Sony has revealed three new PS5-focused adverts it'll be broadcasting starting today that are designed to celebrate the current-gen console as it turns five years old.
Those adverts are called The Greatest Stunt Jump Ever, The Unexpected Catch, and Everyday Problems in Extraordinary Vehicles.
Vice president of global marketing, Isabelle Tomatis, said: "Through these past five years, our players have shared their reactions of awe, excitement, and surprise at the extraordinary moments they’ve witnessed while playing PS5. That’s the inspiration for our new ad campaign – we’re capturing the spirit of these moments when the most unexpected and unforgettable experiences happen on PS5."
You can view the three ads below:
The Greatest Stunt Jump Ever
Unexpected Catch
Everyday Problems in Extraordinary Vehicles
PS5 released on 12th November 2020 in the USA, and then had its worldwide launch a week later. On the PlayStation Blog, it's revealed there'll also be some physical campaigns in select countries that replicate the theming of the adverts above. There could be "UFOs landing in Australia, Spain, and Germany or mysterious creatures found in Mexico, Italy, and the UK".

This happens when you can’t show new, exciting games.
@Max_the_German Wrong.
This is brand marketing. They've always had commercials like this.
@Max_the_German I'm waiting for you to write new, exciting takes, but it ain't happening anytime soon, is it?
Hencock called.
@Max_the_German They always have marketing like this. And a couple of months ago they just showed Saros, Wolverine, Marvel Tokon, and the recent Loulan: The Cursed Sand.
I personally think the commercials are quite cool and they'll look great in the cinema over Christmas.
The message is pretty easy to absorb. Obviously hard to know what kind of impact it has on the average person, but keeps the brand in the collective consciousness I guess.
I'm still hoping in vain for Infamous and Ape Escape on PS5/PC
Nowhere near their best, but still pretty cool.
The ads aren't really targeted at users like us.
Maybe my memory isn't too good but I can't remember "it happen(ing) on PS5" where the Protagonist was eaten by a T.Rex then cut themselves out of its stomach, let alone after said T.Rex was fished out of the ocean.
Usually when one of those things eats something, it stays eaten!
Kratos, Atreus and mimir were spat out by a giant serpent, that was in the water, but it hardly seems the same...
Waiting for the no games this gen comments when they actually mean: "No new games from Naughty Dog this gen." Evidently game development time has outrageously increased so maybe new console releases should slow down too.
I get that they are aimed for the 'average' audience but the ads are pretty 'shrugging-my-shoulders' level imo.
The ad with the truck is taken directly from MindsEye prior to applying the Day 1 patch.
You can't park there mate
"Da hell I can't! Client wanted fastest delivery, came by air - and look around you chief, the only free landing spot! Take it up with management, fine their arses, but I ain't leaving here until I get payed!
Love it when they have these weird trailers. Also the tagline feels like it's specifically aimed at 'everything is an Xbox'
@get2sammyb
Here is an advert which is PlayStation specific and still mainly for brand-building:

The three spots in this article are so generic, they could also end with a „This is an Xbox“.
@Rich33....think you've totally missed the point of the ad there
@Max_the_German
Fully agree. These new ads are loads/lots of nothing. 😂 I want to see more like of that "It's time to play| PS4" ad.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@cainhurst94 Since PS5 is an Xbox, "it happens on PS5" also means "it happens on Xbox." Therefore, this is a secret Xbox marketing campaign! /s
@Questionable_Duck
You might have that the wrong way way round - everything that happens on Xbox comes to PS5, but Xbox misses out on a lot of the good stuff that happens on PS5 lol.
Makes me remember that looong week in the UK for PS5 to arrive 😀.
@KingPev
No, just having a bit of a laugh at the ads expense.
@Czar_Khastik
Nice. I was thinking more one of the GTA games - I was looking around for the nearby childs swing that launched it up there!
I was hoping the helicopter pilot would shout out “you can’t park there mate” 😂
I like it better than how PS+ is celebrating the 5 year PS5 anniversary, w/ PS4 game Stray and a couple of other games I can't recall their names. So they have that going for them. 👍
"our players have shared their reactions of awe, excitement, and surprise at the extraordinary moments they’ve witnessed while playing PS5"
Still waiting...
Let's face it, all the PS5 adverts ("It happens on PS5" and what was the fake news other one? "Alive on 5"??) have all been a bit crap. And is it just me or do you find yourself filling in 2 letters before the "It" too? Sh.
Still not every generation can have "4 the players".
@Megabeenz SIE could also bring Astro Bot into these adverts. Such a positive and playful vibe, and the best face for PlayStation I can imagine.
Or making a reference to the huge catalogue of great games: Instead of sitting in a bus on top of the Empire State building, the protagonist could also sit in a train wagon, hanging vertically over a gorge.
I don't know, I personally feel like game consoles should be marketed with games (shocking, right?). Adverts like this don't really awaken any feelings for me.
@Rich33 ...aha thought so, wasn't sure 😅
Waiting on the "stream your digital library" on the portal advert (with ps plus premium)
How will they celebrate it?
Free avatars again?
Adverts..like I need to be told what to buy as I am watching an intense documentary they are the scourge of society and should be banned they show a false dichotomy to the masses.
They going overboard on trying to sell the PS5 1st it was if you swap over to PS5 Sony will give me £85 Discount now this not on your Nelly Sony....Expect a price drop after xmas.
@KingPev
No problem - I often write more serious posts, or try to answer a question, or give my view on a game - but sometimes I just have to have a laugh at something like this - its too good an opportunity to miss!
I think I finally understand these adverts. The message: „You can experience this crazy situation in an ultra-realistic environment on PS5, and not on a Switch 2.“
Third-party games are doing the job and generate the most of the revenue and profit. First-party is just not needed at this point, with Xbox Series a non-competitor now and Xbox games available on PS5. PCs are still too expensive and uncomfortable for many people out there, let’s see if Microsoft can change that with its next Xbox generation.
I hope that the presumable end of the „high-profile console competition“ will not reduce the efforts of SIE for high-profile first-party games.
I enjoyed these ads from Playstation!
It's been a good five years with the PS5. But if 2025 is any indication, then the best has yet to come!
Looking forward to the next few years of PS5 games and for the introduction of the PS6!
That's awesome! Now some decent exclusives, please, Playstation!!!!
@Max_the_German (#1) exactly, lack of actual system sellers is the one thing Playstation has to accept. PS6 won't be bought anytime soon, even if available.
Well, looking forward to "Vertical stand bought separately" I guess.
@Questionable_Duck damn, Nadella and Phil always two steps ahead!
Modern advertising is such a reflection of modern culture: soulless and uninspiring. Same is happening to film, music and so on.
I get the idea of advertising the brand, but this feels odd to me. What happens when someone says "That looks awesome! I want the game where I jump a tanker over a skyscraper - where do I buy that game?"
It doesn't feel as obviously abstract as some earlier examples of Playstation advertising, where players encountered game characters from multiple franchises, or put on gear over their work clothes and started fighting.
PlayStation's best commicials never showed games. The brand is the draw for these rather then individual games.
These are just cool and silly Sony having a lil fun is nice
A bit s**t really, in my opinion.
I'm not going to lie, I'm ready for next gen. I like new technologies. This gen was a good step forward compared to what has come before in the technological aspect.
On the flip side, something about the world, the negativity and in terms of games, how long they take to come out has hampered the excitement I had in 2019/20 for this gen. I just don't think gaming in general has that spark anymore (aside from a few niche cases) and seeing how mostly the same generation of adults are the biggest audience in gaming (it is not flowing easily to younger generations), I don't think console gaming as it is will have too many more generations.
Shrugs I can’t be the only one that remembers how weird some of the old PlayStation ads were. Seems to either work or (more likely) do no harm. I could say much the same about outlandish game ads in general.

it should say: 'It Happens on PS5 and PC (Steam)'
