Owlcat have been brilliant across this and Pathfinder. That said with so many changes, I’ll probably wait for the next DLC to do a new run with up to date builds.

@Weez So they should just criticise the writing and execution. Simple. The woke lists that mention BG3 definitively do not do so, they mention the content itself.

@nomither6 Doesn’t apply to gambling I think. You just have to trigger addiction mechanisms and the dopamine rush.

Combat and mechanics take some getting used to so curious how people will get on, but I gave the first one a chance and once I locked in I absolutely loved it. Nothing quite like it in terms of immersion. Looking forward to this because the first ends in a really annoying way.

@tameshiyaku This. I’ve always treated platinums as a way to say you have seen most of what’s worth seeing and become proficient in the game’s systems. If the hunt is just purposefully wasting your time then I abandon it.

@tameshiyaku to be fair those must be quite cosy in this same cold.

Love it, but be careful - it will consume you once you realise how impactful some mythic paths are and you may end up restarting a lot to try new builds. Wonderful game and the devs have shown tremendous support.

One of the most interesting things will be how they’re trying to incorporate choice and consequence across time skips. It sounds like you’ll be making decisions and then seeing their outcomes across hundreds of years, which could be really really cool. Very excited for this.

SkillUp’s review sealed it for me, as I usually vibe with him, so not for me but I’m glad it’s doing well to annoy the X lunatics.

Definitely silly to be reacting with hate, though I suppose that’s the risk with fandom. If you want an audience to truly love your world and characters, the passion can end up cutting both ways. I think we need to realise, especially for media that’s not coming off an unresolved prior work, that we can still love the original. If it’s that bad, pretend the sequel doesn’t exist.

@GeeEssEff I’m in the exact same position. I used to quite like this site when it was more niche, with everyone just talking about the games. Now every time I see an article about a game with a minority or cultural aspect in it, I dread looking at the comments, and have even started avoiding them most of the time because I don’t really want to feel depressed first thing in the morning when I check the news. Doesn’t always work because I still bump into that mindset on seemingly innocuous articles. There are some fantastic people on here but it hurts to think there’s still a chunk of the community who would be happy to never play a game with someone like you in it, or who feel the very presence of someone like you is a political statement of some sort (insane way of thinking). You start feeling like you’re not really a person to them, and as such you can’t belong to a community.

@Kienda What I don’t understand is how people thought this game was DEI in the first place. It’s based on an African setting because it was inspired by the creator’s African roots and his dad. Since when is that a bad thing? (This isn’t directed at you by the way, I know you’re just referencing this as part of your point).

We’re getting to the point where we may as well just stop putting minorities in games or referencing other cultures because of the anti-“woke” mob that’s out there. I saw Abubakar Salim on Twitter yesterday responding to a video by a bunch of closeted racists on stream just attacking his character and the game for no valid reason. It’s an insane obsession from a bunch weirdos and it must feel awful for creators. We’re cooked as an industry if we allow this to happen.

Super cool, would much prefer this form of communitarian approach, but it’s also very on us to show support for good games we like or want to play.

@tomassi The film itself is a documentary that follows the guys who were trying to do this in-game, so it’s not just a recorded live stream as far as I’m aware.

@LowDefAl it’s both. An almost throwback 3rd person balls to wall action game, but if you’re a Warhammer fan you’ll love the realisation of the setting.

I was one of those peeved off about what they were doing, particularly around the fire update when it all came to a boil, but I have to admit I didn’t expect them to improve so much so soon. Always brilliant when devs actually listen to feedback and everyone is back to enjoying it again. Yet there were people who were telling us to shut up when we were raising the complaints. We wouldn’t have got here otherwise, you need a dialogue and devs can tell when it’s disingenuous.

Habit forming helps with immersion as well. If it helps in real life, pure bonus.

That’s awesome. Always supportive of art being used in different ways, sounds like it’s worth checking out.

Honestly the quality exchange we’re getting is terrible. We’re losing far better games than we’re getting, I’m not sure how they can justify the price hike.

We really need something similar to next fest on ps5. If Sony could stop plotting their next unnecessary remake or price hike and focus on things fun for consumers, maybe we’d get something.

Summer Eternal have a fantastic manifesto, so it’s them and Red Info I’m going to be following closely. Skeptical about the other studios but I won’t complain about getting new RPGs. If 3/5 manage to knock out great games then Disco will have had an even greater impact on our industry than any could imagine.

Comments are so confusing. At no point did they say they removed spiders due to arachnophobia, just that they weren’t in the game so people so concerned don’t have to worry about it. How are people now bemoaning the state of gaming from this? Do spiders have a divine right to be in a video game? Are spiders absolutely critical to the lore? Most of this game is set in the fey, why would there be spiders there? From the same people who like to moan about people moaning.

@Bigmanfan He’s an auteur, one of the very few we have in gaming. He has a very distinctive style and approach to his storytelling that is unique. Even if you find his games overrated (I don’t), you would never mistake a Kojima game from anything, and that’s why he’s so cherished. With AAA gaming so often being by-the-numbers, we could do with a few more visionaries.

This site’s comment section is becoming a Twitter microcosm and it’s so sincerely disappointing. Some absolutely fantastic people having to deal with an absurd amount of anti-woke warriors. I’m not sure when this turn happened because it wasn’t like this 3 yrs ago.

Moaning about Yasuke and ignoring the fact that there is a second Japanese protagonist and that Yasuke has been portrayed by Japanese artists multiple times with no issues! There are lots of Japanese people defending his inclusion. Mentioning DEI whenever they can. We’ll end up getting to a point where developers will just stop putting in minority characters for fear of the backlash. There were people complaining about the black space marine in Space Marine 2! We’re cooked as community, and the brainrot has set in.

If you’re really going to blame the downfall of Ubisoft of “wokeness” and not their derivative, uninspiring game design, predatory practices and toxic culture, you are brain-broken and need to log off and spend some time in nature or something.

Not everything needs a direct sequel, good lord. If an arc was concluded successfully, just leave it alone. Do something new.

Not surprising since the whole trend with these over the years has been towards simplification first and foremost, although I thought Dorian would have some role in this, and potentially the decisions made in Orlais. Let’s see how it goes, but I have so many doubts about this game, which I think should be warranted - BioWare needs to earn back trust in their quality.
