Clocking in at well over 50 hours for the core campaign quests alone, Death Stranding already offers a meaty romp through the Icelandic-esque wilderness its sandbox provides. But there’s been intense speculation for months now that an extended edition is in the pipeline for both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, with the rumour resurfacing following last week’s State of Play livestream.
According to ResetEra user Navtra – who previously leaked Final Fantasy XVI’s console exclusivity – the re-release has been “ready and done for a while now”. It’s reported that this updated version will include all-new story content that wasn’t in the original, although it’s unclear whether it will occur in the same locations as the main game or introduce some new environments.
It’d make sense to port the title to the PS5, of course, as it still ranks as one of the higher-profile Sony projects of recent years – despite it also launching on PC last year. We’d be interested in some fresh story beats, as we enjoyed the main game a lot, awarding it a 10/10 in our review a couple of years ago. Is this a title you’d like to revisit?

I really liked Death Stranding despite it being the most elaborate walking simulator ever. I'd gladly play more new stuff from its weirdo universe.
Eh, if you need to buy the whole game again just to access a few bits of additional story content I won't bother.
Well this is exciting, sure! I never finished the original admittedly. I got really far and then I think I got sidetracked with something else in my backlog, or something new came out. Anyway, I loved it and would equally love a PS5 version or whatever. Anything Kojima does I'd buy. If Kojima farted into a microphone and the game was showing the wave lengths and noise spikes from it, I'd buy it (on sale).
I wonder if it'll be a free upgrade or a whole new release sort of.
Hmmmm, would I want to get the platinum all over again???? You bet I would, sign me up - I bet it would look stellar on the PS5 too.
Lost my completed Death Stranding save file (along with years worth of games), so an extended edition replay on PS5 would be great - whenever I can get my hands on one.
Hopefully I will have one by the time Final Fantasy VII PS5 is released so I can replay that as well.
@Medic_Alert It kinda is very weird from the get go lol.
Death Walking
I absolutely loved the feeling of the loneliness as you walked between settlements. A PS5 version is yet another day one purchase for me.
I'd be excited to play through this again with ps5 enhancements. The additional content worries me. I loved this game but the less opportunity for Princess Beach scenes the better
Can we get a Bloodborne upgrade already?
One of the best and most interesting games I played this generation - I found the gameplay incredibly addicting. I’d certainly play more
I put maybe 15-20 hours in trying to enjoy it and see if it got better, it didn’t. Apart from the great graphics it was a boring, repetitive slog imo. No chance I’ll ever touch this game again. Some of the music was nice though.
Loved death stranding there was something really calming about it. Have been tempted to do a replay and get the plat for it, so this would be great hopefully it's true and releasing soon.
Definitely not a game I have an interest in buying again. The story is tight but the gameplay is some of the most frustrating and tedious I've had to endure
Sign me up, I'd platinum that all over again. Also reminded me how much I loved the music. Going to have to listen to some Low Roar now!
Give me a shorter and more focused version of this game and I might actually finish it!!
I'd be delighted, especially if it picks up from the existing game. (rather than start from scratch.)
V possibly my game of the generation.
One of my favourite games from last gen. I'd love to experience it with 3D audio. Getting goosebumps thinking about it. Day one for me.
I’d be tempted to do a PS5 replay if there is added content. Especially if it’s a new trophy list. Loved that game.
I would love some new content. I’ve got the steel book version, plenty of merch, and I dropped at least 100+ hours in it. It’s on my list of games to go back to so it would be a huge plus to get a PS5 upgrade and new content.
this game was very cool and beautiful! I loved zipping around from place to place without having to touch the ground lol that was very cool!
Though I've only played one game more than once and that's TLOU from PS3 to the remastered version on PS4. I don't see myself replaying this one though or many others in the future.
Still this game was 10/10 no question.
Depends on content, price, and if I have time to play it. I have a very big back log of PS4 games that I haven't touched dew to new titles and PS+ games I am playing. I am extending my game time by going for the platinum on every game I play on my PS5.
One of the few open world games that tries to do something interesting with the genre and where traversal actually could be a challenge instead of the usual straight lining to the yellow dot, one of my favourite experiences on PS4 full stop. I'd love to see an updated version where the BT's and other enemies weren't locked to specific areas, as well as having some new environments to explore.
Honestly the only game in a very very long time that I've wanted some extra content for. Here's hoping it doesn't muck with the footprint of the original game, but adaptive triggers and haptic feedback feel like they were made for something like this
This game is made for the dualsense, can't wait for ps5 version
@render don’t be so seriouuss, don’t be so seriouss 🎶
I only got into this late on and stopped playing pretty early on once rumblings of a PS5 upgrade started. Now im in some grim limbo of deciding whether to just crack on or wait a bit longer 😕
No. Not at all. Loved the game, but it was quite enough.
@Grimwood Nah, that's sounds crap.
50 hours? Pah, 200 for this gamer. Building roads and zip lines and bonding with BB and great music and at its heart a truly beautiful story.
Condense all of that into a game you can finish in a weekend? What's the frigging point?!
Why anyone want to play a game that short is beyond me as well.
@Feena that's it I'm seriously going to have to listen now 😀
This is the best game of all time!
People call this game a walking simulator, but it's just a super-advanced platformer. Like a realistic Mario with ghosts that only come out in the rain...
The concepts and ideas used in this game, regarding life and death, are so profound.
I can't wait for the ps5 version.
if this gets added as a ps plus freebie, I'm gonna blow my lid
I would love to drop back into the brilliant mind of Kojima! I absolutely loved this game and would play an extended version in a heartbeat!
I won't be mad at new content, but I just want a PS5 patch. That game is begging for adaptive triggers.
I wouldn't mind a trimmed down version. Kojima does get a little heavy handed with his themes and could profit from editing.
This the edition that adds the fun?
Maybe it adds everything that was missing from the end of MGSV.
I would love to play it again for new content cause admittedly it can get super boring... so it was a one and done game for me.
@tameshiyaku If he could reduce the amount of exposition dumps in the game it'd be a lot better, especially towards the end...
FedEx: The Game: Overnight Edition.
I could never really get interested in this game. It always seemed too pretentious and Kojima-ish to tolerate. And the horror vibes aren't too much for me. But then I watched gameplay and it's....not very related to the presentation of the cinematics at all.... and that's being kind.... Some folks seem to love it, but I think the only way I'll try it is if it's a + freebie.
I love it, it relaxes me so much. Its already my go to game for a rainy day, and living in the Netherlands it rains here alot 😀
I'm not even sure I'd bother to reinstall it even if it has a free update with additional content.
If the new content is released as DLC, I might get it. No way am I buying the full game again à la Persona 5 Royal.
This is all assuming the rumor's true, which is unlikely to begin with.
Don't own it, never tried it, nearly picked it up on sale around Nov/Dec 2020, but decided to wait for a PS5 edition.
So if there's a super ultimate deluxe edition coming for the PS5, I'll grab that one, some day.
Additional story content? So Kojima got the actors back in? Seems pricey, and I'm guessing he didn't have Sony money this time.
This game was made for dual sense, and I really hope they nail it.
@sajoey imagine if when you scan terrain, the haptics feed that back through your palm. My god.
This game was certainly not for everybody but I loved it and thought having the main antagonist of the game not be typical enemies but the terrain around you was frankly genius and the way the online elements were incorporated was also quite unique. Would like an expansion of some kind.
Only got half way through on my PS4. Would love a PS5 upgraded version but would want my save to carry across and for it to be a free upgrade.
Talking about new missions etc, makes me think there won't be a free upgrade.
Fantastic game and one of my favourites this year, if this is DLC then sure i will get it as i don't mind replaying it if its got added content that said if i have to buy the whole game again then i shell leave it.
I’ve been waiting on this with hand-wringing anticipation as someone who has beat the game twice on both PS4 and PC. I was also wondering if you would report on this rumor since you tend to stay away from those unless they are particularly substantial.
Oh and give this gem the DualSense support it deserves for god sake!
@ChromaticDracula quite simply the best content/comment ever placed on push sqaure
Death Stranding with the dual sense? This would have been a no-brainer game to release at launch.
@b1ackjack it’s a given. He knows it exists.
@Kirbyboy92 because it’s a 10/10 game and we loved it. Pretty simple.
@Kirbyboy92 two easy no’s as a reply. More of an amazing game is always welcome of course, and I’m hardly the only one to score it as a ten.
Is this really a question? “Why would you want more of a game you loved?”
@Kirbyboy92 but see it wasn’t a a “chore” at all for me. I loved the world and the world building. You don’t seem to understand how opinions work or how to respect anyone. I’ve already explained that I feel it’s a 10/10 and I’m not by any means the only one who thinks this.
I don’t deal with such ridiculous negativity in gaming nor disrespect over the internet with random people. Do better.
@Kirbyboy92 you’re blocked.
