good, i just don't remember, maybe that was the issue....I just tried to remember and for some reason it turned into skyrim 😂
Helldivers 2 is a year and a half old at this point, surely it should have been last year instead? Even then, the soundtrack didn’t stand out.
I’m not surprised it was the weakestt part of the game
Some whole games get snubbed, even at game awards - eg Hogwarts Legacy!
It's one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time. I couldn't believe how good it was from start to finish. What a freaking game. This is a huge snub.
turned the music off after a couple of hours in e33, found it aggressively annoying.
The Grammys haven't been prestigious in quite some time
Honestly, the music was okay but not the best I heard in games this year tbh. I feel like people are getting tired of the E33 constant praise, and I do wonder if it will win less at the Game Awards because of that now (plus some other 10/10 games).
Watch everyone go mad when Spilt Fiction wins, haha. GK loves JF, and you know they aren't afraid to go against the grain.
Award shows are money based, pure and simple. They are as objective as a 24/7 cable news channel
I’m generally not too fussed on soundtrack awards but CO33 is among the best I’ve ever heard. It should have made the shortlist. It was top of the actual classical charts for a while ffs. Says a lot about the Grammys, for this category. The snub is insane
