@TommyNL Super Mario 3d All-Stars(straight ports of Mario 64, Mario Galaxy and Sunshine) sold 9.07m copies in its 7 months of availability. Based on that a lot of people thought that the galaxy repackage would sell more than GoY actually.
It seems like the market for Nintendo repackages has slowed down a little bit though(3D all-stars was peak pandemic, like Got)
I hope they release the PCBox as I quite like that idea, especially if they’re prepared to sell it at cost. That could be a pretty useful device to have.
Documentaries about cults and zealotry always tickle my fancy
Have you seen Wild Wild Country? I remember seeing that when I was younger and was completely blown away with how crazy this all was, happening in North America in the 20th century.Of course we’ve regressed a lot since then and North American cults are now mainstream…
Halo: Combat Evolved is, Imo, one of the greatest video games of all time. Playing it at the time, in local co-op especially, was really something else. I remember completing it on the hardest difficulty just to see that bonus 5 second cutscene(the warthog level at the end is the hardest part on Legendary btw).
I fell off the series fairly quickly but that first experience is still one of my fondest memories of playing video games.
Would I but a remake on PS5? Well, that's a interesting question because a few days ago I'd have said I'd just play it on gamepass. Now I'm thinking that maybe buying it is a better idea than renting it for £22.99. Especially as MS games are discounted aggressively(like Ubisoft level aggression). Maybe if it's on gamepass at the same time as another (short) game that I want to play, then I can get twofer on the rent cost. Otherwise 50% off(6 months after release optimistically) on PS5.
Japan liking the game set in Japan is far too predictable. I, also, tend to favour F over the “Normal” Silent Hill games though. It just appeals to me more.
@KundaliniRising333 If your YouTube algorithm isn't showing you GoY content then that might be more an indicator of what kind of people you normally watch on YouTube, and what sort of person the YouTube algorithm has determined you to be.
Edit: some dude called TheRadBrad has started a playthrough and part one already has 573k veiws in a day.
That classic Japanese horror game design mix of exploration, puzzles, and combat is just so much more satisfying than dull Western walking sims where you run and hide from enemies the entire game.
Wasn’t Alone In the Dark made in the west and come out 4 years before resident evil?
@B_Lindz That’s a completely nonsense stat, as they were technically the publisher for like 200 random games that they published in only one territory under specific licensing arrangements and random shovelware.
So it includes the likes of a bunch of pixeljunk games that Sony distributed outside of Japan. It includes games like Time Crisis 4 which they co-published in PAL territory. Random games like Magic Orbz that they published on PSN in NA for some inexplicable reason.Random games they published in random countries, like all these games published in India only: “Cart Kings”, “ChandraGupta: warrior Prince”, “Desi Addi: games of India” “Hanumum Boy Warrior”
It includes every singstar game and expansion. Literally dozens and including all the regional only ones. Also, about a dozen Buzz! Games.
It includes completely frivolous rubbish like Go! Sports Skydiving, Hustle Kings, Street Cricket Champions(India only).
It also includes the PSN release of old games like Buzz! junior: Jungle Party. Which was a PSN release for an old PS2 game, one of questionable quality too.
How about you actually pick a 2 year period and list all the high quality AAA games they released in that period.
That's a nice piece of artwork that Famitsu got there, probably help their case for that 40/40. Anyone know if the famitsu editor managed to snag a cameo in the game?
The biggest problems are the engine, outdated and unsupported, and their own spaghetti code holding everything together after the game had way more users than they expected.
@MrPeanutbutterz Human beings have been plastered all over all forms of media since the inception of media, ergo no game featuring a human being can ever be creative. Gtfo of here dude.
@MrPeanutbutterz You’re obviously incredibly biased by thinking that the 14th R&C game will be more creative than a game featuring Wolverine, a character they’ve never done before.
You just don’t like Marvel, just say that.
Sunset overdrive generated a profit of $567 for Insomniac. No, I didn’t miss out a digit or an m.
@MrPeanutbutterz Here’s what Insomniac made before the marvel games:
Disruptor(average first person shooter), Spyro game, spyro game, spyro game, Ratchet game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance Game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance game, Ratchet game, Ratchet game, Phone game, Fuse(rubbish game published by EA), Ratchet game, Sunset overdrive.
Then at this point they made 4 games called “Slowdown, Bull” “Fruit Fusion” “Bad Dinos” “Digit &Dash” These are 3 phone games and what I assume is a PC only VR game. Then they made another Ratchet game, 3 VR games and Edge of Nowhere.
Then they made Spider-man. They were hardly a bastion of creativity before. They made a lot of trend chasing phone games and VR games in between churning out endless sequels.
Trying to insult a video game by saying "it just looks like another Returnal" is like trying to insult a football player by saying "he just looks like another Messi"
According to Ampere Analysis, in the month of August, the average PS player played 12.7 hours of video games(Xbox = 7.7, Steam = 11.9). So, a game like this would take the average video game player almost a year to finish? That seems like a massive disconnect.
Has anyone ever stopped to consider that games getting longer is a massive issue for the industry since it’s likely to make people buy fewer games and focus more on the really big ones. Which, lo and behold, appears to be the case over the last few years.
I think I have like 8 screenshots on my PS5, and all 8 of them are from Ghost of Tsushima.
One of them is that horseback moon shot that I’m sure 90% of people have taken. It’s almost certainly the Machu Picchu dating site picture of the video game world.
And it certainly isn't about the colours. It's about stuff like you talk to an NPC that looks female and they force you to call that person they... like there were more than one person there.. To me it is immersion breaking.
Aren't they a they because they are a robot? There's no actual flesh and bones characters in this game and the exact nature of the downloaded personalities is unknown, it's hinted at being one of the core mysteries of the story.
@wildcat_kickz The PvP is already very good, exceptional even. The maps are really small and densely packed and push people together for a lot of conflict and it seems this is their primary aim compared to most extraction games.
I think the biggest issue was people weren't expecting a primary pvp game.
@wildcat_kickz There is a lot of meta progression to work through, through contracts for companies and skill trees using resources looted. They were a little bit underwhelming but I'm sure that's being addressed.
It's also a seasonal wipe game, something like diablo. So each season there will he a new seasonal storyline and you start from zero again. I actually quite like diablo seasons and think this is an amazing approach for an extraction shooter.
I think their priority should be improving pve content. That's the thing that lacks the most imo.
I know a lot of the hate for this game is from incels, generated by the ragebaiter YouTube incel community, but I still can't work it out at all. It's a game about robots shooting other robots.
Is it because the robots are brightly coloroured? Does that make them gay? That's honestly some of the dumbest ***** I've ever come across in my entire life, if that's the case.
The usual litany of comments from people that have never played it, and no doubt have zero interest in Multiplayer games. 95% of the negativity around this game is from people that never played it.
The art style is good, and the core gameplay is very good. Just need to work out the systems around them and build out more maps.
Isn’t this a gimmicky game that you play using a phone and it utilises cloud for presumably gimmicky cloud related things? (There’s probobably cool things you can do with the cloud though, like an AI controlled NPC that you can talk to in real time)
I was able to play in the last Tech Test for this game in late April. I NEVER play online multiplayer games (especially the extraction genre), and don’t play competitive shooters, but this was honestly the most fun I’ve had with a video game in the last 5-10 years. I don’t know how to totally convey how great it is. And It’s completely viable to play as a solo as well. I haven’t been able to fully enjoy a game since I played the tech test. I seriously implore everyone that’s on the fence about this game to give it a try during this next server test. I created an account just to post this. Lol.
Created account just for this eh? This game’s hype seems to be about 90% Astroturfing.
I like the incorporation of visual novel style storytelling through playing the game through again with new endings and more story. I wish more games would incorporate this type of approach.
It feels like instead of permanent price reductions they now use digital style pricing where they maintain high rrp but do frequent sales that you should always wait for.
@Oram77 Sorry, I think this is just an AI generated article pulling data from other sources.so it’s just repeating something someone said, that’s why it contradicts itself.
The definitive stat is that 88% of the top 25 ranked PC players were using a controller.
The situation is quite nuanced though, where if you are an actual pro player you might be good enough to gain an advantage from a mouse through the high skill ceiling but most people just grinding ladders and leaderboards get a much easier advantage from heavy controller aim assist.
For the average player playing against other average players most data suggests that aim assist is much better. Most of the people that complain about PC players having a mouse fall very firmly into the average player category.
@Oram77 it depends on the level of aim assist. I believe that most publically available stats favour controller even though that seems to go against conventional wisdom.
There was lots of stats recently surrounding games like Apex where controllers dominate. Here's an article where they talk about the fact that 88% of the top PC players in Apex Legends leaderboard were actually using a controller.
Isn't the idea that people with a mouse are advantaged in shooters a myth anyway? With controllers getting aim assist in most games they generally dominate the top ranks of most shooters.
@LifeGirl Those games are mechanically similar, but not artistically similar. Light of Motoram is not mechanically similar to Horizon, but artistically similar.
People are generally ok with mechanics being copied, not so much with art, that tends to be a hard line. The actual line that separates stealing art from making your own art inspired by someone’s else art is a tricky place to define though.
makes them far less susceptible to corporate manipulation
Do you know they're owned by Kadokawa and review their own games? People who worked their have revealed that reviews needed to be approved by publishers before being printed. Also, famitsu and the main CEO have a lot of cameos and all those games get perfect scores or close to it.
