FromSoftware

In what is undoubtedly the story of the day, developer FromSoftware has revealed its intention to release exciting new games more frequently. Now that sounds like something we can all get behind!

The Japanese studio, renowned for the complexity and depth of the worlds it creates, is currently hard at work on multiple projects. Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is launching sooner than any of us expected, on 25th August, and Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree appears to be coming along nicely, too. So it's somewhat surprising to hear the developer plans on kicking things up a notch, but considering the mainstream success of Elden Ring, perhaps it was inevitable.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Armored Core VI producer Yasuhiro Kitao commented on the studio's philosophy of keeping multiple pots on the stove, explaining: "This is an area we feel we've always strived to achieve: always making something new, always making something original, something that we find interesting and fun as players. So in this sense, really, nothing much has changed. We do develop multiple titles simultaneously; we do have several teams working on different projects. We hope to stagger our releases and bring something new and exciting at hopefully not-so-long intervals going forward."

FromSoftware has certainly shown they can be versatile, with just Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring alone being wildly diverse in setting, tone, and mechanics but united by those same guiding mechanics that spawned an entire cottage industry of imitators. Let's just hope they don't bite off more than they can chew.

What do you think, would you like to see more and varied games out of FromSoftware, or is their rarity part of the mystique? Take your time, and don't rush on your way to the comments section below.
