@KundaliniRising333 That’s a nice story and all, but it doesn’t really mesh with reality, as perceived by other people. You see, it got released on PC only last year, and received a Metacritic score of 89 from 35 reviews(this is actually 5 higher than it’s original PS4 score) and it currently has a 93% positive Steam review score. So either all those people are wrong and it doesn’t hold up well at all, or you’re wrong and you just personally don’t get on with the game. That’s ok, some people just don’t like certain kinds of games, not every game will connect with everyone.
The combat is still excellent in 2025. It’s somewhat narrow in regards to mechanical complexity, but its execution is exquisite. The heft of the blows, the range of animations.
It's Ubisoft so people will be outraged, but of course a company like Capcom has basically the exact same approach, and Capcom are one of the "Good Guys"
I’d love to revel in the ridiculousness of these kind of games but in the current climate you can’t ever quite shake the feeling that is all probably just some AI scam game.
How can they have the same number of employees as PlayStation Studios? I understand they do multiple projects at a time, but PlayStation Studios is like 20 games at a time size.
@Deljo “ChatGPT can you draw me a sci-fi setting with a halo ring and a character named ‘Berserker’ that’s based on the Chad meme. Oh, and draw me some pictures of the Infinity gauntlet if thanos had ordered it from Temu”
Firstly, you’re making stuff up because Stellar Blade officially sold 3m at last time they announced anything and that was 1m sales on PC, 2m on PS5.
Secondly, these games are all smaller budget or AA games that didn’t do amazingly, or games that will sell over time(Demons souls took years to sell 2m, no kidding because its a PS5 exclusive that launched when there was literally only about 2-3m PS5’s in the entire world) so what is the point exactly? Just that Forza Horizon sold more than some games that didn’t set the world alight? It also sold less than Elden Ring Ring: Nightreign sold on it’s first day and that’s a fairly weak multiplayer only spinoff.
If you want to compare to Exclusives then it’s way behind the biggest games. It’s distinctly in the middle to lower order of that area. Which ins’t bad for a port at all, but we are talking about Microsoft’s currently biggest self-created franchise. The sales are not exactly shocking.
@Shad361 err Astro Bot is estimated to have sold 3m, Stellar blade is confirmed to sell 3m, Rebirth almost certainly sold at least 2m in like a week( Remake sold 3.5m in 3 days, XVI sold 3m in 3 days), Demon’s souls had broken 2m during the Insomniac leaked documents. Returnal maybe didn’t sell 2m units yet, it’s unknown, but we’re talking about a pretty niche roguelike game that cost like $20m to make.
The fact they put all the flashbacks into strict chronological order is pretty insane, and makes me think this isn't meant to be a legitimate way to play the game but some kind of weird social experiment.
@Porco so it's exactly true then that the studio was always open. The studio was the size it was because of Levines choices. They failed to make games because of Levines choices. The environment during Infinite was difficult because Levine was the problem, he has a atrocious reputation. He is known for being overly critical and capricious and forcing people to redo work over and over again.
My comment was to put into perspective how unproductive his whole routine has been, but of course since I mentioned Naughty Dog I attracted a certain kind of person. Let me guess, if I looked at your comment history there would be a stream of negative comments about Druckmann, Naughty Dog and the Last of Us, right?
Correction, Naughty dog has around 400 employees, which is about 1/5th of the dev team of RDR2 and even less compared to GTAVI and Rockstar made like 2 games in that period also.
Also, you realise that the average 10 man indie team have also made significantly more games than zero in the last 11 years. In fact small teams tend to make games quicker(if less impressive overall).
@RagnarLothbrok Naughty dog is ~400 which is still a sizeable studio obviously. Ken Levine did have a full team until he decided to fire everyone and rename the studio…
It’s kind of amusing that the Studio most people complain about being slow in making a new game, Naughty dog, released the Last of Us the same year that Ken Levine last released a video game. Since then they made Uncharted 4, Uncharted: Lost Legacy, The last of Us part II and also remastered TLOU for PS4, remade it from the ground up in a new engine for PS5 and also remastered TLOU pt.II with new content. I wonder if Judas will release before or after Intergalactic: the Heretic Prophet…
GoW: Ragnarok - 5.1m
The Last of Us PtII - 4.4m
Marvels Spider-man - 3.3m
God of War(2018) - 3.1m
Ghost of Tsushima - 2.4m
Horizon: Zero Dawn - ~2m
Spider-man 2 - 2.5m(one day)
Those are the big first party games we know figures for the first week(3 days with a Friday launch). All those launched on a single platform except Ragnarok.
Mostly sales are increasing over time, as can be seen here. Yotei will probably do 3-4m first week.
Which ones exactly? Most of the big AAA games do 3m+ in the first 3 days(Ragnarok was 5.1m). Even new IP’s like Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Zero Dawn sold more than 2m in their first 3 days.
But, yeah, maybe some niche games like Gravity Rush and the Last Guardian(sadly). Basically, mostly Japanese games.
The market for racing games is very heavily skewed towards Europe, and Europe is dominated by PS. FH was always going to be the biggest title from Xbox’s back catalogue for PS.
I'm disappointed it's "more of the same", I was really hoping for a bait and Switch into a 2d turnbased RPG.
I'm still shocked that no developer has seen the genius yet of making the sequel to their 13m+ selling game a completely different genre and style. It's kinda crazy really.
@ZeroSum Market size is generally defined by revenue and not users though. Less users but more money is probably the pinnacle of business, it’s literally the Apple method.
The original comment claimed that subscriptions were dying, which does not appear to be the actual case, at least from a business perspective.
@LifeGirl Circana, official charts provider for USA, just said it was the highest ever monthly revenue from Subscription services in May 2025(most recent chart)
Cyberpunk 2077 being almost 5 years old is insane.
I know people complain a lot about how long modern game development takes, but imagine if top studios were releasing games of this quality every 2 years, there just wouldn’t be enough time in the world to play even half of the absolute best games.
It’s interesting that he’s moving to Japan to open the studio. Japan has a massive competitive advantage in the gaming space since wages are so low, while still being a modern first world country; a pretty rare combination. I wonder if this will be a sign of things to come. Don’t forget that Astro Bot and Hi-Fi Rush were both directed by westerners so the combination seems to work.
I remember they did this with Beyond: Two Souls and it was just a worse way of playing the game, things are generally made they way they are for a reason.
At the same time I wonder how many people enjoyed the The Two Towers and Return of the King and never even knew the book completely split both stories by character, the same way as TLOUII.
@Max_the_German It varies per game and all options are possible but majority appear to be a strict lump fee for a specific period of time(normally 12 months)
@SBBuds The discussion is about how gamepass discourages sales and can be harmful and your defence is of course no one bought it, it’s on gamepass. So gamepass literally killed the sales of the game, is that what you’re saying? Cool, guess we can all move on then.
That’s not how it works. You can gain in the short term but lose out overall. If a deal seems too good to be true then there’s probably a catch.
Take for example the idea of predatory pricing and think how that might be applicable to the MS strategy in the video games industry(not saying it definitely is).
Then there are complex issues relating to the overall market health and how third parties are effected if more money is being funnelled through Xbox/Playstation ecosystems. Again, this will be more of a long term issues and by the time it is majorly effecting third parties it would be too late for a major course correction. A situation where publishers used to sell products directly to consumers but now sell their product to Xbox/Playstation and they sell it to customers through a subscription is putting a lot more market power to this big companies.
I would have loved to play this, but it was still in pre-production, meaning this was likely a 2030 game. It's kind of baffling how many Xbox studios appear to take years to get nowhere over and over again, it's almost Warner Bros. Levels.
I played the House in Fanta Morgana on Steam way back before it got released on the Switch, when it became a bit of a big deal, and I really didn’t like it much. It’s very much an old school Visual Novel and it’s pretty soppy. I don’t think I even finished it.
Reminds me of playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon in Business Law lectures. When the world was a simpler place(and other people paid for my things).

Re: Ghost of Yotei's State of Play Has Been Watched More Than Sony's Summer Showcase
This stat is a bit misleading as people tend not to watch the full showcase after the fact, they watch the individual videos for each game.

Who are Patriarki? Were they aliens? That game sounds cool.

This sounds like it could be a licensed game. Spider-man ps4 wasn’t a “new IP” but it was a new game.
