To me, XIV is the ultimate Final Fantasy but I 100% understand that it's also not super accessible. I think XVI might be my favorite in the series otherwise, but I'd reserve judgement for a few years when the recency bias wears off. I really appreciate how people can have such different experiences with these games though. That hit me hard when I played and didn't like X at all.
I really like the idea of a super easy to use/seamless remote play device for around the house. I have and use my Steam Deck for it all the time, but the setup is a pain in the ass and kinda 'shady'. It also has lost config a few times resulting in a bunch of extra work. Battery life isn't great either.
I'd buy this for under 200 usd as long as it works (and works well) over local network, not just only internet.
@Victor_Meldrew I really don't like the level scaling either. Until about level 50, your level is really just a cosmetic.
To be fair though, the scaling kinda 'stops' when you switch to world tier 3 (around level 50). Some things will still scale, but nightmare dungeons do not. They also made the open world scale 'less' recently too.
My conspiracy theory is that FFXVI was developed with a PS5 Pro in mind. Hence the option to unlock the framerate despite it not really being much 'better' than 30fps
Yeah, I'm not one to complain, but whatever they did in the patch last name made the game far more tedious and 'difficult'. Not difficult in a fun way, but it just seems like everything CCs and kills me now. I tried a couple builds, but my sorc can no longer do the content I was doing pre-patch. Hopefully they were unintended changes that get rolled back, but the community makes it seem like these major nerfs were intentional.
I'm not really sure what is going on, but I can hardly play this game without it freezing and crashing every 30 minutes or so. For that reason, I'd have to report my experience as a 5.
Other factors are that I'm around level 45, but still not really loving the gameplay loop. Gear and level feel cosmetic only and don't seem to have much impact on the actual gameplay. From level 1 to 45, the game's challenge has been consistent despite content.
@AdamantiumPriest It has a fast forward/auto attack mode, but it's maybe closer to 2x? You toggle it on/off with square, and your party just keeps repeating the actions you last configured.
I wish I liked it as much, but dang does it feel so stiff/clunky to me. Animations feel really stiff and the linear nature of the 'platforming' is a drag most of the time. Maybe I've just watched too many real cats.
I also had a bug where the cat wouldn't stop purring (even while getting attacked)... not sure if that's a complaint though.
I haven't had much time to follow or play this since release. Does anyone know if the following has been 'fixed'? 1. Option to disable automatic replays after each race 2. Are the rewards still pretty much stacked for the terrible reward?
@TheArt I would hope for view improvements all around. Even in first person mode, why is the camera always so low? You could adjust it in Sport, but even at it's highest setting, it didn't feel 'natural'. Same was true in VR. the scale felt a little off
Yeah alright, but can we have a better inventory system in the next one or no? That dated/clunky/time waster of an inventory system is what really needs a facelift in my opinion.
I tried the demo with my wife. I'm not sure if we hated it or loved it. Probably loved to hate it. Trying to play this game in coop is a true test of any friendship. That said, something about it was intriguing. I'd probably pick it up at a deep....deep discount some day.
"The controllers will be tracked by the headset itself rather than a camera placed next to your TV. "
The lack of external sensors is a little concerning, but that might just be from my lack of experience with this type of tracking. I was hoping for true tracking via room sensors similar to Vive. My hopes and expectations are through the roof with the next PSVR though!
Also, there's now way it could be any worse than the camera tracking we have now.. so improvement is improvement.
@Hurblyburbly Yeah, I'm honestly waiting for PS5 VR for any additional VR. The more I play it, the more frustrated I get with issues on current gen PSVR. A lot of it could have been 'improved' on ps5, but it wasn't.
I'm all for a game being made/optimized to it's best ability and if that means being exclusive to a platform, sometimes that makes sense. Far too many times the reasoning is 'money' and that isn't cool. Hopefully the frequency and concept of platform exclusives is dead before me.
One of my PS4 controllers had left drift in the right stick. It was my fancy MHW edition controller too Other than than, I've never had drift on any other non-joycon controller (which at least HALF the joycons I've used had some form of drift)
@mariomaster96 Yeah, It would be nice if it used the new controller features and stuff, but even if they did that + raytracing, that's still a tough sell considering the state of the PS4 version
Realistically, it's the price of Xbox Live that keeps me from purchasing an Xbox. There are a few exclusive (couple?) games I'd like to play, but there's no way I'm paying two subs.
That said, I'm still not happy with paying for PS+ either. Even at it's current price, I don't feel it's a good value anymore. Still stuck with it because of features like cloud save though.
Personally, I think it's worth the new asking price. I had a lot of fun the 8 or so hours it took to finish the story. If you have a friend, it's a fun coop game too.
They ABSOLUTELY need to fix the stuttering issue though. It's unplayable sometimes on harder difficulty/fights because of how bad it stutters.
@gusglez There are a lot of redeeming qualities to CP2077. Nothing excuses the state of it's release, but there's still a solid game under all that garbage. Sammy almost certainly played on PS5 which wasn't nearly as bad as PS4.
I would love to see a full production/budget Astro game. It's an unpopular opinion for sure so I'm probably 'wrong', but I still feel like this and the VR one were really just overhyped tech demos. Nothing wrong with them, but very shallow/uninteresting outside of the nostalgia/history factor.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah, I thought Sackboys was a much more compelling platformer. I wish the controls were as tight as Astro though.
Either way, I'm pretty sure it won't make their list. There's only 4 slots left and still some huge releases unranked. We still have Ghost Of Tsushima (likely #1 or 2), Last of Us 2 (likely #1 or 2), Demons Souls at #3, and FFVII Remake at 4.
I mean, at this point I'd rather see them 'update' the gunplay. Bugs and graphics aside, even the gameplay is pretty outdated/stiff imo. All the cool PS5 features won't fix any of that.
@theMEGAniggle that's what I mean when I say it would need a price drop. At $300-350, it seems silly to buy a Pro when a PS5 digital is $400. I understand that the difference of $50-100 isn't a small amount for a lot of people, but even if you just look at the library you automatically get when you play on PS5, it's tough to sell a Pro.
If it were $200-250 though, that's a much more compelling price for a Pro.
Somewhat makes sense given the price point. Unless they do some sort of Pro Slim and drastically lower the price a bunch, PS5 digital would be a smarter buy for a lot of consumers.
Not to mention the market is getting flooded with used ones at this point. In my area, you can find them between $150-200 easily.
Despite all the delays, I still think it was a little too early to release personally. Damned if you do, damned if you don't for CDPR though.
Regardless, it's 'early adopter' tax season still. Nothing wrong with waiting until/if it gets fixed if you aren't happy with the performance. Highlights the need for a better refund system in the PSN though.
I would gladly play at 1080/60 with fidelity mode. Was talking about this in another thread, but both existing modes are a big compromise. Fidelity looks amazing, but 30fps is 30fps. Performance mode is smooth, but the city looks extra flat/last gen without all the new fidelity features (ray tracing mostly)
@Mezzer I've switched back an forth throughout the whole story, but always decided fidelity was worth it. The city looked so much for flat in performance mode. I would love to see some 1080p/60 with fidelity options enabled. I think it also helped a ton turning off motion blur. That game looks like absolute soup with that enabled. I should also say, I'm generally on the pickier side since I'm used to 120/144hz/fps gaming from my PC. Some games just don't need 60+ imo
@Rossif3r for sure. Plenty of time to work out any issues too. I guess we might get a Witcher 3 Ps5 patch "soon" too which would give me a reason to finish it and work on the dlc
Hopefully the actual PS5 version is more optimized/compact, but that's a long shot. All signs are pointing at me waiting for the official PS5 release at this point.
I know I'm certainly "wrong" here, but it would really depend on how well quality mode is. I waited for PS5 to play Spiderman in "60fps" only to be so impressed by the graphics mode that I haven't switched back.
Granted a 3rd person button masher isn't the same as a FPS/TPS/THPS. Hard to sell even great 30fps in those.
The PS5 version seems bugged to me. I can't get 60fps using my local wired connections, but I can if I connect via internet. It works fine on my PS4 Pro still. Also Vita remote play will be missed . Some sort of 'remote play controller' could be sweet too. Laptops and phones just aren't as convenient as a true portable.
Yep. Discs are annoying, loud, a tax on our environment, and take more work for everyone. It really sucks only being able to buy digital in one place though. That's going to be the biggest issue imo. Tons of great deals on PS5 disc games at the moment, but nothing is on sale in the PSN.
Only a few hours in, but I really enjoy it so far. I don't know if it's the simplicity that I enjoy and others dislike or what, but I was somewhat surprised to see it getting 'average' to below average review scores by many critics. Maybe I just need more time with it. I've heard endgame is somewhat boring/broken. It could be like Destiny 2 where I had a lot of fun until endgame where it was insufferable.
I haven't played in years and probably own a ton of super rare/valuable mods/items. Did the market ever get.... actually built out or is it still just people spamming over chat? If they added a market board or something, I'd consider rejoining. I have like 5k+ plat all from trading, but chat/dojo trading was tedious and keeping up with the market was too much.
Always loved these games. Serious Sam 4 was a little rough around the edges but still a really fun experience.
