We've finally been handed our first proper look at Marvel's Wolverine, and boy is it bloody.
This is the new action game from Insomniac Games, the PlayStation Studio behind the Marvel's Spider-Man series — except this superhero outing is packing way more violence than Peter Parker's teen-rated escapades.
As you can see in the above trailer, the man himself is capable of pulling off some utterly brutal moves, dismembering his enemies with his adamantium claws.
The developer says that it really wanted to capture the rage at the heart of the character, and it certainly seems to have succeeded.

This game looks both brutal and awesome. Looks like it's going to be great
THANK GOD IT'S GORY!
Well played Insomniac
Yeah this just looks totally awesome. Cant wait to slice up some Sentinels 🔥
That trailer really seemed designed to silence the critics saying it was going to be too tame. Easily the standout of this SoP.
Now that's a premium first party trailer
My daughter just watched me play the Insomniac Spider-Man games a few weeks back and was excited to watch me play this.
.......this isn't getting turned on until after she goes to bed.
Sony hitting their stride, finally. This looks excellent
Knew it was Liam voicing him the moment he first spoke, solid choice.
Yeah so no worries about the violence being toned down then as jesus this makes the Origins game look tame haha. Safe to say i'm hyped as hell for it especially as he's my 2nd fav Marvel character (Spidey's no 1).
Liam is a wonderful choice for Logan! Game looks gorgeous, bloody and brutal.
🙌 Violent & Visceral 🙌
I might as well share the rest of my thoughts I noted down:
They are saying all the right things, for me. The actor seemed to know what he was doing, and understands the emotional depth behind the role. And they all pretty much mentioned the damaged nature of a man who has been used and abused, lost everything, lost himself, and that struggles to keep himself on a level.
🤞🤞🤞😬🤞🤞🤞
Man I cannot wait!! I’m sooo glad they didn’t hold back and actually allowed some real violence for a change. I would love for it to release not too long after GTA 6 providing it hits time in May
I'd say that's a day 1 must buy for most people. Looks stunning!
I need it. I need it right meow.
Looks 🔥 can't wait
@Splash_Woman
"What were all those sound effects, Mum?"
"Oh just the sounds of me dismembering another wave of enemies... go back to bed"
My highlight of the show insomniac games has easily been the best first party developer of the generation so far
Looks like Wolver-Spiderine-Man. Leave it to Sony to lock one of its greatest developers into Marvel games for the next 3 decades
managed to find an actor that sounds pretty much like Hugh Jackman, so points for that
that faking huge sentinel looked pretty cool too. hoping for some x-men guest stars
Looks amazing
I miss this big budget cinematic feeling. Looked great! And I am happy that stupid ***** Bryan Intihar is nowhere near to it after the dissapointing Spider-Man 2.
I'm so happy to see that it's super gory.
This is why you let Insomniac cook.
Was concerned that it was going to be too similar to Spider-Man but judging by this trailer that's not the case.
Any Marvel property should be multiplatform - PS, Xbox, Switch, PC. Period.
This game looks amazing. The violence and the gruffness of Wolverine are shown in the trailer. This is easily going to be a GOTY contender, I am super excited for this.
Let them cook for a year more and fine tune it and it will be amazing.
my hype is really low and i didn’t bother watching the trailer for the mere fact that it isn’t out until the end of next year. what an extremely long wait
This looks great, I'll be there day one.
@cburg Nah
@cburg Why?
This looks so sick! Omega Red, baby!
@cburg that's loser talk 😃
Never thought I'd live to see the day but welcome back bub 💛🖤💙

I've been eagerly awaiting Insomniac Wolverine ever since I first played Insomniac Spider-Man for the first time earlier this year and I'm so happy to say that this gameplay reveal far exceeded my expectations. The extravagant linear setpieces, the impressive setting variety and the sheer unrelenting goriness of it all has me absolutely giddy in the best way. Praying I have the healing factor necessary to get me through till Fall 2026 now XD
@Deljo I got my answer from the comments. Let's have a Marvel property, which everyone can watch the movie on TV, Disney, theatres, be moneyhatted by Sony for their own console to the detriment of other gamers. I understand the exclusive strategy and it makes sense in certain instances, but to exclude PC, Switch & Xbox (i know, no one will buy the game) on a property like this is just ridiculous. It's like so many of you don't want other gamers to have enjoyment in a game just to make you feel better inside because you have it. Sad really.
Take my money Insomniac and Sony!
Reminds me of the very much underrated Wolverine Origins game, which is exactly what I wanted it to be. Excellent.
Wouldn’t class any of this as gameplay though, so would be excited to see some actual footage. This just looks like all the Finisher moves sliced together.
This was the highlight for me. I am missing X-Men SO hard these days. Love me some Wolverine, and this looks like the game I was hoping for. Now we just need a solid story and we’re rockin’.
I guess next generation arrives next year! Wolverine did look amazing!
@Icey664 agreed!
This looks really incredible. Insomniac does not disappoint, and their set pieces in this particular trailer remind me of Uncharted (that’s a good thing, too).
I’m actually kind of shocked it’s as gory as it is. Shocked in a good way. Doing Wolverine legit tonely. On another note, where’s the person who was saying in the Push Square community that Wolverine doesn’t work as a leading role? Lol.
@Kraven
Especially the alley part.
Won't lie, this Wolverine trailer just makes Logan look like a murderer lol.
@-Sigma- how are you able to tell from this trailer that Wolverine is premeditative and unlawfully killing the individuals in this trailer. Just because it’s gory doesn’t make it murder.
@cburg Exclusives is how Sony sells consoles though? Marvel IP or not. I would not be surprised in the next decade or so Sony will become more multiplatform like Microsoft, but we are not at that point yet.
Insomanic is a 1st party developer, so that means it will be a PS exclusive 🤷♂️. Then probably comes to PC in a couple of years time.
@cburg
Microsoft was approached and turned down the chance to make a Spider-Man game. Sony, already owning the movie rights to Spiderman saw an opportunity.
I knew it was going to be gory, but boy howdy, I didn't know it was going to be THAT gory. Jeez. 😦
@-Sigma- I mean... yeah? That's about right.
The amount of gore and violences will shut up some people who seriously believes Insomniac gonna make it PG13 despite they already said the game will be mature and fits with Wolverine.
But I'm hype. Wolverine is one of my top 3 favorite Marvel characters and looks like Insomniac nailed it. I hope they include Wolverine classic brown costume from Uncanny X-Men.
@PuppetMaster If Spider-Man is anything to go by i wouldn't worry about costumes. I expect all the classic looks and film looks will be there at a bare minimum. I'm hoping they include the orange and black look from the X-Men Evolutions cartoon.
@cburg So it's not okay for Sony to make exclusives Marvel games while Nintendo can keep Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and MS can keep Blade as exclusives?
@DennisReynolds Yeah they probably add all popular costumes. I don't remember much of X-Men Evolutions though and there's also 'Wolverine and X-Men' cartoon back in 2000.
I can't maintain hype for that long. I am 43 years old. Therefore, I went with "its looking real good." Insomniac is a great studio. I know I'll be getting this anyway. But, man, THAT IS WHY PEOPLE BUY PLAYSTATIONS, SONY! I hope they come around.
I think this looks pretty damn good but after the narrative disappointment of Spider-Man 2 I’m not going to wildly ride the hype train.
But am still pretty damn excited, 2026 shaping to be another incredible year for games, hoping this is a huge success for Insomniac.
@DonJorginho This game has completely different directors and only one writer from Spiderman 2.
Spiderman 2
Wolverine
The tone and gameplay already looks much different than Spiderman games. So i don't think you need to worry with the quality.
i like to know what other villains or super heroes will also be in the wolverine game..
@PuppetMaster Can't see Blade being an exclusive, even when they revealed it they never said only on Xbox/PC and danced around that topic.
@-Sigma- Shocker a person with 6 razor sharp knives that come out out of his fists violently kills people.
looks pretty good... but i'm confused about who he is actually killing in this trailer. it appears that all his victims are cyborgs of some kind... which comes across as a bit forced. i suppose that alows insomniac to get away with more gore and dismemberments... otherwise they would be facing some trouble from the ESRB.
@DennisReynolds Maybe not full exclusive but i can see MS keep it as Xbox exclusive for at least a year.
The only thing this trailer confirmed for me is with a fall 2026 release window, that pretty much says Intergalactic is gonna be a 2027 game. End of ps5 life cycle by then and Naughty Dog is just going. LMAO. Insomniac has been the MVP. Too bad Sony locked them into Marvel for the next 3 decades
Watching the trailer again and its interesting seeing how similar this is to Origins as that also had Mystique in a key role and a Sentinel boss fight (what was freaking awesome).
@PuppetMaster We will see but i wouldn't be shocked if its day 1 everywhere.
Looks great. Cant wait to watch some gameplay before I decide if to buy early or wait.
@Porco Donald Pierce and The Reavers, who I'm assuming these cyborgs are, are classic Wolverine enemies.
Is this mortal kombat?
Finally! Damn, 2026 will be such a packed year.
I liked it when that fella got stabbed in the head.
Sick. Love that cover art, hope they keep it.
@PuppetMaster thanks for the info man, had no clue Walt Williams was working on this, love that guys work (Spec Ops: The Line), my hype has just increased tenfold.
Although they're doing venom , Spider-Man 3 and X-Men next that trailer made me want to see them do hulk.
Bet they'd knock that out of the park
@nomither6
🤣 You always crack me up inadvertently.
@cburg
Buy a PlayStation and play the games!
So disappointed that one of Sony's most creative studios is stuck pumping out done-to-death superhero shlock like this.
@MrPeanutbutterz I guess you’d prefer if they made their 13th Ratchet and Clank game?
@cburg You casually skipped the bit where Marvel shopped Spider-Man to Microsoft, they failed to see the appeal of (checks notes) one of the biggest fictional characters of all-time while saying "wubba-lubba, we're concentrating on our own exclusives".
So Sony stepped in and you got the classic Spider-Man game. Marvel are clearly confident in their ability to deliver, hence there's this Wolverine game. Sony didn't moneyhat any of this.
@SeaDaVie I'd prefer to see original things like Sunset Overdrive, or a new Resistance game.
Not another piece of mind-numbing Marvel media.
Looks like some good games dropping over the next year🕺
Zero interest in this. Not into comics/Marvel so the big reveal falls flat.
This remains the Generation of Third Party titles to me.
@MrPeanutbutterz Here’s what Insomniac made before the marvel games:
Disruptor(average first person shooter), Spyro game, spyro game, spyro game, Ratchet game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance Game, Ratchet Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance Game, Ratchet Game, Resistance game, Ratchet game, Ratchet game, Phone game, Fuse(rubbish game published by EA), Ratchet game, Sunset overdrive.
Then at this point they made 4 games called “Slowdown, Bull” “Fruit Fusion” “Bad Dinos” “Digit &Dash” These are 3 phone games and what I assume is a PC only VR game. Then they made another Ratchet game, 3 VR games and Edge of Nowhere.
Then they made Spider-man. They were hardly a bastion of creativity before. They made a lot of trend chasing phone games and VR games in between churning out endless sequels.
@SeaDaVie I mean, the R&C games are well regarded for their creativity. As was Resistance and Sunset Overdrive - the two games I'd like to see more of.
You listing their failures and games no one actually played doesn't negate their triumphs, and it doesn't negate the fact that even another R&C game is in fact going to be more original than yet another goddamn slice of Marvel media.
@MrPeanutbutterz You’re obviously incredibly biased by thinking that the 14th R&C game will be more creative than a game featuring Wolverine, a character they’ve never done before.
You just don’t like Marvel, just say that.
Sunset overdrive generated a profit of $567 for Insomniac. No, I didn’t miss out a digit or an m.
@SeaDaVie I think you missed the bit where Wolverine has been plastered all over fictional media since 1974. Whatever Insomniac conjures up, it won't be remotely original.
And why should I say "I don't like Marvel"? Is that not painfully obvious?
@MrPeanutbutterz Human beings have been plastered all over all forms of media since the inception of media, ergo no game featuring a human being can ever be creative. Gtfo of here dude.
Will this be open world like spiderman or large explorable levels?
@MrPeanutbutterz
To be fair, no one has done Spider man like Insomniac. They should really get credit for nailing things like the swinging mechanics which has never been done as perfectly satisfying in a game before.
Same goes for Wolverine, even though there’s been many interpretations, none of them seem to have nailed his character yet, and Insomniac is set to show the definitive take on this character as well.
But tbf to you, i can totally understand if you’re tired of Marvel or just don’t like it, thats all good
@cburg if it shouldn't be exclusive because everyone can watch the movies then from now on Nintendo shouldn't keep Mario and Zelda as an exclusive anymore. Everyone can watch the Mario movie and next year the Zelda movie. It's developed and payed for by a Sony studio, that's why this marvel title is exclusive. Xbox has a Blade game in development as exclusive, if it's still in development though. Maybe Wolverine will be released on PC after a while.
This looks amazing and I can't wait!!
Looks excellent so far with rage, violence and brtual combat which is exactly what a good Wolverine game needs. Can't wait for it and showing a Sentinel at the end is a nice tease that got me extra excited to see how that fight plays out.
@MrPeanutbutterz I understand if you don't want to play another Marvel games.
But FYI. Since his 1st appearance back in October 1974, Wolverine only got FIVE solo video games where he's the main focus and only playable character and two of them are tie-in to movies:
I've played two of those games and while they're quite fun but i think they didn't age well or perfectly nailed Wolverine character.
So imho it's not fair to say this game as "not original" or "done to death superhero shlock". I mean, this is the 1st time for Wolverine to have a new solo game with big budget and a top devs like Insomniac who can provide a solid game. As a Wolverine fans, i'm just excited to see what Insomniac can do with the character.
@DonJorginho
Fortunately Bryan Intihar is busy with ***** up Spider-Man 3 story(Which I am so sad about since he is my favourite fictional character ever!!!). So Wolverine is safe from the looks of behind the scenes crew in the presentation.
This game looks good and Insomniac will always create a good story. I have no doubt this game will be great.
However, I do wish more games used the Decima Engine. The way Kojima used it in Death Stranding 2 it looked very realistic. Maybe it’s just me, I just liked a more realistic look. I think it will be great nonetheless.
The game looks... good? I'm more interested in this game now after watching the gore, I really really hope insomniac can make a good story for this game, also please do not use spider-man 2 writer for this game, I hope he or she already been fired.
I think spider-man 1 ps4 story is really good, ps5 ratchet and clank is boring, and spider-man 2 story is really bad, it's a downward trajectory for insomniac games story quality, really hope this one got great story like spider-man 1 ps4.
@kcarnes9051 i see. good to know.
Perspective is a funny thing, isn’t it? Here, you have some who aren’t impressed by this because it looks too much like Spider-Man. Contrasted by those who are in awe of this because it’s very much not like Spider-Man lol. This is why I seem the term “expert” to be the most useless word in existence. It’s all about perspective.
With all these blood and gore, i feel Insomniac could do a Punisher game. All these years, Punisher only has two good games, one is a beat em up by Capcom and the other is a TPS by Violition.
This looks great. I do think that anything Marvel should be available on all platforms though.
Wow, this looks WAY worse than I was anticipating. The ridiculous levels of gore are insanely stupid. This is not what Wolverine has ever been in the comics or the movies. I don't know where they are getting this blood-thirsty maniac characterization for Wolverine. Not interested in a generic blood-fest action game. Maybe we can turn off the gore and we will see some more X-Men show up in future trailers.
I don't get this mentality of "all marvel games should be multiplatform".
Are all Marvel films and tv shows multiplatform? No they are on Disney+ because they are the guys who funded and made them. So Sony funding and making marvel games means they are exclusive to Sony's platform of choice.
