It's a universal law that when a Dragon Ball game sells, it sells really well. And that's exactly what's happened (or is currently happening) with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
Originally released in 2020 for PS4 — and re-released for PS5 in 2023 — Kakarot has now sold a whopping 10 million copies. It hit 8 million in the summer of last year.
We're pretty sure this makes it one of the highest selling Dragon Ball titles ever, competing with the likes of Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 and Dragon Ball FighterZ — both of which have reportedly sold over 10 million copies themselves.
It's interesting, because these three games are a lot different from each other. FighterZ is obviously a full-on fighting game, while XenoVerse 2 is a mission-based, borderline live service co-op brawler. And then Kakarot's a single player action RPG.
We suppose it just goes to show the seemingly everlasting global strength of Dragon Ball as a brand.
Of course, support for Kakarot is still ongoing. In just a few days, its latest DLC, DAIMA: Adventure Through The Demon Realm Part 2, arrives on PS5 and PS4.
The question, then, is whether we'll eventually get a Kakarot 2. The sales numbers suggest that we should, but the game's DLC covers so much ground that we're wondering what sagas it could actually cover.
We suppose a sequel based around Dragon Ball Super would make sense, but Super is, so far, largely unexplored within Dragon Ball video games.
