@Uncharted2007 Good lord, what cities exactly are crumbling because of crime? What examples? Please read something other than reactionary takes and news articles from dubious sites. Just google 7-myths-about-defunding-the-police-debunked, Brookings have a short article you can read on it.
@Uncharted2007 I’m sorry but this is a terrible take I’d usually expect to see on Twitter. Do you honestly believe the Defund the Police movement is anti-police in principle? The whole movement is about what it says on the box - defunding the police by taking some of the money spent on military provisions and using it to supplement police action with support from social workers and mental health professionals, and in general bettering police training. Unless this game purposefully promotes police brutality, there won’t be much of a backlash. I’m actually quite intrigued by this game. These reactionary takes are not helpful.
Enjoyed the first far more than I expected so really looking forward to this. Liked everything that I’ve seen so far and curious to see where the narrative is going given the ending of the first.
@jgrangervikings1 Think I know what you mean. I watched a lot of great reviews on it but thought “meh, will wait for a <£20 sale”. But then I played it during its free trial week and loved it. I think once you get into the system, it feels great, but maybe it’s just something that’s not come across gameplay and trailers. It’s such a shame it’s not doing well because this game format is practically screaming out for an X-men sequel that improves on a lot of the rough aspects, but we’ll likely never get one. Some of the later hero one-to-ones you can have are really great and show they do understand the characters and lore.
@jgrangervikings1 Midnight Suns literally has a unique battle system. Not sure how much more innovation people want from a TRPG, but I think it’s extremely unfair to suggest the combat system in Midnight Suns is a rehash. If it’s not for you, fair enough but saying it isn’t new seems unfair.
@Jamesblob I think what they mean is that you should be able to buy game codes from elsewhere that you can reclaim on the PSN. I actually agree, as then you’re not subject to only Sony’s pricing for digital games. Standard for pc.
More interested in what’s in the expansion. What systems from the base game will they finish? There’s a lot to fix in Cyberpunk, as good as the largely linear narrative is.
@nessisonett 100% agree. Part of the handful of companies deserving a reckoning of some sort, but unfortunately also one of the companies with legions of casuals who couldn’t care less about anything beyond a way to pass time gaming.
@wiiware Having a laugh if you think AI can write good scripts. It would need a lot of editing to be anywhere close. Also they’re not just striking because of AI, but streaming residuals and writer rooms.
The cheek. Absolute scummy behaviour, how do they justify the fact you can’t actually buy the lower priced pass, you will have to buy extra silver you don’t even want? I jumped in to play Lightfall but once I’m done, think I’m dropping this. Bungee have a brilliant game at its core, mechanically, but some of the things they do reek of laziness and a lack of care for their community.
@wiiware Utter drivel of a generalisation. Disco Elysium, Citizen Sleeper, God of War, Wrath of the Righteous, Divinity OS2, Pentiment, Tyranny etc etc. I could go on and on and list recent games with fantastic writing, but sure go ahead and blame Twitter because we have some that are written badly. There have always been badly written games and tv shows. We have more games with better writing now than ever. To act like now is a particularly bad time is absolute nonsense if you take some time and look at the field of play, be it in gaming or tv. This lazy cliche needs to stop being regurgitated.
Sounds like they’ve had time to actually finish the game this time. I hope they spruce up the mechanics and systems which were half baked at best at launch, loved the story though, as an action adventure game.
@Korgon Owlcat is doing it right in my opinion. The Pathfinder games are huge and deep. A single playthrough could take 100hrs but they’re also highly replayable. Out of all the issues people sometimes have (more with Pathfinder 1, 2 is brilliant), not being cinematic wasn’t one of them. Agree with you. Pathfinder and Wasteland may not make Cyberpunk money though, which is where this focus in the dev space may also come from, the need to compete with Naughty Dog rather than being happy as an Owlcat or Larian.
@Balosi Exactly. Decide what you want to make. What kinda winds me up is that CDPR did this to themselves. They’re the ones who wanted to make cinematic RPGs after hitting it big with Witcher 3. They wanted to follow that up because they had set themselves a standard, but really most RPG fans are having a blast playing WotR and it’s scaled back immensely. They don’t want to go back to basics because maybe they feel obligated to keep going now and went overboard with the Cyberpunk hype, but they don’t have to. I replayed the Shadowrun trilogy earlier this year and had an absolute blast. If they want to push the envelope, they shouldn’t complain that people expect them to push the envelope because that’s what they promised.
Absolute nonsense. Pathfinder, Wasteland etc are doing fine. No RPG fans really care about cinematics, just good story, world and mechanics. You don’t have to compete with Naughty Dog, nobody is asking you to. He even references Disco Elysium but still says this.
@zupertramp If you’re fine with this, at what point will this not be ok? If COD made you pay extra for real gun sounds, would that also be ok? Only gun nuts would care right? What if all the characters were voiced by staff and they made you pay extra for real voice actors? Would that be ok? Should every game dev start charging extra for real voice actors, since only real people fans would care? We need to stop excusing this nonsense, look at where we are because of letting them get away with this.
Looking forward to a packaged deal on sale. Feels like it will take all my gaming time r get my head around it so waiting for a good gap in backlog. Always wanted to try this.
Japan’s obsession with high schoolers is interesting. I think it’s a yearning for better days. Adulthood, with all the work and pressure that comes with it, just doesn’t seem as appealing as the freedom one envisaged in youth. Back then you could be anything, anything could happen, but as an adult you know that’s not the case. We’re on our train tracks but we wish we could still believe we could be on any. High schoolers are stem cells to the adult mindset.
Really looking forward to this, loved the first game as it was a total surprise playing it on Plus. Interesting they’re adding a few more layers to characters since the first game’s build diversity was pretty much reliant in the weapons themselves. This looks like there’ll be even more to it this time around.
The best trophies are those that, whilst some may be difficult, get you to fully explore the games systems and lore, not just waste your time. Sometimes you miss things on a normal playthrough, and trophies should try to cover those gaps and/or push you towards mastery of a system. I don’t bother platinum-ing anything that looks wasteful.
Aristotle covered so many topics, it’s kinda of unsurprising. He’s seen as the progenitor of the sciences as they’re known today if I recall, guy dipped his toe in everything from rhetoric, logic to zoology.
Not a fan of the genre in general (other than Destiny mp) but SkillUp’s preview made me interested in trying it out, ngl. Could be a lot of fun given the sheer chaos of the map constantly changing. Plus it’s objective based rather than bloody battle royale,
