First there was Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and now there's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. If Sony is to claim top billing in the weekly UK sales chart, it's because of Insomniac Games as of late. The latest PlayStation 5 exclusive takes top spot at the first time of asking, selling three times as many copies as Returnal at launch. The single other new entry within the top 10 is Chivalry 2 in ninth spot. It sold best on PlayStation, with PS5 making up 41 per cent of boxed copies and PS4 claiming 36 per cent.
Other notable PS5 titles include Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, debuting in 12th, and Guilty Gear Strive. The new fighting title could only manage 26th place. Recent PS4 games include Biomutant all the way down in 40th and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, which takes residence in 13th. Always remember these stats only take into account physical sales across the UK, though. We're sure they would read much differently if digital purchases were included.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 12th June 2021
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- FIFA 21
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Assassin's Creed Valhalla
- Minecraft (Switch)
- Resident Evil Village
- Chivalry 2
- Miitopia

Off to a perfect start! I'm getting my physical copy of Rift Apart tomorrow. Looking forward to play it!
Man, no love for Guilty Gear? Didn't expect it to be #1 or anything, but thought it would make an appearance at least.
These sales figures will become more and more irrelevant as more games are launched in Game Pass. Plus whenever the next Zelda Breath Of The Wild is launched it'll be at number one for months probably anyway.
Always happy to see Insomniac sell well. Shame about Guilty Gear Strive though... That's the best PS exclusive I've played in a while.
@Kidfried You’re absolutely right actually. You only have to look at Returnal. It’s never in the weekly physical sales chart, but it’s near the top in PSN sales.
@DrClayman Maybe it’s just me but while I buy most single player games on disc, I always get games like GG digitally - I’ll usually play them alternating with whatever solo game I’m playing and I don’t wanna juggle discs too much - for this reason I wouldn’t expect it too do great in physical charts.
@S1ayeR74 nah $22 billion revenue last year by ps a record in gaming industry in a single calendar year isnt irrelevant compared to $2 billion revenue from gamepass with xbox software sales nearly non existent, hundreds of million spent to maintain pass, even ms too ashamed to mention xbox revenue last year
They are not irrelevant at all. People buy physical games and this is the chart for physical sales.
It isn't the complete picture of sales but it is not irrelevant by any means.
@arra1213 That's a salty fan comment. Microsoft haven't announced any sales stats for years. Apple stopped announcing sales figures too, are they also ashamed?
People who make comments like yours clearly have no clue about business models.
I heard good things about Chivalry 2! Good fun, will be looking at that!
@S1ayeR74 meh u act like gamepass is a big cash cow of xbox lol
22 million subs paying $10 per month in a year is around $2.6 billion
that is if all the subs are paying $10 a month 😂
with gamepass, majority of xbox users dont buy games anymore
with xbox spending hundreds of million dollars on 1st and 3rd party games every year on gamepass 😅
@Kidfried I'm not sure there's any need to call articles on the charts click bait and question journalistic integrity. Nobody is forcing you to click and it clearly states they're physical only. Data is limited on UK (and US) sales charts so I'll take what we can get.
Happy to see Ratchet at the top! Great game! played over the weekend. Looked stunning on my OLED in performance RT.
i did have a fair share of glitches though!
Rivet's fur texture in a cutscene smeared across the screen when going back to gameplay, so everything looked fluffy... Mrs Zurkon sinking into the ground when I approached so I couldn't buy weapons and ammo... Ratchet's arm disappeared (I initially thought it was part of the story!) and there was a white cube trailing behind me with said arm xD
Most fixable with a quick restart checkpoint (the fur texture thing I had to go out of the game completely)
@uptownsoul Obviously that cut is important, but they have a new business model now. They will be making lots of money from it.
@arra1213 You don't actually know how much money Microsoft is spending though so your comment is mute. You also have no idea how it's business model works, and ignored the fact Microsoft announced record breaking earnings for Xbox the last quarter an I believe the quarter before that. So yeah they are making lots of money it seems, unless your going to accuse them of lying to investors, which is illegal.
Microsoft's model is no longer based purely n physical games sales, yet they are still generating billions in income.
And its thoroughly deserved. Beat the game last night and I loved every second of it.
Insomniac truly is a special developer consistently making exceptional games.
Insomniac games become sony top 1st party developer this gen, it's about time 😃
Just started playing ratchet ps5, the game is amazing.
@S1ayeR74 nah i do they just said xbox revenue increased last year due to xbox series sales but profit is down since its sold at a loss, we cant share u the non existent software sales of xbox games but we can share u the revenue of ms software sales since 99.99% of our revenue comes from microsoft itself
Good to see Ratchet & Clank perform well, even if this is only physical.
@Kidfried We report on them because it's one of the few sales data points we get in this industry, and the article always makes clear the context of what the information pertains to (in this case boxed copies in the UK).
Naturally, our business only exists if people click on the articles, so I'm not really sure what your point is there.
@S1ayeR74 "You don't actually know how much money Microsoft is spending though so your comment is mute"
microsoft: we spent $17 million to put a months old game dmc5 on gamespass
gamepass adding 5-10 games monthly
some game/s at launch
big budget first party games like forza and halo
some random commenter still pretending xbox not spending hundreds of millions as if forza and halo only has $10 million budget 😂
@Perryg92
Theres quite a few
@Perryg92 Definitely agree with you on that. I couldn't believe how beautiful the game looked on my 65" OLED either. Did you obtain the RYNO yet? I'm going to go after it in Challenge Mode.
@arra1213 why is Ms spending hundreds of millions and still giving the customer a good deal laughable? Any gamer with half a brain should be all over it. Paying £70 for a 12 hr long kiddies game (based on difficulty and aesthetic) is the only thing i can see worth laughing at.
Well done Ratchet and Clank and Rivet.
Enjoying the game, plays and looks gorgeous on my 65” QLED.
Good use of the duel-sense as well.
See the Microsoft brigade are on here today.
They are cool, they just need some new AAA exclusive games to play, guess they bored 😂
@Loftimus your laughing at the people that owns ratchet and clank? 😂
u think ms spending hundreds of millions for u to sub because of the goodness of their heart? 😂
@get2sammyb Looking forward to next gen when all consoles are digital but all sales numbers are physical. 😂
So, what's the ratio of game sales to install base? Gotta be fairly high for a PS5 game to be #1.
@arra1213 no, but they are offering a a great deal at the minute. Who cares if it is sustainable or not.
Yes i'm laughing at anyone prepared to pay that. The irony of you laughing at someone for picking up a brilliant deal on a tonne of new games while you are paying more and getting fleeced for a single title is awesome! Carry on!
@Loftimus brilliant deal for games that u wont actually play unless your some bum or freeloaders that only play games 24/7 isnt laughable but paying for an amazing game that dont exist on rental service is laughable for u 😂
u cant laught at people that choose to own yakuza zero for $5 on psn than renting it on pass
i mean steam users buy their own games too, nothing to laught about 😂
@arra1213 what kind of weirdo thinks paying more is a good thing that gives them the right to look down on others that don't? What have all those examples got to do with anything? Only ps5 players are paying £70 at the mo and that is the price we are talking about.
@Loftimus nah pretty sure bf 2042 is also $70 on series x 😂
"what kind of weirdo thinks paying more is a good thing that gives them the right to look down on others that don't?"
well your the one laughing at people paying $70 for a kiddie game 😅
@Kidfried The article is litteraly called "UK Sales Charts", the article mentions multiple times that it is "physical only" what more do you want ? they're not trying to say that R&C is take the top spot worldwide, they're just stating the facts, It's the best selling physical game in the UK, that's all. It's not the whole story but it certainly means that the game is probably selling well everywhere else but we don't have precise data on that.
@arra1213 laughing at them is not looking down at someone and calling them names like you have done. Jog on now, your childish thinking is nauseating.
Nice for R&C, Great game. Could not put it down. Now, this I am happy to pay full price (I am selling it to a co-worker after I am done)
PS5 and RE Village dominated May. Looks like the market is ready for AAA next gen gaming
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2021-06-09-ps5-and-resident-evil-village-dominate-may-uk-monthly-charts
@Loftimus childish? like u laughing at people that purchased a kiddie game for $70 just to push your agenda that games not meant to be bought but to rent? 😂
I nearly bought it day 1 just to support SONY but I just still have to much to play really and will probably play this in about 6 months time(I am dying to play it as R&C is my favourite type of game)
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart was a great game, honestly it was just as good if not better than A Crack in Time, and I believe Rift Apart has opened up many new possibilities for the series should they choose to continue the series, now that they've dipped their toes into the dimension hopping aspect, they can truly expand and improve upon it in the potential sequels.
Insomniac has been crushing it as of late.
@arra1213 no agenda mate. You buy what you want but, to start laughing at a deal that is far better than the one we are getting with Sony, plus trying to down play it and make people that use it feel small is childish. I'm not telling everybody to get gamespass, but i can't deny that it is the best deal in gaming right now (or will be in the next month)
Looking back to my ps5 and Sony's digital marketplace looks like a joke in comparison.
As for the owning games argument, if i've finished a game, i've finished it. I'm not paying £70 for a 30 hr experience (nevermind a 12 hr one) and then the next 7 years is just a fancy thumbnail in my library. It's fools math and i can't get behind it.
@Loftimus good thing only few people like u laugh at 400 million combined users of ps, switch, steam for buying their games and supporting devs instead of renting filler games that waste your time 😅
@adrianthealchemist im not the one laughing on the people that bought r&c and call it a kiddie game
you're asking the wrong prople 😅
@arra1213 see you're trying to turn around again. I buy plenty of games and i bet i've supported a lot more developers than you have. I'm not paying £70 for them though. That is what i'm laughing at.
As for renting games, thats been happening since the late 80's/early 90's only gamepass is a better deal then blockbusters ever had. You're just reeling off every fanboy cliche in the book and that is laughable.
Haven't had the time yet to get as far into the game as I want to (will change that today as it's my day off work) but what I have played has been really fun. Great to see it getting a strong reception both in terms of praise and in sales.
@adrianthealchemist ah ok lol there are people roaming around here downplaying gamers buying $70 games just to push their own gamepass agenda,
like hello is rift apart on gamepass?
no then why your laughing at those people buying the game right lol
i mean why rent games for $10 if u can buy games for $5
ps been running tons of sales
steam too
and tons of people like owning their game
specially physical
just look at gvk its on hbo max but still earned what $400 million at theatres 😅
But I thought only scalpers had the PS5
@Kidfried I agree but I wouldn't call the physical charts useless
@Loftimus you're kinda doing the same thing by saying "it's the best value in gaming" value is not objective. Just because you are dealing with math, doesn't make it objective, we are still talking about gaming and personal preference. Someone can see the value in spending $400 on Switch Smash and some controllers and they'll play for an entire year. Who are you to say Gamepass is a better deal than that? To them, the value is worth the price of admission and many Smash players will happily tell you it's better than anything they can play on Xbox.
We really need to stop saying this broad stroke statement of "Gamepass is the best deal" it's clearly not...
@Omnistalgic and as for rest of your comment. A good deal is based on its market. Being prepared to pay top dollar for something because you want and are going to use it, doesn't make it a good deal. A good deal is objective as you are getting the same product for less than the going price. The cheaper you get it, the better the deal. I'm a pony but gamepass is a belter or soon will be. Nothing wrong with a bit of balance in the market mate.
Another quiet week at retail.
@ViolentEntity i'm just happy gamepass has become a viable alternative to my ps5. I'm not really laughing at people that pay £70... I'm MAD at you all for letting the team down.
Happy for Rachet and Clank, but Guilty Gear strive deserves better. This also shows how niche fighting games really are when compared to other genres.
@Loftimus Oh for sure, GamePass is a great value, but I still think it's partly subjective how valuable it is. Resident Evil 8 didn't launch on Gamepass for example. I still am not buying this is the industry standard going forward because budget wise, it doesn't make any sense. Perhaps, gaming will become like movies where you make a lot of money upfront and then they come to services, (and I expect a $20 sub price at best) but I seriously doubt GTA6 will debut on anything other than standard retail pricing. It's been older 3rd party, Indies, and situations where MS paid enough upfront money to where it made sense for the devs. (Yakuza series don't sell well on Xbox for example)
@Omnistalgic That's sentimental value that are you are talking about. What its worth to each individual. Market value (value within the market) is getting more for your money. A years worth of experiences (20 at least) in one hand or a single ps studios experience in the other. How sentimental do you have to be, to be able to see more value in the 1 ps game?
I love ps studios games and i'll probably enjoy them even more when i'm getting the same/better experience at a fraction of the price. VALUE!
So, every third party game has to come to gamepass day 1 for it to be valuable? Yet you'll defend paying £70 for a 12hr long adventure with no challenge/replay value and you still have to pay for resi 8?
That doesn't make sense to me mate.
@Loftimus you obviously think gamepass is great value and since you continually go on about the £70 price point I don't think your going to enjoy PlayStation much this generation. The £70 price point is here to stay, 3rd party games like battlefield 2042 are £70 on both platforms. Looks like most big titles will be this generation and I really don't see Sony changing either.
As everyone has said, the value of gamepass is subjective to each individual player. I have about 40 games from GP installed on my series x but I've only finished one (desperados 3). Maybe it's my mindset but I find it hard to get invested in the games, they just feel more disposable. Whereas I paid £62 for returnal and after the first hour I was thinking it wasn't for me. But I preservered because I had invested into it and I'm glad I did. 30 hours later and I'm still loving it I think it was worth every penny.
Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to forza h5 and will play it day one, and there are some other great games coming but I think there is value in Sony releasing amazing games that you can't play anywhere else even at £70. MS have still got to show they can make games of the same quality to really trouble Sony. I believe there is room for both models.
And concerning R&C, it has 5 difficulty settings, the top one is apparently brutal at times so there is challenge there. Oh and its bloody beautiful and plays great.
@Serialsid i'll enjoy this generation more than any other as i'll still be playing all of the best games, but now that i've got more options it won't cost me nearly as much as last gen as i'll be waiting for deep sales. Win win for me mate.
@Loftimus fair one, I'll be playing all the best games to, I just don't have your patience and I don't think £70 for a high quality game is that much these days. Will be interesting to see the effect gamepass and Microsofts very deep pockets has on the gaming landscape long term. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think it's going to be for the better.
@Loftimus I think you aren't interpreting what I'm saying. But it's kinda moot, basically, there's still a ton of value in each ecosystem. The entire 3rd party development community is not putting their games on Gamepass. Subscription services are not everyone's cup of tea, etc...I keep saying there's value in GamePass, but saying "it's the best value" is subjective. Agree to disagree on that.
What you just said about Ratchet is subjective. Some players will get much more than 12 hours of game time, some will pass it along for others to play, some will get it on sale, some will just pay for it and like having ownership etc...All of that is subjective. You can't equate market value to objective value in-recreation purchases.
@Serialsid thats why i'm making the most of it now. I don't care if it's sustainable or not, i just want a good deal and Ms Are currently offering one, so i'm going to take them up on it.
I'm the opposite. After the value i felt from tlou2 and GoT, i know i wont get that same feeling paying 70, so i wont do it. Especially when the Americans are paying 55 For exactly the same product (tax be damned).
It's time to give MS some cash and see what they've got while i wait for Sony's Digital edition sku lawsuit to bare fruit. If it doesn't i can still play forza and halo infinite until Sony's prices drop.
@Omnistalgic of course! As a born again neutral gamer who is still pissed off at Sony, gamepass is THE answer to my problems. I have no interest in building a library on xbox and now i don't have to. I can smash all of the first party games when i like, while keeping my eye on the psn situation.
@arra1213 What have you shown there? You typed a comment and are presenting it as fact when you know absolutely nothing. Literally nothing,
You’ve typed, with no proof, a price you ‘claim’ Microsoft spent, and then made some random comment claiming they must be spending millions. When you’ve been to business school come back and comment.
@arra1213 Share U? What? Is your keyboard broken? And your wrong, Microsoft is making record earnings fact. But keep up with the mis-information.
@S1ayeR74 of course they do they just shared their annual earnings last year, its all over the internet
ms is just ashamed to mention the xbox annual revenue 😂
but if your eager to know xbox revenue in the quarter where the series x/s was released its $3.6 billion
so just imagine how much they made before the series was released 😂
@S1ayeR74
How is a box charts irrelevant when reporting about retail physical sales?
It's like saying PSN sales reports are irrelevant because there are also retail sales 🙆♂️
Accurate reports are accurate reports. Nothing wrong with it. Information is what matters. Not everything has to be ground and cut out of context for mindless mass consumption of blurred info..
Edit
I guess the headline should say retail discs that for clarity..
@JJ2 It's like the top ten singles charts, they stopped looking at physical sales as it was pointless and added digital sales, now they look at you tube hits to claim one track is more favourable then another.
These physical game sales charts will be the same, unless they start to include digital sales too and then look at downloaded games like on Game Pass. Or they will become obsolete and present a false picture.
@S1ayeR74
Sure but we aren't there yet.
Retail discs matters
Need both retail AND digital details.
@Serialsid I'll have to agree with this sentiment. While GamePass is great "bang for your bucks", I'm not sure yet of the impact it will have long term. I'm not a fan of thinking of games as "disposable" and I've had the same problem on a smaller scale with free PS+ games that just didn't grab me fast enough and I ended up dropping them. "I haven't paid anything so it doesn't matter".
The other big worry I have is what kind of budget makes sense for GamePass ? Would we get games like The Last of Us pt.II, God of War ? Red Dead Redemption ? Games that cost a ton of money just to be added as part of a 15$ subscription service. How do you reconcile the fact that these games sell up to 3-4 millions in one week end at fullprice but now it would have to share the 15 dollars price tons of other games.
And my last question is how do you make games for GamePass ? frontload the game to maximize players retention, just like you said, when somebody pays a fee upfront they're definitely more likely to stick around, when it's part of a subscription, not so much.
I'm glad GamePass exist but I'm not sure if it really is the "savior" of gaming as some seem to think, I dunno...
@arra1213 Actually that figure is for their third quarter that ended March 2021, it has nothing to do with 'last year', you obviously don't understand what your talking about and did a 10 second Google, and your trying to twist the information do discredit Xbox, you just look foolish instead I'm afraid.
@JJ2 I never said they were, if you actually read my first comment on here it stated:
"These sales figures will become more and more irrelevant as more games are launched in Game Pass."
Never once stated they were irrelevant now. Don't know why you think otherwise.
@S1ayeR74
Well they aren't becoming irrelevant yet. It's not related to gamepass either.
I'm not sure why you want to talk about the future haha
Anyway have a nice day
@S1ayeR74 nah earnings ending december 2020, revenue growth due to new hardware sales as the article stated, still in denial? 😂
of course sales figures are irrelevant to xbox since xbox is barely selling games software 😂
gamepass revenue with 22 million sub = $2.6 billion in a year
xbox spending hundreds of millions on funding games to put on pass, paying publisher for their games to be included in pass
in return
xbox software sales are nearly non existent
if its still hard for u to digest, good example is
mlb the show 2021
xbox pays the publisher millions of dollars for mlb to be day 1 on pass
ps sold tons of mlb 2021 on ps platform
the show is the 3rd best selling game of 2021 without the xbox sales (which we all know doesnt exist since xbots dont buy games that is included on gamepass)
@arra1213 What article? All you did was type a load of crap you clearly don't understand and twisted it and you just look like a fool. But carry on digging your own hole. Your not quoting earnings from last year as you claim. The rest of your drivel is just an immature fanboy attack. Just makes you look even more like a confused hypocrite.
@S1ayeR74 dont twist facts to fiction, tje article title is xbox revenue 2020 😂
just admit nobody buys xbox games 😂
re8 over 50% sales from ps
nearly 30% from pc
around 10% xbots 😂
xbox is just relying on the $2.6 billion annual revenue of gamepass that cost hundreds of millions to maintain 😂
xbox cant even rely on the 3rd placer series x since its sold at a loss 😂
besides gamepass revenue isnt $2.6 billion since half of the subsribers are $1 free trial 😂
@Loftimus Yeah, I will definitely get an Xbox this gen as well if some of Bethesda's stuff is really amazing. I don't like how they had to buy a giant publisher just to stay relevant, but I'll put my Pony aside for a little bit to play some fun games for cheap lol...
@Omnistalgic thats it bud. Get it where you can and only be loyal to yourself in this game.
I love Ratchet & Clank, and Sony has so few games that aren't "cinematic third person action adventure", even though even R&C is sort of, kind of that, too, that I'm thrilled to see it rewarded. But, isn't this metric kind of meaningless? It's the only new release unless we expected Game Builder Garage to somehow top the charts?
@arra1213 You really have absolutely no idea what your talking about. It's hilarious reading your posts. Go and Google some more and post your made up crap with no links.
That revenue you posted is not even the bigger revenue you just stated they made in a quarter in your last post, yet now your claiming it's their entire revenue for a year? 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂 you truly are a confused hypocrite.
@S1ayeR74 lmao theres no annual revenue since ms is ashamed to mention xbox awful revenue 😂
do the math $3 billion for a quarter revenue 😂
series x hardware sales not profitable 😂
increased gamepass subscribers = decreased software sales 😂
xbox spending hundreds of million on pass yearly 😂
fanboy in denial to the highest level 😂
@RubyCarbuncle yep! I got the RYNO in my first playthrough. 100% completed my first run of the game with the gold bolts, spybots, armour and weapons (to lvl 5).
Just challenge mode now!
@Hakin Complete total utter garbage, spoken like a true blind fanboy. the fact you proclaimed Sony's exclusives outselling Nintendo's is utterly hilarious, come back when Sony manage to keep one of its games in the top ten for months on end like Nintendo does.
And then you go in with the insults, which just demeanours any respect your pathetic argument possessed, quite clear your are blindly signing your allegiance to a particular plastic box, have fun with that.
@Hakin Seriously, seek help. You are arguing over a plastic box calling others trash because your one totally and utterly deluded blind fanboy. Sony thanks you for the free advertising. Have fun continuing to do so with no pay cheque from them.
Reading your second paragraph your also hilariously utterly hypocritical of yourself too. With your language you must be 12, shouldn't you be in school?
@Hakin 😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣 your one triggered fanboy! Seriously, seek professional help, you have a serious problem with attaching yourself emotionally to plastic inanimate objects. Your hypocritical delusion seems to know no bounds. Be careful not to get your d**k stuck in your PS5's disk drive 🤣🤣😂
Removed - flaming/arguing; user is banned
@arra1213 So you don't understand what your talking about and seem very young. Keep dreaming.. Xbox is making nice profits. And MS has deep pockets.
