Re: PS Now Annual Subs Half-Price in Select European Countries

PlayNation5

Doesn't it tend to go for 25% off for Black Friday as well? It's a bit of a sting that this a 'new customer only' offer; what about those who are on the fence about renewing? This would have tipped them over into doing so in all probability, whereas if they're left paying full price then they may not see the value and leave. Money left on the table.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Showcase 2021 Was Good, But Not Good Enough

I'm increasingly concerned at the anti-Sony bias this website shows in articles, and particularly from Sam. It's always justified with 'keeping Sony in check', which is great, but many on your Facebook comments and article comments can see the scales are tipping the other way - heavily. I've even seen several users comment that a sister site of yours is Microsoft-funded, which arguably shows a reason for the almost constant put-downs.

This site is great for news, but I'm slowly becoming disillusioned with it.

Game Pass is a loss-leader and likely unsustainable at its current pricing. They're trying to get people onboard, then up the price (same as Netflix, Spotify et al.). Microsoft is very much a services company now, with GaaS simply augmenting their current SaaS and IaaS offerings.

Remember that not too long ago, Satya Nadella nearly closed the Xbox division as it was losing money hand over fist. Microsoft have the resources to sustain something like Game Pass to get members signed-up, but it's not sustainable forever. Plus, the non-Microsoft Studios games aren't on forever. GTA V was barely up for a couple of months.

I hasten to add that I was a primarily Xbox gamer last-gen and get Game Pass Ultimate for free with work, so I'm not bitter, just wanting the argument to be on a level playing field.

Re: This Is the PS5 SSD System Architect Mark Cerny Is Using

@Mergatro1d Keeps the SSD's temperature cool, which means it won't have to slow down to achieve the same result. Enables the SSD to run at full-speed for a much longer time, basically, and at all times in a well-cooled system (which the PS5 certainly seems to be).

You can get generic heatsinks but the benefit of a factory-fitted one is that it's custom-made for that SSD and will therefore deliver the best result.

@CielloArc WD are generally very good (they did have a bit of an issue with mechanical HDDs using inferior parts and hiding it, though), although I'd say they're second to Samsung as the latter makes their own SSD firmware controllers too which makes a big difference.

Sabrent are another good brand that review favourably and especially for the cost, although they may be loss-leading to build a name for themselves.

@The_New_Butler "MS have the ability to price these things at whatever level they like. Break even, take a loss whatever they want."

Could but won't.

"They can also license the tech to third parties at any time."

Wrong, I'm afraid. They said it was an exclusive partnership. Hence why the price will never be at break-even or certainly at a loss.

"To be clear as well it is only the form factor that is proprietary. All the tech inside is standard stuff, they have just built the card to be the size of a PS1 memory card and for the heat sink to be built in."

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Proprietary = proprietary. I refer you back to my previous points.

I own a Series X too and was largely an Xbox-only gamer last-gen, but as others have said you're seriously over-exaggerating how 'difficult' this would be to anyone with a brain cell and coming across as a bit of a fanboy with it.

Re: Last Stop (PS5) - English Escapade Is a Cracker, Innit

PlayNation5

Just finished this this weekend on Game Pass - it's a cracker! Very limited player choices, but still a fantastic story and it captures England/London in a way that I've never seen equalled in a game before. It's like a very UK Life Is Strange, with an illusion of freedom as the narrative is so linear.

If there's a sequel, they need to focus more on player choices and differing outcomes.

Re: PES Renamed eFootball, Confirmed to Be Free-to-Play

I bet that Kojima is working on the PES franchise now, under the guise of Blue Box Games. Hasan will be an unlockable referee and Lisa will be in goal, with Norman Reedus ostensibly being the main striker but it'll actually be revealed to be Raiden all along.
