Re: In One Weekend, Monster Hunter: World Is Crowned the Series' Fastest Selling Entry Ever

NathanUC

Well done Capcom. You took an incredibly successful series and finally released a title on a platform that has been begging for it for the last 10 years. You also fixed nearly all of the issues from the previously successful releases. What a gamble! /s

Let's be real, could anyone truly doubt that this title was going to be a major success? It boggles my mind that anyone could somehow conceive of this title being a risky move.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter: World (PS4)

NathanUC

@PS_Nation I don't play MH games with strangers either. I only plan to play the MP with my close friends.

The problem with strangers is if you get someone far stronger than you, you'll get carried through content and struggle in the long term. It's better to only play with people in the same skill/gear level. Not an easy task.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter: World (PS4)

NathanUC

ten outta ten! ten outta ten! ten outta ten! ten outta ten!

Souls games don't get tutorials, but that's a pass. A major part of the appeal to MH is learning the game and how to succeed.

Re: Review: The Inpatient (PS4)

NathanUC

I played this last night. Holy jeez do I hate the controls It's like they took the really good controls from Skyrim VR and decided they needed to gum them up. Also, you weren't kidding...everyone is huge! I'm 6'3 but even my arms feel like their are coming out of my hips.

I really really really hope this gets a patch to improve Move controls. It feels unplayable at times trying to do something as simple as aim a flashlight or flip over a sheet of paper. There's really strong hit detection to keep you from clipping into things, but it's WAY too strong.

What a bummer.

@crimsontadpoles pro tip, you can pickup and carry around a plate and hold it in-front of your face.

Re: Talking Point: Could Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass Model Work on PS4?

NathanUC

I think it's the future, but it's not really the future I'd like to see. My worries is that it will create a spiral of lower quality first party games (or just shorter games). If people aren't going to buy your game and instead, pay a $9.99 fee, how is that $9.99 split up between the studios? AAA games aren't cheap to make.

Makes sense for older titles though. PS Now is a great value if it works well for you. I'd rather see PS Now offered as a digital service rather than streaming service for PS4 games though.

EDIT: almost forgot.. it won't matter anyways. Monster Hunter World is 3rd party so everyone has to buy it anyways. This other stuff is a bit pointless after Friday.

Re: Review: The Inpatient (PS4)

NathanUC

I'm impatiently waiting to play the inpatient when I get off work. Normally, I'd be bummed about these low scores, but it only has to last me 3 days.

@AFCC : Worry not. I have you covered.
GONE HUNTING
This a Monster Hunter game.
10/10.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

NathanUC

@naruball Even if 4/10 are profitable, how many break even vs lose money? In the above mentioned games, I would have a very hard time believing any weren't profitable (with POSSIBLY the exception of The Evil Within 2). The 4/10 probably refers to all published games. This includes Indie games and smaller titles.

I'm not saying they are wrong or the opinion of Amy is wrong, but I wonder how much is based on expected numbers in relation to other games.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

NathanUC

I don't really know how much money goes into making these games, but I assume it's a lot. I would also guess they cost a lot more than yearly releases like CoD and 2K. Perhaps this is why they 'don't sell well' to the developers. They put all this time and money into a new experience that will still sell far less copies than a slightly refreshed version of a previous game.

It's probably all relative. Did any of the above games LOSE money? I wouldn't think so. As long as you can make the games you want and pay the bills, isn't that a good thing?

All in all, I wonder if merch can be part of the solution. I tend to look for a lot of merch for the games I love, but rarely find any.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Racing Games

NathanUC

@Neolit Yep. Dirt VR is the real deal as well. Dirt is already 100x more terrifying than GT:S. in VR it's frightening to say the least. The graphics aren't all there, but most of the rally cars are gutted boxes of raw power anyways. I highly recommend it. I will also admit that I've only played Dirt VR for maybe a couple of hours. I still didn't buy it since I lost my physical copy of the game and would hate to buy ANOTHER copy + the patch.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Racing Games

NathanUC

@Neolit GT Sport in VR is amazing, but WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too limited. You'll only be able to do a 1v1 race against a seemingly brain-dead CPU opponent. I treat it as more of a time trial mode (because for whatever reason, you cannot do time trial in VR...). There's also a tour mode where you can walk around a car.. but not get inside it? The walk around controls aren't good and you only get to see it in a pitch black room with poor lighting. All in all, this mode seems like it was wasted dev time.

Dirt VR is a full VR game. It's a complete package of amazing.
GT: Sport is like a VR demo. It's great and all, but a completely wasted/missed opportunity for something that could have been amazing. I still hope PD expands upon it in the future.

All that said, my favorite moment in VR was In GT:S taking the McLaren VGT (Gr.X) around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Absolutely amazing.

EDIT: I should also mention that you don't get any rewards from the VR races either. It counts towards your daily mileage challenge, but sometimes you'll still need to open the non-VR content for it to register that you've completed the mileage requirement.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Local Multiplayer Games

NathanUC

My wife recently started playing Overcooked a lot.... that game is FAR too stressful for me lol. Some of those 3 star requirements are hella strict.

It was hard reading a best coop games list without seeing Borderlands or Diablo 3. I guess if you added those, people would complain that they aren't PS4 games, but PS3 games

Re: New Deals Join the Enormous PS4 January Sale Today

NathanUC

@Shuebacca I miss it too, but the system was pretty silly. Push X for silly exhaust sound! The only thing I don't like about the new system is using Mileage points instead of money. The UI for it is also pretty boring.

The track experience mode is what 100% sells this as the best GT for me. I think I'm only around 50% but DANG is it satisfying to finally get golds and finally learn the tracks rather than relying on on the guide (a crutch I had a hard time ditching).

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Games

NathanUC

A couple strong objections, but still a great list. What a time to be a gamer! Shame Monster Hunter is going to spoil us all rotten I'm ready for that 11/10 score.
My top 10 from best to 'worst': Persona 5, The Last Guaridan, NeiR Automata, FFXIV, EDF 4.1, Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi, Warframe, Bloodborne, Titanfall 2, Diablo 3.

This list also reminds me that I must be the only person who thinks Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, and Journey were just good, not great.....

Re: LawBreakers Publisher Blames PUBG for Poor Sales

NathanUC

@leucocyte I guess it goes back to my original issue then. I didn't even hear about this game until it was already out (and I heard about it via people saying it's dead already). I follow a good few sources online, but I don't remember seeing anything about a beta (or even a trailer).

It still looks like a really really fun game.... maybe it will go F2P or something.

Re: Review: Shooty Fruity (PS4)

NathanUC

This has been one of my favorite VR titles recently. It controls very well, it's exciting, and has a decent challenge (if you're aiming for 3 stars). Personally, I haven't even done the last 4 missions and I'm well over 4 hours... maybe I'm just slow though.

My only real complaint is that the grenades seem overly picky when trying to throw them. I'll release what feels like a perfect throw for the thing to land in front of me and blow up my work space.
EDIT: Maybe there was a patch or something, but i've had absolutely 0 tracking issues with this game too. I'll still get some drift in titles like Farpoint and (occasionally) Skyrim VR, but this game seems spot on.

Re: LawBreakers Publisher Blames PUBG for Poor Sales

NathanUC

I had never heard ANYTHING about this game until it was already out.... the art style is right up my ally, but by the time I heard of it, it was already DOA.

No open BETA? No trial? The sad truth is if you're going to try and market a new IP that's a PvP only game, it needs to provide people the ability to try it for free.

Re: Round Up: Push Square's Favourite PS4 Games of 2017

NathanUC

@KingSandyRavage Yes, I've had (and enjoyed) a McDonalds burger in the last year. I've also played (and enjoyed) CoD in the last year. Were either memorable experiences? No way.

You may not have liked RE7, that is perfectly fair. I didn't enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn all that much, but that doesn't change the opinions of the Push Square staff who created this list.

I think I put in around 200 hours into CoD BO3, but I certainly didn't enjoy 200 hours of CoD. I mostly played it to socialize with friends. I enjoyed that time playing with my friends, but I didn't enjoy a lot of that time playing CoD.

Now that I'm older and always busy with work or other projects, I certainly won't waste my time on a game like CoD. I only have a few precious hours of gaming a week... I'll use them on great experiences like Persona 5 or (imo) RE7. I value my time more than my $

Re: Round Up: Push Square's Favourite PS4 Games of 2017

NathanUC

@KingSandyRavage It's possible you value title length more than title quality in that situation. I would much rather have a very engaging 10-20 hours of game-play than 50-100 of mediocre gameplay. That Resident Evil analogy is perfect. I will forever remember my experience playing RE7 in VR, but I can't remember a single experience from any of the CoD games I play.

In terms of sales, those posts you are referring to are multiplatform and the UK only.

I really like @kyleforrester87 's McDonald's analogy.

Re: Round Up: Push Square's Favourite PS4 Games of 2017

NathanUC

@KingSandyRavage Sales don't really equate to quality. If you enjoy CoD, you'll enjoy whatever the latest CoD is. Activision has been releasing essentially the same game over and over. Many people are just exhausted with it. I would bet if they only released a new CoD every few years, the reaction to the brand would be very VERY different. The people buying CoD over and over are usually just the people who love CoD. Same goes for the 2K/Madden/FIFA series.. I know plenty of gamers who ONLY buy and play the 2k/Madden/FIFA series. This doesn't mean they are the best games though... just the best for that market.

In terms of raw sales (multiplatform, not sure where you got the data for CoD on PS4), Horizon Zero Dawn is the only game listed as both a top 10 game and a top 10 seller of 2017.

Re: PUBG PS4 Planned as Bluehole Targets All Platforms

NathanUC

Target a finished product first please. At this point, I get the impression that the team has done as best they can and the game is what it is.... it won't be long until another more experienced studio comes along and releases a similar/more functional game. (Fortnite already did it, but I'm referring to something more similar to the style of PUBG)
