Do you remember last year when Sony made a song and dance about its cheaper, Japan-only PS5 console?
PS5 was really struggling domestically due to a series of price hikes and the depreciation of the yen, so like the Switch 2, it introduced a language locked model for ¥55,000 (~$344).
But with today’s outrageous global price increases, what does that mean for the platform holder’s plan?
Well, incredibly, it will not be making any changes to the price of the language locked model at all.
Instead, it’ll be increasing the price of all other options as follows:

- PS5
- ¥97,980 (~$612)
- PS5 Digital Edition
- ¥89,980 (~$562)
- PS5 Pro
- ¥137,980 (~$862)
So in Japan, it’s basically a no-brainer: the language locked model is effectively half the price of all other console models.
Of course, it does require you to understand Japanese, and you’ll also need a local PSN account to use it. But we’re not sure why anyone in Japan would purchase any other version at this point.
